LED notifications not working - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone else having a problem with LED notifactions not working. It turns blue when I power the phone on and it will turn red when I have the charger hooked up but email, phone calls, text messages, IMs, or anything else, it just wont work. I have all the boxes checked in the "LED indicator" section.

U need to use a program for that, just search for lightflow in Google play..

Phone calls and text messages should make the led blink blue with screen off.
No app is needed for these

We all know that the led indicator options are there in system settings, but many people including me are facing problems with those options enabled & not working properly (xda full of that u can check ) so for more advanced and custom led options with less hassles go for lightflow

Hi,
Any one tried the panacea - Reboot? Though I don't have the problem but would like to know if the cure works here too.
Cheers!!

Light flow cons
Just to let you know light flow has its down side. It will suitable your spen air view and also if you using continuous text option on key board. It will disable that too

LED notifications work fine here.

air view needs to be shut off during install, but you can turn it right back on afterwards.

Swype function is still disable

Yes, air view is solved but can't do without swype function

The other annoying issue with light flow is talk back is enabled. Whenever you open folder or use s pen to view emails it will read the text, there is no fix for this at all.

Mine has this issue as well. Have you tried emailing the dev yet on this case ? I thought it was just me.

LED notification for all usual suspects were working for me for about 2 weeks. Then suddenly it stopped working today. I noticed it when I put the phone to charge and it didn't show me the RED light. However, I just restarted the phone and everything is back to normal now.
So try restart if it has 'stopped' working only recently.
If it never worked and you suspect LEDs are gone, then dial *#0*# , it will start an inbuilt test application in which you press 'LED' button and LED test will be executed.

I don't know if you fixed this issue yet but I realized enabling power saving disables the notification lights. You can disable power saving and see if it works

note 2 i317
I have an att galaxy note 2 i317. I had led message notification and it stopped working. I checked online and got no help. I found out that the stock message program was conflicting with the att messaging program. I had to uncheck the box in the att program that said to disable other messaging programs notifications. Plus set up the stock one as the one to use by default. And that did it.... Hope it helps you out.

Charging LED app for the Galaxy Nexus

I found an app in the market that uses the LED for charging! All I can say is awesome. Red while charging and blue when charged. This should be standard on the Gnex. Works great!

If not i'll just try it
You could also try a program called lightflow which does all of that and more. There is a free version too.

I use Lightflow Pro and works very good on my Gnex. I can choice led color, blinking speed and duration of every notification for all programs (like Handcent SMS, WhatsApp, Gmail...). Simply the best.

So I gave it a go and it does what it says it does requires no permissions that you would find odd (only asks for vibrate because it has an option to vibrate when charged) so yeah if you don't want all the flash and extra that comes with lightflow I'd say give it a go
Awesome

Probably not much since it should only awaken the phone when you receive a notification but should lie dormant until then or run in the background like Google services.

Hey Thanks!!!
Yeah, Lightflow is really non compatible with this phone. The dev posted in a thread here that there are problems with Sammys sw if I remember right. So as it is now, you have to do without the swype and turn off/on airview I think. At least the phone comes with different charging and notification colors. But, I miss my Lightflow custom colors

I use lightflow and I havent had any problems? At first when you enable lightflow in accessibility it prompts you to disable air view so disable it. After lightflow is enabled, try enabling air view again and it should work.
I have both lightflow and air view working simultaneously.

This is a Samsung issue
Unfortunately this seems to be a Samsung issue on their phones. This issue also occurs on my Audio Control application. I allow custom notification vibrate patterns as part of my application which uses an Accessibility Service. Something Samsung is doing is screwing up developers apps. I've tried to contact Samsung but have not receive any reply. Known devices that have issues are the Galaxy S3 and Note 2

any way to lower the brightness of the led notification?

I love the led notification, nothing like waking up in the middle of the night and looking over and knowing you don't have any notifications because the light isn't going off... but when I don't need a flashlight BECAUSE it's going off it gets annoying... I wanna be able to go to sleep if I'm ignoring it; yet have it there to know I have things to look at.
(first world problem I know)

Just turn it off???
Sure its nice to know if you have a message from afar but really? One of the first things I did when I got my GS3 and Note 2 was go into settings/display/LED Indicator/and unselect all boxes.
i don't think you can lower the intensity, but you can turn off the notifications and us an app called NoLED. it puts a notification on your screen instead. since OLED only lights up the active pixels the drain should be any more than the notification light. i use it with my sammy droid charge that has no notification lights.
Why not just go into settings and turn on Blocking Mode?
You can set the time frame it's active. It can keep led off, notifications, phone calls etc. You can change the settings for it.

The bug is still there, but there is workaround, at least until next restart of phone.
1. From home screen, Click settings -> more settings -> toggle NFC on.
2. Go back to home screen, scroll down the notification panel, the NFC icon should appear, but it is not working yet. Click the NFC icon to turn it off. The UI will hang and stop.
3. After the UI restarts itself, the NFC icon should work until you switch off the phone.
Enjoy for the time being until next firmware update.

First make sure you have the led turned on...its in the settings. Light flow will work but you have to disable talkback (its an Android problem not an LG issue) question.. does your led light up when you turn the phone on? ..when your phone is off turn it on if it lights up all the colors then its working if not then maybe a hardware issue.

Working for me. Did you enable it in accessibility settings and enable notifications for the individual apps you want notifications for (via Lightflow)?
I didn't try it with your AOSP Messaging app, yet. I wasn't even getting status bar notifications, though.

You need to actually go in to the main settings, General, apps, select talkback, force stop, and then disable it (you may need to uninstall updates first). I had the same problem a little while ago. Does it only say the letters using the LG keyboard? Mine didn't do it for other keyboards.
Also, if you use tasker at all, it can successfully control the led colors. If you want to play with it, you can assign different colors for specific notifications. I haven't done so yet for the ogp, but I made an app for the lgog (only one color for that led though). Also, if you look up something called "buttonled" by germainz here on xda, he has made a tasker profile and app that might work for you too.

I did a factory reset and went in and disabled talk back. Led works now with lightflow. Only thing that bothers me is when I test the new color, it'll blink new color then a different color then back to assigned color. That normal for this phone? Thanks for the help by the way.
