Image dump of internal memory - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've been searching and reading and trying to figure out how to dump my internal memory (/storage/sdcard0) to an image file so I can try to run data recovery on it.
I somehow managed to lose all my folders/files when upgrading my ROM from Minco v4 to v5....however the internal memory shows ~940mb used but when I open it up, there's only ~260mb of files/folders.
If anyone can assist, it would be greatly appreciated as there are some important photos on there I would like to retrieve (and then setup Camera Uploader to Dropbox!)

Technical Question: Recovering a lost file byte-for-byte

Hi all,
My girlfriend has an XDA-II that - on a whim - decided to hard reset itself. (It has done this once before for me aswell.)
Most of the lost files are of no consequence because a backup is available. However, there is one Word document that we would like to recover that is not backed up. The device has not been used since the hard reset.
I presume that it is likely that the text contents of this Word file are likely to still be in tact somewhere in the RAM (i.e. the bytes are unlikely to have been overwritten just yet). I suppose then that it must be possible - at least theoretically - to obtain a dump of all the contents of the volatile RAM memory (perhaps writing out the contents of RAM to a PC hard drive in one dump).
With this resulting RAM dump I could then search it for words that we know are definitely in the file to obtain most of the text back again.
I was wondering if anyone knows of any program for the XDA-II (or PC) that will copy the ENTIRE contents of all device RAM - byte-for-byte - to the PC.
Failing this, can anyone suggest any way whatsoever to view/copy RAM contents byte-for-byte?
Many Thanks,
Rob
you can undelete media like hd's magnetic storage and flash
because they dont fill in 0's in the bits when they delete they just free up the storage and overwrite the data next time data is saved
ram however goes 100% blank when power is not supplied
so ram cant be undeleted and data cant be recovered from it
which is why newer devices with 2005 place data in flash and not in ram
so their device dont goes blank when a hardreset or dead batt happens
Thanks
Not the feedback I was hoping to get! But thankyou very much all the same for letting me know.
Cheers.

[Q] Free space after flashing new rom

Hello everyone,
I've been trying several different roms and I found my free space dropped to 1.7 gb on the internal memory. Is there any way to make sure I get the original free space back? Like formatting the partition and flashing a Rom or something like that? I've tried wiping caches and such, but I still think I've lost like 3gb out of nowhere. Although I would like to know what the average free storage space is first.
Please help a total noob!
Thanx
I assume you haven't deleted the old roms off your phone?
If you plug it in via usb you can view the storage that way (in mac [android file transfer]/linux/win). Just delete any roms you're not using etc.
It seems that you need to erase your storage to get it back. When flashing rom we didn't do storage format, files and folder from old rom remain there. This folder could be your content like music and pictures, also some remaining app folder
If you use a Linux computer to delete files on your sdcard then check your sdcard for a .Trash directory (the name might be different, like .Trash-1000). Even though you thought you deleted some files they just got moved to .Trash and are still there taking up space. If you delete the .Trash directory it will really get rid of those files and give you more space.

You're totally right. I just deleted some old files from games I don't even have like FIFA.

[help] how to recover damaged pictures

when i'm moving the Pictures, my Phone SDcard also full, and my phone was Lagging in couples minutes.
and after that, i saw in my Gallery the moved picture in my phone SDcard was not displayed, and there are error message "Load Failed". i cannot open the picture files in any File Explorer apps, and in my PC as well.
there are 16 pictures damaged in this case, and untill now i dont know how to recover it.
i have search alot information, but no one help me.
please anyone, if you know how to fix this problem, tell me..
i need your help, please,,,
is there anyone have same problem with me?
is there any solution?
please....
If the pictures were originally on your external SD card then you can run a data recovery app against it and if you haven't added any new files to the card since you did the deletion there's a pretty high chance they're still sitting there. Data is never deleted directly it's just marked as deleted (essentially) and then later files added to the card will overwrite any older data over time. I've never had to do this myself but Googling for free image recovery turns up quite a few results.

[q] need help! Internal storage taken up but cant see my files!

Was told to update my rom a few days back and for some reason got a message that the Device ID was trying to change so i clicked KEEP SAME ID but for some reason now my internal storage shows all the same free space i had but NONE of my files are viewable. I go into the storage file viewer and its like its just with the new folders for a fresh system yet theres still only my 1.5gb free as before. I ran a rescan of all my media with NO luck. This is ridiculous. Any way to check if my device id changed and perhaps that's why my data is not viewable? please help asap

[HOW TO] Recover deleted files from Internal Memory

Recovery Procedure below after my short story
===========================================
Hi Guys,
Just wanted to share my experience in recovering folder from internal memory of Hercules SGH-T989D.
I backed up WhatsApp folder to my computer however, it did not copy and I did not bother checking [my mistake]. I kept flashing nightly and formatted it 5 to 6 times.
Once I was done flashing the new ROM I noticed that WhatsApp folder was empty and wanted to recover it. I tried Undelete app but that did not return anything I tried DiskDigger returned pictures which I didn't need as Google Photo+ already backed it up for me. ( You guys should set up auto backup as well very good feature )
So I searched online and found ASoftTech Android Internal Memory Recovery post which was awesome. However, it lacked couple of things which made it difficult for me. It was mostly missing how to configure ADB.
I have listed the procedure which I followed and recovered my files I needed. I hope it helps someone else.

I am providing link to PDF to dropbox. I could not attach it as it was exceeding the attachment size limit. Hopefully someone can make a mirror to this file.
