CM7 is the best gingerbread rom out there right now IMO. Very stable, loads of options.

And not in any way stock.

What do you mean it's not stock? It's wholly stock, except for the part in Settings > CyanogenMod Settings, which a lot of people hold near and dear to their hearts. Otherwise, it's the fastest and most stable Gingerbread build -- nay, ROM -- that I've ever used on my Droid Incredible, even in it's Nightly Build state.
CM7 is 'stock'. I'd say the only thing making it not stock is ADW which can be removed with some basic stuff.

I dont get why cm7 would use adw and not just the stock launcher. That bugs me. But ive always hated adw.

I agree. I just download the stock Gingerbread launcher from the market and delete ADW. Works great with CM7.
Or learn how to compile source.

Why does everyone automatically say well learn to do it yourself? I asked a simple question about the launcher. I figured maybe I'd be told its customizable or something.

I honestly wish for a stock gb launcher too but CM7 doesn't have that by default. Your only choice is OMGB which is you know...
Sent from God, who uses CM7.
I've been running the C7 nightlies for a while and love them - What's different in the "stock launcher" rather then ADW? I'm not trolling just curious.
Yea I run OMFGB.
You could always do what i do and just download the roms you want pieces of and pull the pieces and put them into yours. Like download cm7 and omgb and put the omgb launcher into cm7

I ran an early build of OMBG and liked it but it was not stable enough to use as a daily driver at that point - I just don't remember what the differences were between it's launcher and ADW.
I installed omfgb today and then installed adw as i prefer 5 icons in my bar. I will install cm7 #28 asap tonite as omfgb just doesnt "feel" as stable.

I want to run a super simple and clean GB 2.3.7 Rom on my EVO 4g and im looking for recommendations.
I used to run SalvageMod w/tiamat 3.3.7sbc and loved it, everything worked perfectly. I cannot find a download of it anywhere though.
I dont really like any of the ICS ports and i hate the stock ICS email app and still really love the stock GB email app.
I would prefer something other than Cyanogen and the terrible battery life i get out of it...

Hey everyone. My Mother-in-Law has the Sprint SGSII and.....she hates it! She needs the capabilities the phone offers for her business, but she is extremely frustrated with the UI of Android. She is currently running the most recent ICS update. I am curious to know, from experienced users of this phone, what the most user-friendly ROM is - considering the end user.

I recommend the Blu Kuban Rom, its pretty much drama free. Use Odin to install a rooted version of ICS, then install CWM Recovery. Once that is installed slap the Blu Kuban ROM onto your SD card. Boot into recovery and install the ROM.
You will want to read some FAQs and guides if you haven't done it before.

My vote goes for stock with Apex launcher, the feature to lock the desktop is amazing for newbie android users, grouping shortcuts, customize the bottom icons, slight theming, working good so far.
I've rooted my SGS3 & am running StrongSteve's Odexed Blue, but this is my first Android phone & rooting experience. I will definately read the stickies & FAQs before I do anything. Hopefully the Epic 4G Touch isn't too different from my SGS3.

Stock, let the mother in law deal with Sprint especially if she uses her phone for business. Next thing ya know you get blamed if she misses a call or gets a late text.
Try a different launcher like apex or nova first. Lots of ppl also like go launcher, many themes
I have Nova launcher and I like it. Or go to settings, apps, select all, go to twlauncher and clear defaults then hit the home key to switch to twlauncher and you can make it your default for a straight Android look.

Go gingerbread and run stock or a stock ROM with tweaks. I'd say go with either blazers 4.1 calks 3.0 or unofficial ICS gingerbread ROM. ICS is just poo.

I got my tech retarded dad an evo 3d and put an AOSP ICS rom on it for him.It seems to be working well enough. As such I cannot recommend an AOSP rom enough for simplicity and ease of use. Google is like pretty good at what they do and IMHO AOSP is the cleanest, simplest to use option available. Keep the stock launcher and just put phone, browser, text and email in it...

No ROM is going to fix stupidity. No offense to your in laws.
That being said blu Kuban is a good choice for customizing to her specific needs. I usually refer to it as the "build your own ROM" ROM. However she may be a little daunted by the frequent updates and large amount of options. If you do choose that ROM I would highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the faq in my sig so you can send to any issues she may have with it. Also any ROM by team VeNuM, especially m'ICS or blue BOA would be a good choice as far as stability is concerned.

Hehe, none taken. She's not stupid, just "technologically challenged."
I can't remember where I saw the screen shot, perhaps an article on Android Authority, but I seem to recall seeing an initial setup screen shot from a GNex w/JB - shortly after Google launch party. That screen shot allowed two options, basically beginner or advanced mode. I believe I came away with the impression that was geared towards the UI too, not the setup method.
Now, I know JB ROMs are in alpha stage for the e4gt. Do you think I should wait for, what looks to be, an official JB release for the SGSII from Samsung?
Thoughts? Has anyone else seen, read, heard, or experienced this "beginner mode" on JB - or were the paint fumes at my office gettin' to me more than I thought they were that day?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
JB roms are not quite ready yet. There was some type of easy setup thing though. Honestly your best bet would probably be a simple launcher and lockscreen.
Keep it stock. Use a different launcher and remove all but one screen. Put the things she uses most on it as shortcuts, then lock it so she can't accidentally mess it up. Did that for my wife and it really helped!

no rom will fix this try Mihome miui launcher its as simple as it can get good luck
Ive been using the TeAm VeNuM cRaCk StOck[FH23] for the past couple of days and you cant get much more simple than that. Only change I made was switch to the Apex Launcher. The battery life is incredible!!!!

I find GB more stable then most ICS ROMs. Great battery life awesome signal and great GPS locks. Most GB ROMs are complete and done with updates due to ICS coming out. Currently ICS is still being updated and has many flaws. A lot of the devs like ruj and mijjz got their stuff in order but they update a lot and may irritate your mother in law.

You can just keep stock and go dead simple with i launcher. It will obviously have no bugs (its stock). its just an iphone launcher
I did fresh install of Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 using CWM. The ROM is great, most stable of the ones I used (official ICS, Liquid Nitro and some other ICS based) it has very few random reboots, and I think that SD card is a reason to that. I really like the CM 10.1.3 but problem is that games simply work slowly. I have installed Fruit Ninja 1.8.8 which worked fine on other ROMs I tried but here it works slowl, and Subway Surfers for example won't even open. Is there any fix to this?
Also by the way... Should I flash p936 baseband since I live in Europe?
Any of the CM or AOSP based ROMs will give you poor gaming performance. Only ROMs based on official ICS will have the performance needed IMHO. With that being said, currently I am running NitroTNT, which gives me the best balance of battery, performance and stability. You might also try SphinX which is based off of official Jellybean. Even though it isn't as good as ICS for games, it still is a lot better than CM.

Why might this be? Is it because the official-based roms use the kernel for this phone while CM uses a CM-based kernel? Can we maybe get CM10.1.3 working with an official jellybean-based kernel? @lyfkevin maybe you can provide some input.

Hmm that happened when I used Liquid Nitro too, it might be an issue with messenger. I think I'll replace it with a custom voice recorder. Oh and 1 suggestion (maybe I should have posted it on the Nitro TnT thread) I think you could have removed the stock calculator... There are 2 calculators there Anyway thanks for the ROM!
