[Q] Allshare dongle - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey, I am asking this for a friend. He has the allshare cast dongle and everything seems it works fine, the only issue is when he uses slingbox, if he switches to HQ video, it kicks him off the tv and the video remains on his phone screen. It may just be a slingbox issue but I'm curious if anyone knows this or has any ideas. Thanks!

[Q] Best way to watch tv

I am trying to figure out the best way to watch TV on my phone. I tried going to Justin tv on the web browser but it is having problems. I was wondering how you guys watch sports (or whatever you watch on your phone)

I have a dish network receiver with sling built in, so I just use the dish app to watch mine. Works for live or recorded tv and its no extra cost.

if it's ok that it's not live, try out hulu:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841472&highlight=hulu
i've got it running on mine and although it's a bit finicky i still use it daily
Hey guys, thanks yeah I am looking for live tv. I was hoping justin, ustream or adhte would work.

how to stream videos from s3 to tv?

So when I had an s2 I would just use all share to steam videos to my Xbox or wifi connected Samsung TV. It worked wonderfully.
Now that I have an s3 I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do the same thing. The all share play app seems worthless in this situation. On my s2 I was able to just flash the all share app through recovery on most rooms and it would be fine. Wondering if there's a way to get this working
Go to settings/more settings/nearby devices and turn on file sharing. Took me a while to figure that out too.

Does the AllShare Cast Hub really work as well as a direct HDMI connection (MHL dongle)? I think the capability looks awesome, but I'd be worried about it being glitchy or laggy. My main interest would be to watch movies.
What resolutions does it support? Surround Sound?

I bought It from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0089VO7MY/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
A lot of them are sellers from the U.S though, there are a couple from the U.K also. Just google it til you find one india.
I bought mine from a third party vendor on Amazon last Friday, came tonight
Works pretty well, although I'd say up to 200 ms lag from action to HDTV display update. Videos play fine for the most part, but I did notice some artifacts for some HD videos. (EDIT: disabling mobile optimization in the allshare app reduces artifacts to the point where it's hard to find them now)
I did notice that I cannot use Multiscreen while connected. The option is just grayed out. I am guessing that system performance drops enough that multiscreen won't work well enough while connected.
I should also add that you will get artifacts if you run a more intensive program. If you are looking for a lag-free and crystal clear all-the-time experience then a physical HDMI connection is more what you want.

As I found out when I went out and bought a Samsung bluray to do this, allshare cast is different then allshare play. I didn't make the distinction when I wanted to do this. As such I didn't find any allshare cast capable blurray players. They were all share play which as far as I could tell doesn't allow mirroring.

ok. Thanks.
I did some analysis as well...
so,
AllShare Play = DLNA over wifi
AllShare Cast = Miracast/WiDi
Most TV's and blueray players will not support AllShare Cast, as WiDi is not there.
If Samsung Allshare Cast is compatible with WiDi/Miracast, then it may be cheaper to buy something like Netgear Push2TV instead.
Can someone who has both WiDi Laptop and Samsung allshare Cast, confirm that they can mirror laptop display on TV using AllShare Cast as well?
Right but you bought an Allshare Cast hub/dongle whatever. From my research the Allshare Cast isn't offered on bluray players. Just Allshare Play which is different. It doesn't allow mirroring. Just using Allshare as a general catchall is misleading.

Confirmed that our galaxy note 10.1 tablet supports Miracast.
Source: http://techcrunch.com/2012/09/19/wi...certification-just-dont-expect-apple-to-play/
Quote:
“As a leader in N-screen technology, Samsung has introduced AllShare Cast (based on Miracast), which is incorporated into most of Samsung’s high-end smart mobile devices including the GALAXY S III, GALAXY Note 10.1, and GALAXY Note II, ” said Hankil Yoon, Senior Vice President of Product Strategy Team, Samsung’s Mobile Communication Business. “We will continue to support the program, and plan to offer more Miracast-certified devices to our customers going forward.”
So folks having netgear Push2TV.. can you confirm that you can mirror display of your tablet using that as well?

Id also like to know this, or if anyone has screencast working on any other more cheaper third party dongles

Allshare not working on note 2, ok on note 1

What have they done to allshare?, on the note 1 I can play videos on my xbmc machine from my phone fine. On the note 2 it does not even connect. Do we now need a dongle or somthing?

All share cast requires your tv to have screen mirroring or the all share dongle.
All share play shares with other devices.
Change player is your typical dlna where you can play on your tv.

Ok I managed to get videos olaying by using change player. My fault, if u get s dongle can I simply display my phones screen on my tv as in a mirror, internet browsing ect?

Yes, that's correct. I have the all share dongle and I love it! It mirrors the device's screen!

Seems good, only i can play videos and pictures on my xbmc machine already, alot of money just to see your device display. Must be a workaround for that for sure.

Well there is, you can get an hdmi cable and hook the phone up. The all share dongle is a wireless solution. Or get a TV which has the screen mirroring feature?

Sorry to bump but where is "change player"?
Also does it work with Music Hub? If so I might start paying for it.
Thanks.
edit: Ah dw, it seems it is in the Samsung Music Player, shame it doesn't seem to be in Music Hub.

[REVIEW] Netgear Push2TV PTV3000 with my Note 10.1 and AllShare Cast

I made a quick video showing me using AllShare Cast and the Netgear Push2TV PTV3000 with my Note 10.1 tablet.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnqhZdjm16s
Works quite well so if you want to mirror or wireless stream video, this is a great solution and only $60 on Amazon. Wider compatibility than the Samsung AllShare Dongle, but keep in mind you cannot use AllShare Cast at all if your device has a flash counter higher than 1. If you can get it back to 0 and it says "Device Status: Official" then it will work great. More info about this in the video.
Let me know if you have any questions -- and sorry for the bad quality.
Edit: Using AllShare Cast does prevent using multiple apps at once. The UI speed when streamed does not run at 60fps.... looks like 30fps to me. I find this perfectly fine and the lag is too long for playing a game on. (My TV introduced some lag as well.) I have used Apple Airplay and this fees exactly the same when it comes to lag and performance.
did you say nexus 10 in the video? lol
could put a pop up note to correct that.
So that means if I am rooted (status modified) l am not able to do all share cast at all? Never heard of before, thanks a lot for that ! Am l still able to do other allshare operations?
btw: nice vid!

That is correct. You have to Triangle Away for any Samsung device that is using AllShare Cast.
As a side note, the AllShare Cast dongle supposedly works with Miracast now. Has anyone tested this yet? I have the dongle but no Miracast devices...

LOL. Yep I did say it accidentally. I did put a popup note on it when I posted it but I don't think those come through on the Android YouTube client. Haha

Yep I tried Triangle Away on my Note 2 but I couldn't get it to stick. Something on my phone keeps flipping it back to modified right after boot which also increments the flash counter back to 1. I wish I had known about this limitation before I bought the adapter or I would have just stuck to HDMI right from the start.....
And it is a rather annoying limitation.

Thanks for the review. Any issues with audio sync? Any method to get this working on CM10.1?
Thanks for this demo. I was thinking which to buy, the samsung made allshare dongle or Miracast compatible devices. Now I get a obvious answer.
I bought the netgear hoping to stream lots of video to my TV (Netflix, etc.) but the audio cuts out for a split second every few seconds - makes it pretty unique watchable. I'm running unmodified stock on my Note 10.1 and Note II - it's the same on both... anyone have any troubleshooting advice?

Hey does anyone know why my wifi keeps turning on automatically after about 40 seconds of streaming through mirror cast with my note 3 att.
