att galaxy s3 Liquid Smooth JB + KT747 Kernel? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello, i guess i couldnt post in the actual Kernel or ROM forum because im a new member...
I was wondering if anyone tried or uses the Liquid Smooth JB rom with the KT747 kernel? I was using the liquid smooth rom with the kernel it came with, but the cpu freq kept maxing out even if i set it lower or set on boot, which resulted in horrible battery life for me. Has anyone tried it with kt747? if so, hows battery life? also, does the kt747 have an option to keep it between the min/max and never exceed it?
thank you!

Why don't you just try it. If you don't like it dirty flash the rom again to get the original kernel back. The kernel I use for d2att is imoysens leankernel its the only thing I will ever use. By far the best battery life and stability out of any kernel I used. I have used close to everything. Try it out. Even tho it says it's for tmo its still safe to use.
Give it a try.

Do I just flash the kernel in cwm and then clear cache, dalvik cache and fix permissions and reboot?

i tried this out twice, unfortunately it resulted in a blank screen both times. It worked with another rom tho. Anyone know why it wont work with liquid?

I'm running Liquid JB RC5 with the ktoonsez 10/9/12 release. This has been a very stable combination. I have it at 1.6 ghz, cfq and on demand. I actually got 1 day and 12 hours on my last charge, but that was lower usage than normal with 9% battery left. Hope this helps.

[Q] Bad Battery Life on AOSP roms only

When I am running any sense rom 2.2 or 2.3 running sense 2 -3 my battery life is fine and last me through out the day but any single AOSP rom i flash CM7 7.1 Stable or any other veriation with stock or custom kernal my battery life sucks. I have a 3700 battery and ran CM7 with Tiamat 4.0.6 and i unplugged from a 100% charge and under a minute I watched it drop 3% I tried setting the govnor to save battery even though I wanted speed, I wanted to see if that would help and still no change. It seems I cant run any non-sense roms. What am I doing wrong? this has been driving me nuts for a few months now and i cant figure it out. please help!
i was just using decks 1.2 with tiamat 4.0.6 and battery life was awwwful. i would maybe try going back to like tiamat 3.3.7 or something where i was able to push 25+ hours on decks.
Try tiamat 3.3.7 SBC and vipermod scripts...I have a 2600mah battery and I get at least a day& a half..also try seidio batteries

The problem is not with the kernel Im using though. I don't think. On sense Im using the HDMwIn Kernel and it works great. But I can use the stock CM7 Kernel and still have crappy battery life. I have my stock battery still and that works fine too so I know its not my battery that is the issue.
The steps I have taken when running CM7:
RA Recovery
Wipe All
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Data
Wipe Boot
Wipe System
Wipe Android Secure
Wipe SDEXT
Wipe Battery Stats
Wipe Rotate
Wipe All (again)
Power Off and then Pull Battery
RA Recovery
Wipe All
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe All
Flash CM7.1
Reboot and fully load into OS
RA Recovery
Flash GAPPS
Reboot and fully load OS
Setup my system and played around for a bit. Made a call, and a few text and then started to customize the look. Saw that the battery was draining slightly fast.
RA Recovery
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Flash Tiamat 4.0.6
Reboot and load OS
CM Settings to set governor to Conservative
Installed SetCPU and set it for battery life
Went to sleep, woke up with 100% charge and within 1 minute it had dropped 3%.
I thought after it had drained a little maybe it would even out but after a half day at work I was down to 15% battery when I normally get to 40% after heavy use on my Sense rom.

I was running decks 1.3b with the older tiamat kernel suggested.
I went and did a nandroid and installed the synergy + godmode rom and it works great with battery life. I just want to figure out why any combo of AOSP rom I run just kills the battery.
I noticed that as well. I was Rom shopping a week ago and ran 4 different roms. 2 aosp, miui and cm7 then 2 sense, kingdom roms. On aosp, my battery would be dead after i got out of work after Pandora for 5 hours. I was running the newest tiamat. Sense leaves me with about 27% depending if I skip a lot of songs which is enough to get me home. I just flashed a new sense kernel, so definitely awaiting to see how battery life acts when I decide to Pandora up at work. Not sure why sense lasts longer than aosp, just adding my personal experience.

Thats almost just like whats going on with mine. I run Pandora all day at work with a few breaks for calls and what not. but with sense it last alot longer. i just flashed the synergy rls2 + godmode and the battery life and speed are pretty awesome. i could get anything close to that with a aosp rom. I would like to though. i have a really nice minimalistic looking theme that i did, but just cant justify running it for 5 hours and then having to charge my phone again.
1. Let it set in.
2. Use savaged Zen with setcpu at 806 and conservative
3. Use super charger script to cut out any lag
4. Use viper mod to get more battery life
5. use chainfire 3d to improve battery life and performance
6. Love me forever
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.

franco kernel sluggish or phone damaged?

Hi all,
Today I installed CWM and flashed franco's kernel for JB (the newest one). At first it seemed pretty fast so I was happy. I decided to install setcpu and set it to max 1,8 ghz with set on boot enabled (I know it was stupid, but I did not realize it at the time). After rebooting the phone froze and a purple layer appeared on top of my screen. Seconds later my phone rebooted. I set setcpu on 1,2 ghz max and let it stresstest for a couple of minutes. No errors were found. But now my phone lags sometimes, like if project butter just had disappeared and the normal android sluggishness has reappeared. Is this a kernelissue or did I damage my cpu with this stupid overclock? Btw, apart from the sluggishness in the animations I can run everything just fine.
I'm on Franco and have no problems. Why don't you try another kernel and let us know how it goes?

I understand people want to ask questions first, did you try to wipe and reflash?
At most I can probably assure you, you didn't damage your CPU.. there would probably be more dire issues if it was.
Did you flash a new kernel yet?

Not yet. Should I reflash franco or try another? Can I flash a new kernel over another kernel without wiping my whole device?

Yes, I've flashed 3-4 kernels on one ROM. You can dirty flash your ROM too or completely wipe and flash.
Either way its fine. I do suggest wiping and flashing though..

And should I uninstall SetCPU in order to get stock CPU speeds? And what issues would I have if I would have fried my SoC?

Setcpu is fine. In order to get stock, either use a new kernel or dirty flash.
Assuming.. if it was I'd guess the phone probably wouldn't be running?

You need to learn about what you're doing before you do it!
I flashed the trinity 1420-537 JB stable kernel, and everything works as smooth as it has to be. The strange thing is that it was a bit sluggish until I changed my wallpaper from a live to a normal one. Now I switched back and everything is still smooth :? . Anyway, does this kernel overclock the cpu itself or are the speeds in the name just the available range?

if I have such issues I will never flash an oc kernel to look if everthing is working. Install stock rom kernel back and try. If everything is fine......you can try an oc one.
On Trinity; first number is MAX CPU clock range you can chose and second number is fix GPU clock.....or just reading FAQ, Changelog etc. will answer your questions really quick

Lars
from what I've heard, some gnexs are really picky with roms and kernels. I guess your phone is one of them. I personally had problems with Trinity Kernel, since when I reboot, it sometimes bootloops for 5minutes and such. I personally had no problems with Franco though. In fact, I use Franco as my daily driver

Franco's app let's you easily tweak the settings (overclock, change governors, etc.) which may help the sluggishness. I almost exclusively run Franco and his M5 is amazing!

A reflash might be the best option ... either the ROM or Kernel or Both lol thats my inner crack flasher talkin'
Never had problems with franco. It's trinity's kernel that made problems for me.
I run Franco's kernel myself. Just have to be careful with flashing the nightlies, it can be hit or miss. They are experimental.

CHANGE YOUR GOVERNOR HURR DURR.

Today I reflashed franco and I must say that trinity is way better, at least for me. Franco keeps being sluggish, trinity works smooth.
trinity is better than Franco's in every way possible...
especially battery life

Something about kernel, rom, and cpu setting very strange!!

I have flashed the franco's kernel with viperx's rom now.
And I find that my phone's battery life does not improve mostly. As I was using ICE COLD JELLY AOKP's rom and with the ncx's kernel before, I find that the battery only fall 1% within 5 min's, but now after i flashed faux's kernel, it falls 1% every minutes!! Therefore, i came back to AOKP's rom and the ncx's kernel, but strangely , it falls 1% in 1~2 mins.. After that, whatever i used the other roms or kernels(such as i tried CM10 ,CM9 ,Android Revolution HD v9.4.1 (Sense 4.1) ), they also come with bad battery life..
One more thing make me confused.
I can't tweak the cpu or alter the governor, although i changed them by using setcpu or other similar apps, when i use cpu spy, I find that they do not change the governor or the mhz..
But when i use the franco Kernel updater, it works! What is the matter of that??
Well third party applications can have compatibility issues. Try flashing another kernel if your battery drains that much, or maybe its something you installed.

Sometimes a full wipe is helpful. However batteries seem to settle after a couple of charge cycles and that's what I would recommend before rushing to conclusions. Switching ROMs with the speed of light won't help you.

sleepy phone. those with few wakelocks what rom and kernal you use?

I know xda doesnt like the usual rom threads. im trying to be different. my battery life is ok most days. though I notice if I idle phone the wakelocks come. and I seem to do everything in my power to prevent it. then I see people with wakelocks almost non existent. thought maybe you could share your setup. im increasingly finding myself needing the extra idle time in my phone and considering a new setup. currently using wicked v8 and ktoonsez kernal
BBS or no one can help you.
*Best Rom for wakelocks/battery* (in my opinion)

Hello,
honestly the best rom for battery life + wake locks is the Synergy Rom. This Rom is amazing! The stock kernel that it comes with is also AWESOME! You need to try this rom for yourself! As an added bonus, it comes with multiwindow enabled for all applications! As a tweak for multiwindow, it comes with sticky windows... it is like pop up video for apps.

[Q] Anyone running ANY 3.4.x kernel FLAWLESSLY?

After playing around for a little while, on various 3.4.x kernel based AOSP Roms, (the latest of which I'm talking about is LiquidSmooth v2.4 and the latest nightly of PacROM. I noticed two problems. Sometimes the phone will automatically crash and restart itself when opening certain applications such as Facebook, Browser, Phone Dialer. And the second being the screen becomes all discolored and distorted usually after returning from a sleeping phone to the lock screen, and from there it sticks.
I have tried various kernels like, KT747, LeanKernel and BMS and same thing. Even the stock kernel does it. I have clean wiped x3 times (don't flame me, it's a ritual for me). My bootloader is updated to the latest UVDMD5.
Also a side note, I think most AOSP users of 3.4.x are having battery problems up the wa-zoo.
Does anyone else experience this?
Using CM 5/23 and the 5/18 unofficial gapps I linked in the CM thread, I had no battery drain issues.
Try using ktoonz 5/17 kernel and overvolting a bit. Try 25mV across the board, and if that doesn't work, 50mV. Ktoonservative governor, row scheduler.
I'm assuming you did not restore data on these clean installs?
KT747 builds 4/27, 5/3, and 5/17 have all worked flawlessly for me. I normally run the Ktoonservative governor/Row scheduler and it always seems to do the trick in regards to battery and performance. You can try testing out different ones while doing what Aerowinder stated above and see if the issue persists. Also, do make sure you haven't restored any data from these particular apps as it can cause such crashes, including random reboots. Besides, things like Facebook is as simple as signing in. Restoring data really isn't necessary.

I'm using Neverendingxsin's 5/14 Rootbox nightly on BMS 5/19 kernel and am having no problems like you listed. My freqs are 1728/192 with interactive/sio (currently looking for replacement to smartassv2) and no UV atm. I was using Bajee's RB 4.0 build and was having serious data issues but no screen discoloration or RRs either.
I do know that you can change the default color on BMS from standard to Morfic's with: SU Setcolor 1 is Morfic and 2 is default.
FWIW, my phone hates KT's kernel. I have tried multiple times with multiple versions of OSs to get it to work right and it never does. I gave up trying. Works great for most, just not my chipset.
Thanks everyone. I guess it's time to work with Rootbox and CM10.1 5/23/2013. I did overvolt at one point +25v across the board but was heavily losing battery for some reason. I brought it back to normal, and all was fine.
