Does anyone know an app that will let you pull pics from video the way the HTC One X does? I'm not talking about taking stills while recording, but afterward when viewing.

I remember reading a review before I bought my S3 that said it had that same feature as the One X, I was sad to find it didn't exist on the phone. Would love to find something to do this.
Try frame grabber it cost money but works good

The stock camera well do this. Look above the record button for the vid cam, should be a slightly smaller camera button. That one will take pics while shooting video.

I don't beleive this is what the person is asking about. In a commercial for HTC, there is someone capturing still pictures from a video playback, not while actually recording.

i just noticed this only happens when u record on 1080p i feels like its more zoomed in.. kinda weird.
Its the 1080p feature. 720p looks perfectly fine or even better.
I do a lot of video recording and at 1080p it looks to be 1:1 ratio.
Most of us are used to recording at lower resolutions which have a different ratio.
It threw me off at first too.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
You're right, mine does that as well, and once I change it to 720, it zooms back out.
Anyone think this could be fixed with a rom?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Just noticed this myself!
On 1080p it looks zoomed in.
On 720p depending which way you shoot it it looks good, but when you rotate the phone and it switches to different viewing screen it looks zoomed in.
Hercules, Hercules!!
A review (forgot which) mentioned the 1080p uses another sensor in the lens whereas 720p uses the wide? Totally misquoted but tldr: its hardware based. Just stand back a bit.

So when I look at myself using the front facing camera it looks right. Then when I snap the picture it flips. On my EVO it did not do this. I looked in the settings to see if it was something I could change but I did not see anything. This is really annoying to me.
Am I missing it or is there a workaround out there?

The flip is to adjust it like a mirror.
Have you not figured it out?

What? My previous phone did not do this. I just want this phone to exhibit the same behavior.

The front camera shows a mirror image, but when you take a pic it takes it as the camera sees it, so you are actually taking a self portrait.
IIRC, the Evo would always take a mirror image with the front camera.
So are you saying you want to take a pic with your front camera and see it as a mirror image? The camera won't do this that I can see, but you can easily flip the pic with the photo editor app that comes on the E4GT.

Why do you want such a feature? O_ o.... that makes absolutely no sense to me, when you can just take the image you took, and flip it with any or current pic editor, i understand that you might want it automated, but..er.. what i don't get is why would you want such a feature lol.
Look for my fixed camera in the apps and themes forum. The international galaxy s2 has this as an option. The zip I posted will give you what your looking for.
This bugs me as well...

Thanks.... Your modified camera fixed it! Also, like that when selecting the focus point, the flash lights up to capture focus. I didnt see that feature in the stock camera but its nice for taking a picture in dim lit areas where it can be hard to focus.
Wondered if there are any apps that are like the one x stock camera interface? Loved the one touch feature to capture video etc.. Just find it much better than my sgs3 stock interface.
Edit, also miss the option to capture a picture when viewing a video..

anyone?
Capturing a pic whilst videoing works fine on mine, full stock...
EDIT - you mean watching video whilst capturing a pic? Can't say I've tried or had the need to

yes, capturing a pic while videoing works just fine.
but i miss the function of the HOX to capture a picture inside a previously recorded video. got some sweet pics that way, capturing a jump etc..
also, with the HOX it was only 1 click to start filming.
Nope its tied in with Sense so you'll need the Sense framework

I just noticed this now because I wanted to use the feature but my Rogers SGS3 can't take pics during video. The buttons not even there. I thought we were supposed to have that feature. Anybody else have that? Fix?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I thought that while recording video all you had to do was touch the screen to take pics?
That just causes it to refocus on that area.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Are you sure? I don't think you can manually focus during video recording. Taping the screen during recording looks like it is refocusing the camera but that is in fact the animation it makes when it is snapping a still during recording. No sound, no sliding to the side animation like when taking photos. Just that slight focusing effect to let you know you it worked.
Check your gallary.
Not working, tried that. Just refocusing the video. You can see a button on the bottom right that says AF to establish AF again. No pictures in the gallery.

I am on rogers and can take pictures during video.
when making a video all you do is press the little camera icon beside the red record button
I noticed that it says nexus so iam guess your not on stock rogers?
I'm with rogers using a custom rom and that feature is there

That is odd. Sorry I was of no help. Not sure what the issue is and unfortunately I'm not on a stock rom so I cant dig thru the cam/settings to be of any help.
Can someone who is on a stock rom that is able to take stills while recording post a screen grab of their cam app to show what its supposed to look like?

I've seen pictures of what it supposed to look like. Just was hoping maybe there was an option I missed. Very frustrating.....
If you have anti shake turned on then the option to take pictures while video recording is not there. Simply turn off anti shake

I'm posting this here because I don't think its a rom specific question. If I'm recording something and turn my phone sideways and then watch the recorded video, I notice the video its self turns sideways at the point I turned the phone sideways. It there anyway to change a setting or perhaps a app that will stop that from happening?

Weird I had to actually shoot some video to get what your saying. From what I gather that program locks keeps the angle of the video when you start it. Camera ICS+ does the same thing. I not sure if there is a fix. I will try a couple of others programs and reply back.
