ARC S (LT18i) comes with USB OTG support but when I plug an USB memory stick it recognizes it but says it's not supported.
From what I read it only works with LiveDock which is, by my opinion, not good at all, not even a real dock since you have to plug a cable in phone.
so is there a simple possibility to make USB work without LiveDock?
by simple I meen without flashing a new kernel
Thank you

In short, you need:
Q5 Memory Manager: http://android.gval.biz/download/Q5_USB_Memory_Manager.apk
Module Loader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1228605
usb-storage module: http://doomlord.sylvester20007.com/xperia_2011/usb_otg/v01/usb-storage.ko
You can then connect and mount USB flash drives (formatted FAT32) with a suitable USB-OTG cable.
Hi
a cheap wireless keyboard/mouse bundle works perfect with a cheap otg cable.
usb hub too.
Managed to use usb key with XTCrefugee explanations.
But, could we charge the battery, at the same time using usb devices?
arc S
otg with unsupported USB
Getting the same error message, I have Astro file manage.
Unsure how to mount USB drive.
Get this app, it does the job nicey http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389653
PM me if you would like a copy...to test out
Thanks for responding, but I see the linked app requires rooting etc. There appears q5 but that's not on plaststore. Would upgrading to ICS be solution or a problem. What would you suggest?
When I had ICS installed still need to use some app to mount USB stick ... I have to say that Nokia N8 and other new Symbian devices have better support fot USB OTG ...
Today I first used an OTG adapter, after last week OTA update, but to my surprise it no longer works.
I've tried with a couple of different adpaters, with mouse and USB drive that previously worked, but neither one works now.
Can anyone confirm? I'm on stock 2.20.40.58, bootloader locked, no root.
EDIT: Now it seems that my phone isn't even recognized in my PC ( I'm at work at the moment, and I used a couple of generics microUSB cables, with the same results ), only charging works fine. Did something broke? Or it is just me
I'm on the same firmware version and I can confirm that USB OTG works. Also the phone and external memory card are detected when a USB cable is plugged. in(tried 2-3 generic cables as well as the ASUS cable). You may want to update your USB drivers for the PC to see if the phone gets recognised.

Thank you, now I'll check it more thoroughly when I get home.
I've managed to replace the USB board, and now OTG USB is working back, the phone is recognized on PC, but says "Device descriptor request failed" (I've tried with W10 on two different PCs, same results). A thread in ZenTalk mentions the issue in a Zenfone 5, but did all with no resukts
I have a replacement cable.
I tried plugging in my device in my laptop using USB 3.0 port but it only charges my phone, it doesn't detect the MTP to transfer files. But when I tried plugging it in in the USB.. 2..0 port, MTP works.
My question is, is this because of the cable? Or is the A5 not supported by USB 3.0?

Mine works on a USB 3.0 port.
USB 3.0 should be backwards compatible to USB 2.0, so I think it's the cable. Maybe you could try again on a different pc? Just to be sure.
If you're using Windows check your device manager to see what it says, maybe a specific usb driver is needed?
i have same problem.
many time ago my phone (A5 2017) recognize with my laptop but after some update its not recognize in laptop but detect in office PC.
i do some work like change windows , reinstall add driver, use linux but not work in laptop. its now just work with one PC in office and other PCs not work. (

Hi , my Poco F3 arrived today and i was very hyped to use it but i've come into a problem.
Neither my win10 laptop or my F3 can identify each other when i connect them via USB, i can't even find it on the device manager, on my sister's laptop it connects and identifies weirdly enough but that's an older laptop is really slow and unreliable for anything specially since its not mine.
My laptop is a new one 2020 model and it connects well to any other device ...
I've tried replugging 100 times and i've made sure USB debbuging was toggled on my poco, also made sure the usb config was on file transfer, i've tried installing various ADB drivers too but it didn't help.
Can anyone please help me out with this , the poco f3 is my first android device and i really wanted to put other roms and use the ADB fastboot tools to debloat it but without connecting it with my laptop its gonna be very hard ...
Use official USB cable. Don't use a USB hub. Connect directly to the laptop. Change a USB port.
Plug your phone USB cable to laptop, switch file transfer mode on phone drop down menu, then reboot your laptop without disconnecting your phone from laptop.
Right click on the windows button on the task bar. Click on device manager. Does any device appear on their when the F3 is plugged in. Also as said above directly connect to a PC usb port rather than through a hub (maybe use a Usb c to usb c cable if your laptop only has usb c ports)
Hello there,
I've tried converting Chinese to Global firmware Vivo X80 pro (unlocked bootloader and rooted) and ends up with completely dead bricked after flashing all files on fastboot it's rebooted on a black screen and never went on again!
Can't boot into fastboot mode neither recovery but its can connect to pc via USB-C which is USB-3.1 only! My pc recognize it as "USB root hub" so what does that mean? Please if there is any solution to consider?
Best regards
The function of the USB root hub
The USB root hub sits directly on the mainboard of a PC and consists of a control chip that controls the USB ports on the mainboard.
Depending on the design of the mainboard, there can be several USB root hubs. There are several USB ports on each mainboard, which are either accessible at the back of the computer or are internal to the PC on the mainboard as plug-in connections. These internal connections are usually led via a corresponding cable to the USB ports, which are accessible from the front of the PC case.
The USB root hub(s) are responsible for controlling all USB ports present on the PC. A maximum of 127 USB devices can be connected and managed per USB root hub. In order to be able to connect so many devices to the PC, external USB hubs are usually used, which work more or less as distributors.
