all apps and whatnot rotate, but the home screen does not. is this normal?
Unfortunately, on Touch Wiz it's normal. That's one reason why I'm now using Nova. That and a resizable grid...

It doesn't so it every time, but frequently when I'm in an app and I press the home button it takes me to the screen that is two positions to the right of the actual home screen. Any ideas why this would happen?

I suppose it might depend on your ROM if you have a custom one, and the launcher type you are using. If you are using Launcher Pro/Plus, from the home screen click menu/preferences/home screen settings...there's a button there that says DEFAULT SCREEN...then you pick the screen you want by number, again depending on how many scroll-able home screens you have.
Your "randomness" may be due in part to what home screen you were on at the time, I had that happen to me before I discovered to make said change in the preferences. So if you're two screens to the right, open an app, use it and then click home...you're returned to the home DESKTOP (if you will)...not the default home screen. When you boot and restart, etc...the screen the phone loads when it completely boots, generally is considered your "default home screen".
I have a stock Evo, rooted. no launcher is installed. regular sense. and I have no widgets or icons on the screen that it takes me to. so I know that is not where I started.

ahh, well I won't be of much help..I rooted my evo the day I got it and went with launcher pro plus the same day. I don't even remember what the stock sense is like..sorry. In my defense, however, if you root you now know you have the answer you need. ;-) Also Launcher Pro lets you customize the home button so if you're on a side pane, and press it..it loads the default home screen, press it again and it gives you the multi pane preview. Just so you know...
There's 7 screens, maybe you set up all your widgets etc on the wrong screen lol. By default pressing the home key will take you to the (1 2 3 "4" 5 6 7) forth screen.
Yes my main screen is 4. It's taking me to 6. However, I have paid more attention and it's not the home button it's the back button that is doing this. I'm using Folder Organizer to launch my apps so could that be why it think I came from screen 4?

Hello!
I wonder if there is a way to add a gesture on Sense 4.X so I can shutdown the screen in simple finger slide?
Back in N1 times,I used to use swipe down gesture(ADW launcher) linked to ''screen off''' app so the screen turned off with style!
Now with Sense launcher can I do the same?
I found an app for gestures but it doesn't accept simple gesture like swipe down/up

Hey,
The ViperX rom has a gesture option in the suite tools. You can set three-finger gestures for sliding up, down left and right.

true but you will need a screen-off app or script to be triggered by the gesture
Edit: tryed it out with "screen off and lock" app from market and works pretty well.
After configuring the app and Venom tweaks app : 3-finger swipe-up remapped to custom app (screen off), at any screen/app swipe up 3 finger and the phone will turn the screen off with a cool animation (i chose slide up to match gesture), then phone locks immediately (i dont prefer this)
Yeah I saw this but it's really weird to use the 3 fingers, I feel like a cat
I hope they will find a solution for one finger only
Edit: Sry never mind..Sense.. mist that part
Why would you want it with one finger? Then when youre reading something and your scrolling up or down your screen will go off..

Not for any games or apps but only for homescreens
There's a great app that you can define whatever gesture you like
and asign it to close the screen or even kill the using app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...29tLmdvb2Rtb29kZHJvaWQuZ2VzdHVyZWNvbnRyb2wiXQ..
try it
Seems with the stick LG launcher you can lock the phone by double tapping the screen which is very nice. Downside is you cannot put widgets on the bottom row where I usually put my sms and phone icons at. I've always used Nova Launcher but now with Nova Launcher the tap to lock does not work which means you have to lock the screen by the button on the back which is a majour pain since I always hit the volume buttons by accident. Anyone have any suggestions on this? I'm open to other launchers and also haven't rooted yet but plan to over the next couple of weeks. Thanks a bunch.
Double tap the status (notifications) bar
Install program screen off and assign double tap shortcut to it.

With LG Stock Launcher you can double tap anywhere to lock the device. When using nova just double tap the notification and it will lock.
That would work on screen that is showing.
As someone above said, install this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock
Then in Nova Launcher go to settings and select the gesture for Double Tap to launch the Screen Off app.
Also, gestures are only supported in the paid version of Nova Launcher as far as i know.
Thanks a bunch guys. This solved the problem.
Can you double-tap for screen on as well? I'm loving this feature on stock.
G3 Tweaks also lets you turn off the screen by double tapping the navigation bar (or at least the blank portions of it). It makes for a bigger target than the notification bar.
I frequently do things on my phone while it's lying on it's back on a table, rendering the lock button and volume buttons on the back useless. Is there a way to add a lock button to the home touch buttons or notification panel?
If you're using the default launcher, double tap on the screen to lock.
If you're using another launcher, such as Nova, double tap the notification bar at the top of the screen.
You can also use Tasker to create a lock shortcut action and icon.
And if you have Tasker AND Nova, you can assign a double tap gesture on the launcher to start the shortcut action.
If you're using a third party launcher that supports gestures, you can use this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock
This all is also really handy:

Double tap the notification panel without expanding it and it will lock or a blank spot on the home screens/lock screen.
I use greenify, if you swipe up it gives you the option for Google now or hibernate+lock screen, its nice because my fingers are usually right at the home buttom

+1 super simple. Works from any screen.
What gives? Could of swore samsung/google were going to fix this? Do we have to wait till android 11?
Funny the update to One UI 2.5 gave me full screen gestures running Nova Launcher. Updated, rebooted, changed gesture navigation settings. Think I had to hit the "More" option to get full gestures.
As seen
Doh stupid me, yes it's in more options, how did I miss that ??*
Although I don't see any animations when going back home, is this nova's fault?
Yeah and when you swipe up for recents and you're on your home page it has this derpy animation of the app drawer opening up. Whereas gesture navigation on devices that have launchers made for it have an animation that is smooth when you slowly slide up for recents.
