I installed paranoid android and then formatted my sd card through recovery CWM and now my screen won't auto rotate at all despite having all options available to auto rotate on. I tried installing viper x 2.0 and reset the calibration and it worked. Installed cm9 again and it was still working. At this point I didn't know it was wiping the sd card that caused the issue so I did it again to get rid of all the left over files from having sense on there and now it won;t auto rotate again. Tried installing viper x 2.0 again and repeating the earlier steps that worked but that isn't working either now. Tried booting into safe mode and doing it there too but still no go....
This was all in a 2 day time period. I'm pretty sure it's not hardware as it stopped working then worked again but now it's not working...
Any ideas anyone? This is very frustrating
EDIT - I installed androsensor and accelerometer, gyrpscope, magnetic field, and orientation all say waiting for event.... Don't really know what that means but thought I would add it in anyway.

I've done some research and there are a fair few people having this same issue using different ROMS but most of them resetting the calibration worked. I can't reset calibration in cm9 or PA because there are no options to.

I think it's ROM issues as well but I've tried cm9 nightlies, paranoid android and viper x and i still can't get it to auto rotate. It was seriously working like last night then I wiped sd card this morning and no go. Man I'm so pissed at myself. Why did I wipe again. Argh. lol.

Hmm, maybe it's not to do with wiping sd card then. I thought maybe it deleted some necessary files for g sensor but I suppose they are probably installed to root directory...
Has anyone else had this happen? If so did they send it back and get fixed? Did you have it unlocked etc???

Couldn't get that work. Wouldn't let me put all numbers in. I'm on cm9 nightly. But I tired again to boot to safe mode. Does cm9 have safe mode? Press up volume until booted.... I still have access to all 3rd part apps though any way its working again. Wtf?

Really, I don't know what you should do at this point.... Probably we are dealing with an HW problem
And now it has stopped working after a reboot. This is so frustrating... Would it be hardware if it cuts in and out? Maybe the sensor is on its way out or something...Only had it for like 5-6 months. If my one x is unlocked will they still do warranty for faulty hardware? Plus I have a cracked screen. Do you think they will look at it under warranty for the sensor?

Just tried the app and can't do a thing with it. Compass doesn't work. Calibrate just tells me to move it in a figure eight motion. Does nothing.
I wonder if they will repair this If the boot loader is unlocked???

When I have a sense rom installed I can do the re calibrate in settings and after I press the calibrate button the little sensor things wobble around and it completes like normal but still doesn't auto rotate and no sensors except light and proximity return values. Games will rotate to landscape then if I quit home screen will be in landscape but then when I lock it and unlock it the home screen goes back to portrait and still doesn't auto rotate.
I got mine through online optus and our local optus store said they would send it away to Sydney and see if they will repair it even though the boot loader is unlocked. Said the worst they could do was say no we won't repair it. Gotta get everything back to stock first and relock boot loader anyway before I send it...
I'm starting to resent this phone
Especially if it is hardware as it wasn't even anything I've done to it myself.... when its working properly though I love it...

I have a galaxy s3 with rooted stock t-mobile rom. I wasn't paying attention until today and found out that the auto rotate function is making my screen rotate in the wrong direction. Let say if I turn the phone clockwise, the screen will rotate counter clockwise, making it upside down. Does anyone have any idea what might went wrong?
One side note, it was working normally when I first got the phone before rooting but I don't think rooting the phone will create the problem.

Did you read the thread? Some fixed it by flashing a kernel for their device. If that doesn't fix it flash back to odin for your specific device.

inverted landscape rotation
hy guys i have a sgh-t999v rooted phone with android 4.1.1 t999vvldll1 baseband and 3.0.51-kt747-gd1f1083 and lastly jro03l.t999vvldll1 version number now my screen rotation is fking inverted since the last week i would like a solution because re-installing the kernel or the stlock rom did not work and wipping the data dosen't work
After upgrading from 4.0 to 4.1 I found that my phone won't switch on until I press the power button three times although sometimes it does switch on first go. Then, I installed the latest OTA patch to 4.1.1, software number 3.14.401.31 (international version) and found that accessing the camera from the lock screen, with security pattern enabled, is very slow. That is when you drag the camera to the unlock ring and release, the lock ring pauses for about 5 seconds before the camera starts up. This didn't happen before the last update.
So far I have taken the camera out of the unlock bar and rebooted the phone and turned off geo-tagging photos. None of these options helped.
If I turn off the pattern unlock then accessing the camera from the lock screen is normal so this appears to be something to do with accessing the camera with the pattern unlock enabled.
Hi,
I have encountered the same thing - seems like you're the only one who has reported it on these forums so far. I hadn't tried disabling the pattern unlock, thanks for the tip. I'll try this. But I'm quite unhappy about this new bug that just came out of nowhere with the 4.1 update, especially knowing that the camera quick start was one of the features HTC boasted about so much!
Yeah, not much on it at the moment but the upgrade is quite recent. Hopefully more people will find this thread and we can get some traction.
Same problem here, me and my wife. Wery annoing!

No factory resetting my phone didn't work. HTC rang me back and said that I need to return it to who I bought it from. In other words no fix and returning certainly won't prove anything. I think I'll just have to wait it out until it is fixed with another update ... hopefully.
Or maybe we should looking at getting an app that provides the same functionality?

I tried the factory reset too, to no avail. Seems like disabling the phone lock is the only solution, but that's not really what I would call a satisfactory solution, since I'm using a VPN on my phone and that requires a lock + I just don't want to go lock-free.
We need this issue to be known to HTC and hopefully a fix will come.
Ps I don't think this problem was present in the JB update, but only came in the small FW update that followed.

Yeah it only came in the small update after the JB update. But another problem that I'm having is that to turn my phone on via the power button, sometimes I have to press the power button three times. It doesn't always happen, but sometimes after the phone has been off for a while, I hit it once and nothing, hit it again, nothing and then on the third press it comes on. I'm not sure if they are related to the "quick" camera launch problem.
One work around for this bug, if you use your camera a lot, is to leave your camera in standby mode. That is turn your phone off while the camera is active and then when you hit the power button it will go straight to camera. I don't use this myself as I have the lock pattern on to prevent my phone from turning on in my pocket which is common on HTC phones
HTC support are a waste of space
I have this issue too. HTC told me to factory reset it, then when that didn't work they told me to return it to the store to be sent away for repair. They really don't have a clue at HTC support.
The phone was returned to Vodafone yesterday and the repair centre said "no fault found" What are they on!!! The Vodafone store confirmed the issue was still there.
I now have the phone back with no resolution.
Going to call Consumer and get some advice.
I have this problem too, quite annoying.

Does it happen everywhere, even in apps? I would check the settings first and maybe try a cold-boot and then a reset on the device.

I had this problem as well a few days ago. What I did (which seemed to fix it) was I went in recovery and wiped my dalvic cache. 3 days since and only time will tell if this is a permanent solution.:fingers-crossed:
Yesterday I had also a rotation problem:
When I set autorotation to "off“, it always went to landscape mode, regardless in which position it was atm. It was absolutely not possible to lock the screen rotation in portrait mode.
After a reboot all was back to normal - strange though!

How do you fix it when it happens? Do you have to restart? Does the touch fail or does the tablet freeze?
Honestly not very sure what you could do, besides maybe trying a factory reset? That would work if a software problem.
What about cleaning it and removing any screen plastic guard.
U can say it freezes then I have to restart it. This is happening after two factory resets.

Same issue here, I think.
Just purchased a refurbished Nexus 7 (official factory refurbished) from Amazon. My touch screen works great for a day or so, but eventually touch stops working altogether and sometimes requires a hard-reboot (holding the power for 10-seconds). Downloaded a touch screen test app which works great (even with ten fingers on the screen), tracking well on all parts of the screen. It's just like the touch atrophies over time until it stops working.
First thing I did to the tablet after getting it was to unlock the bootloader and load stock/rooted 4.4.4. Is there some way to update the touchscreen firmware that I'm missing?
I don't want to open this thing up and muck with the hardware for fear of damaging it. I'm holding out hope that there is a software fix, because rebooting fixes it right up.

Yes, I'm in the US. I got my M9 from Verizon and since I was within my 14 day return period, I simply took it in to the Verizon store where I bought it, showed them the problem, and they replaced it for free on the spot.

Just curious. , did you expose your previous phone to a magnet? Just br any chance ? Because I did , to a really strong magnet and from then the problem began......

i got the solution, this is crazy but works...
go to help app(the one htc pre-installed on ur phone)
then go to hardware misbehaving?
hardware diagnostics
G-sensor test.
test it once , or twice. let it say failed.
next from that screen tap on calibrate g sensors
do the calibration on a flat surface
go back and do the test. this time it will say it worked.
and acctually, it did work, my autorotate , riptide, dot-breaker, everything based on gyroscope sensor is now working fine !!
