I downloaded it just to peek inside, and it contains much of the stuff that will eventually be in the next goo.im gapps (minus the updated google apps that aren't in Google Play yet), as well as a few other apps and livewallpapers... etc.

There is a Script named "ROM Cleaner" that takes care of what we call Bloatware, Compatible with the majority of Sense ROMs(also non-Sense ones).
We know that it depends of the user considering an app as a bloatware ! (for example if I'm a user of HTCLaputa I won't see it as a bloatware for me )
Check this link of the script's Thread for more information : Rom Cleaner
I wish that my post pushes a lil' bit the value of your interesting Thread and not the inverse.
Best Regards !
Indeed as they say "One mans trash is another mans treasure" just because you don't use it doesn't mean its "bloatware" I'm sure a lot of people would use the Face book stuff for example.
What I think would be better is a list of what every apk does then let the users decide though I'm sure that exists somewhere on this forum already

Hi Jezz_X
I totally Agree with what you said, and I've appreciated the old saying you have mentioned
For the "APK list" you've asked about, you can always check the link of the "ROM Cleaner" I've posted above, It contains a list of almost all APK contained in ROMs + informations for each APK
You might want to check your list. Just followed it and when I go to homescreen, no boxes for any widgets. Just as well I did a nand backup b4 deleteing.
It would probably be more appropriate to name this as safe to remove apks instead of bloatware. ;-)

well I can ensure that I have removed all these apks and I haven't observed any issues at all anywhere..

Most of the apks that you removed are the user apk which reside in system. Those apks can be on data/app too without problems.
As long as you don't remove the really system apks such as GoogleServicesFramework.apk, HtcLocationService.apk, HtcSettingsProvider.apk and so on... you will not have any issue.
widget apks can be removed. datadashboard, autosync, the whole lot. probably were round 30 odd of them

I found the best and easiest way to do this for actually removing apps is to root the phone first then download the Terminal Emulator from the app store and start it up. In the command prompt first type "su" which logs you in and then mount the phone to rw by typing in "mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock0 /system". I read its best to mount it back to ro, but I don't know the exact command. I'd assume with ro instead of rw in the command. To bring up the applist type in "ls system/apps" which I did on the computer with adb.exe so I can copy the list. To remove an app just type "rm system/app/(nameofapp).apk". Some threads say to move the app to internal storage and also to do a back up of the app, but I haven't figured out how to do any of that yet.
I got this list from a factory restored ATT Ion -

Anyone want to help join out and make a remove list? I know there were a few listed in the deodex thread with the flash remove app script that I will try.
MadBullBunny said:
I searched a bit, but found a list for other phones that seem to have some different apps. Is there possibly a list of what apps to disable in the phone to get vanilla as possible without doing any hacking? Coming from a windows phone and this being my first android, this OS is making me crazy with all the pointless bs that's plastered all over it. I don't use yellowpages so why do I need that in my contacts?
A list of which apps do what and also what apps are ok to clear data from. I removed all my contacts accidentally once and also all my ringtones/alarms are gone from clearing data.
Or are we going to have to make a list ourselves?? There is only about 400 un-uninstallable apps in the phone we could go through.

There is a flashable zip that removes unwanted apps. Probably not exactly what YOU want removed, but its a start. There's also a deodexing zip....

Updated the first post of the thread.
That is some list you got their. I've removed about 40 apps myself. But why not just do this in titanium backup? Just do a full backup. Then do a batch uninstall. Uncheck all then just go through the list and check what you don't want. Then just hit the checkmark button at the top right. Done. Sooooo much easier. Not to mention you have a backup of everything just in case.
Edit: Then clear cache and dalvik and reboot.

It is always better to freeze the apps (if you are using titanium backup). Let the phone function for a day or two.
If there is no problem, then one can permanently delete the frozen apps.

Agreed. Also I'd like the modify the remove bloatware script in this forum for my own needs. after i've tested all apps frozen, of course.
SemcEmail.apk is not bloatware if you use anything aside from Gmail. I made the mistake of deleting that and I could no longer access my work email which uses Exchange.

Although Titanium is an essential in my toolbox I still get quite a bit of use from this good ole freebie. Works flawlessly for moving system apps back & forth(backup & restore only, does not remove).
Either regular install or manually drop in system/app folder-set permissions. eb

Apps That Shouldn't be un-installed/disabled-
Rather than have a list of apps we CAN un-install/disable we should make one that includes apps that SHOULDN'T be un-installed/disabled that would cause system instability. That would make for a short list I assume.
I'm looking to remove all att apps & google apps like google music & movies. Is it safe to remove them & what should I be looking for? I have rooted my Ion and have flashtool installed on my pc.

Look in the /system/app folder and just look for them by name or icon.

Hello
I'm making a kind of ROM Cleaner flashable zip file to easily remove bloat after flashing various roms, though it isn't customizable as ROM Cleaner is (except for editting the updater-script manually).
Though i'm not sure which apps are safe to remove and which aren't.
There are some bloat in /data/, such as Twitter and Google Plus, those are safe to remove no problem, but my issue lies within the /system/ apps.
I've gone through the system folder of my own phone (currently running ARHD 1.0) and compiled a list of apps that i'm fairly certain will cause no issues if removed, but there are some that i'm unsure of.
List of apps i've coded to remove:

Adobe Reader
Google Plus

Note: There are some apps that would be considered bloat that i have chosen not to remove, as i'm just testing this zip for myself at the moment, and i prefer to keep those apps (such as Accuweather widget, Polaris viewer, popup browser).
If any of the apps that i listed (or some that i forgot to list) are fine to remove, could someone please give me some feedback?

ChocoEUKor.apk <------------------ this is a font.
SelfTestMode.apk<----------------- Umm.. self test mode.
FotaClient.apk<---------------------- this one is for OTA
SyncmlDM.apk<--------------------- I am not sure, but I guess this has something to do with software update. I read somewhere this is for Device Management.
SyncmlDS.apk<--------------------- Synchronize page options in the settings menu.
Here is a list of installed APKs on SM-T700 and T800 which can be safely removed. Please let me know if there are other apps that can be removed without compromising the device or other software. The goal is to keep everything to minimum to increase performance and battery longevity. Many of the apps can be downloaded from Google Play. I will continue to update this list.
I would recommend using 'Root Explorer' and your device must be rooted for this to work. Make a backup of two folders, /system/app and /system/priv-app, to your sdcard just in case if you need to restore the deleted app.
/system/app

For some unknown reason, wifi's settings or password are not saved after reboot. You will need to change ro.securestorage.support=true to false in /system/build.prop for wifi to work correctly after reboot.
Are they identical with T800 ?

I debloated my Sm-T800. Free up about 300 mb.
Ram feels much better!

I haven't done any benchmark but the performance improvement and loading time is noticeable.
Mobileprint4.apk is NOT safe to delete. You cannot print without it.

It is safe if one never needs to print from their tablet.
How do I quickly delete them? Do I need to check one by one, or they're all together?

If your using root explorer you should be able to multi-select. It's the icon with the 4 squares in it I believe
Hallo,
Do I need to remove also the odex files that belongs to the .apk Files?
Thank you,
Fred
There is already a thread for debloating the Galaxy Tabs S!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2805503
Do a search or put on your glasses before you try to re-invent the wheel. LJ

I found it easier to add all the deletables to an updater-script and run after installing a TW rom. This is what I use on my Tab S to reclaim hundreds of MB and add a few essentials.
Thanks for the zip-file. Do you maybe have the link to the original thread for the zip?
Thanks mate for the list. I deleted whole bunch of apk blindly and, while I succeeded overally, I did cause some stability issues as well.

Better to go to /system/preload and delete the files there

You deleted wrong file is the reason why your tablet is locked at samsung logo. It happened to me once. You need to reboot into recovery mode and restore the rom.
I will be updating the list soon since there are more files to remove.
Suggestion: where possible, short explanation of the function of the service or .apk. Makes it easier for the not so experienced debloater to decide to remove or not.
Gr fred
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Free mobile app
Is there also a list of bloated APKs that can be deleted for LP?
