All advertised/published WiFi speeds are theoretical, and possible under ideal conditions. 65 Mbps is far more than you need, unless of course you are on a WiFi network that has a back end that can supply more than 65Mbps.

I think you're on 2.4 WiFi n and not 5 GHz WiFi n which would give you the higher speeds.

I own a Netgear N900 router capable of 450mbps on both 2.4 and 5GHz bands. My Nexus also maxes out at 65mbps.

Because the gnex only have 1 antenna for WiFi. Need 2 for 150Mbps.

My phone is faster than my optimum connection at home with just two bars!

That is actually slow for NYC. Verizon has just bathed NYC in massive speed vs. a lot of places.
Quite a few Thunderbolt users posted 60 down speedtests.

Wireless signal strength

Hi folks
Signal strength of my GN compared to my laptop is bad. Laptop and gn positioned near each other and connected to same wireless network.
Any suggestions?

It will never be the same, the laptop has more power to draw on for the Wi-Fi radio so has better signal. Bigger antenna too probably.

T-Mobile HSDPA OR HSPA+ ?

Which one am I supposed
to be on ? My "about phone " info shows HSDPA
I get DL speeds of ~5Mbps
Aren't HSPA + speeds supposed to be higher ?
BTW don't flame. The search feature on tapatalk sucks.

On ICS, when you're on HSPA+ it identified in "about phone" as HSDPA or HSPAP.
On (stock) Jelly Bean, it'll properly identify as HSPA+ in the "about phone" screen.
Regardless, the speeds are the same, it just reports it slightly differently. And it looks like you're running some weird custom ROM, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was reporting it differently than stock Jelly Bean.

I really thought hspa + had higher DL speeds Than that.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
That's HSPA..
HSPA+ will register as HSPA+ or HSPAP(the extra P is trying to say Plus, just figured it out)
the phone will only get up 21mbps hspda and not the 42 mbps.
First thing to be sure if that you are talking about mbps or MB/s. If it is MBs, then I think it's pretty good speed.

I've seen some scores in the 15 Mbps range

It also mainly depends on where you live I only get 2.4 MB/s at night and 0.7 MB/s down during the day

I'd say that's about average for tmo. I've gotten faster before but now I just use the phone and try not to worry about it. Tmo speeds are much better than at&t in my area.
with my one s, I have seen it got around 4 Mbps to 8 Mbps (that is with DC 42Mbps) with 2 bars. On a good day with good signal I think it can get to around 15 Mbps but I think normally it hovers around 10ish. So I think your number is fine.

The One S is a 42mbps device, so the speeds are gonna be higher than the GNex, which is a 21mbps device.

Doesnt that only apply to speeds above 21 Mbps?

No, it means that speeds will be generally higher assuming that the towers you're connecting to are 42mbps HSPA+ compatible.

Can't be, we only have 21 Mbps HSPA+. It doesn't even look like a Nexus (no on-screen buttons, status bar looks like Gingerbread?)

If you look at the battery indicator, yeh. But not apparent from the signal bars.

[Q] TPR connecting to wireless N problem

I recently moved to TPR to try and get better battery life. I had been on CM9. My phone will not connect to my 802.11n router(non 5 ghz frequency). However, it will connect to my 802.11g connection just fine. I had thought it connected to either one previously, but I could be wrong. It has been so long since I first set up my phone that I can't be remember. Is this expected, or did I find a bug? From looking, it seems the Epic should support N, just not the 5ghz version.
It does support n connections and both my Epics show it is connected as N. Did you try resetting your router? Had that problem with an old Netgear...tossed it for a Cisco and all good.

Thanks for the quick reply Kenny. I gave that a shot and no dice. It must be me. I can keep using my G connection. I've got the signal strength boosted a little on that guy anyway.
Do you have the router set to make 300 Mbs connections?

i haven't had time to flash my ASUS router to ddwrt yet. And I've not bothered digging through all of the limited settings yet, but I can take a peek. Not sure what all capabilities it has.

Gnex and 5ghz WiFi

Can anyone confirm the gnex will run on 5ghz WiFi? I'm researching upgrading my router and want to make sure all my devices will run smoothly. A quick google search says yes but on limited channels.
yes...works here with channel 36 at an avm router

Works fine. Certain places in uni I pick up 5 GHz WiFi networks and the GNex connects just fine.
