NOTE 2 Tips & Tricks thread - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi guys Zoid here,
writing to give you a comprehensive list of cool things I have found with the Galaxy Note 2. I figured it was about time we had one such list compiled considering the amount of people who now possess this wondiferous device ( 3 million devices sold in 37 days! sweet mamajama!!).
I will add a few things about the Galaxy Note 2 that may be common knowledge to the initiated, for those who are picking up a Galaxy device for the first time. I will try my best to keep the list updated with things you guys may find, along with the name of who posted the tip. These will be listed in various sections.
So without further ado:
-----------------------------------------------------------------S-PEN Tips & Tricks-----------------------------------------------------------------

P.S. Does anyone read Atomic Robo?

I want to know how you draw on a picture from your gallery and then save it or send it or just play around with it. If you hit menu and do draw on picture it turns the picture over. Something this simple I can't figure out.

Anyone found a way to turn on the handwriting feature without using the stupid Samsung default keyboard? I much prefer SwiftKey but can't find the way the Spen writing recognition turned on.

In a nutshell, you have to have the Samsung keyboard set. Long press the button next to the space bar and select the Icon that looks like this. (see attached)

Unfortunately unless someone provides a hack, Sammy keyboard is the only way to go for this...

HAHA I didn't think anyone would remember that! I was the first person in the world with a white Evo 3d it was awesome... No I think I'll keep the precious white. First phone I have ever bought in white actually and I love it so far.

Yet to figure it out, but I've seen it done in a video review once before the phone launched...

You can't really right on the calendar you can take a picture of the calendar and write on that. The spen is more of a toy to distinguish the phone for prospective buyers than a feature.

Took me awhile to figure this one out...but here's how I got it to work for me:
Open picture from gallery
Hold down s-pen button
With the s-pen button held down, press the screen
This will take a screenshot that you can then draw on. Works from anywhere on the phone so far.....

I'm wondering if this is part of an update that hasn't made it to the US yet. I remember seeing this possible in youtube videos but can't make it happen.
I'm also trying to get the pen detection to work and automatically switch to the handwriting pad when it's pulled out. It worked until I installed LightFlow and I can't get it to work even after it's been uninstalled.

Did you change the settings back after you uninstalled Lightflow? Menu > Settings > Language and keyboard > Settings icon next to "Samsung Keyboard" > Pen detection

1. Thanks for this. You helped me solve the mystery of the "Quick Glance" feature I had enabled but couldn't figure what was triggering it.
2. How do I get the smiley button to replace the return button on the keyboard? I saw it at least once so I know its an option, but now its back to being the return key.

Yes I pressed that button and passed the thing that looked like a T and a word screen opened but could not write with the pen in the space. .Nothing showed up

Here is what I got to work. .hold the pen button and click on the picture of the pen in the top right hand corner. It should bring up a menu next to it. The first item is a writing utensil which you can choose a thickness and a color. Once you do that go out of there and whatever screen you are on you can write on. .. if you need I can try and get pictures. . Not to used to this machine yet
Maybe here is a screenshot..ok guess not says uograde mt tapatalk.. I dunno..

Draw on a picture:
Open image. Hit menu>advanced edit.
Two choices. Choose Photo Editor (it's a free app made by Samsung...go get it first).
The select "decoration" in lower right. Then "Drawing".
You now have an eraser and a pen. If you touch the pen icon you can choose colors and line thickness.
Also, another tip. On any image...you can long press and the select an area that will automatically allow you, once you have selected your area and choose save, to pin that image area selection to a contact in your address book. Face tag.
To write in the calendar you must be in month view mode. Hold the phone in portrait and click the calendar/pen icon in the upper left. The you can draw on the calendar.

Oops just saw the question is still answered...

no, you can draw on the calendar.
begin handwriting mode by tapping on upper left icon

access pen tools
go crazy
when you get OUT of handwriting mode the images "disappear" but you will see them again when you enter handwriting mode at another time.

[Q] change s-pen default app?

Hello all,
Is it possible to change the default app from "s-notes" to autodesk "sketchbook pro" whenever the s-pen is removed from the phone?
I tried to set the "buddy" feature but that didn't work. ... maybe because sketchbook pro isn't officially s-pen enabled?
Anybody know a way to do this?
Thanks!

You can change the shortcuts on the extra screen that pop up when you take the s pen off the phone just like any other screen.
Ok, so far the best I can do is uncheck Settings > S Pen > Open Popup Note, then turn on Settings > Display > Page buddy, tap the text part of that option to get to the S Pen page option and check it. Then, when I pull my s-pen, it will open a special home screen page that I can at least add shortcuts and widgets to.
However, this only works with the stock TouchWiz home launcher. Still looking for another option.

Can you guys pls tell if its possible to multi-task using S-pen i.e. can S-pen be used open the list of recent apps, the way long pressing home button does?
Thanks

[Q] Clear Multi-view Settings? Full-screen default.

Searched and couldn't find an answer:
Received the OTA update today and had the multi-view working. I chose the full-screen button once and now I can't get split screen windows back. Technically, multi-view is working, but when I select an app, it only takes me to the full screen version. I checked the all application list to see if I could "clear default", but didn't see it anywhere.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Hold the Back button to toggle the multi-window tab. Drag an app into the workspace to dock the app.
Wow, thanks. Didn't realize it was as easy as drag and dropping.

Thanks for that tip. I can't figure out how to add or remove apps to the multiview ribbon.
When the side window is out, at the bottom there is an edit button. Hit that and you can remove some. You won't be able to add anymore from what is in the list unless you are running a deodexed Rom with the unlimited multi window apps mod.

Double tap

On the jelly bean leak there is a motion called double tap and i was wondering how it works. Apparently in supposed to tap the top of my device? But when i do that it never works. Am i doing it wrong?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
You must first enable the function under a menu in the setting called something like "Motion". When you have done that you choose which "motions" should enabled. All the double-tap does is take you to the top of a list. Whooaa!!

Yeah I know it takes me to the top of the page. It's enabled and everything but everytime I double tap the top of my device nothing happens.
According to the "Learn About Motion" in the motion setting page. It only works on contact lists, email list or email.

Double tap to zoom

Hey Everyone
Just a quick question and its probably been answered already or has a simple solution.
I have a Iphone 4's and have had the S3 before the note2, and have a little thing that just annoys me.
On the Iphone 4's and I think the S3 when I double tap the screen to zoom, It automatically fits the text into the screen.
But on the Note2 when I double tap it does zoom in to a readable distance but it doesnt wrap everything to the screen size.
So Although I can read I still have to scroll to the right to read what's off the screen if that makes sense?
I know I can change the zoom settings and I have it on medium because I like the distance when I double tap.
Is there something I am missing?
Thanks

Dragging Smart Select into Upper Text Box

I just got my note today and was excited to try out the smart select feature. Unfortunately, if you try and drop what you've selected into a text box on the top of the screen, the delete option gets in the way and doesn't allow you to finish dragging. Any work around for this?

When you hover the Spen over the screen and click the button, smart select is one of the options. You can crop an area on the screen and it will do text recognition. It then produces a floating bubble that you can drag and drop into a text field; however, once you start dragging the floating bubble, the top of the screen becomes the place to drag and delete the bubble, just like dragging an icon to delete on your home screen. So, having the delete box on the top of the screen renders the feature useless for any text field on the top of the screen.

Ah I see.
I believe you are misunderstanding how to use the smart select feature.
That icon is not text, it is a collection of selections you took. To turn a selection into text there is a little T in the corner of the selection. (It can do fun things if your selection is phone numbers, addresses etc)
If I assume correctly you were trying to use smart select in place of highlighting copy and paste into a search bar.
If this is true then you can just highlight normally hold spen button drag across text you want and a bar with options will appear one of them is a search option that will auto search the selected text.
Some apps don't support spen highlight feature ex. firefox in which case you can highlight traditionally with a tap and hold spen(or finger) on screen and it will display the selection arrows for you to select, an options bar to do the same as above will appear.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't notice that little "T" after doing the smart select. Wish I was still able to drag it in, but the copy and paste thing works too.
