Phone Keeps Restarting - Samsung Captivate Glide

So my phone just decides to keep restarting itself. I was running LiteRom 0.6 and it did it, and now I'm running CM10 with LiteKernel 2.0 and it's still doing it. It's only been happening for a few hours.
Also, wheen I'd hit the power button to put the screen to sleep, sometimes it wouldn't work. It would just give me the power menu, despite the fact that I just tapped the button.
My phone was dropped in water, but rice cured it. I'm thinking that must be a factor, right?
But anyways, what do I do?

Again, nevermind. It wouldn't even turn on so I made an insurance claim. Hopefully the phone will be here by the weekend, but Hurricane Sandy could easily change that. Does anybody know how to unroot and flash stock?

use supersu to unroot and then flash stock...with a stock rom and gapps

[Q] Help needed for fixing quirky/malfunctioning software!

Hi folks, I've lurked here for quite a while and gotten some invaluable info; so first off thanks for all of the contributions from the gurus here!
Now, I have a pretty strange issue that I haven't been able to find an answer on anywhere. I'm hoping that someone can help me sort this.
The background story:
My wife has a MyTouch 3G Slide that I bought for her back in July. Last week she managed to drop it in some water. It DID NOT get fully submerged since the water was very shallow. However, it did get a slight amount of intrusion. She pulled the battery in a relatively quick amount of time and we let it sit in a bowl of rice to dry out for a couple days.
The current deal:
When I felt the phone was sufficiently dried after a few days, I fired it up. It took a very long time to get out of the MyTouch splash screen and loaded noticeably slower than normal. Once in, the phone functioned perfectly normal. Absolutely no issues at all with any functionality once you get past the security pattern.
However, whenever you put the phone to sleep, it does some funky stuff. The screen goes black for a second and then comes back on, ready for you to swipe down and then enter the security pattern again. Then it will go black again. Then it comes back on. It just continues to do this, never stopping. Sometimes it will go to the security pattern screen too.
So I figured this may have been some hardware issue since it was acting like someone was just repeatedly pressing the power button. First I wanted to try a simple reboot though. Upon rebooting, the phone would not get past the splash screen. It just froze there.
I pulled the phone apart to see if maybe there was some corrosion on the PCB from the water intrusion. Everything looked fine, but while I was in I did a little wipe-down with some alcohol, then I put it back together. After multiple attempts, I was able to get it to boot again. But the boot process was still VERY slow. Occasionally, it would boot into safe mode as well. But when it booted normally, everything would always function great once logged into the phone. This convinced me that it wasn't a hardware problem since the phone would not cut into sleep mode or anything when logged in. It worked perfectly fine. So I figured that maybe there was some sort of corruption that occurred in the software.
So I tried a hard reset. Didn't fix it.
Then I figured that maybe I needed to do a reflash. So I rooted the phone since the water plunge voided the warranty anyways. Once rooted, I flashed TeamFenix 1.7.1 successfully.
But the phone still only fully boots intermittently, and the boot process is still slow. It also has the same problem in sleep mode which is killing the battery fast since the screen is pretty much constantly on. But once in, the flashed ROM works perfectly just like the stock ROM.
Video of the condition:
Since I'm new, I'm not allowed to put any links in my post. But if you type in the string below after the YouTube url, you'll see a quick video I posted of the condition.
watch?v=dX55URtaRHo
So it seems that there is some crazy issue only upon bootup and when the phone is put to sleep. Can anything be done to fix this? Is there a way to locate and fix corrupted software? Any and all help is appreciated!
Sorry for the self bump. Any devs out there have any suggestions? I gotta get this thing sorted.
If its happening on both stock and teamfenix, I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue. Flashing a rom completely replaces the software, so it doesn't sound like its that.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
It actually seems like a problem in the power button. Did you check the contacts for the power button? Repeatedly pressing the power button will first lock it initially and dim the screen. Press again, then it gives you the chance to unlock. Press again and it goes back to sleep. Wash rinse repeat...
Yes, I understand. But if it were an issue with the power button, when you logged into the phone, it would randomly put itself to sleep. It doesn't do that, it functions perfectly normal with no errors whatsoever when you are logged into the phone. This problem is only exhibited in sleep mode which would rule out a hardware issue with the power button.

[Q] Phone won't turn on

Last night I had dropped my phone from about a foot on a sitting-swing and it hit the ground. I have the black case from the sprint store on it. After that I attempted to turn it on and it just got stuck on Samsung loading screen with the genocide 2.0 logo below it, it then proceeded to be stuck there and eventually rebooted, this never seemed to end. When I attempted to plug it in to charge it the battery charging icon appeared but just has the loading symbol inside of it frozen, after many battery pulls and attempted clockwork-recovery boots failing I decided to go to bed. When I awake I went and tried to turn on my phone which immediately booted up into clockwork recover, fearing for my phones safety I backed everything up on it and then rebooted it. It seemed to work fine! It came on flawlessly and worked well. Throughout the day the battery seemed to drain extremely fast and then eventually died, having just gotten home I have found that the same thing is happening and it won't even charge.
Re flash the ROM then flash journaling on zip right after you flash the ROM then re boot & download you're apps fresh cuz you're data might be corrupted! Hit the thanks button if I've helped in any way! ;-)

I flashed back to stock rom to see if it would turn on, same thing happens, and I don't know if this is significant or not but when my phone boots up the buttons light up, then turn off, then back on again and stay on until the phone reboots itself or the battery is pulled.
EDIT: I have a strong feeling it's my physical battery that is causing the issues because it was working completely fine earlier yesterday.
Try booting in safe mode by holding power and the physical menu button until the phone gets to the lockscreen... Im curious to see if it helps because safe mode might help us get out of soft bricks? I wanna test this theory...
No it does not work, just get stuck at the Samsung loading screen. I don't honestly believe this is a software brick either because of the way it's acting, as I said in my above post I believe it's the physical battery and will probably be going to get it replaced soon

why does zedomax keep my phone from staying off?

I rooted the phone using odin, then threw lost kernal on the phone. then used odin to flash the stock pulled kernel to eliminate the yellow triangle then used CWM to flash back to lost kernel. then went to zedomax V3. phone has been working very good. did freeze one time when opening a game and then restarted on its own after a few seconds but this is only once so far. I never knew about this problem until last night when i attempted to do a 100% charge with the phone off so I could reset batt stats. well, EVERYTIME I turn the phone off, it stayed off for a few seconds but then it would always turn itself back on... just flashed back to lost kernel (stable version) and it is now sitting powered off charging just like normal. I liked the OC ability but I will sometimes need my phone to stay off, say when I get on a plane...
anyone else have this problem
Same here I am running version V3 of Zedo, stock rooted.....and have the same issue the phone will not stay off. I have tried it both ways with QuickReboot and also manual with the power button and still have the same results. For me it is NBD but I have not been in a situation where I need to have the phone stay off.
I also tried it with quickreboot (not sure if I have the same app, blue circle with a yellow lightning bolt?). also, does your phone do this? when I shut down using the power button long press, choose power off and then hit ok, it shows the sprint logo with the exploding boxes looking screen, capacative buttons stay lit up for a while as its shutting down, quick reboot just SHUTS DOWN! lol, its like the difference of being on a PC and choosing shutdown or just flipping the switch on the back of the PSU. is it better to shut it down the stock method?
(side note- my palm pre power button started acting up so now I do what I can to use the epics power button as little as needed, which is why I have a screen icon to lock my phone and reboot with quick reboot)
yea we have the same quick reboot program....as for shutting it off which way, I think it is better to shut the phone down using the power button and have the phone go thru the shut down process vice just shutting down right there and then like a light switch. I do the same on a pc i try never to just hold the power button to shut down the pc unless it freezes, I just do the regular shut down process.
I flashed zedo v3 too and had problems too. At random moments i couldnt text, browse web, make calls or get calls unless i reboot. I unrooted it and phone went back to normal. Im sure zedomax will put out a better kernal, he knows wats up. Has anyone else had dat problem?
actually the not-staying-off was the only problem I even had on that kernel except the freeze that happened one time. today on lostkernel, right in a row I had 4 texts say they failed to be sent but then when I talked to the people later they all told me that they were actually delivered. I even rebooted the phone after the first 2 and the next 2 still said failed so I highly doubt that it was anything other than a weird problem with the network though... although I dont know exactly how the whole process works. I think I am going to go back to zedomax later though, I dont fly often so if I end up on a plane Ill just flash lostkernel again since I leave both files on the card on a daily basis. and I like the setcpu profiles. could always go with the experimantal build of lost kernel since technically the zedomax is a beta as well...

Power button not working suddenly

Last night while using my phone it suddenly rebooted itself, and when it came back on the power button no longer worked. I could use the volume buttons to wake the phone, but even that stopped working after a while. I went to sleep and let it charge overnight, and when I woke up, all was working normally. Its been normal all day until a few min ago, the phone rebooted and now once again the power button wont work. Anyone had this problem? Any suggestions, besides take it to Sprint, which I will do if it continues?
Well I took it to a Sprint store and the tech said the button is physically fine, and worked when doing a hard reset but once the phone came back on it went back to not working again. So he thinks it's a software issue and ordered me a replacement. And my E4GT is completely stock, never rooted. Just decided to let u guys know just in case anyone else happens to have the same problem.

If it is a software problem which it sounds like to me I would root that thing and throw a rom on there and see if that works. Preferably Phantom Hackers Blazer rom 4.1 Pure win!

My power button isn't working either. My phone randomly reboots and isn't usable. My buddy gave me his old Samsung Moment to use It's like I'm back in the stone age with this thing. No insurance on my E4GT either FML.

It's still under a year old isn't it? Take it in and spend the $35.00 for Sprint to troubleshoot and replace it under warranty.
I was having this issue with my e4gt so i tried to flash a new ROM onto it. That didn't work, so I restored it to factory using this one-click Odin method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721229
Since the power button didn't function for me I had to use Terminal Emulator to reboot into download mode. Restoring to factory seemed to have restored the power button. I had a few phantom reboots but the phone has been running for 13 hours right now. Seems to be fixed. I plan on waiting a week before rooting it again, in case i decide to take it to Sprint.
Hope this helps

I cant use the power button at all and whenever i take out my battery and put it back in, it automatically starts my phone up right when i put the battery in. but please let me know if urs is fine now. thanks
sh*t, nevermind i just tried to do the odin one click and it restored my factory settings and everything but the power button still doesnt work... =( damnit!!
ok nevermind that too... sorry for blowing up your post but just wanted to inform that i just applied more pressure to the power button and held it there for a few seconds and then let go and all of a sudden the power button started working again... i was reading through other posts about this and they said that it happens often with this phone... but this is how i ended up fixing mine if the odin one click doesnt work...

For those of you who don't have insurance, or those who this option is cheaper, they can replace the power button for $35. I didn't look if it includes shipping. If it were me, and I had a little more money, I'd get the power button and usb port changed to new ones at the same time. The port might go out eventually and it saves you the time and hassle of sending it in again. Hell, $75 is still cheaper than paying the $100 deductible if sprint tries to make you pay that for a refurb.
My phone started rebooting constantly since last week. I went back to the ICS 4.03 ROM and it was ok for a few days and then it starting rebooting again yesterday. Today once the phone screen goes off it comes back on and when i press the power button to turn the screen off, it restarts. The only time it acts normal is when it is charging. I do have insurance so I'm thinking about removing the superuser app and taking it to sprint. My question is will they try fixing it before giving me a replacement & will it be refurbished? I'm at wit's end with this phone. I loved this phone until last week

If you can go back to gingerbread(clean install) you should give that a try before you go back to sprint and find your self back at square one after flashing ics, replacement phone may have gb installed. Run some stock rooted gb for a while and see what happens.

I did that & it was ok for a few days then it started again...today it worked better than most days but the power button still wont turn the screen off if I press it
I have the same symptoms with mine, which started 2 days ago while out of town. The only difference being my power button goes from hyper-sensitive in that if I even brush my finger by it it closes the screen to not registering anything no matter how hard I click. Any way to tell via logs, etc if this is hardware or software? Phone is unuseable with the constant reboots...
Update
Had been running Calks 3.0 before the power button issue, so decided to start over to see if it helped:
1) Ran Calks Format All
2) Reflashed 3.0
3) Ran his Bare ROM Converter
Result: Problem disappeared, so far. Will report back if anything changes, but worth a complete reformat and reflash try since I am out of warranty as an original adopter 9/16/11.
this just happened to me while running cm10 alphas. power button wouldn't work at all and occasionally it would just reboot.
i full wiped and installed one of agat's mods. we'll see what happens.

Everything was perfect since the re-flash UNTIL I took a flight and the same problem with the power button started again. Whats funny is the last time the same thing happened. Chain of events:
1) Two weeks ago phone was perfect running Calks 3.0 GB ROM and had been for the last 3-4 months. Stock rooted for 5 months prior.
2) Went to airport, phone went thru security scanner and boarded plane.
3) Prior to departing, checked phone and noticed the power button didnt turn screen back on.
4) Pulled battery/ put back in, and the phone rebooted without me pressing the power button, which it never had previously.
5) Phone boots back up to lockscreen, and notice the power button is hyper-sensitive (If I lightly brush my finger against it, the "Power Off, Reset, Recovery...." screen pops up. Its like the power button has become a capacitance button like the four at the bottom face of the phone.
6) Try using, and it randomly reboots, even completely avoiding the right edge of the phone (power button side)
7) If phone screen is allowed to go dark, power button wont awaken it, but volume buttons sometimes will...Also, plugging/unplugging into charger will awaken screen. If I reboot the phone with it charging, it turns off and goes into charging mode with the green battery bar graph.
8) Struggled with the phone screen turning on/off, randomly rebooting with/without touching, turning, using, etc.
9) Arrived home and after many attempts, booted into Rogue Recovery, wiped/all format/reflashed Calks 3.0/Bare ROM converter and phone was just as it was before....Until 5 days later when I boarded another flight.......Why?

[Q] Help!!! Only on For seconds?

So today my phone started to power it's self off. When I power on it shows the kernel screen for a few secs then powers off. I can boot into Recovery (CWM) and when I select reboot it does the same. If if I boot in to Download Mode, it only stays on a few secs.
Is it the power button? Any ideas?
I'm running the BMS Kernel and C-Rom 6.6. I have had this same rom and kernel for weeks with no issues.

Interesting, I have not had any issue with the battery. I'll look into it. Any way to test without using another battery?
Anything else it could be?
Using CWM built in key test it seems it is the power button, when I touch the power key it reads as if it is being touched multiple times or heklod down. Any Fix without replacing the button?
Not that I know of I have only seen replacing it fixes it
Ive seen several people report that opening it up and jiggling the button can help, but when it does it is only temporary.

It's fairly easy to replace. You can buy a button off ebay for fairly cheap and look on YouTube to replace it.

I agree it sounds like a stuck power button. My experience with this problem first showed in a captivate of my moms. It was very bizarre tho. On stock ROM it would constantly do the vibrate, cycle, vibrate etc. On a custom ROM however, it has had zero problems with the power button. Maybe try that? Not a sure fire fix, just telling what happened with the Cappy. ☺
If this is power button problem you can try (what i did and worked, but it is your choice and you can damage your phone) drop little of oil in power button and press couple time with out battery in phone.

That's actually fairly dangerous for your device. I would suggest an air duster if you think it's dirty.
I'm actually having the same problem. It just started his morning.
The phone won't boot normally. I get the kernel boot screen, sometimes a Samsung screen, and then it turns off. 2-3 seconds max.
I can get it into download mode, but after 3-4 seconds, it spontaneously shuts off.
Recovery mode (CWM) is completely stable. I can get in, make back ups, perform a key test, etc. When I run a key test, it shows that the power button is a little sensitive, but not crazy. If I jiggle it some (mostly back a little) it registers a key press, even if I'm not fully pressing it. If I do press it fully, sometimes it doesn't register.
If this is really a button issue, why is recovery stable? Even if I put the phone on a flat surface with nothing that could touch the button, the phone still doesn't stay in download mode (it just shuts off.) When I put the phone in recovery, place it on a flat surface, and perform the key test, the phone isn't registering a key touch.
I've tried 3 different batteries, kept the phone plugged in, popped the battery and held the power button to discharge everything, wiped the cache, wiped dalvik cache, and used CWM touch to reboot (and avoid the power button all together.)
The only think I can think of that's maybe different is that gapps was FC'ing more than normal this morning (before the phone crapped out.)
I'm running StockMOD ROM 4.4.2 R2 with the Ktoonsez Kernel for TouchWiz 4.4.2.
EDIT: Also, when it's plugged in, the LED doesn't light up. I'm not sure that it's actually charging. I do have a wall charger, so I can verify that the batteries I'm using are charged.
Try flashing a different rom from recovery to see if it still happens. Also try a factory reset. If you get as close to stock as possible and it still happens it raises the probability thst its hardware.
If you put the battery in and wait a few moments does it turn on by itself?
Band-aid
@DocHoliday77 I messed with the phone a little later tonight and recovery became unstable. I'm convinced it's a power button problem now. I think the internal mechanism gets stuck and that's the issue.
When I put the battery in, the phone does try to boot by itself.
I used the advice in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53915864 and I was able to get up and running again. I opened the phone up, blew some compressed air on the button, tapped the flat side of the button lightly a few times with the end of my screwdriver, and put everything back together. I was able to get back into recovery, and then reboot normally.
I ordered a new power button and I plan on replacing it next week when it gets here, just to be on the safe side.
You guys at xda are life savers!
The booting up on its own after inserting the battery is a classic symptom of the power button going bad. Glad to hear you got it working for now, and that you are ordering a replacement. Everyone ive heard about getting it to work using any number of methods have always found it to only be a temporary solution.
Just a thought, in case it starts up again, maybe remove the plastic piece until you replace the switch. Hopefully that would help prevent it from getting accidentally pressed in your pocket or by bumping it into something. (You could probably still access it with a toothpick or something like that if needed)
I agree it's the power button. I just posted about my little experience on Google+
I tried seriously whacking it on the floor and everything. I wouldn't recommend that but I had no warranty and no funds for repair. Others had said that beating the crap out of it worked so I thought why not lol...
https://plus.google.com/116004961340303353216/posts/ig2ogLeUWJ8
Long story short, my beating it up didn't work but it did wake it up. It falling on the floor however, jarred whatever was stuck and it now works like a charm...good luck
