hey people,
i was just wondering... i like my cm7 rom, but i do get bored quickly of the desktop and the same old routes to things.. i always like to change around when i like.
any ideas? screenshots or links will help
thanks a bunch for any help!!!
I use launcherpro, which I paid for a long time ago. I wish touchwiz wasn't exclusive to samsung, because I really starting liking it on my vibrant before I got my G2.
I do NOT like zeam or adwlauncher that comes with CM7. I end up installing lancherpro and use titanium backup to uninstall adwlauncher.
One good thing with LauncherPro does that any other launcher doesn't is the unread gmail count on the home screen.
So, if I had my pick, I would pick TouchWiz, but since I can't use it for my G2, then I'm stuck with my second choice 'LauncherPro'

Using LauncherPro now but looking into that Launcher 7, looks interesting, highly customizable.
LauncherPro
cheers for all your replies i will thank you all !!
okay well im gonna do a nandroid backup, install launcher pro and use titanium to uninstall adw... you gotta love titanium backup!!!
then if i dont like it i can always revert back using clock work mod!
i may also try that launcher 7, but ill hang fire and read some reviews
cheers everyone!!
Touchwiz launcher has been ripped from galaxy s phones and works very good on my g2. I really didn't like it much though, so I use adw ex or gingerbread launcher2.apk from nexus s roms. Those 2 are super smooth.
Adw that comes with CM is slower than the others, but if you download adw notifier (free on market), you can get the unread popup on the icon. LP is cool, but I find ex and gingerbread launchers more.

How about the Stock Gingerbread Launcher from the Nexus Phones?
cheers guys ive thanked you all, i have gone with the launcher pro, but im gonna do a nandroid backup and try all of them
thanks!!
defiantly try the stock luncher if you are any type of purist. yea it removers theme chooser but just open the cm7 zip file and you can extract the apk files out if you want them. i really dont care. the only thing i miss from adw is the swipe anywhere on the screen options. and the hide status bar. but i think that launcher is the best so its a small price to pay. i also miss custom icons. but once again. speed and stability is more important to me.
I paid for LauncherPro a while ago, but GO Launcher is slowly starting to win me over.

For me, ADW EX is the way to go, hands down. It's worth the $3.
I personally do not like all of the things that come with EX, I have a themed version of the Gingerbread Launcher. It's themed for the guy's theme who is above me =p
When im on cm7 I use ADW with the DroidX theme. Looks great!

Adw ex FTW. also go Laucher is pretty sweet, but adw is flawless with performance

Id say ADWex.. but if your lookin for somethin completely different.. then launcher7.. its smooth, nice, and customer tiles are easy to make. its been what I've been stuck on lately..

I personally love GO Launcher. It is sort of a cross between ADW EX and Launcher Pro, with some new and different things as well. It's also extremely stable, which is something I can't say about Launcher Pro (at least that was the case last year when I used it heavily).
Try android seven pro if u are into windows... some may not like the thought of windows on a linux device but its good for something different. I bounce between adw ex launcher7 and android seven because I get bored easily
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I keep reading through all the different ROM threads and hardly anyone talks about ADW? Is there something I should know, that I don't? I don't want to have to pay for a launcher, any advice is welcome.

What you mean? Cm7 ships with adw (be it a modified version). And everyone has their choice...some people switch launchers on a weekly basis

For drop dead stability I always go with go launcher (on my gf's epic) but I have paid for launcher pro plus and can't live without the built in themeable twitter, gmail, and facebook widgets butto each his own. I consider adw a laggy ram hog
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Most people do not want to pay for something like a launcher when there are so many free ones like Zeam. I got ADW for my 2 phones. My girl uses it exclusively but I use it just to verify operation with new Bonsai builds before release.
I have been using Zeam since April but I have been using ADW EX a lot more lately. The themes and icons are great and I love being able to swipe to hide my status bar and dock
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I use adw ex. Its fairly stable I don't have problems often..
Cd's or tapes?
I forgot what but something hides and out was a pain in the ass because somehow I got it to hide apk the time
It got to the point where I had to have a shortcut for the un hide button on my beautiful bare home screens and also I'm my opinion tw4.5 is better

I use ADW. I have it carefully configured; I LOVE it. I use the FOSS market version. If you want my configs to try I can post them.
I got ADW as the base launcher on a ROM I was using and fell in love with it. I used to be all about Launcher Pro but this works out so much better. None of the LP restarts when memory runs low and ADW runs so smoothly.
Hi people,
I'm looking for suggestions for a launcher that is good for both BATTERY LIFE and CUSTOMIZATION.
I've been using GO LAUNCHER EX for a long time now and found it really good, but there seems to be LOADS of you out there that use NOVA instead and i was wondering why this was... would you say Nova is better for battery life and customization over Go Launcher??
Thanks in advance...
ss launcher

I use NOVA because it is a tweaked version of the stock Jelly Bean launcher. Wich is super smooth and has lot's of options to costumise it.

I realised it was probably better to have the question in "Themes & Apps" rather than "Q&A's" so added it to this one. Then couldnt delete it from Q&A :/
My Bad!!
+1 to Nova, absolutely love it.
Nova

I recommend Shake(free) and TSF(paid). They aren't the lightest nor the fastest, but they have features that make your S3 impressive without too much customization effort.
Shake has its own Shake market for downloading themes, icons and their own live wallpapers. Most of them are very cute (and sexy ). It is a Korea app, but you don't need to know Korean to use the launcher and Shake market. (Don't confuse it with other "Shake Launcher". I provide the link to this app below so that you won't get it wrong)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.minigate.app.home
TSF is a launcher with rich features, with many impressive themes, widget, transition and desktop's options. I particularly love that rotatable icons. The built-in sliderbar can partially replace Button Savior (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smart.swkey), without needing to root.
I cannot say if these features worths the money you spend, though.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tsf.shell
I have tried all of the big ones and have found that NOVA is the best. I'm not sure how it is with JB but if you have ICE then it's butter
TW Launcher? hahaha :highfive:
Apex is the momma for all launcher's
I recently did a test on Samsung's Jelly Bean.
Smoothest of the ics/jb launcher bunch(nova apex and holo) is Holo HD then Apex then Nova. But still not perfect. Holo which is the smoothest of the three occasionally hitches. especially in widgets if you go really fast. other than that it is a very good launcher
Smoothest of all launchers to my surprise is ADW EX ( with 4d drawer transparent) , looks great also, reminds me of gb but a lot smoother. Smooth as samsung stock launcher.
I didnt even try go launcher..
I used to use Go Launcher Pro. A lot of features but apex is a lot faster.
I use nova and i find it smooth, fast with many many customization, i can't make without now !

ADW or TSF
Use ADWLauncher EX or TSF Shell 1.7.5
(both are paid but you can get them for free from the blackmart )
Don't confuse ADWLauncher EX with ADW.Launcher
TSF Shell is a bit heavy but is surely the best launcher for s3. I am using it since a month and I love it more everyday!
ADW:
play.google*com/store/apps/details?id=org.adwfreak.launcher
TSF:
play.google*com/store/apps/details?id=com.tsf.shell&feature=search_result
can't post any outside link (coz i am new user). so, remove the * and put a dot (.)

Seems like it has been updated (after a VERY long time) with some pretty nice features. He has updated both versions the free and the paid ex version. I use to use ADW ex and just installed the new ADW ex and let me say this launcher is FAST and SMOOTH. I would say it's close to rivaling the TW launcher in transition smoothness. I have noticed a few little quirks but I'm sure he will iron out the little glitches in it soon
The update is terrible. I had my phone looking sexy but the update screwed it the hell up. Not happy.
I like it. Had adw launcher ex purchased when i had my first androidbphone.

I can't see many people moving (back) to this now that the dev has a history of abandoning development for a long period, who's to say it won't happen again.
I used this on my HTC Desire for over a year, and used to love it, but Nova and Apex are the future.

The features are fantastic... but...
I am running 4.1.2 CM10 on my phone and it seems to lag quite a lot on drawer opening and closing... tried to email Dev but my market force closes when I try (not adw problem) I found ADW Ex to lag and the free one to be very smooth.
Anyone else having this issue?
Edit: just tried it again and much better no idea why... but the drawer is still laggy for some reason.

ADW the return
I love this, cannot describe just how fresh and original this feels, I'm running AOKP Milestone 1 on my i9300 and it's stunning ! This actually makes it feel / seem like I'm using a different slicker OS.
I'm ditching apex as of now, have been a droid user for four years and have used most of the mainstream launchers but ADW is deliciously delightful, download it and tinker with it but don't let the memories of the old ADW dissuade you, I can't rate this highly enough.

I dont like the white popup menu, other than that its a good update.
Excellent launcher. Spend time getting to play with the features. It actually has everything the other launchers have plus more. The only thing... i agree, the white pop up is less than best. Black transparent pop up would make this complete.

I liked the free Version. Then i moved to the paid ADW ex Version. The problem on the ex Version is that when i choose it as Standard Launcher and reboot then i am asked again which Launcher i want as Standard Launcher. I was sending an email with the reply it is a JB Problem. I dont believe it because the free Version has no problem with this.
It is really sad but like that i dont like to use it. I hope the problem will be solved soon.
i know, i know, this has probably been asked a million times, but i'm directing this to S3 users here in our little corner of the world, please don't hate
i've been using the holo launcher hd pro now for some time and i truly love the way it works. its smooth, elegant, doesnt get in the way, and best off all, gives me an AOSP look and feel when running a non-AOSP rom. i also use the holo locker as well. i use this launcher on both my S3 and my Xoom tablet
it seems to me that the holo launcher doesnt get enough respect. i see many a custom rom that includes nova or apex, but not holo (or even adw or go launchers for that matter).
when i search for "launcher" on the play store the first five results are in order GO, ADW, Nova, Apex, and Launcher 7, with Nova Prime and Apex Pro 6th and 7th.
Holo is on the first page of results, but is second from the bottom. hardly respectable if you ask me. there are themes that show up higher in that search
anyway, so lets keep it civil and not bash on each others choice of launcher. i just want to get a feel for how popular these launchers are on the S3 or do you prefer the stock TouchWiz interface?
let your voice be heard and vote above!

why do you think that? launchers are apps.
My favorite one is the one that gets launched when i press the home button

I use the stock TouchWiz one, but when I root it I use LGUI3.0 It's so much better, and gives you alot more customization options than TouchWiz. I think TouchWiz is so bland...
I was surprised to see that the default launcher with CM10 doesn't have a back-up function. I switched back to ADW because I was familiar with it from CM7. I also missed the infinite scroll feature that's available in ADW (and some of the others).

have you tried holo launcher at all? i just did a test and it does use about 59mg of ram where as apex shows as cached and ready when you need it, so from that, it seems that apex is much lighter on resources, but i still really love holo, you should try it
