I'm going to try transplanting these apks into a Sprint Stock 4.1.2 ROM zip and installing. I'll let ya know what happens after.

Great work! Do you have the the original odexed apks available? Trying to install the gmail app as an apk on stock unrooted 4.1.2.

Huh? The Gmail app is a system app. It needs to be installed to /system/app. You cannot install it without root access.

You can side load updated versions of system apps without root access, and you get a notice that the app will replace a current system app but preserve user data. Whenever the Play Store app is updated and gets extracted and posted all over the forums, I just side load, agree to the warning and proceed. However, the system app that is being side loaded needs to be in an installable apk format which I understand to be its native odex format.

Although I'm no expert, I believe it still won't work. The reason you can install the apk extracted from the Play Store is because it is not a system app. It gets installed to /data/app. Apk's that come with a stock build are system apps, and cannot be installed into /data/app. They need to be installed into /system/app. Nothing can replace anything that is stored in /system unless you have root access. (/system is mounted as read-only in Android.)

Be my guest. Here ya go: http://www.androidtaskforce.com/2012/11/01/download-lg-nexus-4-system-dump/

Just an update. I was able to insert a few of the apps into an install zip and get them working with no problems. Wallet, keyboard, currents, play music, browser, Google +, and a couple others worked just fine. Gmail did not as I couldn't just insert all the framework apks as it would force close right away. Nothing ground breaking, but the new features are fun to see and experiment with.
The photosphere feature is very neat. I like the GPS embedded aspect of it too. YouTube seems to have a slicker interface. All in all 4.2 is very much improved over 4.1.2. I can't wait for that fresh aosp source!

[Q] Is there a Vending.apk that works with EG22?

I tried installing and copying over 10 different Vending.apk's to /system/app folder and none work!
A few older versions of markets(before WP7 look) installed and i could open them and browse apps but as soon as i push on the app button in market, try to install app or do anything else the market would crash.
I removed usual amount of unneeded apk's from /system/app folder,is there any apk's that require the market to work or it doesn't work period?
I noticed there was 4 or 5 Terminal.apk's in /system/app folder and i removed them are they needed for market to function or is it something else?I only removed the things i always remove besides Terminal.apk's.
Its a shame because other than market not working its a solid rom.

The new market posted works fine for me on EG22.
Don't think your problem is the vending.apk. You either removed somthing you shouldn't have or the version of ROM you are using has something broken in it. "Stock" odexed EG22 has no problems with the market.
I had no problem with the market in the stock deodexed rom either but I upgraded to the new market and am using it with no issues.

You probably right, time to put back some apk's and see which one is needed for market.
Did you try clearing data in the market app?
Please post the answer if you figure it out. I'm having the same problem.
Have you tried fixing permissions followed by a reboot after pushing the apk?

[Q] I want some apps back

Hi, Im currently using Bobaridier v1.3 but when i changed from 1.2 to 1.3 the developer removed the original email app along with googles and also removed the Microbes live wallpaper which i love.
I would like to know if there is a way for me to extract those apps from the old 1.2V. I tried restoring the Microbes wallpaper with TB but it failed. I also tries installing a dump from the nexus and it gives me a parsing package error.
Like i said id like the original email app from samsung since i hate the AOSP looks and interface.. Thanks
I think i will be going back to v1.2 and then trying to see if i can do a backup of the email app and restore it in v1.3 if not is there any good apps for email that have a similarity to the stock app? I hate the grey color in this AOSP.
I used to get the errors installing MicrobesLWP. easiest way to get it installed is just push to the apps folder.
Actually pushing everything to the right apps folder always worked for me.
Edit;
http://db.tt/6S1mZ48U (email.apk)
http://db.tt/cTF3DoJP (Microbesgl.apk)
Move those with root explorer or somesuch to /system/app should work

What are the permissions to be set at? I pushed this and the stock file manager to system apps, fixed permissions via recovery, but neither work. When I use Root Explorer to check the apks they show different permissions from all the other system apps. MusicPlayer and SecNoteMyFiles show rwxrwxr-x while the other apks show rw-r-r-- I guess I need to manually change them?
EDIT - Actually what happens is they don't show in the app drawer, so I tried to install them from the system app folder, but I keep getting an error "Application not installed".

No go for me. They just don't want to work. I don't know why. I was on the stock ROM via ODIN. Everything worked. I pulled five apks from the system app folder. Three of them work, but the MusicPlayer and FileManager don't. I tried them both ways. I left the permissions as is, rebooted, and nothing. I did what you said, and still nothing. Got me. I'm running Jedi Mind Trick JB 3.

First I want to thank you, and say sorry for making you help me so much, as I'm now realizing it would have worked if I just used your version from the beginning. I've been trying to get the one I pulled from my stock ROM when I was running it. It seems my APK is not the right one. Yours worked the very first time. It's also bigger than mine by about a MB. Where did you pull it from? I pulled mine directly from the system/app folder.
Also since mine didn't work for this, or my File Manager APK, would it be possible for you to share that too? Or tell me where to get it? Thanks again.

Installed Deodex MA7 update (sprint) still getting update nusaince?

Ok the system update crap has been driving me nuts.
so I finally got the deodex rooted ma7 update for the Note II (sprint) and its STILL bugging me about a system update ??
what gives? I installed deodex ma7 and ma7 modem.
am I missing something?

Installing MC2 is one way, but since MC2 kills both Wallet and your battery, I don't think it's a super great option.
Found an app called System Update, but so far even uninstalling it does not prevent the notification.
blargh...
I've now backed up and un-installed System Update, Smart Device Manager, Sprint DM Service, Sprint Installer, SysScope, Sprint Zone, and still, the notification is there upon reboot.
Logcat Extreme shows some weird stuff at the moment. It's showing something called SystemUpdateService verifying that the update zip is downloaded into /cache, but then it's also showing an error that says SystemUpdateService application does not exist. So what's running then? Maybe a dalvik cached copy. I'm going to reboot into twrp and wipe cache and dalvik and we'll see...

The APK you're looking for is FWUpgrade.apk
-go to /cache
-delete update file
-go to system/app
-Rename FWUpgrade.apk to FWUpgrade.apk.bak
-Accept the update and attempt to run(it will end the count down and do nothing)
-reboot phone and it'll never ask you again to update

So far as we know so far that's correct.
Possible exception that I haven't tested myself or seen anyone else yet either:
The xposed framework hack and any normal market version of Wallet doesn't work so far.
But there is another way to get working Wallet which is to use a patched wallet apk that doesn't need xposed framework. I am currently using that patched wallet apk and no xposed framework. Maybe that version will work on mc2 or maybe not. I haven't seen anyone say about it yet. All I've seen is that the regular market version of wallet plus xposed framework which works on ma7 does not work on mc2.
Battery life dont really seem much different to I me. And I never use wallet much anyhow.

Well... es explorer says there are no files in /cache including not the filename that logcat clearly shows. Yes I have show hidden files in settings and yes I'm rooted.
And... I already have no such apk named FWUpgrade.apk anywhere.
So I'm rather mystified. Because I still get the notification even after wiping both cache and dalvik in twrp and rebooting.

...ok so after all this, with all these apks deleted and the cache empty etc, then I went to the notification and accepted the update one more time, it failed of course. And now finally I think that cleared it.
So it's not enough to accept the update and let it fail.
It's not enough to delete (or freeze or rename etc) one or more apk's.
You have to do both. Disable the apk(s). Wipe cache or delete files in /cache. THEN accept the update and let it fail.

Yay!
Now just to figure out which of those eleventy-seven apk's I removed was the only one that actually mattered....
Maybe one of them was named FWUpdate.apk as the other Brian mentioned, and I just never saw it's filename because I was seeing the package name in Titanium or System Tuner Pro instead and maybe already uninstalled it before he posted.

Galaxy S II Missing settings.apk

Hi guys, i am new to xda. I have a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S II with stock jelly bean 4.1.2 (***LSW firmware version). I accidentally deleted my settings application (i converted it to user app by using rom toolbox and it disappeared). I have no backups so i was looking for someone who could extract a new "Settings.apk" compatible with my device and firmware version so that i could reinstall it. Thanks in advance to everyone!

Yes, as i said in the first post i have no backup and the system/app folder doesn't contain any settings.apk. It disappeared completely. I also looked for it on the web but no one seems to have uploaded it online. This is the reason why I have posted here.

Thank you very much! But i'm not missing "SecSettings.apk" i miss "Settings.apk". Don't you have one in your root folder?
There is no Settings.apk in any folders. Is your ROM definitely Stock Samsung 4.1.2?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I looked for SecSettings in my folder and i think i confused it with SecSettingsprovider..so maybe the settings app is just called secsettings (unlike many other phones) i'll try to install your apk!
I downloaded your application and it seems to be what I was looking for! But I can't install it in way! How do I install it?
Use a root explorer and copy it to /System/app and set permissions in the usual manner
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I moved the apk to system/app and set the permissions, then rebooted, but it seems that it doesn't work. I tried in many ways. I installed it from rom toolbox, from root explorer, from "system app installer", but despite every operation and installation gives me a succes message as response, nothing happens. There is the file in system app, but every attempt to open the settings fails with a force close and there is no icon in my app drawer.
Do you have the secsettings.odex in your /system/app?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No I don't have any SecSettings.odex, I only have apk, even after the reboot.
Copy both the SecSettings.apk from the previous link and the SecSettings.odex from this link, set permissions and reboot again.

It didn't work. I used every combination on this world for the permissions before rebooting (including rw-r--r-- and also rwxrwxrwx) but nothing happens, the app doesn't result to be installed. (I attached a screenshot of my file manager showing that the files actually are in the root folder)
Hmm.. I'm stumped then. I can only suggest you reflash your firmware
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I just read on google news that a new update is starting to roll out for the s2..do you think updating will solve the problem? Either by using OTA (if it still works without settings) or kies..
