Thanks for looking everyone - The required QCN file was obtained and the Post-IMEI Recovery Bell Data Connectivity issue has been solved by PeopleArmy with the assistance of Jethro650!
Hey Bell users, I recently lost my IMEI and after restoring it using this method I now have no service. However their is a solution and but I need your help!
I need a backup of a specific file from a working BELL SGS3. Their is no flashing required as you only need to install a windows program and click a few buttons, then upload the file and PM it to PeopleArmy. The file will allow xda member, Peoplearmy to add BELL to his Data Restorer App for post-IMEI-injection issues. The file is small and will only take you a few minutes to retreive. As a bonus, the file you are retrieving is a backup of your IMEI data, which is good for you to keep in case you ever loose it.
If any Bell user already has a QCN file backup, please skip to step 7 so I can get this fix underway for my phone and the others waiting to get data back.
INSTRUCTIONS (for stock samsung rooted/unrooted roms - AOSP roms follow this):
1. DOWNLOAD and Install QPST V2.7.378 from HERE. Unzip the file and run the "setup.exe" to install QPST.
(Please note that QPST is a powerful program and can flash anything you throw at it. Don't do anything outside of the instructions as it can/could damage your phone)
2. You need open a hidden settings menu. Using the stock dialer dial *#7284#
3. Press the USBSettingsMenu button and put your phone in "RMNET + DM + MODEM" mode.
4. Plug your phone into your computer. Open your windows control panel and look in device manager under Ports and Serials you should see your phone there (note the COM##).
5. Find QPST in your start menu and open "QPST Configuration", click on the PORTS tab and then on Add New Port button. You should see the phone listed in the box on the right side. Click it and press OK. If you don't see it, type in COM## where ## is the port number you noted in step 4 and click OK. Close "QPST Configuration".
6. Find QPST in your start menu and open "Software Download". Click on the BACKUP tab. Make sure your phone is listed at the top under Port. Select the location you want to save your backup beside the "QCN File". Click Start and wait for it to finish. You should now have a QCN file of your NV wherever you made the save location.
7. Submitting your QCN is no longer required as this issue has been solved.
Please note that the instructions above were originally written by PeopleArmy but I modified them for people like me, who need it a little simpler
Thank you for your help,
Ian

I hope you can help too! I see your reply on PeopleArmy's thread. Probably for the better that it goes directly to the maker than to the public or a noob like me. I'm not really sure what kind of devious things could be done with a copy of someones QCN file. I think PeopleArmy only needed one file so I suppose anyone else can use the instructions to backup their QCN but don't post it online or send it out.
I'll edit the OP and ask to have this thread closed once everything is resolved.
Thanks again,
Ian

Yeah I'm not sure what all is contained in the backup but I do know that my imei number is in there so its not wise to throw it out to the general public.
On a side note mine was carrier unlocked when I took the backup so I don't know how that would play into it if at all. In the least I hope it helps him help people in your situation.
Good call! I decided to update the OP so that if anyone else decides to send their Bell QCM backups in, they will know to send them directly to PeopleArmy. I have no idea if your carrier unlocked file will have any effect on this fix so it couldn't hurt to have other people send theirs in too.
Thanks again for you're help. If you get any kind of updates that don't make it to the other thread, feel free to post them here as I'll be checking it every chance I get (only at home until my phone works again - no wifi at work)

Thanks for making a note of this on here. I have said in my thread repeatedly to never post any QCN backups publicly even if you are just storing it somewhere publicly accessible. I always discard of any QCN's that people send me once I look it over and once they are no longer needed. I even go as far as deleting the message that contains the link to a person's QCN after it is no longer needed for development (it also helps keep my message box from becoming too full...lol).
Jethro I sent you a message that I need a backup created using the 2.7.378 version of QPST. The one you sent me was made using the 2.7.323 version.
Thanks,
DX
@ian1331: It may be helpful to change your OP: It is a "QCN" backup, not QCM. No need to stress too much yet, I am pretty sure once peoplearmy gets what he needs you will be up and running again. I have seen him do it many times before.

Haha, I noticed that earlier today and I took a couple minutes to look but I couldn't figure out how to change the thread title. I think I got all instances of "QCM" in the OP, just not that title. I'll take another look right now.
Thanks,
Ian
@peoplearmy new backup made and pm sent, actually two sent cause I don't think the first one went lol.
@ian1331, I stayed up last night and got peoplearmy what he needed and he has updated his program in his thread. You should be good to go. Please post your results and if it works just add (solved) to your thread title. Good luck.
Edit--> you can change the thread title by editing your first post and just edit the title....
It is done! I was able to use the Data Restorer Application to fix my phone. With the assistance of PeopleArmy and the timley response/donation from Jethro650, I have a new QCN file restored to my phone and everything is perfect!
This issue is solved for me! If anyone requires further assistance with this issue, please refer to PeopleArmy's thread.
Thanks,
Ian

I have somebody requesting a qcn file from me, not sure how to do this safely, looking for a middleman to edit me imei number (and anything else important) out of the file(s).
requesting a qcn file i need i747m qcn file please

First: I have searched... alot.... seriously alot of searching
Second: I would have posted in the appropriate forum ( AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III > AT&T Galaxy S III Android Development > [FIX/TOOL] Backup/Restore/Fix IMEI & Data Restore Tool v3.0 - Updated 11/01/2012!!!)
BUT I have less then ten posts so I guess I have to put it here.
I restored my IMEI via the instructions in the forum, that went ok, but when I try to load the .qcn backup file into SGS3 QCN Generator the .qcn backup cannot be found on my pc.
I made sure to put it in the correct bin folder and when I go into QPST Software Download the file shows up, but if you browse or even search for it outside of that application it cannot be found...
I'm sorry for posting this here I would rather posted this as a reply in the right forum but the ten posts thing, I guess I'm a noob but I have rooted and rom'd 4 phones now with 12 or 15 different roms and haven't had any issue like this.
any help would be much appreciated.
Phone is tmobile
SGH-T999
4.0.4
Baseband: T999UVLI6
Ok I flashed stock everything from odin, back to Baseband: T999UVLH2 and tried the whole process again and it worked, except I still don't have 4g data... so i could use some help if you know of a way to make my 4g come back pc also says it is unable to identify device when I connect via usb...
Only thing I can think of is when you restore your qcn backup, use the very first one you ever made. Dont know why, just that multiple members have reported that as working for them.
If it doesn't help, PM peoplearmy. I believe he has a file that should fix you right up. Or will at least know what to do.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
4G is back, apparently all it needed was another reboot and to sit about 10 min...
Thank you Doc for the reply, I didn't know what I was going to do if all of that didn't work.
If anyone has searched this problem and you have found this thread, please PM me and I will be glad to help you as best I can.
ok so i was doing a little reading and stuff and saw that doing a nvbackup was kinda important so i did it though adb via the "adb reboot nvbackup" and it did its thing. now is that all i should do? i saw a few tool threads that were listing off a bunch of other crap their tools backed up but none were for sprint and idk if i should be backing up something else or not. any info is appreciated since im getting more lost by the minute haha

That should be sufficient but you can go one step further and back up your efs. There is a flashable zip in the vzw gs3 section that will back that up for you. sorry I dont have the link handy. Another option, the one i used, is to flash synergy rom from the vzw section and itll backup your efs on install. Itll tell you where its backed up to. sdcard/synergy maybe? Then you can copy that to your computer. You can also use qpst to backup your nv items and all the instructions are here.

i do not think the vzw flashable zip works (correctly) for SPH-L710.
i dont even think if you 'adb pull efs' works correctly on sph-l710.
to my understanding the sprint s3 is completely different then all the other S3 variants when it comes to the nv and efs areas.
i did do a 'adb reboot nvbackup' and i dont see any file or directory that has been created either on my extsdcard or intsdcard.
when i did that 'adb pull efs' it just seems like lots of stuff is missing like nv_data.bin.
i think all other S3's have this file but i think the Sprint S3 does not have it
anyhow if someone who knows what they are doing could explain this a bit more it would be great.
im on MD4 rom
just wanted to add one more thing
when using roms LJ7 and before i could enter the 16 digit password in DFS then use QPST EFS Explorer to read all the nv_items with no problem.
I could also make the "Backup" using QPST and i could read the areas that would normally say "access denied"
in the instructions for using qpst backup or any other tools people provide not including 'adb reboot nvbackup' how would those tools backup those areas correctly?
when you goto restore those .qcn backups you made good luck because almost all the important areas are not going to be working correctly if you did the backup and it was encrypted i believe

Partitions are the same, and its also CDMA.
Hi, I really Jacked-up my G2 trying to follow the "Permanent Sim Unlock" thread. I thought it would be useful because I have a Sprint Sim in my phone and it is locked but when I tried it my Data connection is almost nonexistant. I am hoping someone can send me or upload the original files that were either over-written or deleted by the attempt such as the " Property, .xml. and the telephony.db " files.
Go ahead an insult me all you want...LOL... but I did a backup first but it did not undo the damage.....Someone please help me if you can. Thanks!
Just curious why you thought a sim unlock would be useful if you are on Sprints network? There would be no need to unlock sim if you are staying on their service, they use the sim to authenticate your LTE (data), and cdma (radio) to make calls. Those of us that dont want to use sprint service need the sim unlocked! I would go back to stock since you are on their service, follow the tutorial here, http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-restore-lg-g2-to-stock-firmware/
If you want to root after that use IORoot 25 found here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618232
Then you can use apps with SU permissions but if you are going to stay on sprints network, there is no need for you to unlock the sim slot! Best of Luck!

Yes....I realized my misunderstanding after I did it. I also know that the best option for me is to go back to stock but I can't download a file that large (2.1 gig firmware) right now so I was looking for an alternative. I did the IORoot the first time and it did well so it is still rooted. I was just hoping someone could provide the original firmware files that were changed by using the method on the "Permanent Sim Unlock" thread. It shouldn't be that large of a file if someone could zip the 3 main files for me and I can undo the ".bak" of the app files. If no one wants to upload it I can give my email address and they can send it that way. So if someone is reading this that can take a few minutes out of their schedule to help me out I would appreciate it.
oh ok, I dont have access to my computer right now or I would pull you the 2 files for you from my stock G2. I am pretty sure they are on the site already in the posts, try searching for them. I am pretty sure I saw them in the posts somewhere, if you dont find them, I will post them, when I get home.

Commented on a few lost IMEI related threads but most of them seem to be unattended. So thought of trying my luck in a new thread :good:
IMEI and Samsung serial number on my unlocked note2 i317 dont match with back panel and so unable to connect to any network(phone's history is unknown so cant do much apart from fixing the phone). Phone's still in original firmware(refer attached snapshot for complete details). Tried to load original stock ROM from ODIN(KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2.tar.md5 ) but still EFS remains the same. I could locate the serial_no file(which contains new Serial number) from root explorer but unable to find nv_data files in IMEI folder(IMEI folder only contains mps_code.dat file.
Questions:
- Does this indicate an incorrect ROM flash that might have corrupted EFS?
- Are nv_data bin and bak files visible from root explorer(rooted, of course)?
- Original stock ROM was loaded from a single tar.md5 file(838mb) through ODIN. Though ODIN confirmed it as ''PASS" at the end, all the data on the phone remained intact and the process consumed around 8-10 minutes. Is this acceptable?
Looking forward to quick and promising responses.
TIA,
Chaitanya.

Im aware about that. I'm mainly trying to figure out the root cause. I'm not quite sure whether the issue is because of a wrong custom ROM or anything else, and hence require some guidance. Can you answer my questions please?
On a lighter note, changing IMEI is illegal but I guess retrieving is not :silly:
I've flashed many different ROMs on various phones and I've never had problems with the IMEI number changing.
Don't know about nv_data phone is still searched my Note II.
Don't know about the results of ODIN flash (sorry).

Having the software is illegal.
Guys,
Your advices are welcome but I would be glad if your responses actually address my problem rather than lecturing me on what is right or wrong. Sorry but,as a novice in troubleshooting android related problems and this being my first overseas phone, I thought senior members could share their experience in pointing to the actual problem with my phone.
In case it is the subject of this thread that is leading to this confusion, I apologize. I'm not really sure if it is an IMEI problem and that why mentioned all the details I thought are relevant to this issue. If it is still against the forum's rules to discuss my issue, please close this thread.
Changing you IMEI does not happen by accident. Flashing ROMs does not do it. Corrupting you EFS will not change you IMEI.
So from the sound of it you have a phone where someone in the past has deliberately changed the IMEI.
The IMEI that your phone currently has sound like it is not recognized by the network as being a valid IMEI.
Sorry but from you description you need to change your IMEI to a valid one.
As I have so patiently explained, you are asking people to give you advice on attempting an illegal action. That's why you aren't getting a solution. Check your xda user agreement - this discussion is breaking that.
Thanks guys. Please understand that I was not sure about the root cause. That's why posted the symptoms here and asked for confirmation. The phone physically looks so good that I couldn't believe that it was used before and got its IMEI and serial number tampered. Since I read some threads with users explaining IMEI related losses, I thought of sharing my issue as well. It was also getting tough to receiving help from India and xda is the best forum I heard about.
Appreciate your feedback. Please close my thread if it is strictly against your rules.
From the Moderator
The Other People who posted are correct software that's sole purpose is to modify the IMEI is not legal. So, it is not allowed in XDA to post such items....... Lic laws, etc.
It is possible to retrieve your original IMEI if you have a previous backup by restoring a nandroid (if you kept one) other than that, not sure how to do it.
That said
This is now .........CLOSED...........
Hi all,
I wanted to restore all BT pairings from my older phone, with Android 6 and backed up with Titanium Backup.
Because after restoring with TB there was no pairing, I investigated a little and found some interesting things:
- from Lollipop the config file changed in name and format: was bt_config.xml and now is bt_config.conf (even in /data/misc/bluedroid folder)
- the stock ROM of our phone (tryed only this) is able to convert from older format but only if the new config file is not present!
Warnings:
- ROOT is required.
- if you want to save some pairing already present in new config file save it before that merge two files with a text editor, very simple!
1) shut off BT
2) delete /data/misc/bluedroid/bt_config.conf
3) copy bt_config.xml to /data/misc/bluedroid/ (even with TB)
4) enable BT

Reading the OP, it talks about restoring bluetooth and specifically bt_config.conf.
It doesn't matter that the OP is talking about Titanium Backup and/or about merging files.
It about getting the bluetooth pairings to restore and work.
I followed the steps provided, trying to restore bluetooth.
It didn't work.
I provided instructions that worked for me. They might help someone else too.
I'm sorry you feel my help and detailed steps were off topic. However, as I was searching on methods to backup and restore bluetooth, this thread showed in my search results.
If someone else stumbles here, regardless of backup method, the instructions I provided should help if the ones they follow here don't (as they didn't work for me).
Have a great holiday!
Learn to be patient and kind. Otherwise the help you provide is worthless, Grinch.

NO! It talks about restoring a configuration from an older Android version, where the config file was bt_config.xml.
This is usefull when restoring the data after buying a new device.
Stating that this method not worked for you signify only that you have not read well and you are not aware of what you are doing.
I'm not patient nor kind... all my efforts are to inform correctly.
