That's right, confirmed yesterday with a release date of November 13th, the Google Nexus 4 will be a 4.75" Quad Core Snapdragon S4 device marketed by LG.
I know I and many in the HTC Community were looking forward to the supposed HTC Branded Google Nexus 5 (ie HTC Incredible DLX).
The LG branded Google Nexus 4 will not feature 4G LTE capabilities and looks like it won't feature 4G at all. It will offer Android 4.2, 2GB RAM, wireless charging and other features. More can be found here

Pretty sure the LGNexus 4 also only comes in 8gb and 16 gb models... with no sd card. That right there did kind of turn me off of it. One reason I'm not a big Apple fan...
Here's the Google Play store page for it Nexus 4
I was looking forward to the Nexus 4. I was so sad when I found out there was no 4G and it would not be on Verizon. Haven't had a Nexus device yet. Guess now I'm for HTC DNA or whatever they decide to call it...
The simple fact is is that Verizon does not support timely updates or unlocked devices. Its also common knowledge that LTE is a huge battery hog. My brother has T-Mobile HSPA+ 42 and has no problems streaming Netflix, which is what most people complain about. Besides, LTE is only available in 8 countries worldwide and even in those countries its only available in certain areas.
Can someone please fix the ****ing thread title?
Loses

Thinking of unlocking a Verizon Wireless LTE phone for use on AT&T's network, or vice versa? Think again. Verizon Wireless confirmed today that its LTE phones will not "be compatible on other LTE networks in the U.S." because "the phones will be on different frequencies," according to Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney.

Can you guys get to the Phone Info screen with the radio menu's? I heard they were taking that out of Sense 4.0, but if not this might be worth looking into. Rezound dev's have it working on GSM now with S-Off running MIUI, If this phone has "hidden" CDMA radios we could have a lot of cross platform dev's without them all having the same phones.

^Mine doesn't! It's been solid all around since day 1. :good:
At this point in time the gsm Nexus is one of the best deals around. I've been kicking myself for a while now for going with verizon and not prepaid. $350 for the phone and $50 or less a month for service is crazy cheap compared to Verizon or any other postpaid.
The way google did everything, I suspect they planned on this phone hitting its stride 6-8 months after it's release. When the unsubsidized price dropped to reasonable levels, BAM they put it up for sale themselves and put Jellybean on it making the Nexus a superphone that is semi affordable.
I don't get plagued by all these radio issues people talk about.
Having a GSM Nexus isn't possible for me so I'm happy with my CDMA Nexus and I don't think any less or more of the GSM variant.

I have a VZW Galaxy Nexus and I agree with you guys even though I have no rational proof to support my claim.
Please indulge my anecdotal justification instead:
It feels like the GSM versions are better supported, maybe not in the dev community (it still seems like all of the development who provide updates also have GSM versions and I'm very curious to know if any of them use the VZW version as their main phone.) That may or may not be the case but CDMA support from manufacturers seems to be an afterthought at times. VZW doesn't even get some of the nicer phones sometimes. They really came through with getting us the original Droid though. That was a great phone. I haven't had a phone yet that I've liked as much as I liked the Droid when it was new.
I still have to point out that where I live my VZW Nexus still gets me more reliable service (even with its assinine bounces between 3g/LTE in my office) than anyone using a phone on any other carrier. Having a great flashy phone with the latest updates does little good if you can't get online. Sure my coworker gets 40MB/s up and down when he's at the north side of our building but he has to tether to me if he wants to get online where we spend most of the day.
If I spent a lot of time where I could get reliable GSM connections at the price I'm paying VZW with my discount, I'd switch in a heartbeat.

My wife has it. It's kind of a wash, IMO. If I were buying a new one, I'd pick it over mine - I do like it better overall. But not something I would re-purchase over my E4GT at this point.
The hardware on the two phone are about equal with each excelling in different areas. The nexus is much better simply because Google will make sure you get updates for a couple generations. It is cdma so it will face the same issues Verizon's nexus does, but it will still be better off than the epic touch. Depends on how much your uncle is asking for it.

It is supported by Google as all nexus phones are. It is just not part of aosp, meaning you can't flash aosp and have everything work. It has to do with proprietary drivers related to cdma that Google can't open source. Verizon worked with Google to find some type of loophole that allowed them to open source it. But they are both supported by Google, they both will receive long term Google support, they both will get updated slightly after their gsm counterparts. They both will be updated much longer than the epic touch.

Im switching services to sprint and looking to either get the nexus or the s3. All hardware specs aside which would most likely be the better choice..? From what I read it looks like the s3 is stuck in 3g while lte rolls out for sprint. Im leaning towards the nexus as its a pure android phone with no bloat on top of it. Would it be a smart choice to go with the gnex or get the s3 and wait for the 4g lte?

"All hardware specs aside" makes it very simple. Galaxy Nexus hands down. But please get the GSM version to get the full benefit and all of the freedom from contracts, carrier restrictions, and official software delays.
If your not getting GSM nexus may as well get the better hardware. S3 would be my recommendation, though I'll personally stick with my GSM nexus.

Dont be lured by the unlimited marketing engine from Sprint. Their network is horrible. 3g is more like 2g at best and 4g is hit or miss. I imagine given their track record, LTE will be the same. Unlocked GNEX on T-mobile is the way to go! Thats what I did and couldnt be happier.

Bad 3G? It really all depends on location. Really if your not in an area where LTE will be very prevalent. Then go with the GSM. Otherwise you may want to reconsider the sprint nexus. Just to say...
Verizon and sprint updated their galaxy nexus to 4.1 via OTA months after jellybean came out.
But the key here is that they still kept their promise and we had jelly bean before any other phone on their roster.
Even the hottest phone of the year Galaxy s3 didn't get jellybean till this week.(Verizon still waiting)
Verizon held up their end. You were the first to get jelly bean and unless the nexus 4 comes to Verizon, you will be the first on Verizon to have 4.2
The new Droid DNA comes with 4.1.2 so you're fine.
