Are there any special steps required flashing JB AOKP or CM10 from 2.3.6 Juggernaut 4.1v. With Synergy kernel.
Flashing new radios?
Kernels?
I'm looking for a DD. GB has served me well since I flashed back in Dec 11 but I would like to get with the times and Jelly Bean seems like a good fit.
I have searched the forums for a few days looking for similar posts but none seem to fit my circumstances.
Boot cwm, factory wipe, wipe partition cache, wipe dalvik, wipe system, flash rom, will reboot twice, mount system, flash again, flash gapps, I also backed up my efs

Any particular version of cwm. touch vs non touch. Ive read that a certain version of cwm had issues 6ish I believe.

I upgraded to the latest clockworkmod 3.0.0.5 and when I switch ROMs, I notice some of my item's are still "cached". For example, I was using Evervolv and then did a wipe of data, cache, and davlik, and flashed the RC1 for CM7. GApps are not packaged with either of these ROMs but when I booted up CM7 for the first time after flashing, GApps are installed, without me doing so. Is there an issue with the latest version of deleting cache or am I not doing enough wiping?
I am running into exactly the same problem. Works fine for flash over but the minute you choose wipe in ROM Manager of do a data wipe in recovery it does not make any difference. Not sure it is clearing anything in cache or data or at least consistently.
None of the other ROM devs have posted this so I am not sure what is going on
I am still messing with it
EDIT: You may want to post this in the ROM thread also so the devs are aware
i had the same problem.. From what i have been ready downgrade to cwm 2.5.1.2 and it should help..it did for me. the new cwm isnt running as good with some of the roms out there.
Hi all, I'm pretty familiar with flashing custom ROMs as I previously had a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate.
I recently got a Telus T989D, and I'm having some frustrating problems trying to flash a custom ROM. I have ClockWorkMod Recovery installed, and have been trying to flash various Cyanogen CM9 ROMs onto the phone. They all install properly, but once it gets to the Cyanogen splash screen (with the Android man turning angry for CM9), it gets stuck here.
I thought perhaps I needed to flash my radio, since all these custom ROMs were for the T-Mobile T989 "hercules" model. So I flashed the SGH-T989_UVLE1_radio.zip hoping that would work. Same problem.
Kind of at a road block here - any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Oh, and to clarify in case anyone asks - I have been doing data/cache/Dalvik wipes in recovery before installing the ROM.

If you are running CWM 5.0.2.7 non touch recovery, you have to use TDJs Superwipe script first to wipe data partition and system partition. Then you flash the ICS radio (if you haven't done so already) then the CM9 ROM, then ICS Gapps.
After this you need to flash TDJs Cache Wipe script. This will properly wipe cache, dalvik, and fix permissions. CWM 5.0.2.7 doesn't wipe and align the cache properly and gives problems. I never had any issues with CWM when running those scripts and it boots up everytime.
Alternatively, you may want to install TWRP 2.2.2 instead of CWM. It's a touch based recovery, but very simple to use and much better than CWM in my opinion. You also don't need to run the scripts since the data and system are wiped properly and cache and dalvik are also cleared properly as well.
If you go to the development section, under the TWRP thread, and search for flashable zip, there is a 2.2.2 flashable available that you can use in CWM. Then the next time you boot into recovery you will be in TWRP instead of CWM.

I just installed TWRP and I'm still running into the same issue. The Cyanogen splash screen just runs indefinitely. Looks like that wasn't the problem? Does it matter if you're rooted or not, if you try to flash a ROM from recovery?

Use the Darkside Superwipe to recreate all your partitions correctly. Sometimes when they are not aligned properly (by TWRP) you get weird boot hangs.
Don't restore data! Instead back everything up with something like Titanium and restore user apps only after the ROM has booted and you are satisfied.
+1 for the last post. Should work 100%!

How do I flash a new version of a ROM without re installing all my apps or contacts? For example if I have v1 of a person's ROM and they upgrade to v2, How would I flash the new version of the ROM without having to redo all my apps, contacts, email etc...?
All you do is flash the updated ROM the wipe cache and dalvik then reboot

Where he is right, you should still do a full wipe even when flashing the same rom if its a firmware upgrade, or major backend framework has been modified.
If you do a android backup prior to flashing, you can do an advanced restore of data only, from your nandroid backup, and all of your apps & data will restore just as it was before - while maintaining the integrity of the updated version of the ROM you use.
Super easy, super fast, super efficient.

clarify best clean install, ie what needs to be wiped
I posted in a different thread, "moment to epic now S3" asking basically what constitutes a full wipe when flashing a rom, or flashing mods. On my epic CWM it was pretty clearly stated in almost all OP wipe all 3, times 3. If not it was said wipe davlik and cache times 3. I'm using the twrp recovery and there are so many wipe options, and I don't know which ones are necessary for a clean install when flashing a new ROM. My phone was giving my so much trouble yesterday i wiped all but the external and flashed a stock rom, then odined a stock rooted to be back at square one. But I don't want to flash a new rom until I here from others the cleanest way to install. I noticed for flashing a kernel it said I had to fix permissions also? So I guess it seems less cut a dried, 3 options (with epic recovery) and before I start screwing around with my phone I wanted some clarification, for flashing roms, flashing modems, flashing mods...what needs to be wiped, or what constitutes a full wipe. I can't assume that a clean wipe means everything and if it doesn't well obviously that would be nice to not have to wipe internal card etc if i don't have to
thank you much

Issues: self reboots, turns off on its own at times, screen scrolls up/down on its own.
I have been running this ROM since day one basically and I always MAKE A NANDROID,Boot into recovery,Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache, then go into mounts & storage and format system,Flash ROM,Flash Gapps with every update but as of late ive got these issues and my thread has alot of people talking about kernels and im wondering if i flash the devs latest Underwear kernel 4.7.2013 that will fix these issues of mine? But at the same time ive never installed a kernel before ive always just flashed the devs updates and it seems i need to figure out how to get into flashing kernels so if ya can help me out with any info that will up my kernel game please help!
flashing a kernel is as simple as wiping cache & dalvik, flashing the kernel zip and rebooting. where it get's serious is when you're looking for the kernel. flashing one that's not for your device or version of android, say, will generally soft brick your phone. as long as you've done your research, flashing a kernel can be something you do easily in order to try and gain better performance or battery life. cheers
Just dropped a rooted stock rom back on my t989 (from this thread), and I'm geting com.android.phone has stopped message. Came from Cyanogen, Infamous, and Jedi, no problems, but for some reason, the stock rom installed via twrp seems to fail. I need it more or less stock, and I'd really rather not Odin it. Any ideas?

Did you wipe system, cache, dalvik, cache, data, and android secure before flashing? If so, after flashing wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache and reboot

Yep. Per the instructions, performed all of the above wipes, as well as darkside super wipe and wipe before installing the ROM.
Also wiped cache and dalvik after flashing, but haven't tried wiping data after flash...I'll give that a try this evening.
Last night, out of necessity to have SOMETHING running on the device, I threw on AOKP, which runs without issue. I've seen a few other debloated/rooted stock T989 UVMC6 roms floating around, but the comment threads underneath them seem to indicate problems of various types.
If someone knows of a UVMC6 TW ROM that is known good, and can be installed via installed via TWRP, I'd be very interested, even if it still has the bloat. Its the wifes phone and she is a bit of a touchwiz nazi, but hates all the custom boot logos, etc, that come with roms like Infamous. Stock is where she is at.

AOSPA KitKat runs SOO much better than TW. You can change the boot animation to something else very easily.

I'd use the "infamous" wipes before flashing...just for anything touchwiz based. Not aosp. And don't use the darkside wipes...they are outdated.
Search Google or XDA..."t989 infamous wipes"

You can also just Odin stock 4.1.2 and debloat it yourself with titanium backup. Freezing bloat, no sense in uninstalling it.
