I had my wifes phone on Agat's ROM and it started acting up on her battery dying insanely quick and screen not locking.
So I used the Stock/Rooted One Click FI27 and hoped that would fix the issue. But it didn't.
The power button will not lock the phone. The phone will not goto sleep if you just lay it there and let it lock itself the screen will go off but it will come back on. The power button will work only for a few things if you hold it down for 10 sec it will reboot and to get into recovery/download mode. If I put into DL Mode by holding power/vol down it will reboot immediately. The only way I could get it to stay in download mode is to reboot from custom recovery too it.
I don't have insurance on the phone unfortunately. The phone is in like perfect condition never been water damaged and always had an otter case. Anyone had this issue before or have any advice to fix it?
Thinking about taking it apart and looking at the power button
It happens on ics. You will have to replace the power button.
How does ICS make this happen? Has it happened to you? Any idea where to go for a replacement power button??

ICS does not cause the power button to stop working. Where you heard this information is completely wrong.

I too was wandering how an OS can cause a hardware related issue.
Anyway, how I fixed it was by taking it apart and I got some pliers and squeezed the metal piece around the button (see attached photo)
I didn't squeeze it to hard though this piece is very small (I actually used my camera on the GS3 to zoom in so I could see it) but I squeezed firmly I guess you can say.
I put the phone together and locked and unlocked the phone about 100 times and it worked just like it was supposed too

Hey monotune come back in a few days and let us know if everything is still going well with the power button. I will do the same.
Well, It happened to a couple of people i know who were on fh13. And it was the button that caused the issue. Infact it was also rebooting. and the phone was not able to lock. So fixing the power button solved the issue.

Hey Mike.
I posted a thread here concerning power button repair and I'm linking your thread on the OP as well. Thanks again for the info. TD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1958630
Well, my wife's phone slowly started having random reboots again which was what happened before the power button quit working last time. Then the power button started only working sometimes and the screen was turning on and off again like before.
So, I decided to take it apart again and play with the power button a little bit and to my great luck the power button fell off.
So I'm warning everyone that trys this BE CAREFUL. As if you didn't know that anyway.
Oh well, the wife is using my old Epic now maybe I will send it in too the place in your threads tdunham.
Hopefully those who try this get more than a temporary fix unlike me.

My power button recently stopped working too. Some weird coincidence?
Was the button itself soldered onto the board? Would it be as easy as heating the solder from the bottom of the board to reattach it or is it held in place by interlocking pins?

You can always try cellular depot. (Sorry. Would post link, but I had to make a new account, and noobs can't post links) It could be considered part of the housing.

Actually it could help, if they broke off during normal use, you could probably take it to the carrier store and get it fixed for free.
If it fell and broke you would have to take it to a cell phone repair store.

Guess I'm going to bump this again. Sorry, but does anybody know?
The main problem here I suppose is that the XPlay's volume button, unlike the previous Java-based SE phones (i.e. K810i, which I previously owned), do not have the extra piece of plastic around the volume button that acts as an anti-dropping-off catch for the hole to which it fits in. It's a weird move by SE I suppose. Thinking how the rubber part easily separates from the actual volume button, I can imagine there are a lot of XPlay users who get disappointed going home to see their volume button has fallen off somewhere on the road when they were on their way home. Shame. Good thing mine fell off when me and my wife were browsing pictures of our baby in my bed. Jeez.
Hey guys so I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but my volume buttons are a bit loose and they rattle if I shake the phone. I tried tightening the screws on the back but it didn't do much. Is there any trick to make then fit better or just stop raddling?
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda premium
Stop thinking about them is the best option. Unless they fall off or get compacted I wouldn't worry about them.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
yea... tightening the screws on the back of the phone would probably do little more than run the risk of stripping the threads or something. Generally, there isn't anything holding these types of buttons in place aside from the overall design of the phone being done to have them nicely seated in place. Chances of anything happening just because of wiggling buttons are slim, IMHO.
Buy an iPhone.
Haha sorry I had too

I had the same problem, you can actually pop out the volume button pretty easily by using your nail and pulling. All that's holding it in is a rubber piece under the volume button. Once I had it out I tried to realign the rubber piece on the volume rocker and popped it back into the phone. Now it no longer rattles.

Lol short ones. Try using a credit card. You can't break it because its just rubber holding it in.

Take it apart....set the power button back in its spot. The power button has a gel like button Behind it and sometimes the physical button can go past that. Anyways that's what I did. Just be careful when unscrewing the screws don't strip them or they will see it was tampered with if u do decide turn it in for warranty. And almost always its a refurb....that's why I said eff that

I believe that's the Airview feature of the S-Pen which you can disable from the S-Pen option settings.
It's a known problem.
Some people have taken the pen apart. Rather, i just slammed the pen on a hard surface a few times.

Best troubleshooting for your S Pen
Thanks this method worked for me too!!! Gave it two gentle slams on the table and was good to go. LMAO!! I called samsung to report the issue and they had no way of helping me out, I will call them back and have them implement this technique into their troubleshooting steps.
S Pen Issue
Having a problem, wondering if its just me.. When i go to use S Note, the pen is automatically set to the eraser, and if i select the brush mode, its still using the eraser. I can only write if i press and hold the button on the s pen, then bring it close to the screen.. and then its like an etch a sketch where my lines would all be connected.. As soon as I take the s pen away from the screen and go to write again, its back on the eraser! any help would be greatly appreciated..- Matt
That's not how it's supposed to work. Maybe you have a defective device? Either way I would bring it back to T-Mobile to get it checked out. Are you running a custom rom?

Yeah, it was working before but now its just all screwy, im waiting for my buddy who also has the Note 2 for tmo to come by im going to try his pen. This way I can figure out if its the pen or the phone. Thank you for letting me know that this isnt how its supposed to work!

It may not be the Digitizer. This phone has had a lot of abuse hurled at it by various members of Toddler class. It has time and again proved to be solid.
Just to rule on hardware or software issue, can you comment on if there are any other issues except display ? Also did the 2 year old threw on hard concrete or carpet ?

Well just about 25% of the status bar is black as well as part of the screen. I'm sure rebooting the device or doing a factory reset isn't going to fix it.
But hey let's see. Supamike88 boot into recovery and see if the issue with the display is present there. To get into recovery press and hold volume up, home button and the power button and release them when the phone vibrates and you see blue text in the upper left corner of the screen (which in this case you might not see because of the screen). Is the issue still present?
You could do a factory reset to see if it fixes the screen, just back up everything before doing so.

If the screen is black but the phone still works, then its most likely the digitizer like I pointed out earlier.
You can buy a new digitizer and replace it, but its not really recommended. You might as well get another S3.
You could also just sell it for parts and try to get another S3. (I wouldn't recommend this unless you can do a factory reset).

Good for you. Please note, when you get the new device back, carefully read the label behind the battery. You may get SGH-T999L instead of existing SGH-T999. The L stands for LTE. If that happens, you will be in luck. But need to understand its not the same device but rather newer version.
