My work laptop has a security policy the does not allow usb mass storage devices to connect. In ICS, I just set my SGS3 to connect as a camera in order to usb tether. After applying the 4.1.1 Jellybean update, it seems to have defaulted back to mass storage, and I can not find a setting anywhere for USB connections to switch it back to connect as a camera.
Can anyone help?

I've had this happen as well.
Enable usb debugging, then it'll work. idk why it has to be fine like that though.

Didn't work, and it got rid of mtp mode but nothing happens when I plug usb in now (besides charge)

you have to go to
settings/wireless and network/usb utilities/connect storage to pc
It will ask you to connect cable, then you can choose usb mass storage.
Just flashed new rom cause nothing worked thanx for the input thou.

Is the computer recognizing the.phone? Once USB debugging is checked you should be able to pull down the notification bar and make your selection.

Stupid question for sure, but I can't figure it out. Just got a refurb which came with fh13. Can't for the life of me figure out how to turn off usb storage mode. When I plug in via usb it gives me a storage mode and a camera mode, no other options. I have debugging enabled of course. What am I missing?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Pull down the notification bar when the phone is plugged in there should be an option to turn on usb debugging that you can select.

I believe this is a driver issue... I'll report back. Maybe that's why the debug mode option is not presenting itself when I plug it in...

Please don't confuse using debugging mode being used to apply the auto root tool or using a one click. Debugging is not required for OC's or Odin.

If you have debugging on when you plug in your phone it should recognize it. Then pull down the notification bar and select USB connected, then select turn on USB storage. Then transfer then files you need to. Yes USB debugging on. Here is some trouble shooting tips, reinstall drivers, change the USB cord, or change the port you are plugging into on the computer.

Also stated above you need to be in download mode to use Odin not debugging mode.

Yes I understand the difference between debugging and download mode. I just assumed you had to have usb debugging on for odin to work. Either way if it's not connecting to the computer correctly it'll cause problems. If I don't need debugging for odin to work then no worries, for now.
All drivers installed correctly (this time), restarted my computer between uninstall, install, plug in, etc, i still can't get a debugging mode option to pop up.
Aggrevating as ****.
Also, using the FH13 one click, I don't get past the "setup connection" step.... obviously there is a problem with the link between my computer and phone.

One suggestion, make sure your drivers are up to date. If you're running Kies, open it and make sure its updated. Or check and make sure you have the latest Sammy drivers.

I remember having a similar problem once before, something about 64 bit windows sucking with it's drivers. I've installed them directly from samsung a few times, installed kies only because I thought it might help. tried every combination of restart, tried 3 different usb cables, tried 3 different ports. LOL pissing me off, which is in turn pissing my girlfriend off which is in turn pissing me off even more because she wont shut up.

Absolutely. I run 64 bit on my work and 32 on my personal. My personal would work, my work wouldn't. Same cable. I ended up having to remove everything on the 64 and reinstalling. No explanation why.
Off subject, now on the 64 bit, i have to have my phone in dowload mode, plugged in to the laptop, THEN open Odin for the phone to be recognized.

I have flashed my phone with the Goodness rom and then further flashed the kernel and modem to the FL16.
Discovered that the mass usb storage option doesn't appear when you connect your usb cable. Only has MTP and Camera options. The problem that I got was that as soon as I start to copy files from my computer to the phone, it would cause the phone to reboot.
From researching (lurking) around the forums, I found that you can manually turn on the USB mass storage option.
Home screen -> Settings -> More Settings -> USB utilities
Within there, you are able to turn the option on/off. Now I am able to copy my files over without the phone rebooting itself. :good:

I recently updated my Note 2 SPH-L900 to Android 4.3. At first everything went well until when I went to root it it seems though my phone recognizes its been plugged in as a media device to my computer it says that there is no program that can access its files. I've activated USB debugging as well as put it to MTP+ADB under the Qualcomm USB settings and then selected to use MTP. Did I click a wrong setting? My phone will charge when plugged in to my computer. Odin also does not recognize my phone. Any help to fix this problem is greatly appreciated.
USB debugging is MTP+ADB. When you put it back on MTP you took it off USB debugging.

I didn't take it off of MTP+ADB. One I pressed save and reset I plugged my phone in and touched the USB button in the status bar then I selected mtp for media device instead of ptp for camera. Yet despite having the right settings my note 2 states that it is unable to find software on my computer that can recognize my phone. I'm using Windows 7 with the Samsung USB phone drivers installed already. This problem only started when I updated to the 4.3 update. Hopefully this information helps a bit more then my previous post.

I rooted my Samsung note II (cm11 nightly) recently and when I tried to use the drive link app with my head unit (xav-601) it is now constantly saying unsupported USB device .. Is there something I can do to have it recognize my phone to make it a working USB device?
If you have a notification menu you can swap usb modes in there. On stock touchwiz there is 2 options in there.

Yea I've switched it to both camera and disk mode both seem to give me the same msg (unsupported USB device) I've even tried turning on USB debug mode.
