Compass heading wrong in maps 6.14.1 - Samsung Captivate Glide

It looks like the dreaded off-by-90-degrees compass bug has been reintroduced by the latest maps update (6.14.1 as of this post).
The most recent version I've confirmed as working properly is 6.12.0. Attached below if anyone needs it.

Gingerbread compass

Is there any GB rom that has the compass working correctly?
I've tried several different radios with leedroid 3.06r2 but with no joy
Thanks

I think no at the moment
perhaps with the official release there may be a fix
I fail to see the importance personally, but that's because I don't use any apps needing it. Google Maps would be handy but meh, I have a sat nav so rarely use that as it is
I do use google navigation, do a spot of geo caching to keep the kids interested when we are dragging them on country walks and I just don't like stuff not working.
Looks like I may have to downgrade until its fixed.
Have you tried CM7.0.3?
I found the compass and orientation sensor working correctly in 7.0.3 on my Desire.
Compass is a general bug in Gingerbread. It has been reported to Google and they have to release a fix.

[Q] Google Maps on Aurora v4.1?

OK, so I put Aurora v4.1 on my phone the other day. Had some minor issues during the process, but finally I got everything right. There's one problem, though.. Aurora doesn't have Google Maps by default and I can't get the application off the Market, because it won't show during search.
I eventually found an apk, installed it and it works. Well, sort of. There are some connection problems, but that might be a Radio Frimware issue. The thing that bothers mo most now is that Market won't install updates for it - it says my device isn't compatible.
Any tips? I mean, besides the obvious one - using an alternative application - which I have my own reasons against.
Thanks!

Compass with wrong data

Hi, anyone have problems with compass data with ICS?
I had one Arc and I have one Arc S with the same issue (another friend have the same issue, test with original ROM and with other ROM's ), when I upgrade to Android 4, the compass data have wrong value, and north is not on north magnetic.
Thanks
The pre-installed app most likely needs an update, it wouldn't be the version of android which is failing it
Pre-install app? how so?
I use 2 apps (Sat finder and other to terrestrial TV transmitter finder), in Android 2.3.4 works fine, but the same apps in ICS get wrong data.
why dont u calibrate the compass and see if it point correct north or not?
was your compass pre-installed on your arc before your bought it or did you download it, if you did download it ..its probably a error in the app and it needs to be updated it by the creators
yes
yeah,
recently i have a problem like u
you should calibrate the compass .

Google maps 7.0.2 problem

Hi,
A few weeks ago Google gives us new update to Google Maps with fully new design. From 7.0.2 (latest) update there appear a problem on my DHD (with JellyTime R11). While using this app screen is shacking up and down, what is a little bit annoing. I thouhgt there should't be a problem while using navi from google maps, but i was wrong. There is the same problem. I am going to go to another city, and navi will be needed. Is there any solution for this? Guys using this rom/device has got same problem as me? Is this problem on another rom/device?

I have the same problem on my Desire HD, using cyanogenmod 10.1 There are several reports about this on the internet for different devices / ROMs.
I guess the best option for now is to revert to maps 6.xx

I have the same problem.
I've read that deleting and reinstalling should fix it.
I have not tried yet as i can't be bothered with it. :cyclops:
I had the issue on maps 7.0.2 which was upgraded from maps 7.0.1
After I read your post I removed the app and installed maps 7.0.2 from play store. It seems to work well now (I only tested for 2 minutes).

NEW GOOGLE MAPS IS PURE CRAP. Here. Use this.
Google Maps 6.14.4 (APK) (Source: zippyshare.com)
Use whatever app you have to use to rid your device of that PURE GARBAGE that Google is trying to pass off as a new version of their "Google Maps" application. (I recommend a reboot before doing any further after removal.)
Download v6.14.4 and install it. (Remember to re-check your security settings to allow the install of third-party apps.)
For me: PROBLEM SOLVED.
Google really F'ed up with this new version.
I got the new v7.1 update from the store and it worked good so far. Tested on a 10 km navigation and a bit of looking around on the map.
Edit: Swapping between apps makes the map screen flicker when you are back in maps.
Offline problem
In my Inspire, first version 7 was unusable because of flicker. With latest update, flickering is only present when using cached maps with no internet connection, so can't use navigation... :crying:
The flicker only appears if you switch between Google Maps and any other app or if you scroll down the notification bar.
When you use only Maps there is no flickering
Greetings Alex
This is problem in Maps app itself not in DHD, since owners of phones from other manufacturers also report this issue. With latest Maps update, I think the issue is gone, but to be honest not tested fully.
7.2.0 is much better but the problem still persists after changing from portrait to landscape

I confirm that, but in my case its very strange, only notification bar flickers
The same for 7.3.0
Odesláno z mého Desire HD pomocí Tapatalk 4
same issue for my DHD using maps 7.0.1 (I reverted back to 6.4.14)
Happens on other devices as well, it 's a Maps 7 issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2368972
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2359744
I too have reverted to version 6 and try the new versions from time to time but it still hasn't been fixed. It has improved in the latest versions though, I used to be able to trigger it by pulling down the notification bar but this no longer seems to trigger it. Switching to another app still does though. I also get a blank square instead of a menu when I try to get traffic info of my route... very annoying.
Google keeps releasing new versions with 'bug fixes' in the 'What's new' field but they never really specify what 's been fixed. Has anyone tried the version from nov 2 yet?
I did not try the last maps 7, but had the same issue with Glob (based on maps api I think) AND JellyTime 4.2.2
Now I changed to CM11 4.4 nightly and it's ok with Glob, so maybe it's the same with Maps.

Google Maps glitches in CM10.2-20130902

Hi.
There's two issues with Google Maps in bubor's CM10.2 build 20130902:
1. On a clean install, Voice Recognition is not installed. This makes Google Maps crash when pressing the Voice Search button.
Solution: Install Google Voice Search
2. When Maps is open and the phone goes to sleep (both timeout and pressing the power button work), after turning the screen back on, Maps only displays a white screen (flickering when trying to scroll).
This seems to be an NVidia/GL problem, this pops up in logcat, just before sleep and just after wake up:
E/gralloc ( 115): NvGrPost: Failed, TEGRA_DC_EXT_FLIP 6 No such device or address
Later, there's multiple failed calls to NvRmChannelSubmit.
Restarting Maps fixes the problem.
Full logcat dump attached.
Solution: I have no idea.
/edit: Same in the 20130904. Keyboard light confirmed working, though.

I noticed that I had issues last time I used google maps on my phone, not just sleeping but when switching apps and then switching back to it ... pretty useless if I want to check anything and then go back to the phone when using GPS to navigate.
Maybe re-applying GAPPS might fix it, just don't update gmaps anymore ... ?? ... I donno man.. pretty BS they dropped support of our phones because of lack of neon support. Our hardware is still to this day more than adequate ... side by side, my phone is faster response than an S3 with JB.
The new GMaps is still buggy. The glitches are present on other devices as well.

Other devices as in other Tegra 2 devices, or all 4.3 devices?
I found a post referring to a similar issue on the nvidia devzone where it turned out to be an application problem.
Google Earth does not show this issue. Can't do a logcat right now, but I suppose that's an EGL application, too.
/edit: Alright, I just learned that Google Maps 7.x is pretty new (first 7.0.0 release in July) and that downgrading to 6.14 might solve my issues. Oh the outrage in Google Maps for Android product forum on Google Groups.

I'm on a Tegra 3 device, the LG O4X HD and do experience the issue sometimes.

thanks for clarifying that for us!
This thread has a link to the latest Maps 6 (6.14.4):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357873
It works just fine without those issues mentioned above.
I also had the black screen issue in Maps when switching apps. As others reported, this issue is not present in Maps version 6 so I downgraded to this version.
Now I'm wondering if there is a way to fix Maps to version 6? It is annoying to update the other apps one by one, since clicking in the "Update all" button in Google Play will update Maps as well.
Same issue
I have the same issue on v7.2 with both CM and Stock Rom.
My device is the Captivate Glide (i927)
I notice that some users are reporting that through Google Play they can update to Maps 7.x, however I am unable to do so, from Google Play i can only update to Maps version 6.14.4 on my 4x HD.
What firmware version are the people getting 7.x running?
Regards,
Cecu

I suspect that this may be due to too new of a kernel. More specifically, nvidia appears to have made a lot of commits to the tegra kernel drivers. I'm going to take a closer look at the diffs tonight.
Just my $0.02.

Now on CM 11.0 I have a reverse problem: I can't delete the stock 7.x version of Maps and install working 6.14 version. The only solution I found was to roll back on CM 10.1.3, install 6.14 Maps, make a Titanium backup of 6.14 version, reflash CM 11.0 and restore 6.14 from Titanium backup. But after every reboot Google Maps are reverting to 7.x version. So I have to restore 6.14 backup every time I reboot my phone, and that's rather inconvenient. I glad that the CM 11 is very stable and allows weeks of uptime.
Dear bubor, can you make your next CM build with 6.14 Maps version or without Maps at all? 7.x version isn't working properly on Glide anyway...
Well many people have reported this . . But for the time being as a temp fix you can do this .. it works or me .
