Problem adding .apk to custom rom - HTC One X

Hello all,
I'm currently running RENOVATE 8.0.0 on my HoX. Basicly outdated in using roms.
How can i add an app (world clock) to it during or after installing?
I tried dropping the apk in system/apps and data/apps before install.
Also tried running the apk after install with es file manager however it just says "app not installed" after clicking install.
It's part of sense and i have RENOVATE installed as nosense w/ nova and the weather + camera app work fine.
also checked the Revolution hd rom and they have the worldclock app working fine with nosense nova.
I'm probably overlooking something simple, any help is much appreciated as i would like to edit the custom roms a bit more.

[Q] apps installation problem with custom rom

Hi,
I'm using Desire HD and my problem is sometime I can't install apps from market or even .apk via HTC Sync or SD card. It's just download .apk from market and then nothing happens.
I already tested with 2 different roms:
Android Revolution HD 2.0.5. This rom can't install music mod and some another apps but i can't remember its name.
Then after that i switch to LeeDroid v1.4.1 rom, this rom can install music mod but can't install xda-developers app (just tested this rom for a day, so i haven't found any another app which can't be installed)
Is there anyone who got the same problem with me ? or it's just me ? and, of course, how to fix it ?
//
Err... and a little different question: how can i increase LeeDroid's auto brightness ? it seem a little bit dark for me

[Q] Adding apps to ROM

(...) I am trying to add my most used apk's to the ROM so they'll install upon flashing. I added all my apk files to system/apps dir as told, but after flash and first boot, only 1 of the 19 apps is present. What am I missing?

Hi guys and gals! If anyone with experience out there could help out, I'd greatly appreciate it. Trying to add to Redux 1.2.
Not a DEV or anything but i have flashed many roms in my time but i can tell you this, from my experience i can tell you that i assume there is some kind of file size/type limitation when you add apps to a ROM as i have attempted adding poweramp, ADW EX, mybackup root, file manager (from AOSP builds) and a few other apps that i use to the ROM but it will only install rom manager, mybackup root, file manager and the balance will FC each time i attempt to launch the app and if i want to use it i have to install the app again.
The only flawless solution is the method the RC team is using on their current RCMixS ROMS.
That is heavy coding on another level.

Nope. It will not work (saying without checking it).
But you can always backup the things and check anything.

Tip how make Gmaps usable
anyone got an issue with new gmaps on CM7 stable or nightly. The best way we can do is delete data and uninstal gmaps ten download attached apk and instal it. (then don't upgrade) leave at this version.
Is the older version of Gmaps 5.0 but works well on CM7 or other Gbreed roms.
Your choice to use the newest one with font issue and laggy or use older without all features that have new version but work smooth and fonts are clear.
I hope that help some users.
Sorry for my bad english.
Good info really.
Font is very clear and even the scrolling is very good. This should be the temporary option for those who worry about Google maps.

Thank you very much, you're a life saver.
I use google maps on a daily basis.
Using the old version of the maps does it. Thanks for the suggestion and attached file.

What features is lost in this version compared with new one? Is map cache available in this version?
Did anyone check the maps font issue in 2.2 sense custom roms. I think it was there in sense roms too. Just checked a sense rom.
Maps font issue maybe not the issue with cm7 as everyone is thinking.

I reinstalled the stock rom and am on the latest maps and I don't have any issues with the fonts.

The best way to make Gmaps clear ans usefull on CM7 is faind a way how we can extract Gmaps from stock rom and create .APK
If anyone can do this Gmaps will work well on newest version
the difference name of file is on CM 7 5.6.0 gmm-android-google on 2.2 stock is 5.6.0 gmm-android-htc probably if we got 5.6.0 gmm-android-htc then if we update to newest version we got a tweaked version by htc to work well on low resolution screens.
I'm interesting the problem occurs in othert low res android device like motorola flipout and some others

Answering my own question: no, this gmaps doesn't have map cache. Its too old.
I think that the problem with the fonts is related with 3D buildings on maps. Maybe this is the cause of lags on scroll, too.
I dont need 3D buildings, because I dont see any reason to it, but map cache is important to me. I'll try to find an intermediate version with cache and without 3d, and lets see...
Edit: My bad. 5.0 already have 3d buildings and cache also. Maybe its related with screen size.
I tried to install the older version of google maps but I don't manage to make it work. After I installed it the application stopped unexpectedly.
What can I do ?
EDIT:
I solved it, something strange (at least for me) happened, I was unable to uninstall the previous version 5.8 even with root uninstaller. I then browse with file manager in system/app and try to delete the map file but some problem can't delete it. Then I installed Titanium Backup and converted google maps into an app, moved it to SD and then uninstall it with success. I install the 5.0 and now I have a smooth app
maybe this will help somebody.

[REQUEST] AOSP apps package Android L

I've been using the Android L port and I'm loving it. The only problem is that I hate all the official google apps. Plus the ROM only comes with Google photos. I really want to put something together once the ROM is more stable (although it really is good right now) that includes aosp style apps.
Does anyone know where I can get the apps? Can I just pull them from a custom ROM? Or can someone put together a zip that has a few aosp apps? I'm mainly thinking browser, gallery and a file manager, but suggestions are welcome.
EDIT: I was able to pull the apks out of another ROM, I chose the latest (7-20 at time of writing this) CM11 and put the files where they should be /system/app and I changed the permissions to match other files in the same location. Then I rebooted to recovery and wiped both caches. File manager (CM File Manager) and gallery worked fine, I can't figure out browser though. I found an app on the play store that was an AOSP Browser installer and tried that too, but browser keeps crashing on launch. So if anybody knows how to make AOSP browser install please enlighten me.
Thank you.

Hi!
I checked the v9.1 ROM and calculator + calc widgets are in the setup (into the /system/app dir), also the torch, which is named FlashLight.
Anyway, the M8 stock calculator is so simply, while the lintern app is so very big. You'll find better replacements for free at Google Play Store or in xda forums.
There are a lot of ways to turn on the flash lights using buttons or widgets instead installing overweight apps.
PS. Did you checked the Tools folder in the app drawer?
Best regards,
ducted.

thanks for reply.
i'd prefer my rom include official htc apps, i checked system/apps and saw them my own too, but when i install the rom they are not included in app drawer.
i think it's beeing S-ON Problem.
i can use third-party apps, but my problem is why they didn't installed during installation.
yep, i checked it, and also search them in app drawer. calculator widget is installed, but Calculator.apk isn't.
This is weird, but doesn't have nothing to see with being s-on or s-off. Are just standard apps.
If you wan't I can repackage that apps in a zip file and you could try to flash it with TWRP (install zip file). That should work.
Everything else will remain untouched, the zip file just will install Calculator.Apk and FlashLight.apk

Btw, did you flashed your firmware acording to use ARHD 9.1? Your device won't work properly with that rom using the stock firmware. Anyway I should prevent you to update your firmware now until a 100% verified well known source of the latest firmware is released.
I also decompiled Calculator.apk from ARHD 9.1 and I found debug flags enabled, so really was built using a developer preview of KitKat 4.4.3.
Calculator.apk from ARHD 9.1:
File: LogUtils.smali
const-string v1, "Security Debug flag: true"
Calculator.apk from ARHD 10.1:
File: LogUtils.smali
const-string v1, "Security Debug flag: false"

This doesn't explain why is not installed, but confirms that you should keep away from that rom build. If debug flags are enabled for all apps, will provide less performance than other builds.
If you already flashed your firmware to v2.22.1540.3 (that is also a developer preview), you should try to flash firmware v2.22.401.4 and then install ARHD 10.1 instead ARHD 9.1.
But as I already mentioned, that firmware has not been confirmed to come from HTC, it could be a custom build and could brick your phone.
Be careful!
