Just wondering if anyone could inform me -- is it a function of the firmware in your car radio, or software in the phone that allows for things like displaying track names on the car display and controlling tracks (play, pause, next, reverse, etc) via radio buttons in the car?
If it is the car radio, what specific protocols or features should you look for to ensure that you can do this? If it is the software in the phone, what app should I be looking for?
Pretty sure this cannot be done, unless some new model cars are more advanced or it is a high end BMW or something.
I could be wrong but have never seen it
I've seen it with aftermarket head units at least being able to have controls.
Friend has one in his truck that will interact with his iphone at least.
Just wasn't sure entirely though if it's in the firmware or if there are software workarounds. Guess was always firmware of the radio - but not sure if there's specific protocols regarding it.

So I tried searching but I feel like this is a pretty specific item that I'm looking for so sifting through pages and pages of bluetooth headsets and separate car audio setups was frustrating me.
What I'm looking for is a small mic that I can mount near my sun visor that is wired to a bluetooth receiver that connects to the aux input in my car. This would allow my phone to connect via bluetooth and have a handsfree setup that would play through the car stereo without any wires to my phone and without using the phone speaker or mic. Can anybody tell me if such a system exists? I've been googling different terms trying to find things but the best things I can find are proprietary connections for stereos and I would like to stick with my OEM radio.
Thanks for the help, and I do apologize if I overlooked a topic discussing this.
This any help?

That is close to what I'm looking for but I can't find any that just hook in directly through a stereo aux cable, I don't want to have to hook into the back of my head unit. It looks like some of their products may possibly do this, but it seems like they are more complicated so the price is significantly higher. Still looking. Thanks for the help though.
There are a number of units out there that will transmit over FM frequency. This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it will do the trick. Instead of running the cable to your Stereo AUX port, just tune your radio to the specific station and you'll hear the audio through you car speakers.
This is what I have:
http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/t505/
It also has a loud speaker right in it so you can even use it without the FM radio if you desire. You press a button on the back and it'll search for an "open" FM channel and then it speaks the channel number for you to tune into.
Has the added benefit of allowing you to listen to music if you have it on your phone. Includes buttons on the side to allow you to change tracks backward and forward.
Dunno if your still in search for one but Scosche just came out with THIS. It also does Bluetooth Stereo which is a plus!
Hope this helps
I've been hunting for a solution as well (at least one that doesn't require me to buy a new headunit).
I'd love to get an fm transmitter or direct fm line input that supports a2dp with RDS, and has decent transmit power. The soundfly BT ultimate does most of this, but doesn't have RDS via bluetooth. It's a small detail, but it'd be cool to have. Any ideas?
A few months ago I upgrade my car stereo to an after market one which was great, I noticed the improvements all around.
But I've begun to wonder if it's at all possible to create an app, not only for the Evo, that could directly control the car stereo. I figured that the actual stereo, the bulkier part that does all the work, just needs something to control it, which in most, if not all, cases is the face plate(the one with the dials and buttons and display).
I know an app could be written up with the proper framework to control the stereo, but how would I go about to finding the actual signals that CONTROL the stereo to implement?
due to the ubiquity of iphones, a lot of cars support iphone docking, and with very nice integration including controls through the steering wheel and song titles on the dash.
now i know i can just plug android phones via the the 3.5mm jack and call it a day, but i really would like that integration.
do you guys know if it would ever be possible (without breaking some sort of apple patent) to somehow create some sort of hardware (or even possible software) bridge that would allow an android phone to be docked to an iphone-compatible car and basically emulate iphone signals (for audio controls, and displays etc) with jellybean and standardized usb audio docking, this might be more feasible now (commercially) than it was before.
i don't imagine older cars would want to upgrade firmware to support jellybean, so i figure this might be next feasible solution.
There are so many options that I don't know where to begin.
In fact, I'm rather lost as I can't really tell if a combination of tablet + car stereo will work for what I want to achieve.
Here's what I want to do:
I am using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8" as a satnav with Sygic.
I currently have an old Pioneer car stereo which works perfectly fine for mp3 CDs and radio but I want to change it to a new unit that would accept a small USB drive as storage for my mp3's. I don't care if it will accept CD's or not (even better if it doesn't).
What I want is this new unit to allow me to play music or radio as normal and, when instructions come from the Sygic App (turn left, turn right etc) during navigation, to get the music interrupted and the instructions heard from the car's speakers. After the instructions are over, the music then start back automatically.
The only thing I managed to sort out is that, for this whole thing to work, both devices (tablet and car stereo) must support the A2DP protocol. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8" does indeed support A2DP for Bluetooth (according to specs) but I'm lost as far as car stereos are concerned.
Instead of looking the specs of every single car stereo available on the market today, I thought I would try asking here first.
Does anyone have anything similar working?
Thanks in advance

You may try the "Dynavin Car Stereo"
I recently installed a Xtrons PQS90MTVL head unit in a skoda superb. I have a couple of questions on how to get it to work correctly when navigating.
1) It seems that you can set the navigation sounds to be a percentage of the radio volume but cannot set it to play at a given volume regardless. The problem is that the radio seems to be constantly on and there is no way to turn it off. The 'on/off' button simply mutes the radio - and the navigation sounds.
Often I am in an area where I cannot pick up a decent radio signal on the programme I want and just get static. In these situations I want to turn the radio off but still hear navigation sounds. I don't want to listen to loud static just so I can have the nav sounds play at a percentage of that static. Is there a way to turn the radio off but still get navigation sounds? (a workaround I have found is to play a media file instead of the radio and then pause playback. The nav sounds are then still a percentage of the - non existent - playback volume. However this should not be necessary)
2) It also seems that a Internet connection is needed for any navigation. even google maps won't do a search without it as it says I am offline. (is this true?)
I have bought the 4G wifi dongle but have a question about its use. Does the HU connect to the dongle, as far as data is concerned, via the USB socket that comes out of the back of the unit or is that socket simply powering the dongle and the HUI is actually connecting to it over wifi using the dongle as a hotspot? If so then I don't have to use the wired usb socket from the unit (which I suspect is underpowered) and can plug the dongle into an ordinary 2A USB socket that I have in the car, positioning the dongle near the roof for a better signal
Incidentally I did try using Android Auto with my phone using wired connection. That seems sort of OK but is not very reliable. Often when starting the car it hangs at the 'connected' screen, or even at the 'trying to connect' screen, although other times it seems OK
3) There is a small socket on the left hand side of the HU that looks like a slot for a small memory card or a sim card. It is labelled 'GPS'. What is that socket used for? it is not mentioned in the manual as far as I can see. - The manual is generally a bit hand waving though, excitedly telling you what you can do but not how to do it.
(I did try the xtrons forum but not only are the last posts there around January 2022 but there seems to be no way to register for it. Hence posting here)
Is it MTCx post system info including mcu version.
Mtcb is long retired

All I know is the model is Xtrons PQS90MTVL so maybe its MTVL (whatever that is) I'm afraid I don't know what mcu means so cannot offer any version for it. Its possible I have posted this in the wrong section and have rep[osted in 'Android Head-Units'. If that is the right place and this is the wrong place, please can you delete this post
