god day all you happy xperia play owner.
i will soon getting a new phone and i wont have any need for the xperia play as a actual phone. so this will be only a gaming device.
what im looking for is the perfect kernel and rom to give me as much quality gaming as possible.
currently on ICS++ and a ICS beta kernel from doom and am realy happy with it. only downside is emulators not working to a 100% (SNesoid. gameoid, n64oid and nesoid.) the issue is sound on = lagg and n64oid lags / reboots phone.
so what im looking for is a ICS rom (for the touch pads working) that gan give a good gaming experience.
I decided to go back to a stock 2.3.4 on my r800x. All custom roms and any that are ICS gave me lag in games, and low fps for some reason.

Jokawild isn't ICS.
I think that if you want everything to work like it should, you should go back to stock.
ICS seems to be more demanding overall over Gingerbread from what ive seen.
Xperia play is pretty dated Hardware wise so a really trimmed down version of Gingerbread might be the best option for gaming
Ive seen a few threads point to use either DiXperia, Jokawild, or TruAncestor
I'm using the Xperia S Style ROM and man games run faster than they did before. V6 Supercharged of course.

I can confirm this!
I just swithed to DiXperia (on of the many Xperia S roms) and i have seen a huge boost in performance with a full 200MB of Ram free while running.
The nice thing about DiXperia so far is that its completely barebones and you add what you want to it.
Definetely get on the Xperia S Roms
Agreed with above, im actually switching my phone over to an xperia S rom.
JokaWild is the best custom ROM that I know.. definetly great!
touch?
i can live with going back to GB since SE are not releasing official ICS. but is there anyway to have GB with touch pad support on emulators?
DarkForest Roms is a not bad options

I second this.
I enjoy playing games on my Play and do not want to lose the gamepad support, I am on Stock gingerbread but with Doomkernel v14, and was wondering if updating to the Sony ICS beta would affect my gaming? Meaning would my games work and would they be laggy and unresponsive?
For gaming, stay on GB. Better gaming experience and stability.

Gaming suckkkkss with ICS. trust me
XDark ICS
Actually, on XDark ICS many of my Gameloft, EA games worked with touchpad support! It is actually alright for gaming but again is not as good as gingerbread. If you're bored and want to try it go ahead. Do a nandroid backup backup beforehand, then what have you got to lose ?
Edit: if you just want the look and feel of ICS try Gin2JellyBean, the dev is great and it is hands down the best GB rom I've ever used. Infact it's my daily driver for whenever I get bored of ICS. Gamepad and touchpad work as they would on stock too!
I would suggest staying on GB.
I have used ICS and GB and ICS is, although beautiful, not the best for gaming.
From my experience:
GTA3 wouldnt run
Dead Space ran half speed
Emulators (SNES,NES,MD) ran full speed
So if you only play emu, go for it.
Majority of the games out the market right now support gb. Believe me it is a big mraket. Give ics some time and you would see the games out on gb may also come out for ics.
So far (in my *bountiful* (one day)) experience with ICS, gaming has been good.
Emulators at least. Only real games I play are Minecraft and that has been quite nice too. But, to go with most people I'd say stay on GB for now if you want definite stability.
Hi i want to know what is the best rom for now? Because i want to change my rom i cant decide which one is good.

There's not a lot of active rom right now. So kinda hard to giv u some suggestion.
Kindly Hit Thanks Button if i've help u in anyway.
I've used a LOT of the XP roms and first let me say this: there is no truly "best" rom, it all boils down largely to a matter of preference.
I'm currently running TrueAncestor 1.6 and I really like it, but I do miss certain things about ICS. The thing with ICS that's worth understanding is there is no truly stable or complete ICS rom for the Xperia Play. Every ICS rom has bugs or missing features. Some are worse than others. MANY ICS roms drop support for the touchpads in major games (EA Games, Gameloft Games, Rockstar Games) due to a colossal screwup on Sony's part. You can sort of regain the touchpad functionality using things like USB BT Joystick 6 or GameKeyboard, but those are hacks and they eat system resources.
Speaking of resources, ICS roms are also much more system intensive. Your phone will run slower, games will run less well, and your overall performance will be less snappy than GB roms. It's not *terrible* for sure, but Overclock is practically necessary for ICS roms to help make up for that performance loss. The XP's hardware is dated (it was dated when it launched, technically) and it's starting to show. The paltry amount of RAM and single core processor really hurt it's ability to run ICS and still kick ass at games.
Overall though, as far as ICS roms go I'd recommend AOKP, though the dev has gone dark and not updated it in a while. It was pretty good and had a lot of nice features. I hear CM9 is also nice, and it continues to get active support and development, and will eventually be superceded by CM10. Even then though, I still ran into moderate bugs on both of them - AOKP had a persistent problem where the WIFI would stop working due to a bug in the Settings dialog, so turning on/off your Wifi could cause it to stop working altogether, and the only fix was a reflash. It was a major pain in the ass. Other ICS roms will just randomly crash or reboot, or programs won't work or will crash that should otherwise work in ICS. Overall, be prepared for instability and don't expect 100% from your phone with virtually any ICS rom installed. Blame Sony for only releasing a beta of ICS and then dropping support.
There are other good ICS roms, such as ICS++, Ice Cream Sony, and KA, but some or all of those might have lost dev support (it's been a while since I checked) and none of them really did much in terms of feature changes/support, so they've stagnated compared to more active roms.
Honestly, I realize now that there wasn't a ton in ICS that I needed, and having switched back to GB last week I'm very happy I did - performance is better, battery life is tolerable (slightly worse than AOKP was), and games run great, plus I have full touchpad support again. It looked nice, but it didn't really add anything, and the bugs and missing features finally pushed me away from it after almost a year of running it (I've been running ICS since the first ICS ports hit the XP).
As for GB roms - TrueAncestor is good. I was running JokaWild for a bit, and it was ok, but it didn't blow me away, TA's theme is more preferrable to me. I'm running DoomKernel v14 which seems ok - it's also a bit dated though and Doom could probably do some updates to improve it a bit more if he had the time, but I'm sure he's quite busy.
I hope this helps - and good luck.
Also, if you aren't Fastboot enabled, get that done - it's worth the money and you'll need it in the hunt for the best rom, otherwise your selection will be very limited.
I have been using ICS roms and they are my favourite, there is a developer called secho I use many of his ports along with the kernel he recommends my favourite so far
True ancestor with my bloatware remover is my choice

For best gaming experience, this ROM is highly recommended.
[ROM] DiXperia 2 'Everlasting' | Performance. Stability. Experience. | 13.08.2012

ICS sucks btw. This custom ROM is smooth and touchpads arent buggy as hell as on ICS..

My sig. Best from for me.
I am curious what people feel is the best rom for gaming and speed on an r800at, guess that part doesn't matter as long as its a GSM Rom.
Thoughts and if you can detail why you feel said rom is the best. Again I am looking for best gaming rom, speed and available memory.

I used a lot of GB ROMs but I always return to this.
I believe it's smoother and more stable than others.
Cant believe u open a thread just to ask this Q. Scrolling down my xda app there's a bunch of thread asking the same. Not to mention in the general sect.
But since u new to Gsm i like to point out to ur Q that ALL GB ROM can gme & they hav their own pros/cons. So to know which suited u best, u just gonna hav to try it. Coz we may hav the same phone but our taste & view are totally diff. Cheerio.
Regards,
Sdojoin
Normally I balked at these threads, but okay. I like NXT Lite rom and Doom kernel, though honestly I find all gingerbread roms to be good with gaming performance.
You can check here on explanation of the cpu governors and and i/o schedulers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369817, it might help with tuning between performance and battery life. I'm using 'smoothass' and 'bfq' @ 250-1000 and it's very smooth, as far as this old phone goes.
Thank you everyone for the replies. As stated I am new to the GSM xperia play but have been on the CDMA for 18 months. I pretty much stick to my own stock VZ rom but heavilynmodded and debloated. So I am just trying to determine what are some users preferred choice(s) of roms as I have been limited to choices of roms when compared to the GSM model.
I guess I should also ask as I have been on 2.3.3 since pretty much the beginning but with the recent release of JB for the PLAY I would imagine that the xperia games launcher doesn't work as these roms are not built on Sony framework, am I incorrect in this? And also how people rate the gamepads on JB? I pretty much play some of the following
Shadowgun,
asphalt 6, backstab,
modern combat 3. (want to play 4 but its not smooth enough for me to play it emjoyably.)
NFS most wanted. (If you want to add me - ozzmanj1)
Order & chaos
The built in PS1 emulator
Other emus
Bards tale
Dead space
All kemco RPGs
Nova 2.
Sorry for the long list. But if someone sees any games above that don't really play nice with JB can you state below. Thank you

Some ics roms can play them with no trouble apart from mc4 but mc3 works good and so does gta vice city on low graphic settings on ics but as for jb there's touchpad lag in some games lie gta mc3 and a few others shadow gun works but I couldn't get the expansion pack (leftover) to work just kept force closes but some games can run pretty good like fifa 12
But if you want perfect gaming any gingerbread rom
For ics my personal favourite is miui Australia
And jb slimbean or Turbo ui
But these are just my findings and opinions

Thank you. I game a lot (when I have the time) So I would prefer something that would be best with the following features:
Excellent for Gaming
A Rom that has the most available memory.
Is DiXperia and/or NXT2JB / NXT Lite good with these above perks? Again sorry for all the questions its just that now that I have all these choices of ROMs I cannot decide and thought I would pick everyones brain on it.
My vote goes toward jokawild. No titanium backup issues, great on gaming, better wifi strength, xperia stock look. Best of all its based on stock gingerbread.
I'm thinking about finally ditching the 2.3.4 stock rom that's served me well for so many years.
...but since I have been spoiled by 2.3.4, I'm coming in with some extremely high standards. I understand a lot of my Gameloft games will be broken, and I'm willing to come to terms with that.
Requirements:
- I don't want to sacrifice major hardware elements (touchpad/buttons, camera/720p recording, GPS, BT)
- Looking for battery life that will either match or exceed the famously spectacular battery life 2.3.4 users know of
- I'd like to have the new Xperia Play Game Launcher I've seen in the ICS previews
It's asking both a little and a lot at the same time... but with those requirements set in place, I'm not terribly picky about whether it's 4.0, 4.1, 4.2 or 4.3... as long as it's one of them.
Any suggestions?

Mission impossible...
Stock 2.3.4 firmware is most stable and fully-compatible for gamer like you.
And there are so many roms out there that you'll need a month to test them all...
I don't know what rom to recommend you, but i can say of some pros and cons of different ics/jb roms out there:
-Stock (Sony) based ICS roms are most compatible in terms of hardware features. Touchpads works in 90% of games (esspecially in gameloft games). All other hardware is almoust 100% in working state. But, ICS is little heavier in terms of memory managment, and whatever rom you choose, if you install heavy apps like facebook that are always on, you're gonna meet Mr.Lag very soon. Also, compared to stock GB, most of them have volume in around 90%, wich is acceptable. You can flash 480p Lupus kernel and getting some free RAM (fyi, 480p on GB is not same as 480p in ICS. Imho, in ICS, 720p looks like streched 480p). Also, there are few types of Stock (Sony) based ICS roms: ported from ics beta for play (little outdated), ported from Neo L's ICS (less features, but not so heavy) and roms ported from other devices (Arc, Ray, T, etc etc), with most features (including small apps)
-CM based ICS have (as all CM roms) lower volume in general (same as stock GB without xLoud), most touchgames works, some roms have problems with back/circle button
-I don't have much expirience with MIUI roms, i tested it few times, but didn't use it much (imho, it is little heavier on RAM, but it's eye-candy). worth a try, for sure
-JB roms are all CM10 based, generally have all features of CM (but not all features of sony apps). And even it works, on all JB roms there is lag when using touchpads. It is barrely noticeable at, for example, at Nova 3, but on heavy game like Modern Combat 4, framerate drop by 10 for sure.
If i missed any, i'm sorry, that is my experience from last (almoust) two years of testing/flashing roms in few words.
I guess you already know, but just for the sake of mentioning, check Xperia Play Index - ROM'S, FIRMWARE, KERNEL'S, GUIDE'S, THEMES, MOD'S. Smokerman had a great job of continuing Fma's work there.

Stay with gingerbread!
Almost all other roms out there are experimental and no one was able to perfect a fully compatible one, there's or there are bugs always! If in terms of gaming and overall performance, stay with stock gingerbread, root it and install a modified kernel, from there you can experiment further to even make it better!
im a big fan of ics+ myself
because i have some problems with gb that it doesn't support my router completely
i used most of ics roms around the forum and if you only need a rom full of futures use my Iridescent_Zed_One port but i wont suggest it for gaming or heavy using.
i turned on my hotspot shield on that and started web browsing and phone freezed completely(but gaming was fair enough for myself.i dont use my xperia play for gaming anymore.)
for gaming i will suggest you stock deblaoted rom without any tweaks
Well, I'm trying out xPlaystation v14 now. So far there's a lot I like, but it has this infuriating trend of randomly hanging for about a minute, and it happens frequently enough to where I'm probably gonna try out MIUI.
...if nothing else, just for a functioning Google Now,
Okay so I have MIUI now and OH MY GOD. It was like breathing new life into my Xperia Play.
I do have a couple questions though that I'd like to ask without getting into it's own horribly swamped topic.
1) Where can I access the Permissions Manager? I really need my Link2SD to survive
2) Can I customize the icons on the lock screen? If so, how can I?
