are you using the google play Speedtest.net APP? you have the Dual Core Galaxy? What Modem you using. If you guys can test RIGHT NOW let me know your speeds in TORONTO
LOL.
The speed of your LTE is going to depend on a few things. Your signal strength, and current network traffic. It will vary throughout the day; the speed is only relative. Each phone that can support LTE will have, theoretically, the same speed range. The only difference will be where you are, how far from the network towers, etc.
If your phone is getting 19kbps, then it sounds like there's actually a problem. If your phone is rooted, flash back to stock touchwiz and double check. If there is still a problem, call to make sure that your account isn't throttled or something, and that there aren't any network issues locally.
Edit: I see you said you're getting 17mbps. Why is this a problem? That speed tells me that your network is working, but probably having traffic issues. 17mbps is not slow in any way, so why even complain.
Rogers rep? More like Apple rep.
Stock ICS on my S3
Lmao the first guy you talked to is tryin to sell iPhones. I just checked and there's nothing about that officially in any of the Rogers customer rep sheets. Realistic speeds are 15-25mb/sec.
That's strange. I'm on bell and have been able to reach 45 down at work.

I reckon you've been bamboozled by this representative. A few people on Rogers have refuted your claim. It seems like it could be something to do with your phone or your location.
If actual representatives are telling you you're being throttled to half speed all the time though, then you should seize this opportunity. Tell them you only want to pay half the price and threaten to switch to Bell or something.

Hey David Dee,
yup I can confirm, I clocked 64mbps DL.
Typically, I get around 15-25 in the areas I most go to.
But there are some good spots where I get between 40-60.
FOLKS...when testing with apps like speedtest.net, change servers and retest. Network congestion isn't just wireless user congestion, it's also the network path to the testing server....after the tower receives your signal.

Hey everyone, I recently got a new Android phone, Samsung galaxy s2x, it should have dual 4g capabilities. The speed isn't great compared to what others have been getting. I usually get around 3-4mbps, the Telus website says 7-14 should be attained...
My question is basically, in the wireless options, I can choose gsm, wcdma or both. Is wdcma considered hspa+ ?
I live in Montreal, where the Telus network should be fully developed. Highest speed I've got was 6mbps.
Anything wrong, or were my expectations too high when buying this phone?

Also, my girlfriend has an iPhone4 with Telus also, its often quicker than mine on the net...and its a 3g phone.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306045
there are some from Montreal they are getting great speed
the thing is with cell phones, it depends highly in your location and tower
also in Canada do not believe anything that says 4G it's all fake
our infrastructure is poor compared to the USA, at best we can only get good 3G speed even when you see 4G
even the Rogers LTE are no where near as good they also top out around 15 Mbps at its best, while the USA or other counterparts they get like 30 Mbps on LTE
So i'm stuck with slow speeds lol?
I kinda regret going with Telus, they have terrible reception as well as slow speeds...

I think you are just not tech savy enough to use a cell like the S2X. Try doing a speed test in your browser and you will see that the speed test.net app is crap. I get 21 mbps downlink on telus in mtl using speedtest.net in dolphin HD (using app I get 3-10mbps). Stop blaming the carriers. People like you are just never happy but its your own fault! Maybe also if you would test your phone outside your basement it would help! Mtl reception is flawless, actually reception in QC in general is great.
I have tried all the different modems from the kj3, vk1 and even the Blaze LB7 and different roms and I still get miserable speed on my phone. I have many friends with different phones even 3G phones that are doing alot better. I am getting speeds of less than 300 k downlaod with with full bars.

I think some people had similar problems as you. I don't remember exactly but some workarounds are using the supercharger script and running those 3g scripts or whatever it's called.
Someone if i recall correctly couldn't get fast data at all, he opted for a warranty exchange and that fixed it for him.
If anything you could try making your own thread in the Q&A area and maybe those people who had similar problems can answer it for you. Obviously it's not because of your location because your friends' phones get fast speed in the same location
Hey everyone,
What kind of data speeds are you getting on HSPA+ with your Galaxy Nexus? For some reason mine won't hit more than 3mbps, even though my old G2 can. I know I've seen people hit much higher than that on their Nexii. At this point I'm wondering if there's problem with my phone or if I'm overreacting.
What have other people been seeing? Have your speeds been better or worse than your previous phone?
I had a G2 previously on T-Mobile, and my HSPA+ speeds are about 50%-75% faster overall on my GNexus (ie 5mbps/2mbps on G2, 8mbps/4mbps on GN).
There are huge threads on this already though, with people specificially reporting T-Mobile speeds in different areas.

Interesting... Sounds like I need to track down those threads and read up then. I just thought it was weird that I always seem to cap at 3.
I'm Galaxy Nexus has very unimpressive speeds on T-Mobile too.
Most of the time I'm around 2-3Mbps. Once in a while it does reach up to 6MBps, but that's more the exception. Most of the time it's no faster than my Vibrant 3G. Except the Galaxy Nexus also has latency about twice as high, about 150-200ms (when it's not getting 1600-1800ms from the 3G to H flip).
Here's the other thread on the subject. Seems we are not alone.

Man, 2.5mbps in San Fran is abysmal compared to what I was getting when I was out there last October. I was pulling 8 down and 2 up consistently on my G2.
I flashed UGKL1 and the results are slightly better than XXKK6, but nothing noticeable (hit 3.04 instead of 3.00). At home I was hitting 1.5 to 2, where I could only pull down 0.5mbps in the past.
I also tried flashing XXKL1, which was beyond terrible (0.09mbps up, 0.04 down). I also tried UGKK7, which was also unusable pulling down only 0.40mbps and 0.20 up.
So, I'm back on UGKL1 for now. I'm going to bring my G2 to work tomorrow and see how it fairs as well.
Additionally, I'm using the same SIM card that came with my G2 in the Nexus; could that be a problem? I know for the G2 it was imperative that I upgraded since my old sim was 4 years old. Have things changed enough in the last year and a half that my SIM could be restricting this phone?
Connectivity for me with my Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile is horrendous. I've looked at maps loading for at least 2 minutes or more. High ping, timing out. etc.
Anyone have a good radio update that works well for them? It's especially bad when moving. I don't have problems with my Galaxy S 4G or Galaxy S II (which is dual cell so the radio works a bit differently)
no offense against anyone on T-mobile but this thread is dissapointing in that it seems T-Mobile will never be a option for me (and I was thinking about trying them vs. ATT) on ATT with the Nexus i average 8-12Mb what you guys are getting are about what i got on my old IPhone 3gs on ATT's 'basic 3g' service.

The 3GS isn't capable of full 7.2Mbps speeds due to no HSUPA so of course they enjoy their AT&T.

I'm disappointed with the 3G speeds I get on T-Mobile, my Galaxy Nexus gets even slightly slower results than my 18 month old Vibrant 3G on Speedtest.
But I just got T-Mobile's $30 a month plan with 5GB of data. Which sure beats the AT&T plan with 3GB of data for about $60 (including the employer discount). So I guess I'll tolerate the slower speeds for the lower price.

I'm surprised there isn't more chatter about Sprint's LTE plans on this forum. I think the success or failure of the NV program will make or break this phone, and Sprint itself. For sure it affects my own decisions about both. The timing will be critical.
p.s. I second the recommendation about the s4gru.com site. It is must reading for anyone who cares about the Sprint rollout, and who wants to make an informed choice. There is also a deep font of knowledge there about RF stuff.

I agree 100%. The rollout of NV & LTE is the crux of Sprint as a network thus far. Def going to be a make or break time for Sprint in the next few quarters, especially with regard to timing. They need to make a significant impact, and soon.

Have you looked at the ping differences?
Just curious what some of you Rogers users ( and some other lte users on other carriers in Canada) are getting for your LTE throughputs on your S3's?
Rogers used to pretty poor at first launch but I must say that now they have vastly improved and I'm now averaging 30-45mbps in the GTA with peaks in the mid 50's!
Very happy about it..now I just wish they would expand their coverage for lte just a bit cuz it ends two blocks from my new house!
Post your speed test results if u like.

I'm with bell on a GSIII and my girlfriend is with Rogers on HTC One X. I get a maximum of about 25mbps and she got around 30mbps last night. Indoors we typically only get HSPA+, LTE is mostly outside or in the car. We live along the Lake Shore, east of Park Lawn.
I usually get 40+mbs at the minimum. Very happy with a 6 gb plan

Yeah, I'm hoping they expand the network quickly, I don't get any coverage where I am (approx. 2h north of the GTA). Though it does help my battery life
I'm pulling about 7mb/s with HSPA+
Im on Bell and generally hit 25-30 down around the gta... have hit high 40s a few times...
I'm in Vancouver and the speed is quite amazing as I got 45ish Mbps at home. 25-30 Mbps at office or at the restaurants.
It outruns my home network by almost 3 times.......
I'm on telus in toronto and getting 50+ as well on LTE and 40-50 on hspa+ (which i prefer)

Is Telus using Bell's LTE's towers or do they have their own?

In Toronto I have been averaging around 25mbps on LTE. My fastest so far has been 49mbps. I can't believe how many of you are consistently getting over 40mbps with speeds breaking 50mbps! I guess Rogers has already achieved some congestion in TO.
Yeah exactly what I'm thinking. I've tried rolling back to stock ROM (from CM 10) to see if that would improve the speed, but no affect.
Not that it affects anything I do on a daily basis, but it's still annoying

Good point! We are comparing speed results that make no difference to how one's device functions (unless one is heavy downloading on the network). I try to download very large files through WiFi only to conserve my previous data.
But yeah, good speed test numbers are cool.

wow, you can get 40ish Mbps on HSPA+ on telus???? I didn't know they are that good??? isn't the theoretical max speed on HSPA 42Mbps???
In Calgary I get on average 16 down, and 4 up. It was only recently lauched here so assuming it will get better (not complaing, this is SO fast). It's better than our old Optik with Telus on a wired computer, lol.
Was using Stock when I did last speedtest.
Using ROGERS Wireless
I'm in Richmond Hill area.. My LTE connection is not exactly stable, sometimes it would just jump back to 3G...
On LTE get around 25-40 mbps down, and 5-10 mbps up
Once it goes back to HSPA, I get around 5-8 mbps (this is pretty slow)...
I too got the $30 6GB plan promo a few weeks ago.. ^_^

Telus rents physical space on bell towers but uses their own equipment ( microwave drums, fibre to the tower etc)

Here's my result from Gatineau, Qc. Masson area.
From the bottom, Wifi, Lte, Hspa, Wifi, Lte. On Lte I had only 4 bars.
Here's in Mbps:
From bottom, Lte, H+, H+ only and Wifi

Weird since our phone only has 21mbps hspa modem. Screen shots to show those kind of speeds on hspa? Seems kind of impossible to me. No offense. Normally you see 40-50 on LTE. I'm thinking you meant 4-5mbps on hspa+
