New Camera/Gallery 4.2 CWM - Epic 4G Apps

Hi, This is my first Thread on xda, so please be easy on me...
I found and tried this new Camera/Gallery for the Nexus 4 on the Epic4G
I can confirm that it's fully working with the latest CM10 Nightly Nov 1st.
The gallery feels and looks much faster and better than the older one
and the camera looks cooler and it's feels faster at taking pictures too.
Update: The new Photosynth shooting mode Doesn't work on our phone because it lacks gyroscope sensor [Thanks @nvertigo for pointing this out]
Flashable CWM
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/1...gallery-app-with-new-ui-editing-photo-sphere/
if flashing didn't work, you might need then to do it manually as in this post
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...220830-jelly-bean-4-2-camera.html#post2279243
*You need at minimum ~12.2 MB of empty space before flashing of the actual system rom!
I Uninstalled the stock launcher and replaced it with another launcher from the market to solve this problem.
*To force the new Camera to work with hardware button, you might need to disable/freeze the older gallery after selecting the new Camera/Gallery as a default app.
So again here are the steps for the easy way to install the new camera:-
1- Install Third party Launcher of Your Choice
2- Uninstall the stock launcher (Trebuchet)
3- Flash the New Camera with CWM or TWRP (camera42_patched_v2 CWM Flashable.zip)
4- Open Gallery and click on the Camera icon, and then you will have a choice to select your default gallery/camera (select com.google. Gallery)
5- (Optional) To force the new Camera to become the default one, go to settings/apps/all and select Gallery with the version 1.1.40000 and disable it or delete it, don't disable the new gallery that has the version of 1.1.40001.
6- That's It, Well Done!.

Does photosphere work in Nghtly 11-01? I am running 10-29 and it doesnt work.

ohh now how in THE craaap do we uuse photosphere? lol!
playstore and swypish google keyboard here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1964726

I flashed this in CWM on my Epic 4G running AOKP (ICS 4.0.4) Milestone 6, stock kernel and it didn't seem to work. The stock camera app would load instead. Then I remembered to re-flash the ZIP and this time I did the 3x Wipe Cache and 3x Wipe Dalvik.
I rebooted and hooray, both the gallery and new camera are working without any FC's so far. Plus, I deleted the APK for the stock camera app and the new one loads up just fine with the hardware camera button.
You guys really should check out the "time lapse" video recording feature. It's pretty slick!

This didn't work for me until i updated to 11/01 nightly CM10. I managed to get the app running but it FCs when i try photosphere. Any advice?

youre probably missing the photosphere lib in system/lib
from not enough space in the /system partition

Thanks, that solved the problem.
It's not FCing anymore but I'm getting the error that a lot of people seem to be getting in the android police link. photosphere is extremely slow almost completely immobile after the first shot is taken, properly moving to the blue dot is impossible, and going left and right is impossible. is photosphere working perfectly for you guys?

No, I have the same problem here too

According to reddit, this happens because our phones don't have a gyroscope. I guess this is a brick wall.

I had the same issue, but I got it to work by downloading both .zips, extracting both, then I deleted the live wallpapers and gallery2.apk in /system/app and copied over the files from the manual .zip to /system/lib then I copied the new gallery/camera from the flashable zip to /system/app, set permissions for all the files, rebooted and there it was.

I went a head to test the flashable camera again and wiped Data/Cache/Dalvik/System and flashed the latest nightly cm10 Nov 09 rom
The problem is Cm10 System partition is full, look at the first picture attached and you will notice Titanium backup reporting that system ROM has only 81.9 KB of Free space!. So if you tried to flash the new camera with CWM it will NOT be actually installed even though the cwm manager says the flashing was successful.
To solve this problem, you need to free 12.4 MB from your system partition. so if you install another launcher from the market like Go launcher or Lightning Launcher etc... and uninstall your stock launcher (Trebuchet) from your system rom you will have the required 12.4 mb for the new Camera flashing (like in the attached picture 2).
Gallery)
5- (Optional) To force the new Camera to become the default one, go to settings/apps/all and select Gallery with the version 1.1.40000 and disable it or delete it, don't disable the new camera that has the version of 1.1.40001.

JB camera app??

Ok I don't know if its just me and when I download the ROMS that have been made compiled for JB but in both I have flashed I still have no camera app. Is it not available yet because they change the camera app or am I blind? I've flashed Team Inferno's ROM and Bixie's ROM.

I think you might be blind... lol jk. But no seriously. I've never not had the camera app in any of the JB roms I've flashed (although I'm CDMA). It's still called "Camera..." Perhaps the gapps weren't packaged correctly with the rom so it doesn't show up? Have you looked in /system/apps to see if Camera.apk is there?

Lol wouldn't put it passed me for being blind x) I did check to see if the apk was in the system, its not. BTW I'm on the GSM GNex. Also used the android APK Swapper to double check and it's not there.

Wow. Very interesting. When I went into /system/app Camera.apk wasn't there, but I had the Camera application... I went to drag the Camera app into "app info" and it comes up with Gallery version 1.1.4000, so obviously the Camera application is grouped or side-loaded with the Gallery application. Perhaps try reinstalling Gallery?
You are correct. Normally I remove the gallery apk from ROMs since I prefer Quickpic. Doing this on a Jelly Bean ROM also removes the camera.

Camera fix for CyanogenMod-7-20120920-NIGHTLY-gio

View ROM thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1899615
For me it's a great ROM, it's fast and stable. THANK YOU marcin1147!!!
But it has one nasty bug that seems to have not been fixed in a long time: Captured pictures and videos are rotated.
What i did is take an older camera.apk (from phiexz's CM 7.2 20120421- Nightly; Thank you phiexz!!!) and replace the original one.
Download here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/p666az1ed9lpfo2/Camera.apk
Copy the downloaded camera.apk to your SDcard.
I used Link2sd to remove the original camera app.
Then with file manager navigate to SD card and install downloaded camera.apk
Use link2sd to make system app (so not to uninstall by mistake).
Reboot.
Enjoy!
You can also replace the camera.apk in the zip before installing the rom.
I posted here because i can't yet post in dev section. If someone wants they can move this to ROM thread...

Yes it does, I've tested all day, seems to be ok, also tried several different camera settings (macro, night mode, color effects etc) and it works great.

This fix has only one downside... Has the bug of ignoring turning off shutter sound. Is there any chance there will be another release with none of the two bugs? I mean rotation and shutter sound bugs.

Actually for me it's already bugfree .. i installed camera patch and that the FM radio is not working i don't care (never use it ) haha but it will be cool if we have official .. just that feeling xD

I agree that this build is pretty cool. For me FM radio is not a issue, I do not use it. After replacing launcher with stock one and some personal tweaks it is by far best rom I ever used on GIO. So if this little bug with camera is fixed, I will be fully satisfied.

[req]HDR Camera APK From Cyanogenmod

Does anyone have this? Can it be ripped?
You can't just rip the .apk and put it in, you'll need the corresponding libs.
Would this be in the gapps or Rom itself?

The ROM, it's a CM feature after all, it'll only work with CM's Gallery2.apk I suppose.
Plenty of hdr apps, way easier..

Here's my 1st shot at it. Usual disclaimer applies, if this nukes your phone, you are on your own!
https://www.box.com/s/t05n84s17mv0qmj6pfke
I flashed this on JBSourcery, and i had an HDR option, as well as extended options from original camera. It looks like you lose photosphere tho. Which I use more of. I haven't booted CM 10.1 before so I don't know what it looks like.
Happy Flashing
I just tried CM 10.1 latest nightly's Gallery2.apk, I knew it won't work, but just in case I tried it!
result: "I don't remember... has stopped"
So it won't work!
Using CM's camera lib files will cause "boot loop".
Btw. because JB 4.2.2 CM10.1 is new CM devs have to fix HDR things on the camera so there is no sense to try port it to stock ROMs yet..
well, the zip i posted booted for me on JBSourcery 4.5.6. it has the gallery2.apk + camera libs. If it's not booting, then I will pull it down.

Not only apk and libs but the framework itself needs to be modded, because of powerbutton shutter, if you rom already supports it its a win, if not
it wont work... for example aospa wont work with it, unless someone kangs it into the rom

AOSP Front Facing Camera

Hi, all. So, I was wondering if there are any fixes for the front facing camera bug for third party apps when using AOSP ROMs. When I use front facing camera in third party apps, causes force reboot. I hear this is a common thing with AOSP ROMs, and there has got to be another thread on this (which I've yet to find that offers any real answers). Not sure if this problem affects Hangouts yet, but I'm pretty sure it would have the same problem.
Do a google search for note 2 camera4.3 apk. you'll have to uninstall your existing gallery and then flash the apk file . then reboot into recovery and fix permissions. I use this on my d2att and camera works great.. focal and photosphere.
Thanks!

Thanks for the advice! I'll give that a try. I couldn't figure out how to fix permissions in CWM, though. I thought it was supposed to in "Advanced", but I couldn't find it.

OK. Apparently, the only way to fix permissions for CWM is in the ROM manager app, which I already have. This lets you pick and choose which apps you want to fix permissions for. I'll look into it further and give it a try. If I have to use TWRP, then so be it. Just not really familiar with it. Thanks for all the help, though. I'll post if it works.
Installed, but same problem.
So... first I'd like to say Photosphere is AWESOME! However, I still have the same problem with the front facing camera. If it works at all, it FC when picture is snapped. I think I need to figure out how to set the flashed camera a default or something. I don't know.

Yeah... I understand this is a pretty common problem with CM 10 and AOSP roms. I gotta wonder if there is a solid solution to this or if I just did something wrong. I replaced the stock camera/gallery with the Note 2 camera 4.3, but it still does the same thing. Tried wiping dalvik cache and fix permissions, but nothing seems to have worked. Now running Dandroid cyangenwiz ROM and that works fine, it just isn't smooth and nice like AOSP. Love some of the features, but miss the buttery smoothness of CM 10.2. You said that you haven't had any problems with front facing camera?

Data not working with CM 11

Hey Guys, unfortunately I can't post on the CM board as I don't have enough posts yet, but I'm having an issue with data not working with the CM 11 Villumanti build. As suggested by many, I flashed an ICS stock rom, FL24, and updated the PRL and Profile and made sure data was working. I then flashed blasphemy and finally CM11. I'm now lost as to what to do next.

Try this updated Camera: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7x51j0ig37d39xx/Camera2.apk
Rename the current camera app to "camera2.apk.bak" (no quotes) in /system/app
Push the new camera app to /system/app via a root file manager (I recommend Root Browser)
Tap and hold the app, scroll down to permissions, tap on permissions and set permissions to 0644 (rw-r--r--)
