[Q] USB Storage does not Work! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
I realized that attacking the USB cable from the PC to PHONE, I go in charge of the notifications but I do not have the ability to enable the USB storage ... Assuming that I do not see the device from device manager of Windows.
If I reboot the cell and put it in recovery from device manager I see ....
To me it seems a problem of ROM ...
According to you? is some setting?
I like the MIUI 2.10.26 ROM with the original kernel!
You know you help me?
Thanks to all

there's no UMS on tuna.
either use ADB or MTP/PTP. use ADB, it's the more reliable method.

ok, thanks, I read your post, but I am unclear the process!
you can use the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Toolkit, to enable the storage problem?
If so, how can I do that?

I had a very similar problem. My phone was charging but would not connect to PC, I feared the worst after trying various ROMs/kernels and a couple of cables. What worked for me in the end was squeezing the mini USB gently with pliers plugged it back in and now it connects and charges.

The cable is new, but I've also tried another one!
And then as I said earlier in the recovery charge the cell, even if I do not I mount storage mount the partition on the PC ... I think I miss a setting that I do not know how to enable!
How can I do?
thanks again

ok, in recovery, I did not know, but from the rom, but I do not because I recharge ability mass storage?
It may be the ROM? or is it just a setting?

i'm going to make this easy. real easy.
since this has been mentioned about a billion times
THERE IS NO USB MASS STORAGE ON THE GALAXY NEXUS. THERE IS NO ACTUAL SDCARD AND YOU CANNOT USE USB MASS STORAGE, ONLY MTP IN ANY MODE ON THE DEVICE.

Why won't my phone go to USB storage mode anymore?

When I plug my phone into the computer it just charges and nothing pops up in the notification window for me to check set to storage or whatever. In development under applications USB debugging and notification when USB connected is on. I tried different USB ports on my computer and I tried rebooting the phone but still not working. What gives?
Does your computer recognize that something has been plugged in? (do you hear the usb inserted sound?) Have you tried plugging it into any other computers?

I have not tried on a different computer but when I plug it in the PDA Net thing that I installed to root pops up and says that I have plugged in a device, install pda on your phone to connect (or something along those lines)
Which rom are you using? if CM do you see the USB notification in the status bar? if your using windows, you might want to go into device manager and uninstall the USB host control and let windows scan and reinstall it.

I'm using cyanoginger. No I'm not seeing the USB notification in the status bar. Ill try uninstalling the USB host
edit: reinstalled the device driver and still no change. must be a problem with the ROM then eh?

Yeah I've been using it since it came out and had no problems with it. The USB has been working fine then yesterday I tried it out and it wasn't working.
Have you tried pulling the card and using a USB card reader on your PC? if the card cant be read with the card reader your SD card maybe going or gone bad... if it does read it, might want to backup and format it with the SD assoc format tool
Edit: is this the original SD card that came with your MT3GS? class 2 8gb Samsung... at least that's what mine was?

Oh I see... then try what the previous post says, backup your sd and format it. also it might be your usb port and/or cable's fault... even if the phone starts charging it doesnt mean the cable is making a good contact :/
it happens to me sometimes my dog went nom nom nom on my usb cable so it fails to connect properly sometimes xD
EDIT: you know what, try this and that way we can blame the rom if it works...
go into recovery and under partitions select mount usb and plug your phone to your computer, if it mounts and you see all your sdcard's contents then you just need to wipe and reflash ^_^
When I had this problem I had to get a replacement

It mounted in recovery and I was able to see the contents. Must be a problem with the ROM. I wonder how that happened? The other day my phone restarted randomly and usually it boots right up when it does that but this time it got stuck at the boot screen and I had to pull the battery and try again. Maybe that broke it somehow?

Oh no, USB mass storage is gone on Android 4.0 ICS Samsung G2 4GT

Ok i need some Major help with this Bare with me this is my first Post
Oh no, USB mass storage is gone on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Samsung Galaxy S II. We should be able to use USB storage mode when enable USB debugging in Gingerbread. But it is not working on Android 4.0.4 ICS Samsung Galaxy S2. I have 2 options ~ Media device (MTP) and Camera (PTP) modes to choose only.
1.Bring up Settings.
2.Click More… (under Wireless and network).........I dont have this option at all on my device
3.Then select USB utilities ~ Set USB cable connection mode.
4.Select Connect storage to PC then.
5.Connect USB cable from phone to PC.
6.Select Turn on USB storage.
7.That’s all.
i do understand this process but its not a option for me at all i am so stuck
Try sfhubs autoroot package, though personally I like MTP mode, I can still move and copy files to/from the phone.
Just get USB switcher from the market

None of them work for me either. I need it built into the phone without this pain in the butt to enable. I just ordered 990 S2's that I assume will have 4.0.4 installed like the 4 samples I have here; I have told Samsung that I will need to cancel my order if it is not an option on the device as it is required for my use. Granted, this is only about a thousand phones so it may not be enough for Samsung to care, but we shall see.
You have to reinstall the USB drivers to make it work.

That's only because the transfer is being made over MTP; it would not exist if the storage was presented as mass storage. The user should be able to change the way the device shows up; between MTP and mass storage. I am not going to spend the payroll to install drivers on a thousand laptops, and a regular user shouldn't have to either. I understand that sometimes phones have problems with media scanning, but that should be a user settable option and the user can make a decision.

How to disable MTP?

I know there must be multiple posts on this, but after an hour, I'm striking out. I found a .ZIP for a GSII, but that did not work.
Any ideas?

SGS3 EASY UMS (look for it here [free version] or in the play store [donate version]) mounts your phone as Universal Mass Storage rather than MTP if you want that option.

Sorry new to this. But would this have any negative effects if I used the above app to change to usb mass to download music from my computer? Mtp is slow and media monkey scans the whole phone before it syncs. Could I just keep it set to usb or would something not work after that?

HELP! Turn off storage: Galaxy Amp
I don't know if this is the right thread to put this but anyway...
I have a Samsung Galaxy Amp, a much cheaper, much watered-down version of the Galaxy Series, and I have been trying to enable default installation of apps to the external sd card. However, adb devices won't recognize my device because (I think) MTP storage is on.
I Have USB debugging on and the the device works fine over USB. However there is no way to disable storage from the phone's settings. It will automatically enter MTP storage on connection and I can't unmount it from the PC.
To be clear I want to disable ALL storage on the phone, not enable mass storage
Much of the menu options, style, setup, etc are similar to the s3. Any help would be appreciated.
*Also MTP is my best guess of why adb devices won't detect it, if it's something else insight on that will be much appreciated as well, thanks.

Sounds more like a driver issue to me. Click on "Drivers" in my sig and download and install the latest drivers. Then go to device manager, find where it shows your device, right click it and Update Drivers.
If that doesnt work, you can also try the UniversalAdbDriverSetup6.msi. Though after installing this, you may have reinstall the Samsung drivers again later in order to use MTP/UMS or Odin.
Normal operation for me, I can connect using ADB and still have access to the phones storage at the same time.
Thanks!

I know this isn't very good news...but I just ran into a similar problem. It seems to be a design flaw in the OG EVO. If it can't be seen over adb (adb devices) then in all likelihood, the USB data connectivity is borked. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Good news? It's easy to swap out the mother board on an OG Evo and they're cheap on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=htc+evo+4g+motherboard&_sacat=0 or try to find one locally on craigslist. Just make sure it has a good ESN, and like I said it's a fairly easy replacement,

You really need to READ. Use a translator if you can't.
from the thread Zepius linked you:
What is the Android SDK and do I need it?
SDK stands for "software development kit. Do you need it? If you are developing, then yes (but then you probably would be reading this thread now would you... ). If you are not developing, then no, you do NOT need to install it. It is just a waste of space. The only files you need (to interface with your PC) that comes from the SDK are the fastboot and adb files, and they can be found here for Windows, Linux, and MacOS.
