I fllashed CM10 M2 on my S3 and got the error that the external SD card is damaged. After reading some threads here I found that CM doesn't handle the exFAT format so I restored stock image from backup expecting to be able to access files on the external card. However, I'm still getting the bad SD card error. I found this thread that mentions the same issue that I'm having but the solution proposed there didn't work for me. I'm using CWM 6.0.1.2 and when I connect through ADB when in recovery, I don't see the contents of the external card. Mounting sdcard from CWM mounts /sdcard but that is the internal storage which is not what I want. I also tried connecting the card to my laptop running XP using a micro-SD card reader and running chkdsk but that reported the disk as a RAW partition. Any ideas on what else I can do to copy files off of the card?
Plug it into the computer and run a recovery software. There's tons of free ones.
Exfat should be readable by cm10. I would try in a Linux os to retrieve your data. Or the recovery method as mentioned above.

I have the same problem how can i backup my files ftrom ex_sd befor do format

You'll have to copy to the computer. Use an adaper to plug into a usb port. Or if you can see the files on your phone copy to computer via usb cable or wireless file utility.
If I'm not mistaken, exFat is only supported in our stock kernels which is why you can't read it in cm or aokp. I've also had problems seeing it in cwm and twrp recoveries, but I can't remember if I had a stock kernel at the time.

I was able to recover the files using the Photorec recovery tool from CGSecurity. Worked like a charm, restored all my pics and music And it's free as well!

How are you seeing the files from CWM? Do you connect through ADB to browse the files?

Try sgs3 easy ums app. I think its on the market but you can search for it here in xda as well.
Or as I said before you can try a wireless transfer utility from the market.
Otherwise take the sdcard out if the phone and plug it directly into your computer via an adapter.

What rom? Have you tried a battery pull? Have you tried putting the card into a card reader on a computer?
Stupid question here from my part but do you have the phone hooked via usb to a computer while you are doing this?
No I haven't tried hooking the sdcard up to computer yet . And I'm running mikfroyo 4.4

Mount the SD card in your PC and run chkdsk. Worked for me a couple of times. If you're seeing corruption, you may have a bad card. I had a Wintec 32GB card that I returned because it kept corrupting.

Ok well try it.
I have a rooted LG Nitro HD. I downloaded the Domination HD Rom. However, when in clockworkmod recovery, no .zip files found. Anyone else have this happen? I rooted using superoneclick.

Yeah, I had this happen with the CWM flashed from Rom Manager. I ended up going back to bytecode64's.

Copy your SD card to your computer (all the files), reformat the SD card in Windows, and then copy your files back on it. Then CWM Touch will see the files.
Thank you, kernelpan1c. Worked perfectly. My next step is to check out your rom. Looks pretty sweet.

I haven't done it with card in the phone. Go get a microSD adapter and format with Windows (considering you have a card reader).

Enable usb mass storage on your phone and windows should let you format it or boot in cwm, go to mount and storage, select mount sd card and then format sd card.

I have the same issue mounts with is loaded but not in recovery looked for drivers but can't find them online
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Xparent ICS Blue Tapatalk 2
Just taking a stab at it, if it isnt too much trouble, id backup the entire sd on a pc, format it on windows, format it on your phone, restore important files back, and try again, if it still doesnt mount, sounds like a bad flash, or at least a bad flash on recovery which by then you could just flash a kernel, or clean install cm9 altogether.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
You can use adb in recovery... Google the command to mount the SD card manually. Then adb push whatever file you want to the SD card.
I had to do this today with my gnex except I mounted /data and push to /data/media. But anyways yeah.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
But if CWM does not see the card then he can't flash anything. I am sure he can put files on the card. I would go with shiny's thoughts that it is a broken recovery.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
For some reason adb doesn't work for me,either adb reboot recovery error device not find should I keep looking for drivers online ?

Thanks

When you attach it you're going to see your external sd card. If you browse inside it you should see a folder called "external_sd" or something like it, inside it you should get access to your internal storage.
I may be wrong though. Try it and let me know if it works.

Try changing usb connection to mtp. Im able to see internal and external sd card when connecting to pc, but the prob is, i cant copy files from pc to phone and vice versa. When connecting to PC using mass storage im able to see external sd but no internal sd,but i can copy files from pc to phone and vice versa. So my advice, if you want to see your internal using usb nass storage, try removing your external sd and connect phone to pc again and see if youre able to see your internal. I think this is known bug in cm9 since external card is mounted as emmc and not as external_sd anymore.

If you need to transfer files urgently into your internal memory, my suggestion is that you transfer the file to your external memory, then you use your phone to transfer files internally from Ext.sd to Int.sd

If your phone is rooted, you can use Link2SD. You will first have to split your MICROSD into 2 partitions and format the 2nd partition as ext2.
There are *lots* of tutorials on this; use your favorite search engine to find one.
Alternatively, use a custom ROM that supports external/internal SD swap, and reinstall everything.

I would say that this is problem with pc. What system are you using? Do you have "show hidden files" option on (just google it for your system if you don't know how to turn it on)? Is there "." at the begining of the file like ".xxxx.yyy"?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Hmm. It seems that the only files that can be viewed on the external SD card on PC is the files I put on their from the PC. The files I downloaded on my phone are not being shown. Hidden files are shown on windows and it still cannot see them. The files are just zips apks and images, I don't understand why they are not showing up. tried on another computer, same result. Hmm.

I don't own this phone. But I had the same problem with the s2. T989. All I did was power off the phone and took the SD card off let it sit for awhile then put it back in and the PC started showing everything again....hope this helps. I'm running slim bean.

Unmount and remount sdcard in the storage settings. The PC drivers are really pretty crappy. I've seen it happen quite frequently.
