Hello,
I have a locked T-999 and I'm getting my hands on an unlock code. Can I buy any cheap microsim card to unlock my device or does it have to be AT&T?

I would think it'd need to be a tmobile sim, but I'm really not sure about that.

Insert any non T-Mobile micro SIM. You have to have a SIM that's not T-Mobile. T-Mobile s3 doesn't have access to unlock menu until another SIM is in the phone. At least it wasn't possible when I unlocked mine months ago

Thanks for the responses!
So I can just get this one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NET10-MICRO...130794368103?pt=SIM_Cards&hash=item1e73f3ac67) and it is guaranteed to bring up the unlock menu?

or just go in to ATT and ask them to use one for a sec. Im sure if you tell them you need to unlock the phone to their network they will have no problem letting you use one for 30 sec.

SO you probably bought a SIM locked SIII.
Example: You bought a T-Mobile GS3 and are trying to use a AT&T sim card. You need the carrier unlock code from the originating carrier that issued the phone.
What company is your sim card from? And what company is on the back of the phone?

Why not tell your carrier that you are going overseas and want to use your phone and ask them to unlock it I did and T-Mobile sent me the code for my phone at no charge. My problem is coming up with a non-tmobile sim card.
thanks but i tried that a while back. no such options for me

i think o2 won't do it for a while
I got my unlock code directly from AT&T. I do not have another carrier sim card to place in the phone (that will fit, this is a smaller than standard size sim card). There are people in my office that have T-mobile, sprint, or Virgin but have full size sim cards.
Any suggestions or instructions??
Thanks!!
I've heard about a few people going into t mobile and asking to borrow one. They shouldnt mind they are probably thinking you'll use on tmob after unlocking

I'm wondering - would a SIM from an AT&T MVNO (such as RedPocket) be considered a "non AT&T SIM card" for purposes of unlocking?
I just bought an "H20 Wireless" micro sim card on Ebay for .99.
Hopefully it will do the trick...will post an update (if anyone cares) if it does or doesn't work when I receive it.
Why don't you just store the code and use it when you get any non att sim? I mean, why waste money, even a $, unless well you have a willing non att friend who can lend you his sim.

Got it. I didn't think of selling phone. I was thinking on my lines given that I am a frequent traveler, and get code from AT&T within 90 days or earlier of getting a new phone.
OK. so i put the H2O sim card in and reboted several times and all I get is "sim card not provisioned".
So I just borrowed a Verizon sim card from someone in the office that has a Verizon Galaxy S III and got the same thing.
I am not being prompted for an unlock code?
What Am I doing wrong???
I have bought a service to get an Unlock Code for my Samsung Galaxy S3 T999N which is SIM Locked by Metro PCS. They provided me with some 4 codes: NETWORK, PROVIDER, SUBPROVIDER, DEFREEZE.
When I turn on my phone with a non-metropcs sim, the phone prompts: "PIN to unlock SIM service provider" so I put the PROVIDER code that I got from FATSGSM after hitting "Unlock" I get the following message: "unable to unlock sim service provider"
What is wrong? Could the PIN provided by this service be wrong?
Just an FYI, I am outside the US right now.
Have you tried using the metro sim?

I don't have the metro sim.
Ok. Im not certain about it, but it might be required for the initial unlock. Hopefully someone else can say for sure.

Thanks for reply to my post.
This might not be true because if you have the Metro PCS sim card inside, you will not get the unlock box. You only get the box to put the unlock code in when you put a non-MetroPCS sim card.
Can anyone corroborate this information?

He means it may need to be activated with the carrier first in order to be unlocked.. Some phones do require this.. You can try the region unlock app but I'm not sure if it works with s3

I used it when I got my replacement S3 a while back and it said the unlock was successful. I have no way to test if it really was or if it also SIM unlocked though. I wouldnt expect it to do so, but in my experience, it is safe to try.

Guys, I use the method in the ATT Note 4 forum to unlock my phone when it came out long time ago. Now after 5.1.1 and security updates. No more unlocked (asking for codes when putting Tmobile sim again). Any one knows the thread to unlock this phone again to use with other GSM carriers?
