Hello
I am using codename 3.6.6 rom now
I was trying to flash leankernel 1.7 which was released today
However, after I flash it, my phone didn't turn on
I did wipe cache, dalvic cashe, and fix permision after I flashed
please help me! I want to install a new kernel
Or please recomend me some good kernels
Thank you
Need a kernel that's compatible with the older version of the ROMs. There are new fixes in the cm code that will screw things up if you flash a newer kernel. You need to go in and wipe system and try to reflash cna ROM and home for the best. Otherwise you need to wipe everything (data, system, cache) and start over.
Read a little more in the kernel section before applying. If did make a back up then you're in luck.

A bit confused...
I'm on CM9 alpha 1 and want to get to alpha 2
The CM9 install page says to just use CWM5 to flash the ROM and I dont have to wipe anything...
But I see several things that seem to say flashing ICS stuff through CWM can brick the phone...
Some clarification please?
number 1 do not use rom manager!
number 2 it safe to flash using clockwork mod, upgrading ics roms. but to go back to gingerbread you need to use Odin.
at least that's what I understand. if I'm wrong someone please correct me

im on calks rom and to upgrade from 1.3 to 1.4 i only deleted the cache and dalkiv (sp?) cache and installed the rom and worked great.

It's not safe to do any thing with a ics kernel .even wiping data cache etc can brick a phone ..... Always use A GB kernel to flash anything until we get source and they can fix it.... U can use mobile Odin to flash the el26 cwm kernel and then flash the rom without wiping data .... Make sure to flash rom twice and then flash gapps and you are good ....

AOSP roms are quite a bit different then TW roms . Also I don't recommend wiping on ICS unless you like shiny bricks

Are you saying dont wipe anything while you have an ICS ROM installed... or just don't try to wipe when you have the ICS recovery installed?.. Like if I have an ICS ROM installed and flash back to an EL29 kernel, I can wipe then right?

yes in theory with a gb based kernel you should be able to wipe but I personally recommend odin'ing a full gb from and kernel then using recovery. I also recommend using calk's wipe zips because they seem to be much safer than CWM wiping directly.

Transfer a ROM and COMPATIBLE kernel to your phone or sdcard. Do a FULL wipe (factory reset, cache and dcache). Install the ROM and kernel.
If that still doesn't work, use an ODIN image and flash via Odin. That'll solve the problem for sure.

pretty sure. do u have any suggestion or mayb a link on where to get a basic jb kernel and rom that is know to work. just so sick of the aokp the camera sux
There might be a box that you need to uncheck "md5"
Here. DL the jb stock kernel here. There is a cwm package zip so you don't have to flash the whole ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892297

Installation 7 usually means it was a bad download. Have you tried just restoring a backup or flashing Odin stock.

I am having a hard time finding a compatible Kernel for [ROM] [AOSP] » LIQUIDSMOOTH » JellyBean [4.1.2] RC 9 [HERCULES]
-GS2 T-Mobile T989
I tried flashing [KERNEL]OC/UV up to 1.83GHz h0tcakez JB | 3.0.49 For Hercules
Firstly, I am getting confused which one to use, but I tried each one anyway.
--They all result in BootLoop--
I have seen people have it as a kernel, but I can't seem to figure it out.
If anyone can help me, Thank you in advance
T-mobile Galaxy S2 T989
LIQUIDSMOOTH RC9 JELLYBEAN 4.1.2
CWM 5.0.2.7
- I have tried 6.0.1.9 CWM, seemed buggy for me.
- Also used TWRP, it works great but same results with the bootloop after flashing [h0tcakez Kernel]
Flash kko-t989 or hotcakes aosp kernel. Wipe dalvik , wipe cache then reboot. Try sk8erwitskils cwm recovery its in the thread for development

I can't find the sk8terwitskills cwm recovery. But I have tried to flash and wipe dalv/cache still getting the bootloop.
Its aosp so either should work.
Can you get to your recovery?
I have always had to use the darksidecachewipe zip after flashing with cwm recovery.
Twrp does NOT require the use of cache wipe scripts.
Try getting the darksidecahewipe onto your device, and run it from recovery after you flash.
I soft bricked a phone the other day with the hotcakes kernel because I didn't make sure I was running a post-oct14 build of cm10. So make sure you meet all criteria for installation.

Tried everything, not working, What build are you using? Maybe Ill try it. Please
Update your recovery to latest TWRP or CWM. If your flashing properly and still having issues then that's all it could be.

I've used these kernels on various JB ROMs
KKO
http://db.tt/uEx0aED4
Hotcakez
http://db.tt/pB0nkMik
Base Firmware
Would it matter if I started at a 4.0.3 Firmware or a 4.0.4 firmware Stock? I have been flashing from 4.0.3 Stock firmware
I'm running the stable release of cm10. I've tried lots of ROMs and I find I always go back to cm10.
The liquid ROM is cm10 based so anything that will work with cm10 should work with liquid ROM.
Try flashing cm10 stable from scratch. Full wipes. Follow instructions on cyanogenmod install instructions page.
Backup.!!! If still on cwm,...........use darksidesuperwipe to factory reset device. I like to flash radio then cm10 then DScachewipe and reboot. Wait at least 10mins after first boot.
Then I like to reboot, and flash gapps then kernel, then DScachewipe.
In my opinion, definitely get onto twrp. No need to DScachewipe before reboot. Also nicer UI.
After cm10 is running good, flash till your hearts content.
Although I think you will find cm10 to be an excellent daily driver.
Good luck.

good day...i currently rooted my sgh t989 uvlh1...now im trying to flash a cm10 rom (is the best jb rom currently available?) now this is my problem.
i tried looking on the cm10 thread and the instructions/comments include flashing a radio or changing a kernel...and i dont understand both of them and if i really have to do it...could someone please teach me how to flash it step by step(i'll be the one to find the files)here's what i'm planning
-wipe everything using cwm(cache dalvik)
-flash cm10 rom(which should i choose stable or nightly?)
-gapps(20121011)
done...
is that right?
do i have to change kernels?
or radio?

ok, here is a simple way that i live by. this is how i do it. when using non touch wiz roms like aokp, my personal favorite or cm10.
first make sure you are on a touch recovery. then start by backing up your current rom first. next do factory reset 3 times, wipe system 3 times and the same for cache and dalvik cache. if you if you have a certain radio you want to flash do that first. then still in recovery flash rom then google apps. wipe dalvik cache and reboot. don't touch anything for 10min. now reboot and let sit for 1min and set up phone... sounds like a lot but you get a clean install... by the way, i find it better to just use the kernel that comes with the rom. you can use the same method for touch wiz minus installing google apps..
this is what i started out with. do read the entire thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1926754
i know he says that for aosp rom you don't have to wait the 5-10 mins, but i do it anyway just to be sure. then i reboot and wait an additional 5-10 mins.
oh and i'm on cm10 nightly, 12/1/2012 to be exact. it's super stable and smooth, no worries. just make sure you flash the right file (our phone is hercules) and gapps (20121011).

follow every thing edshawn said just to be safe. You can always flash a diff. radio at a later time. Also dont flash a nightly if you dont want to encounter any bugs. Im currently on last sidekick's liquid smooth and its the fastest cm10 rom ive used, but thats just me everybodys phone reacts differently. Also I would recommend twrp recovery over CWM, but you can do that later as well.
Thanks!

Huh, you didn't know how to properly flash a ROM!? :sly:
Yet, you made a ROM
I'm not sure if its just my phone, had this problem for a while now, but when it occurs, i usually just flash another rom, but basically, when it comes to my rom and flashing a rom that comes with a custom kernel, its a no go what so ever, its force close central, and boot loops and all that, no idea why, but my phone just simply doesn't play nice with any custom kernels at all, started with Jellybomb, use to love it, worked perfect, no problems, then when it updated to i believe 10, 11, not precise on what version, and he used a custom kernel, then bam, tried everything, no luck, and couldnt use that rom with my phone anymore, or any other rom that comes with custom kernels, and still cant, and i guess its time to mention it to verify if this happens to anyone else.

where would i find that?, and what specifically does it do?
i dont want to hijack a thread but also dont want to start a new one since there is this one. has any cspire s3 users flashed a different kernel and had success with it. im on the latest pacman rom and want a diff kernel. ive flashed one before and got a softbrick. just curious.
@ IonIcone, Keep the thread to the user that's asking the question.
Search the whole forum first / search it online, if it's a no go on both parts, then start a question
thread of your owns.

KernelCleaner can be downloaded here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1319515&d=1347395869
scripted by mattrb, you can thank him for that file.
When using kernels make sure it's for the right version
JB or AOSP. and also make sure its for the right version
4.1.x or 4.2.x
Usually when you're also installing a rom with a dif kernel ( and you CAME from a rom with STOCK kernel )
you'll need to wipe cache and dalvik cache, and re-set permissions via Custom Recovery.
If those don't work, search the original ROM thread for a [Q] of the same as yours and see if there was a fix / reply for that.
If all else fails, contact the dev of the rom with your specific issue.
I've been switching between kernels and JB versions and i've never ran into this issue. Anthrax, K747, Agat's and Stock Optimized.
Have you tried odin flash restore to stock LJ7 and re-installing the rom as well?

I actually tried that same exact kernel cleaner this morning, I searched and found it, had no luck with it though, and for the 'choosing the right kernel', it comes built in with the ROM, its the jelly bomb 14 ROM I'm referring to, also did wipe both caches and fixed permission, still no luck, I want to believe its my phone itself though, because I know it wouldn't be the ROM, I deff trust the ROM and developer obviously, and used his work before, but that's when he didn't use a custom kernel, but when he included the custom kernel built in, I believe jellybomb 10, or 11, then it was the last time I could of flashed any of his Roms, I do remember having similar problems with other Roms that uses custom kernels also, the only kernel my phone plays great with, is the stock optimized, and the cyanogenmon kernels, but ktoons and agats, and even anthrax (when I was using freeza fregs3, just went no go on my device
