Normal battery drain?

Hey...android noob here. Got my first Android phone a couple of days ago after being an apple fanboy since the first iphone. Loving the note 2 so far. I have a question in regards to battery drain...unplugged last night after full charge and went to bed..woke this morning with about 82% left..it was idle the whole time except for checking the time a couple of times throughout the night. Does that seem to be on par for the typical battery drain? Thanks in advance. Loving the forums here so far.

Settings -> battery -> should show you what's been eating your battery. Tap on the graph for other details.
Could be anything from poor signal to an app you installed.

You can conserve you battery by stopping some of your apps
Eg : if you have youtube running this will help run your battery flat quicker
I turn off any apps that i'm not using even data ,gps ,location services etc....this can effect some widgets tho
Hope this helps
Ps some phones and tablets won't let you shut down apps so they will run constantly

Hi Mate,
Download an App called CPU Spy.
Power off the Note 2(do not restart) and turn it on.
Leave it for a few hours and make sure if the phone goes to deep sleep when not in use.
When u r charging the phone the state would be 200MHz so if you remove the Changer without turning on the screen it does not go to deep sleep.
So always turn on the Screen before removing this.....
Hope this helps

Pravish
Not normal I'm afraid. I think most I've lost during a night is 3%, with wifi and 3g turned off but not in airplane mode. Most days I wake up with the same exact percentage as when I went to bed, i.e 0% loss during 7 hours.
Removing the charge with the screen off won't kick it in to deep sleep? Interesting, but sounds like a flaw somewhere. Where did you find this information?

That's not true! I remove the charger without turning on the screen most of the times and my phone does get deep sleep.
Not to mention the screen is automatically turned on when you unplug.

Same here.. Just update last night and issue has been vexing me ever since... The device well charge slowly Now and discharge at much faster rate than before. Although all other improvements are welcomed but battery drainage leaves device only for standby usage which sucksss
Sent from my C6502 using xda app-developers app
It´s almost the same by my ZL, now it get´s very warm in a very short time of using, and I have ca. 14 hours of battery with 56 minutes of on-screen time and only 20% left. And when i want to charge it over USB, it first discharge a few percent and then starts very slowly to charge.
Found dead pixels and camera is also broken.... Will get the device replaced and see if problem still persists

Wow man u have to have something opened in the background that causes this drain. Disable gps and location or in stamina mode add google maps, whatsapp and other things that keep running... It did work for me.
Just to add a note. It's true that battery drains faster from 100 to 80% but it seems it last longer after that even when it is lowing. It seems that the less charge u have the more difficult to empty it..
Sounds weird I know but it is what happens to me.
Yesterday I managed 23hrs on one single charge and it gave me amazing 4.03hrs of screen time and I still had 17% left on charge...

My battery life post-update is identical to what it was before the update. There must be something else in the update that's interacting with an app or apps you guys are using to cause your problem -- I doubt it is the update itself, but more a combination of things.
Thanks to getting pretty insane battery life on the ZL, I discovered a couple of battery-draining apps that I was using that were keeping my phone awake (I imagine they were also responsible for my poorer battery life on previous phones as well). Since I nuked those apps, I get 2-3 days per charge on the ZL and that's only with using low-battery mode which kicks in at 20%, not stamina mode. My screen on time is usually around an hour with voice calls making up the majority of my usage. In my case, I found a couple of apps that were constantly accessing the GPS, thus waking the phone to do so and killing my battery in the process.
For those having serious battery drain issues since this latest update, have you guys considered installing better battery stats and actually hunting down what's keeping your phone awake and/or draining the battery?

Of course it isn't, but that isn't my point. My point is that my battery routinely lasted 3 days before the .235 update and it still does after the update. Screen-on time isn't the only measure of battery life on a smartphone (I indicated that voice calls are the majority of my usage, rather than things that require the screen to be on all the time.)
All I'm saying is don't be so quick to blame the update alone for the battery issue. If tons of users aren't reporting suddenly poor battery life, the issue is likely isolated to a few users and their specific usage. Perhaps those with the issue should truly investigate the possible cause of their particular issue via a tool like Better Battery Stats before immediately declaring the update to be the culprit.

[Q] knock on/ double tap to wake

I was thinking if there is a kernel for our Note II with support for double tap to wake feature.
I am not talking about something like Agni Kernel. It offers "touchwake" which lasts for a limited time and wakes the screen on a single touch.
Thanks In Advance.
As far as I know the touch wake is just keeping the phone from going into a deep sleep for that limited time and wanting it to always be active would just prevent the phone from ever sleeping and kill the battery
that would keep the touch sensor constantly awake, and would prevent the cpu from deep sleeping, thus killing the battery.

Yes, you are right. But it has an awesome battery life, which can go a little low for a great feature.
Many other devices have that and are delivering good enough battery life. I am not a developer, so I can not be sure how much would it affect the device. I just feel it is a pretty nifty feature, and it will be great to see on my device.

There might be an app draining your battery. I use better battery stats to find which app is keeping my device from deep sleep. (Its paid app but I found it on the internet. Can't share links obviously)
For me today isn't a good example as I changed kernels etc but this is what u should have a look at too in settings. If your device is awake the whole day some app is preventing it from sleeping. I got 5.5 hr sot b4 I charged and that was with alot of snapchat
So overall my deep sleep was ok but apps like spoifty kept it awake.
Also the one in better battery stats is only the last 20℅ of my battery life. Didn't get a chance to do my sleep lol I was using it alot today.

Inaccurate (worst) sleep tracking

I used to have a FitBit charge 2, and it was accurate when it comes to sleep tracking... Now, I've Galaxy Watch, and it is $h!t... It records that I'm sleeping even I'm just resting and awake, it records more sleeping time and hours. Does anyone else have the same problem?

The sleep recording used to be very accurate, lately though, I find it to be totally unreliable. I'm hoping Samsung fixes this watch soon. It's has a lot of bugs.

The most recent update fixed the HRM that was messing up the sleep monitoring function. Tried it out the last 2 nights and am now getting more accurate readings for sleep monitoring

yep i can also confirm this too. previously it wouldn't detect any deep sleep at all and would rarely have any detailed sleep stage info. But now it's picking up more detailed sleep stage info and is telling me now that I need more deep sleep! lol
My "Sleep Record" tells me every morning that my sleep has been great!! Like I didn't move all night!!!!
..... cuz i keep my watch on charge all night, every night!! It's such a 'smart' watch!
..... yeah.... i can't even disable the "Sleep Record"
Agreed, the sleep monitoring is WAY off ... My Frontier was pretty spot on, but the Gear Watch records that I am asleep when playing PS4 ... LOL
yeah my wifes 42mm tells her she was asleep when she's in the kitchen making dinner etc.
very def standing and walking around... it's weird how inaccurate it is
for the past week or so ive noticed the same thing. but i swear that it wasi always like this.
One of the last updates fixed this for me. I turned off the REM sleep tracking as the green light was annoying and killed battery life. I am getting pretty accurate sleep readings now.

It's used to check stress and hr. This is how it can figure out your REM sleep due to both of those levels being so low.
In REM mode the green light is on all the time, or at least I think so since it's on whenever I wake up during the night. Turned off the green light is only turned on periodically to measure heartbeat.
