I just found out our "sprint sgs3" phones can browse the internet/apps/sync and download while "talking on the phone"-while on 3g(wifi off), im sure it works while on 4g lte too, but I dont have 4g lte in my area yet so cant tell..

I noticed this as well and I have taken advantage a few times already. Comes in handy when I am on the phone in the car and I also need to fire up Navigation to get somewhere. That would not work on the Evo 4G unless I was connected to Wimax.

I don't think car + phone + INTERNET would be a very good idea..
But yes, it's a nice thing to have .
Yep this also works on the EvoLTE... But this doesn't work on the new Note2.. Another reason to stay with the GS3

A little late to the party. It's called SVDO, which allows devices with CDMA radios to simultaneously use voice and data.
My understanding is that only the S3 and EVO LTE have the radios capable of doing this, whereas the Nexus LTE may not.
Gs3 and the Evo LTE has two radios antennas. One for voice & one for data. So I've heard. Let me know if I'm wrong tho

Its not a feature that only Sprint has. AT&T's network has allowed it for awhile. The Verizon version of the GS3 probably can do the same thing.

It's because they don't support SVDO on all towers and during high volumes, data is less prioritized so you may only get voice.

LMAO I wouldn't be surprised. I don't even bother going into their store to ask questions. Only to look at phones and when I'm approached by someone I tell them I'm fine because 99% of what they say is misinformation or flat out ridiculous. Last time I went I overheard one of the guys telling this lady who obviously knew nothing about phones that she should go with the Epic Touch 4G because the Galaxy Nexus "wasn't that good." Really? It was hard holding my tongue at that moment. Anyways sorry to get a little off topic but just had to let it out.

Not to be Mr obvious but the real world reason you may be use this while driving legal and safely would be if you had your gs3 mounted on your dash using Google nav and then your phone rings and you answer it on your Bluetooth.... All while Google nav never loosing its map data connection.

Actually, the Evo 4G LTE did SVDO before the S3. And I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure there were other SVDO-capable phones before the Evo.
My Galaxy Attain from metropcs can talk and browse at the same time and I got that phone over 8 months ago I'm sure there are a few phones that can do this

More realistically if enough ppl complained maybe we can get sprint to give us a free upgrade to an LTE device
By the time LTE actually comes to your area, you'll probably be eligible for an upgrade anyway.
And why would you get a free upgrade? It's not like the WiMAX service is being shut down or anything.
There are theories, but nothing confirmed yet.

I called Sprint when the news that they were ending WiMax came out and they said that if I did not have 4G in my area they would allow me an earlier upgrade to an LTE phone with no penalties.
I had to push them for a while and escalate and bedazzle them with logic, but it worked.
But it was all for nothing since my phone will be put up for sale May 7th.

Precessors have nothing to do with it. The problem is with the antennas. We simply do not have the hardware for lte.

We as in ACS. We were in touch with a reliable source that I'd prefer not to name the origin of.
A few things...
LTE and WIMAX do require 2 different radios so if you wanted your device to switch between them it would have to have both radios built in.
Wimax is not going away anytime soon because we announced a new hotspot device which houses all of our radios aka "quadband".
Just a question; Why is complaining ever a solution? Technology moves like water. You jump in knowing that there is newer and better just up stream of you. Retail some how gives people a sence of entitlment which baffles me. You buy a car, do you complain the next year and say "well now there is a 2013 modle with x,y,z in it so I should get it for free".... just silly, baby town frolics even.

I kinda agree with what you're saying... I think what people are having an issue with is that they are stuck in contract with a non-lte phone. If you had to pay 5 times for that newer model car than what a new customer would pay, I bet you would be pretty upset too. I just hope my upgrade timing plays out perfectly to when lte is coming to chicago. That would be awesome.
On that meeting they had about network vision they did say about making lte work under Wimax or something like that I may be wrong thoe

Quite a bit.
Sprint isn't just rolling out LTE. LTE users are on a different network, or will be in the near future, called eHRPD. When it goes down, 3G goes away. It doesn't matter if LTE is in your area or not. Non LTE devices will not be affected by eHRPD outages.
This is not an optional thing. eHRPD is required for more seamless switching and will be used by any CDMA/LTE device. Sprint may have not rolled it out yet, but they will. Chances are, they already have. In the event you don't believe me, take a look at the apn list from the latest FD02 release:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2056318/apns-conf.xml
Lots of eHRPD entries in there.
I am not saying this is the cause of your issues, but it is a pain on Verizon, and causes similar issues for us.
So I was in a tmobile store today and was told that both the note II and Gs3 will receive a software patch to enable the lte radio. Asked the question like 10 different ways as I've read online that the gs3 will NOT be let cab able.
the internal phone workings are a little above my head...but i was told that the tmobile sg3 is the same as say the att model which does have the lte radio,
So, does that sound right that the SG3 is future proof and will be able to enable LTE?

Its been a while so I dont remember the details, but I am convinced that

2. It doesn't really matter. By the time the majority of us get LTE in our market, we will have moved on to an even better phone! Also, most of us will get hspa+42 soon which for now is more than sufficient for almost everyones needs.

I agree with Doc, we'll probably be on better phones by the time we have decent LTE reception -- and I'm happy enough with the DC-HSPA+ modem.
IMHO, they will likely release a Galaxy S3 [4G] LTE as an interm between the S3 and the S4. WRT LTE, all I know is what I see on Wikipedia's snapdragon article. Which isn't very clear on details. Also numerous MSM8960 phones /w LTE exist but do we even know if it's on die, let along bothering to crack open an AT&T and T-Mobile GS3 for a little hardware compare?

Maybe I am the only one. LTE is not very efficient. I am happy with 3g+++.Tmo 3g super sized is a very good system. My company provided LTE hot spot sucks bandwidth like no other. Be careful what you ask for.
I have not had 4g working on my Epic at all unless I was all the way on the other side of town. Now I know for a fact that LTE is not in my area but for the hell of it I activated my old LG Viper LTE and what do you know, I have constant 16 meg download on 4g. This Network Vision thing Sprint has been talking about is real. Lots of new LTE towers up recently all over the country. And no there is no 4g roaming between carriers.
4g LTE roaming is not possible between any of the carriers.
ATT LTE uses low 700mhz block & in the future, some AWS and WCS.
Vz LTE uses upper 700mhz block & in the future, AWS.
T-mobile LTE is AWS
Sprint LTE is PCS 1900/ SMR 800 / BRS-EBS 2.5/2.6ghz

Can I use another 4G LTE provider on the Galaxy Note II from Sprint?
I have Boost Mobile and I had a Galaxy S2 with Clear.com 4G WiMax. I now can only get 3G, and as you ALL know the 3G speed has lowered quite a bit. (200~400k vs 700~900k 3 years ago)
Another alternative I guess would be to get a Hotspot, but who wants to carry around a phone AND a hotspot when you can have them both on the phone?
I believe you can use this device on any network that is actually using Sprint towers, like MetroPCS (?) or Boost?
There are threads somewhere for instructions on flashing this.
(i'm also talking out my ass, because I have only noticed these threads in passing, never actually researched this. But I bet if you Searched a bit, you'd find the info.)

Thanks for the info but that's not what I meant. I mean the 4G service, not the voice, talk, text and 3G. I have that already. (that's what the thread under this one does, help you program the Note 2 on Boost, I already did that part. I meant the 4G LTE, i.e. connecting it on Verizon's LTE or T-Mobile's (MetroPCS is now part of T-Mobile I believe?) Heck, even a Sprint LTE account if they allowed it by itself with no talk/text service would be nice.

Impossible to do first off you need to understand how technology and radios work Tmobile is GSM. Sprint and verizon are CDMA and you can only "roam" on 3g verizon with a prl that can get you kicked off, if you abuse it.

Ok, so maybe I do need to do some research. LTE is *not* like WiMax? It doesn't have separate "device" from the actual voice/text/3G radio?
LTE uses the same radio as the cellphone and 3G?

Ok thanks for the info. Any other carrier with the same frequencies as Sprint? (What frequencies does MetroPCS use?)

Ok, so maybe I do need to do some research. LTE is *not* like WiMax? It doesn't have separate "device" from the actual voice/text/3G radio?
LTE uses the same radio as the cellphone and 3G?

Ok, my fault. I assumed you knew these things.

right there, see. Metro actually uses Sprint towers (ie, Sprint services) ... So... Same frequency.

Are u a retard? Hmm my guess im right on spot with that one. Sprint can suck it. GSM is better and if you don't agree? Take a ticket and take a seat next to the idiots that are waiting for me to give a Fuk.

I give facts and argument you insult sprint... well of course you are right. who has ever heard of the "can suck it" argument ever loosing. that's how we explained to Hitler and the Japanese emperor that he had to surrender in WW2 "Mr Hitler can suck it" -pres trueman, "since I can suck it I have ordered my forces to surrender and suggested to the Japanese to do the same"-hitler (translated to English)
if you can't give facts to support your claim you can go head and get an iPhone on a gsm network since you are using the same arguments apple uses to ensnare its sheep -i mean- customers
either that or you are an at&t rep or fanboy trying to weakarm customers away from sprint. why you aren't targeting your biggest competitor Verizon is beyond me but take that stuff to T-Mobile customers they'll eat that up like they eat their "unlimited" throttled data
one bad experience in one city with one small period of data speed downturn does not a bad carrier make
oh and mods don't blame chuko (or me) for starting arguments. arguments are healthy and help shape perception

In all fairness, Sprint in Denver does suck... 3g speeds right now. 200 kbps and no lte. There are a few lte towers popping up. but not in the metro area. Person in the cube next to me has AT&T and hspa+ is 15mbps and lte 40mbps. Faster than the cable provider here!

Tmobile has 4G LTE in almost all of New York with some decent coverage in Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia and they're just starting.. So they actually do have real 4G lol
