Hey guys, I have a sprint samsung epic 4g, I was running the stock froyo on it, and tried to update it to gingerbread through odin3, During the process my micro usb cable became unplugged and I can now only see a picture of a phone with an exclamation point in the middle of a yellow triangle and then a computer. I can get it to flash into clockwork recovery mod, but nothing seems to work there.... Can anyone give me any information on what that picture means? I think it is a softbrick, but since I am a noob I am unsure... Any help at all is appreciated. I would love to pay you guys for useful information that unbricks my phone.
have you tryed this ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
I've seen it...I reodined and everything was fine. I remember seeing a thread a while back about it

in to beat dead horse..
this happened to me when i tried to go from EB13 Viper ROM to the ACS 1.2 Frozen to ODIN to EC05.
this was just a week after i started messing with flashing ROMS. I freaked out and thought my phone was Toast. I ODIN'd back to EB13, got a new EC05 .tar and life was good
LOLs
Yeah, If only I could think clearly when I thought my phone was bricked.... hahaha... I started freaking out. Thanks again everyone
So after over a year of flashing, i think i bricked my phone. I cant get into download mode. Now is my second to last option is to leave the battery out for a few hours? Last option of course..sprint but i would try to try everything out first?? Thanks in advance...
Yep leave the battery out for a bit... take the sd card out also... after a bit plug your phone into the cpu with odin up and running (with the battery out) and hold down 1 and power... now slide the battery in and out continuously until you get into download mode... hope you get it...

I was in the same boat until a few minutes ago.
For me the trick was plugging to USB cable into the back ports of my desktop PC. I had tried different ports in my laptop, the front ports of my desktop, and the battery-in-battery-out thing. I also did break down and get a cable from Radio Shack. I thought I could cheat with a powered USB hub.
Now I am back to stock EC05 Froyo. Only trick is finding a place to download an EI22 or EL30 rom now that all the mega-upload sites have been taken down.
Many thanks for all the suggestions. I almost bought an Epic Touch -- which I really don't want.
I dread the day i upgrade too...im thinking touch or the nexus that sprint is getting in march i heard. The funny thing is after i unbricked my phone..i manually upgraded to el30..rooted my phone..and stopped..im actually enjoying the stock experience lol..i guess since i havent played with it in over a year...the battery life and signal is actually pretty good..i went 13 hours with 82 percent left...impressive. I love where android is going!! I do miss CM7 doe

I need help, really.
So here I am, buying an Epic 4G with bad esn from Ebay, i don't care about the Bad esn, I live in Mexico, so not a single **** given, I flashed it to Iusacell, the CDMA carrier here in Mexico.
It was working very well, it had voice and data and it was OK, i had no problems with the OS.
Then, the damn day that a dude was going to buy it from me, THE !"#!" DAMN PHONE DOESN'T TURN ON!!!!
It was stucked in the "Samsung" screen, and sometimes it came trough that just to freeze on the Galaxy S screen, just once it barely turned on and showed the Unlock screen, but when i unlocked it, it rebooted ¬¬
I'm a bad-lucked-noob dudes.
As soon as I started reading I tried to flash a stock rom with Odin, but it didnt work.
Now I'm realizing that the problem is flashing the "modem.bin" image, i tried with both Odin and Heimdall and nothing worked, several sotck roms, several modems, nothing worked, IT ALLWAYS STOPS AFTER DOWNLOADING THE MODEM AT 100% AND FAILS TO UPLOAD.
Heres what Heimdall says:
ERROR: Failed to confirm end of file transfer sequence!
MODEM upload failed!
And its the same every damn time :/
Please help me, I'm so about to throw it to the floor
Thank you!
What cable? Could be a crap cable and data transfer issues. Also could be the phone is corrupt... I remember reading about somebody having to return their phone cuz it kept getting stuck on the modem.bin and it was a faulty phone.

I tried with both a generic USB cable, (yes, a crappy cheap one) and also with a original HTC cable, doesn't worked on any of them.
Tell me it's not the phone, please, that would mean loosing money, isn't there another way to flash like everything?, like a master delete or i dont know, Im not familiar with Samsung devices.

I'll try the video tonight, and im also trying to get a Blackberry cable.
I'm not really shure about the tar that I'm using, as I told I'm not very familiar with the Samsung devices, but I think its like a E30 and ive seen also a F09 or something like that, I downloaded everything related that I saw.
Ok, my question is: I know the cable could cause some problems, But, Is it possible that it ALLWAYS crashes in the same exact operation?
Yes it is possible. You could also have a damaged modem area in your ROM. Try to look for the EC05 tar and try that.

Try with version 1.3.1 of Heimdall rather than 1.3.2.
If the problem persists it might be worth repartitioning (if you're not already).

With Odin you check Repartition. I'm not sure on the specifics but my guess is it resets your partition table on the phone.

Use Odin
Place the phone into download mode.
Plug it in and ensure there is a yellow box with COM# (doesn't matter what number)
Put the victoryxxxx.pit in the PIT section of Odin
Place the EC05 or which ever TAR in the PDA slot of Odin
Make sure only auto-reboot is checked and hit start.
Should take around 3 minutes or so. Factory.fs takes the longest usually so expect it to slowly load on that part.
If you would like.. i can remote control your computer with Teamviewer and ensure you get things done correctly .
If you do install teamviewer Private message me the ID and Password.

Kinda new to the xda still trying to figure out rules. Kudos to the synergy guys tried a couple different roms and I'm addicted to this rom and is features. Just flanged the r484 and am support happy the mms issue wad fixed. Multi Window flawless. No problems with cameras. The only thing I have had issues with is reception 4g/3g. It seemed more stable with r433. Using ziggy and used custom install with pre selected synergy recs. If this post is on the wrong spot mod please fix. If someone has an answer for me greatly appreciated

Have you tried changing your modem ? Or going to a different ROM and updating prl and profile ?
http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb374/TexasEpic/ThePeoplesROM-KennyGlass123/daniel4653.png
Changing modem? Haven't heard that one yet. If you could elaborate on that one that would help. As for prl and profile I'll try that but I didn't have the issue with the previous build. Should I just try flashing stock and update? Then reflash. My area hasn't changed. Stock and previous r434 build I had very constant and strong 4g everywhere. With the r484 it can't make up its mind between 3g/4g. Thanks Daniel for the info

You change your modem through Odin. Been a while since I've done it (on HTC for a while there when my Epic broke it's charge port) but as I recall you put the phone in download mode, put them modem in the 'Phone' field after downloading it to your computer, and fire away. Do check the instructions first, I'm going off of memory from six months ago.... Some radios work better with some phones than others. Depends on your device.

I know right. I hate how the only way to root the newer HTC devices is by doing sketchy wire tricks.
Dunno about the ET4G, but my Epic was fairly easy to root. But the GS3 was much easier. My wife's Photon Q was about the same as the GS3.
I had an HTC but never played with it due to watching a friend ruin multiples of them. So I never attempted. Had my gs3 for three days before I rooted and started modding. For never doing this before and having mediocre comp skills this was fairly simple. Just want to make sure I cover my bases before doing something wrong.

hi all,
I didnt find any threads that answered my question well, so if its a repeat my apologies. I am running Blu Kuban 1.0.5.4, it runs nice and smooth, i love everything about it, but i dont know JACK about modems in this sense. In about phone it says my modem is FF18, which seems right from everything i HAVE read lol, but then the BK build # say FL24.
i have read that GB and ICS modems are interchangeable, but i have no knowledge of where to start or IF i should bother messing with it. i know i have to travel to downtown orlando to catch a 4g signal, and 3g kinda sux and i get almost nothing inside my apt, and wifi is alot lower than i expected given i run a full dual-band DDWRT gigabit cat6 network.
so the crux of the question is the modem in the build number what it seems like? are the 2 conflicting or am i just misunderstanding al together lol and more, is there a better setup i can use, i know that tends to be phone specific but it seems like in general some prove to work well together and some dont.
thanks in advance for any/all help

FF18 is fine to run in BK FL24. Both are ICS. However, modems vary from phone to phone, location to location. I would try updating your modem to FL24, and after you reboot, update prl and profile, and see if that improves signal. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. But the short answer is no, the build is not conflicting with your modem, it's most likely the area you are in. Play around with other modems, see if it helps! Good luck

What method are you using to flash? Flashing modem shouldn't be causing all that

great inglihd
for the first one the FL24 i used the internal updater built into BK, but after that i switched to mobile odin bc i was afraid it was an updater issue...though my battery was a tad low but it was on the charger, and a straight wall charger too not a usb to my pc charger. ah well im not sweating it, like i said im mostly home anyway so having a kick ass rom thats rock solid is more important anyway lol
Not sure if you know but mobile Odin does not support the flashing of modems for the epic touch. It may look like it flashes but nothing happens. Either desktop Odin or recovery is the only way to flash a modem.

wow..no i didnt know that, some of the other boards hinted at it working through mobile odin and some said nothing at all, a friend however said it could so i took his advice...its possible he had the same thing where it looked like it flashed but didnt...it would explain the probs i had with the other modems lol

Read RWilco's comment in tutorial for flashing TAR and TAR.MD5 files, and it is a blanket statement regarding modems and Mobile Odin/Mobile Odin Pro (don't do it).

I don't believe this applies to GB and ICS modems. Let me check SXTP for confirmation.

I don't chance it flashing any modems. Everything else, sure. Modems, I use CWM exclusively.

with that in mind i will try using only cwm, and see if that makes a difference...thanks all for the help and the quick responses you guys all rock! im not a complete noob with flashing and such, but im not a pro either, i spent alot of time in IT and helpdesk, but now im back in school for programming, still only kinda towards the end of what would probably still be considered an apprentice level code monkey and while i some experience with linux/unix, in that realm i WOULD call myself a noob lol
ok so...i guess i have one more question, im running Blu Kuban, which uses a modified AGAT recovery...is it ok to flash a modem from that or should i just stick with desktop odin?

It's ok to flash from that. If it doesn't take, then try pc Odin. But like I said, I use CWM exclusively for modems.

Thank you for keeping us posted on your progress. Sprint/Boost/Virgin Mobile should just link to this forum in their communities for all tech support issues. It's faster, better info, and way friendlier. And wow it beats the heck out of going into their stores. I remember when Garwynn would post in the Sprint forum for the E4GT, and his input was far better than the Sprint monitors.
