You can't root 587 directly. You have to downgrade to an earlier version of firmware to do so, and then flash a 587 kernel to get it back to the most updated firmware (therefore keeping root).
Flash this, root with this (by running the runme.bat file), and then flash this
Good luck!

You have to use flashtool to flash firmwares/kernels onto your phone. Here's a tutorial on how to do it.

Did you tried sony offical unlock? If you can't either, I think there's nothing you can do.
[I saw some website (don't remember the url) that claimed that you could unlock it via imei codes, but it was pretty expensive (€ 49,00)... Plus I'm not sure if this was for carrier or bootloader unlock.]

At this Sony thingy where I can check if my BL is unlockable or not it says "No". So I can't flash any unofficial kernels.

Post in the right section. questions goes in to Q/A section. Read rules before posting.
Absolutely NO, locked bootloader's always stuck with the default kernel.
Technically yes. But only from official firmware ftf files and using flashtool

Hi,
I m new to the forums.
I have a sony xperia s with a locked bootloader but has been rooted.
i have cwm installed on it and currently have XZXperiance_2 installed.
I would like to go back to the offical ICS 4.0.4 Rom.
The phone says it is still logged as 4.0.4 but with different system on it.
I would like to go back to the origional system because of the official JB Update in the next few weeks.
If some could help me step by step it would be much help =]
I have set it back to factory settings but doesnt go back to the origional system i dont think i backed up the old system =[
Any help would be much appriciatted,
Many Thanks
Dan
Use flashtool from development part of Xperia s forum.
Download it, instal drivers, download ICS 4.0.4 generic world and flash it via flashtool.
