[Q] exFAT question - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hi,
I was previously using XquiziT xD v34 and somehow got the exFAT format to be recognized by the phone. I upgraded to v37 and now the phone rejects the format and forces it to unmount. Is this suppose to happen or did I do something wrong regarding the flashing process? I use Windows 7's formatting tool and I use a 32gb micro SD by Team. Any info regarding this matter would be great Thanks!!

Did you flash a custom kernel. I dont think any of them support exFat so you'd be stuck with stock kernels if im right on that.

The kernal provide by the rom is stock according to the Aroma selection. I'm not sure if superwipe changed anything but the rom would try to read the SD card then a message prompting for safe removal appears. I had to format the card back to FAT32 for it to recognize. I am using Nova Launcher which was the same launcher in v34. I am considering downgrading to v34 to see if it's the fault of the new version.

[Q] Custom Roms and 64gb cards

Safe to assume that all custom Roms will not read a 64gb card if formatted in ex fat?
And Roms based on stock should be ok?
I believe that statement is true. If you replace rom with kernel..
To be safe.. Exfat for stock, fat32 for everything else.
Not saying Exfat won't work with custom kernel.. But the few I have tried didn't..
Also.. Maybe cwm also has problems with Exfat.. Not sure..

Ok thanks.
Yeah cwm doesn't see the card at all. The issue I have with fat 32 is the file size limit. I would prefer not having to re convert videos so that I can put them on my phone. Then again I could probably learn to live with it

Using CM 10.1 based ROM - ExtSdCard no longer working

Hello all.
Got my Note 2, a couple of months back. Beast of a phone.
Rooted, and installed Team Asylum CM10.1 ROM [01-29-13]. Ever since installing that ROM, the external SD card used to get unmounted when i locked the phone, and re-mounted everytime I unlocked it. I thought that was how the ROM worked, until recently when the External SD card stopped working. Neither the CWM Recovery nor the ROM recognize the card anymore.
Lost my Nandroid backup too, since it was in the external SD card. But I'm hoping that if it ever comes to it, I'll be able to install Stock ROM again through Odin.
Any suggestions, guys?
Thanks in advance.
Cm10.1 doesn't support exfat format it to fat 32 via pc.

SD card not mounting/cant flash ROM

I have CWM 6.0.3.1 installed and im rooted. When I go into recovery the SD card does not mount. So I can't flash a new ROM. I tried to format the SD card in the phone but that did'nt help either. I have the stock ROM with 4.1.2. Can i use the stock recovery to flash a ROM or do I need CWM? When im in stock recovery the card is mounted and I can read it. Its just in CWM it will not mount,
btw-im trying to flash cm10 dont know if that matters.

Have you tried TWRP? What type of card? What's the size?

Why not Odin flash the stock-rooted rom and then you can flash cwm/twrp custom roms or just stay stock rooted.
Either way it will fix your mounting issue for sure.
Big mistake if you're going to flash cm10, you are just asking for problems unless you like experimentation.
Good luck!

I did Odin flash like you told me in another post. It got the phone back up but I cant get the card to mount in CWM. I guess Ill try TWRP. Thanks for the heads up on cm10. I could stay stock but I wanted to increase the CPU speed and get some features stock does'nt have. I don't want to turn this into "whats the best ROM" but can you tell me a good one without problems.
I guess it has to do witht the SD card. I used a 1gb and it works fine. But i still need to figure out how to make the 64gb card work.
Not sure that the 64GB cards work on AOSP. Pretty sure you need TouchWiz ROM for that.

The 64GB are in EXFAT format and I don't believe CWM can identify the card in that format. You will need to format the card to FAT32 on your pc and then the recovery should read your card.

That's only one of many reasons why I always try to advise people to stay away from AOKP/AOSP/CM roms.
All of them have inferior cameras and none have wifi calling.
Those roms were meant for developers or for those who like to do a lot of experimentation.
I just got a 64gb sdcard yesterday and it works perfectly, I had a 16gb card which worked perfectly too.
The rom I am using now is jovy's Stockorama v1 which is not exactly stock, it is deoxidized and debloated
and has many mods and lot's of improvements when compared to stock rom.

Weird, when I go to format my card I can only do FAT32 or NTFS. No other options are there, its win 7.

As I said, FAT32 is the one you wanna format it to lol
I formatted mine way back in September of last year. Never had a single issue with my card on stock or AOSP based Roms.

All sdcards come pre-formatted with FAT32 as default because they perform better and
faster than other formats when used in cell phones and other small devices.
The only advantage of formatting sdcards with other than the default format is when you are
dealing with files larger than 4GB in size. Most people will never have to deal with files of that
size unless they want to use their phones to record video for more than 8 hours continuously.
There are many 3rd party windows 7 utilities which have other format options like MiniTool partition wizard it's a free
(for home use) partition manager that can format a partition as EXT2/3/4 from windows - http://www.partitionwizard.com

I know the aosp/aokp/cm based roms do recognize most sdcards but we are talking about 64gb sdcards
and that's where many of those roms have a problem recognizing and formatting the 64gb sdcard.

Hmm.. That's odd. I'm currently running Liquidsmooth 2.4 with my FAT32 formatted 64 GB SanDisk Class 10 card with no issues. It's been almost a year now since moving from EXFAT.
It has worked on both CWM and TWRP recovery for me.

See like I said above, TWRP is the best way to go. It was updated not to long ago to be able to identify EXFAT format. Glad you got it working dude.

Can't mount ext SD card after installed Wicked rom

I can't mount the ext SD card after installled Wicked ...Plz help
format the SD card to fat32
Sent from my SGH-M919
i did but same thing
I am having the same issue. I have a 64gb Samsung SD Card
There's a patch you need to flash to get the SD card to work. Something about rooting needing to flash a new kernel. The new kernel breaks the SD card mounting. There's a fat32 patch you can flash to get it to work. Lemme find the link, its here on the forums. I had the same issue. Flashed the patch and its miraculously working. I'm sure its the same issue when you flashed the new ROM. Stand by.

Correct. Ktoonsez's is one of them. Grab a stock kernel for backup, but I haven't had any issues with flashing it. Totally plug and play.

[Q] steady getting the hang of this but i need some help

ok well i started having quite a few problems today, i have literally spent my day searching through threads for a solution and coming up short. I seem to have entailed a few problems and questions and could use a bit of assistance with them, if the question has been answered and i simply didnt see the responce i apoligize and would kindly ask if you could link me to the right place, anyway, here we go.
Question 1, I unmounted my external sd card in order to format it to fat32 from exfat so i could use it with saberkernel and the jedi master rom. Well after i unmounted and put my card in my card reader and hooking it up to my computer, it refused to pick up my card. I wasnt sure if the issue was with my card or with the reader, so I plugged the card back into my phone but I can't mount it again, the option to mount the card is greyed out. I also tried to mount the card in team win recovery and i constantly get E: unable to mount ' /external_sdcard' is there a fix for this or does this mean my card is somehow fried? also, since this time I flashed from the jedi master rom to the stock deodexed rom found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102380 but that did not fix the problem, still no mount.
Question 2 My second question comes from being on a deodoxed stock rom. now as far as my understanding goes, this type of stock rom allows themes and mods to be installed to it right? well i was trying to install the theme from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2056666&highlight=stock+theme along with its add on for the 23 togges, but ive had no luck. whenever i try flashing these it always tells me the flash has failed. i thought they were compatible because they both said they operate on the baseband i'm on and im really confused to why they wont flash. if they are not compatible can someone link me to themes that are as well as that toggle that works with the stock rom?
Question 3 whats the difference in basebands? when i start installation for jedi master i notice there are all these various baseband options, what do they all mean and how do they differ? i read something on it but i didnt understand at all
that should cover it all. thanks everyone in advance for any help i really appreciate it. im new to the whole android thing just sold my iphone a short time ago and this takes some learning
Do u have a micro usb adapter for ur computer? Format it to exfat and try using perseus kernel. Ive been using jedi master and x with perseus and havent had an issue. I tried using the internal sdcard swap with saber and it just wouldnt work. How big is ur sdcard?
As for themes, are u using the ones specifically for jedi master? Are u clean or dirty flashing? U have to reflash a rom if u change themes.
Basebands.... Id google android basebands and read up on the first few links.

I got the themes to finally work just took a few tries. dunno y because i just kept doing the exact same thing and it works now I was using the persus kernel at first but i wanted to try saber. my card is a 64gb. I have a micro usb adaptor but my computer wont detect the card anymore and neither will my phone
Put the sdcard in ur computer, go to disk management and see if u can format it that way. Delete volume, partition it and reformat it to whatever u need. I suggest exfat
