[Q] prepaid gophone sim card in tmo note2 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey. I'm a TMO US N2 owner. Unfortunately, we dont have ay signal here in our area of NJ after sandy passed through. Actually, we still have no power and no internet, and so no phone as well prompted me to get a prepaid sim card fro AT&T.
I originally purchased the $65/mo prepaid plan with 1GB of data. But it appears the sales lady punched in the $50/mo unlimited (no smartphone) plan.
Has anyone used this prepaid plan with their note 2s? I still see 4G in my status bar (i was able to install skype, maildroid and gmail are working as well). But if I turn on mobile hotspot, it won't turn on.
Should I stick with this plan (and save $15) or go back ad tell them they gave me the wrong plan?
Please advice.
Thanks

bump anyone?? much appreciated.

Yes it does work. I just got mine in today. I used my gophone sim that I purchased with a gophone earlier this year. One little thing though is that I had to chop up the sim card with a knife for it to fit.

[Q] US Coverage

I've got an unlocked Nexus on Telus and was wondering if anyone has recommendations as to how to get data functional in the US as a Canadian with this phone? Is it possible to just pick up a prepaid gift credit card and use it to get a prepaid SIM somewhere like Walmart or Target?
I haven't run across any big stores that sell a SIM alone.
For my GSM Gnex, I went to wal-mart and bought a $18 TMobile phone, took the SIM out of it, and activated it in the Nexus. I was impatient. You can buy a sim for TMobile online, OR at one of their stores. Tmobile has some $2 - $3 per day "unlimited" sim card plans... which is just about perfect for a vacation.
You can also go to AT&T and get a prepaid GOPhone SIM, but they have HORRIBLE pricing.
if you are staying longer than a week or two, it might be cheaper to order a sim and just pay for a month:
http://www.straighttalksim.com/
I'd go with the "AT&T Branded SIM", they have better data coverage overall... but it gets a bit spotty in NYC/SF
Thanks for the tip!

UK HOX being used in USA

Evening folks,
I've got an unlocked HOX on 3's network and will be travelling to the USA next month on holiday. Rather than pay the horrific roaming charges they want, I'd like to just insert a US prepay micro SIM and use it while I'm there. I'm not so much interested in the amount of talk time or texts I get, but I'd like to be able to use some data while I'm there (perhaps 100Mb?).
Have any of you had experience with taking your unlocked HOX to the US and using data on a prepaid SIM? If so, what would you recommend?
TIA,
10x...

In us you have 1 choice for a pre paid micro sim. 2 depending on where your gonna be. If you headed south you might me able to get cricket. they are a prepaid company that just started to sell the 4S. You also might be able to use H20 but I'm not sure if they support micro SD or not. But AT&T will not give you a pre paid micro SD card. I tried they will give you a prepaid standard size sim card you can use a sim cutter the put it in your HOX. assuming the one x will accept in. They us the same 1900mhz band so i don't see why not. Yor last hope will be t-mobile they will sell you a prepaid micro SD card and you can use them just about anywhere in use. Only down side is T-mobile use the 1700mhz band for 4G. So your gonna be stuck on slow 2G(Edge) data speeds because thats the network that use the 1900mhz band. they have only a hand full of cites that use the 1900mhz band for 4G so depending on where you are you might get lucky. Hope this helped you.

Should I just be able to pick up an AT&T SIM here in the UK, activate it just before I go, then add credit when I'm there? Would I have to buy some sort of expensive data plan?

Resolved! I spoke at length with an AT&T advisor and was told that all I had to do was go to any of their stores, ask for a $50 Unlimited Plan prepaid micro-SIM, and use that. Unlimited calls, texts, and data for the month that I'll be in the US. I made absolutely certain that she understood I'd be using my unlocked HOX bought in the UK and she stated that'd be fine. Most excellent!

With one possible exception. The $50 plan isn't for smartphones. People trying to use the i9300 in the U.S. on that plan have been consistanly flagged and told via text message that they need to buy a smartphone data add-on.
Here's the info from AT&T's website...
Data Packages
Access the Web, email, Facebook, social networks, and more! Data packages are available with the $50 Unlimited Monthly Plan and the $25 Monthly Plan. Smartphone users must purchase a data package with an eligible plan to use data/Web services.
$25 for 1 GB
$15 for 200 MB
$5 for 50 MB

[Q] T-Mobile $30 100 Min, Unlimited Data and Text Plan?

My current Tmobile contract is ending in December (Classic Plan), and Im planning to move to a Nexus 4 off of contract. Thats besides the point. I talked to a T-Mobile CS rep this morning and they said its possible for me to move to this plan and keep my number. Good news as I thought it was only for new adopters of Tmobile. But the rep said I had to buy the activation kit from Walmart since its a Walmart promotion and then call CS to switch over. He said it wasn't possible to get the activation kit directly from the Tmobile site.
Why couldn't I buy the activation kit straight from Tmobile, as they sell them? I see others mention they are doing this but I dont know if this is because they are new customers.
Anyone have experience with switching to this plan?
Okay this is what you do.
This is a walmart plan....but its also a web plan you can order to from there website most reps don't know what their talking about!! .....I know bcuz this is my full proof plan.
1. This plan can only be activated on a new sim card.
2. Go to a T-mobile store and ask them for a new sim card bcuz yours is messed up/make up something about your card being slow on 4g.
3. The reps there arnt going to know about the plan oor say its not possible. But get the sim card and then *Important*
-Only call CS and tell them you want to switch to the online plan $30 and you have your New* sim card' (Activation kit is only a sim card the cs rep on the phone should be able to switch you to the plan)
The problem is ppl think you need the kit/walmart to do it, but that's not true I got the plan twice once for me and one for my friend the same way.
Tell the cs rep if they don't know (That you know you could get that plan 'activating' the new sim card you got for free from the tmobile store)
You just have to be persistent. I had to call 4 times.
Remember when calling that they have access to all their plans and Do* know about it, its just the only way to get this is to activate a new sim card, and yes you can keep your same number!
If you have any problems feel free to pm me!
This is byfar the best plan ever when you us GV + SIPdroid + Pbxes.org is the best ever! Plus t-mobiles wifi calling app goes good to save battery I literraly never use enough data and talk over 2000minutes on data =2gb a month some wifi/4g

[Q] Hotspot Micro SIM usable in HTC ONE?

So I'm wanting to take the SIM out of my Mifi 4620L jetpack and use it in my HTC ONE. Drove about 40 minutes to the Verizon store since I live in a rural area hoping to pick up the phone off contract and just slap my Mifi's SIM into it. Silly me forgot about 'activating' the phone on the network and that if I did that I'd end up switching to their share everything plan and the crapfest that is. What was interesting was that they said they were NOT allowed to sell me an off contract phone from the store. I'd have to order it online or something and then when asking about if I order it online at off contract then have it set for in-store pickup 'my' phone I ordered would have to be delivered to them and that they just couldn't give me one they already had in stock. Pretty fed up with Verizon at this point. I then asked if I'd be able to buy the phone on contract - activate it - and then cancel the plan with the termination fee coming out to actually about the same price as if I pay full retail anyway and then I'd have the phone and no contract and I could just put my SIM into it and be happy and on my way. The manager lady said she wouldn't do that for me.
Well screw them cause I can do it online and such anyways. Then I realize that if I did that I'd STILL have to switch to the share everything plan. So what I am thinking about doing is asking a friend who also uses Verizon if I can buy the phone through his account on a 2 year contract then cancel the entire phone plan and everything and then try putting my hotspot's SIM into the ONE and I'd still be locked into my $50 a month for 5GB of data.
Why do I want to do this? I hardly talk over the phone and I use Google Talk for unlimited calling and texting anyway so I only need data since I get 4G LTE at home, work, and most places I visit. Oh and one other thing the brilliant retail rep told me: The Mifi SIM wouldn't even work in the HTC ONE since it's not an NFC SIM... That really irks me because yes the phone will still function! Just because I can't use NFC payments with the other SIM doesn't mean the phone won't work the way I want it to function! Anyone have experience with this or suggestions? I am NOT paying an extra $80 a month just for the privilege of using a phone. Right now I use a wifi enabled tablet connected to my hotspot as my phone and I'm happy with it - I just wanted to consolidate them into one device and use pure data.

Use without Sim Card

Alright....I'm sold on this phone......It will be my new phone.
I'm currently finishing out my contract on Verizon (ugh, moving on). In the meantime, I'd like to purchase this one NOW just to get everything setup. I want to flash/tinker/optimize it to my liking. Will I run into any issues doing this with no Sim Card in the phone? Once my contract finishes out, I'll leave Verizon and pop a sim card from somewhere else (maybe T-Mobile).

No, you will not have any problem at all. Just connect to wifi during initial setup! Congrats for finally leaving VZN, glad I did. Who all are you considering. Right now I am using Straight Talk with AT&T's GSM sim; unlimited talk text, and 5 gigs of data (after that 2g) for 45$/month. I can up it to 10 gigs for just 55$/month. Data speeds are insane like 80MBPS down. Service has been great just seeing if there is any other prepaid or contract plans to consider.

Woah! That Straight Talk deal sounds amazing........I want that! I can't beat that with what I've researched. Where you live? Wondering how good Straight Talk is (considering its a 2nd-tier Carrier)

Yeah it really is a great deal from ST. I currently live in Northern VA in the suburbs outside of Washington, DC. Using the AT&T GSM sim your data is not throttled until you reach either the 5gig or 10gig mark according to your plan. ST also has SIMS for VZN (won't work with this phone, and DL speeds are capped at 5mbps), T-Mobile not sure if the speeds are capped, since we have the second sim tray I am going to throw a T-Mobile sim in it. These are no contract plans however you can setup autopay and get a discount. Most of us buy our phones unlocked or off contract now a days anyways so we are getting the same phones and coverage for a discount.
As a long time Verizon customer, then Fi for a year, I have seen no issues with Straight Talk with AT&T.

Wow....I live in Alexandria VA! So, your testimony would be exactly what I'm looking for! Small world. I'll definitely be getting this Straight Talk plan. FYI, just ordered my OnePlus 3.
Did you Order your Straight Talk nano sim card online or did you walk into a WalMart or something?

Always nice to meet a local XDA-er and android enthusiast. I picked up one from WalMart because I couldn't wait after I got my 1+. However the one at WalMart was ~$69.99. It came with Verizon sim cards, ATT sim cards, T-Mobile sim cards and a month of 45$ service. If you just ordered your OP3 i'd say just order your sim online its like 99 cents I think and you have some time to wait .
Any chance you were able to pick up a Dash Car Charger with your order? Still showing as out of stock for our area

As far as I know the service won't be activated until you choose to do so. I mean it's either $55 now or $55 a month from now lol.
tmobile next month is $70 unlimited data with higher data speeds, if you want a lil faster dl speeds i would check that out plus look at the maps for the area you live in and hangout in.
