I'm sure there is another post about this but I will be away from my PC tomorrow for a week so would like to solve this before I leave. When I go to gallery or camera it says no external storage and closes. I've tried reflashing ROM and fixing permissions but have had no success. Any help would be huge

Hey guys,
I was hoping for some advice. I installed Jelly Bean and I cant find my music files or my pics. Now if I run root explorer I can find them in the SD card menu but if I just open gallery or music they will not be there.
Now I wanted to move them so I can actually access them and have tried two ways. Using root explorer and copy and pasting the folder. That did not work. And then I was going to just move the files around by connecting my phone to my computer. When I do this I cant even access my SD card for some reason. And yes USB debugging is on and checked.
So how do I get these files to where I need them? Any help would be amazing. Thank you in advance guys.
This is for development only . But files should be in there unless you partitioned the SD card. Maybe try using a different cord or plugging in a different USB. Happens to me a couple of times so I have to locate file in my computer.

Install and run SDRescan from the market.
Go to the folder where they are stored and look for ".nomedia" file and delete it from the folder and then the galley and music app should find them

None of these options worked....and no its not my cord because I can access files just not the ones I need.
In before closed!

Well there is at least someone else with my issue. Now can anyone tell us how to fix?
The problem I am having is my photos do not appear after I take them, but if I go and sort out display options in the gallery by date they appear. All of my music is there and no problems. I didn't have this issue when I first went to jb. BTW I have a gsm nexus

I guess nobody has a answer
Hi,
Do you see your specific files in ICS?
Have you tried Menu > Refresh?
Have you tried clearing Gallery data?
Have you tried fixing permissions in recovery?
Think out of the box

Could also be ROM related. Have you tried a different Jelly Bean ROM?
Here comes probably a solution
Guys, for those having issues with Media process, where Pictures & Musics don't show up, here's the solution that worked for me:
I got it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21746289&postcount=2 (thanks Chrono_Tata).
Based on what Chrono_Tata wrote, I decided to create a ".nomedia" file in my main personal directory, where contains pictures, musics, personal files and so on.
(For those not familiar with Linux, the ". (dot)" in the beginning of the filename is very important! It means that it's a hidden file. You can create it through ES File Explorer)
For testing purposes, I copied some musics / pics to directories out of that my structure.
Then, stopped and cleaned data for: Gallery, Google Music and Media . Afterwards, restarted phone.
Bingo. It did work, and I could see the pics/musics outside my main directory (although it takes a while to re-scan everything, so wait! Gallery and Music will show nothing until scan is complete).
Well, after I realized it did work, I continued in the following way:
1) Delete the previous ".nomedia" file that I created
2) Create a new one under some sub-directory.
3) Repeat process for re-scan
I did it until I found which directory had an issue (btw, my pictures directory).
I think it might be related to thumbs.db file created by Win, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I still have to check carefully my structure to find the issue.
Hope it helps.
Regards,
Adriano.
There's no option to save images from the camera to my external SD card. I'm on the newest (10/1/12) nightly of CyanogenMod 10. Anyone else have this issue and resolved it?
It's normal, for now. Option doesn't exist.

You can always use root explorer and move them manually

After moving them manually your thumbnails show up as black boxes until you touch the pic in the gallery then it shows the picture.Kinda annoying and or embarrassing when you flip to the wrong picture if you know what I mean...Clicking the properties of the camera app it shows the path for pics to be saved to sdcard0.Would changing that to sdcard1 fix the thumbnail issue?
Pretty sure aokp (task) just added the option to save pics to external SD card

the TouchWiz Camera app allows this as well. (if you want to flash a custom TouchWiz ROM)
I have figured out a workaround for the CM10 issue with not saving pics and vids to the external SD card.I use a file manager called SUFBS.You have to buy it from the market. It's the only file manager I use so I don't know if you can do this with any other file manager.Open SUFBS and mount your system by pressing Menu->Mount System R/W. Navigate to /mnt/sdcard/DCIM/Camera and copy either the entire file or individual pictures.Paste what you have copied into /mnt/external_sd/DCIM/Camera.After you have done that shutdown SUFBS and go to your gallery to make sure the pictures are showing up.Then you can go ahead and delete the data from /mnt/sdcard/DCIM/Camera so you don't have duplicate pictures or videos.Works perfect for me and hope this helps someone.
I'm still using the stable build.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this is fixed in the nightly build?
TIA.

Hi, I recently reflashed from scratch my gn, but I incurred in a strange problem: a few of my folders DON'T have write permissions! I can't copy/save files in there!
Is there a way to fix it? Maybe in ADB?
It's a huge problem, since one of the folders is the camera one!
I restored my SD backup with the GN Toolkit...

Anyone? I can't take photos, till the Camera folder remains without write permissions! In root explorer I can see permissions set to rwxrwxr-x but write permission is denied anyway!
Any help would be appreciated..

Here is a screenshot using titanium backup, see that it says that the folder doesn't have write permissions (It's in Italian).

Actually I am not sure that flashing the GNex from scratch requires deleting the sdcard then moving the folders back.
Unfortunately I am not familiar with the GN Toolkit but assuming the backup of your sdcard is already saved on your PC then I would try to delete the camera folder (DCIM) then push it again from PC to sdcard and check.
Have a look at this if it is similar to your problem so you can find a solution there

I did a few backups in twrp. Not sure if that's what is causing it. There are a lot of large data files in the miscellaneous tab. Four data.ext4.win and four system.ext4.win. What are these files for? Can I delete any of them?

Those are your backups. They use space on the phone's storage. Connect it to a PC and transfer the files off.
What's the best way to delete twrp backups? It seems like they get saved to 2 spots: \storage\emulated\0\twrp\backup and sdcard/TWRP. Then inside emulated is a copy of sdcard as sdcard0. Where is this emulated thing coming from? I think it's AirDroid. I tried uninstalling AirDroid, and deleting that while tree but I get an error in both root browser apps I use.

Not airdroid...
It's a legacy folder that is added when using CM builds. ..
Do a general search on the subject. ..and you'll find the full explanation for the "O" folder. ..g

I'm using a Bell I317M and recently flashed the official 4.3 update. I have noticed that I see duplicate entries in the gallery and have traced it down to the fact that I have two paths mapped to the SD card: /storage/extSdCard and /mnt/extSdCard
I don't recall this happening prior to the update. I believe it's related to a new way of referencing the external SD cards but is there a way to fix this so that the stock gallery app doesn't think they are completely different locations and show duplicates?
Actually, this is not only restricted to the stock gallery app. I have the stock android gallery app and it's doing the same thing!
Are you using more than one gallery ??
Or more than one camera app?
Both will create and place duplicates...
Just a thought.... g

I have both the Samsung stock gallery app and the Stock JB gallery installed. As for camera, I mainly use the Samsung stock camera app. But how (and why) would it create duplicates? New pics get saved to the DCIM location on the external SD card.
But since I have 2 logical paths to that location (one through /mnt and another through /storage), the gallery shows duplicates....

Have you flashed or dirty flashed roms? I've seen it where this can happen. Most likely the double gallery apps are doing this. Can you delete the non samsung app and see if that worked?

Agreed ....
Use TIBU and freeze one of the apks then delete it's associated duplicate folder...
Then test it...
Also ...make sure that you don't have 2 cameras set as system apps or they will both create folders on boot...g

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to look into that.
re: dirty flashing. the only thing I can think of was the in-place upgrade of the official 4.3 upgrade which I flashed through ODIN. I did not wipe prior or after the upgrade.

This is an easy fix that worked for me.... I had a directory that duplicated itself, and two more that wouldn't even show in the gallery.
1. I had a couple of directories duplicate themselves when they were originally created in the emulated directory and I "moved" it to my SD card... then when viewed in gallery it showed two directories "both in SD card"..... all I did was copy this whole directory to a different location on the sd card "copy not move", then went back and deleted the original directory. Then took my copy and moved it back to my original location. Then when viewing gallery only one directory was visible "the right one".
Others recipes may work, but this one did for me...
2. Directories that were invisible were fixed simply by renaming the directory using ES explorer, go to gallery and confirm they now all show then go back in es explorer and rename back to what you had them before "if you wish".......
Now go into Gallery a second time and you should still see the directories with names back to original as you've named them. your fixed!
I think mine got messed up with I created a file called .nomedia inside the directory... while it did remove the directory from view in gallery "like it's supposed to do", when that file was deleted, the directory was still invisible.... Even after hard reboot, clearing system cache and partition cache....but the above fixed it
