Take out your battery, does it look "bloated", "fat"? Can you spin it like a bottle?

The battery looks normal beside I don't have any problem with anything else like playing media ..talking on the phone ..etc it works fine and it lasts long but only with the browsing through 3g ..

Ah, gotcha. I have no idea then, lol. Sorry.

Looks like you flasher a no data one click. What was it running before. Also what browser?

OP, I've been having the same problem. My phone will randomly shut down usually while web browsing (Dolphin HD) usually on a mobile network connection (3G or 4G). How it normally goes is I will be browsing and then the phone will shut down to a blank screen, no shutdown animation, like somebody pulled the battery. When I re-boot the phone will usually do a hard shutdown again shortly after booting up (15-30 seconds). The battery level will be different upon re-boot (eg. 95% -> 40% -> 1% -> 30%). Sometimes the screen will briefly flash a low battery warning (1 second or so) before doing a hard shutdown.
My phone is 1 year old, not rooted, Android 4.0.4, Baseband S710.10 S.FI27.
Recently took the phone to a Sprint service location they could not replicate the problem, but tested the battery and did a factory reset. The problem persists after the factory reset.
Attached are screenshots of my battery graph following a series of re-boots.

Bump!! I'm sorry, but I'm having this issue too. My phone is a year old and is pretty much doing the same thing. Tried different ROMs. I'm running the Full Restore FI03 Rooted ROM right now and still doing this. My issue is more crucial. My phone doesn't sleep well, dies in like 6 hours max.
It will randomly force shutdown and won't turn on. It will try and reboot, the screen will flicker and just shut off. The only way I can get the phone to turn back on is by plugging it into a charger.
Luckily I have a portable charger. I wonder if this is a battery issue. Anybody tried using a different battery.

My wife had similar symptoms... flickering screen and shuts down. no animation or warning.. ahd to plug it in to boot the phone again... battery would show 90%, then 15% after a reboot... her battery only lasts half the day, ect.... turns out it was her battery going bad. I bought her Anker batteries on amazon (2 batteries plus charger $18) and it hasn't happened ever since. Its been over a week now since she's been on the new battery.
trust me, just get a new battery, you'll enjoy the better battery life too. its typical to swap the batteries every 8-10 months.

[Q] Desire shuts down at 10% ?

I am running AuraxSense 8.2 with the latest changed sense kernel.
For somehow my Desire always shuts down around 10%, it's crazy! I tried resetting the battery stats, the charge/discharge cycle, with phone on and off. But this al didnt work.
When my phone says it has around 10% left it does not take long before it shuts down. When I put it to a charger and boot it up, it says it's 0% battery left, thats strange because it was around 10% when it shut down.
I also dont see it going to 1,2,3,4,5,6,7% .. it starts giving a value around 9 or 10. Does anybody have a clue whats going in ?
Its really annoying and been looking into it for several weeks, but havent found an answer.
i've ran nothing but LeeDrOiD roms on my Desire, and always found this, never seen anything below 10% on my phone either :/
My best guess is the phone follow the voltage instead of percentage, as my phone shut down from around 4-10%. And whenever it shut down it has the same voltage
+1
if something (music, browser, game etc.) is active, then it shuts down even around 14,16% but normally between 9 and 12. Have never seen 5 - 6 thus far.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yep, I have this issue too.
It's always at 10% when it shuts down though.
I'm running leedroid 2.3
Hmmm... It is (not) good to know, that I am not the only one. On the other hand, it is a bad thing.
Because I want a percentage meter that is accurate.
How is this possible anybody got some ideas? I think this is REAL lame.
Yeah, I also have (had) this issue for Cyanogenmod 6.1.x and Gingerbread roms. It's been a while since I used any sense-based rom but I swear it didn't happen then.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Does anybody have found a solution for this?
On a Dutch forum people are also recognizing this problem. Some say that they don't have this with a new (gingerbread) rom.
FWIW I have a stock Vodafone Desire on 2.2 and it behaves in exactly the same way as you are all describing. If you guys with custom roms etc etc (I have yet to venture there) have the same problem then it doesn't sound like an Android issue?
Well, perhaps it is a Sense issue ?
I have a LeeDrOiD ROM and don't have the issue. I can clearly see 6%, 2%, even 1%. But when battery drops below 6% it is just a matter of minutes when the phone will shut down.
Did you try and calibrate your battery?
Do you have wi-fi, BT, 3G turned ON all the time or you turn it on when needed?
All this can greatly influence your battery.
I have Leedroid 2.3c and my phone shuts down at 10%.
I use really low power settings when my battery comes below 15 eprcent.
very low brightness, no bluethooth etc.
So it is something else.
Do you guys know that li-ion batteries don't have a linear voltage drop while discharging?
Look at this graph, as you can see the voltage drops very quickly when it's almost empty:

Nee, no i did not know that. But it still does not solve anything.
Had this problem even whilst on stock rom before rooting. I've found that if I charge the phone overnight whilst it's off, the battery seems to run down to zero properly rather than shutting down at 10%.
Anyone else tried this?
My battery starts to drop faster at the end but i still se the percentage all the way down to 0 before it shuts down.
I also have this problem now for a while.
When on stock Eclair at launch date I didn't have this problem but I noticed it after changing to Open Desire and still have it on Lee Droid too.
Usually 14-15% for me.
Didn't calibrate it as it appears it'll make it worse in quite a few cases.
i have the same problem mine shuts down at 8% use to shutdown at 13%, rang htc they said the software on the phone is giving the wrong reading for the battery and to charge it switched off for 8 hours, well i did and it now shuts at 8%. im on leedroid 2.2f.
Actually this may well be a case of protect the battery syndrome . Basicly Lithium ion batteries were never made to be run right out of juice if they do it can harm the battery and even stop it from charging all together - Yes i have a phone here (not a desire) with a dead li-ion battery from letting it run all the way down to 0% now it won't charge and the only way to get it going again (if i'm lucky) is to "bump start" it with another battery.
Now i don't know about you guys but i would rather my phone turn off at 10% and charge ok than have dead batteries at 0% just my 2 cents

I am stock rooted
This battery drain is so pathetic, please help me out on this one guys.
I charged to 100%, then played games for like 50 minutes, Plants Vs zombies for around 32 minutes and Kingdom rush for the remaining.
Charge became 84% , not sure if this one is to be expected.
But the main issue was the drain during screen off, i went to sleep when the charge was 84% and the device was screen off for almost 8 hours,
I woke up and checked, now its 66% ???? . really around 18% drain during a 8 hour screen off window
This is so lame, i checked the battery usage, nothing seems out of the ordinary, yes WIFI was On the whole time, is that the reason..
Does the notifications cause battery drain?, i had received some mails and t-mobile my account crap had sent some notification and LED was glowing all along.
i moved from note 1 only because of the stupid drain during screen off, its annoying , i know we can switch off WIFI, data, restart the device and use some app to reduce the drain, but i thought the battery will be good out of the box with Note 3, this feels the same like my note, no difference, something is messed up.
Any help is appreciated sorry for my bad English.
that idle drain seems very excessive. I lose like maybe 1% overnight. have you managed your accounts and only sync the necessary things? that could be a big drain.
Yes thats very excessive , thats why i am losing it, i did check for syncing, apparently nothing was running overnight.
Could be because i have only one point in the network signal? , not sure, i did check on the Cell standby it said "Time withou signal 0%"
i never had 1% drain overnight , would be nice if i can find out a way to make it work for me as well.
Call me strange, but if i am going to be sleeping, I plug it in. When I wake up even with just a nap the phone is fully charged.
i do too.. but i want to check the battery drain during sleep, often when traveling, i wont even use the phone but it would have drained , that's why i am checking how bad the drain is and the ways to fix it.
not sure you need these setting enable or not, but try uncheck all in Location Services under Setting.
Maybe you should start with basics and see what have you changed, since this drain begin?
For example I was trouble shooting WiFi calling and followed one of suggestions to shut down WiFi power save in service menu. It didn't work (updating router FW did the trick) and I forgot about it, but then I realized my phone was discharging 20% overnight (yeah, I charge when come home from work, by the time I go sleep phone is fully charged) and this was way too much. To make long story short, once I put WiFi save mode back on, I get 3% discharge overnight as it should be. The problem with such high discharge rate was that the phone barely lasted a day of light use and if I forgot to charge it night before it would be dead before morning. It also kills battery to have it fully charged daily, battery will lasts much longer if the charge is light (80% to 100% for example.)
Yup, i think it was this Wifi power save option in the service menu, i had switched this off and forgotten about it. thanks for reminding me .
i will check tonight as well.
Bad thing about this setting is, its very hard to pinpoint if you had forgotten about changing this setting, it wont show up in any of the battery usage app.
Go into wifi, hit menu and go into advanced settings. Uncheck wifi always scanning.

Those 2 games kill battery like a mutha, even if you kill the screen. I always use androids built in task killer by holding home button for a few seconds and killing battery hogging apps like those. If i do decide to end up installing those again and playing them i can expect shorter battery life for sure. Ever since i stopped gaming on my phone less and just game on my 360,ps3 and now wii u(kids got 1 for xmas, mario 3d world is addicting lol) ive seen huge boost in battery life and light to normal battery consumption on common sense settings for our phones.

Yeah idk I barely use my phone and still only get about 12 hours out of my phone. I think 4.3 just doesn't like our battery hopefully 4.4 is better.

By low, the table shuts down and after starting it again, it shows between 5 and 10% battery!!
Something similar happens by charging... it shows 90% and no change... and after a reboot it shows 100%.
Is my battery dying? Should I wipe and restart from zero? Cyanogen?
The speed how fast battery drains is also extreme compared to stand-by times... but I assume this is more or less a problem of this tablet.
Many thanks in advance!

Having similar issues. Found mine dead out of nowhere one day. Never had custom ROM on it. Did factory reset now it seems like it doesn't want to charge .... Charges VERY slowly if at all.

i have the same issue, dropped from 50 to 15 all of a sudden , will try calibration , anyone else noticed this ?i picked up mine used so unsure whats the issue
i found better battery life after i did a factory reset. i bought it new and set it up and since then had 1 Sammy update but last week i reset it and it clearly made a difference on my 10.1. yesterday i had 2 hours screen time and on battery for 2 day and some hours and had 60% left.
Add mine to the list....seems to be doing the same thing here. Haven't been able to sort it out yet.
Took the back off mine tonight and reseated the battery connector. Then charged like below. First to time in a while it charged up like this.

I just very carefully went around it with one of those guitar like plastic openers i have laying around from the many tablet/phone repair kits i have used. I probably rebooted it 5 times before i finally popped it apart... thing just did not want to charge. This was the first time i saw it ramp up 1% at a time in a while. The other thing i noticed it was doing was jumping from ~70% to 100% instantly.... The graph showed it too. I didn't believe that was really happening.
some pics would help , is it between the screen and the metallic part or the back and the metallic part ?

no battery drain so far
Since 4 days on MM....long way to go until we know for sure though...so far MM seems pretty stable...equal or improved over the previous one.
Quick update from M - 3rd day, 20% battery left. Thanks Sony
After update to MM I turned off gps, wifi and my watch not live more than day. It have about 5% power consumption per hour. What the problem is?
Havn't seen much change yet.
But even when the watch was om 5.1.1 it did good time. Two to four days between charging. Normal two days when using GPS for running every second day.
And so fare it behaves the same on 6.0.1.
No, it didn't. Not because it was 5.1.1's fault but it was app sync's fault.
I had only one battery drain on 6.0.1 - it was right after the very first setup. The same thing happened to me when I was setting up my watch the very first time while on 5.1.1.
On both versions, unpairing the watch, forgetting it in the app, resetting the watch and then, again, pairing it with the phone while plugged, letting it do its job during the sync process, not touching both the phone AND the watch for some time fixed the problem.
Battery life on 6.0.1 is very, very good. The watch lasts for about 3 days. Always On - ON, Gestures - ON, WiFi - ON... well, everything is on, even location.

It drop to 10 after power ON the morning. When Power Off for the night it was at 46%
So no software issue (and never was software issue), just a deffective (deteriored) batt. I think there are faulty regulator charge circuit in SW3 and the battery overcharged. Just see how fast an SW3 can be charged, not normal charge process.
In general way, when a lithium batt drain faster after 50(40) % it mean batt is damaged.
I have normal drain from 50% to maybe 40%. Problem is after 40%.
So far I haven't suffered the random battery drain since the update.

The battery meter isn't that accurate, its just an estimation based on the battery voltage versus how you use your phone (and the resulting "typical" battery drain). You shouldn't expect it to be accurate to the being within the 1-2 (or even 5) percent range. Shutting off at 4 to 11% is not unusual, and not surprising.
You shouldn't be draining your battery down that low on a regular basis. Its bad for long term battery life. Good rule of thumb for Li ion batteries is short and frequent charge cycles.
However, optimizing apps and/or google process stopped after a shutdown (due to low battery) is not normal. That's a different matter.
I have this problem, plus some of my settings get reset such as my wallpaper, ringtone, notification tone, boomsound (off to on), screen timeout, screen brightness, whatsapp (keeps asking me to chose my backup options and no messages come through until then). This has never happened before and I'm not sure why it's only happening now. I'm not purposely trying to drain the battery or anything, it's just that sometimes on the road I am unable to charge it and it'll just die out midway when previously, that extra 15% could've lasted me for another 30 minutes, just enough for me to reach my destination.
The same problem.. But the bigger problem for me, it's reseting my settings..
It is a terrible problem , I return to KitKat and my battery reaches 1% , and so normal ... I'll make a test with lollipop .
Yes, same problem! So glad someone made a thread for it. It's frustrating and happens literally every time.
Experienced on both the stock and a custom rom. Any one knows any fixes? Is it because of the 'battery life reduces over time' thing? My phone is 2 years old now

That seems to be a problem with all htc ones (m7, m8, m9) as they get older, dont worry its normal
ive been experiencing this for a while, clear dalvik cache and let android do the whole rebuilding thing at the start and you should be fine...as for the battery fix ive just learnt to live with it, 15% is the new 2%!!!
I'm on this problem since a lot of time, as i was one of the first in the community to report it.
Seems like an end-of-life issue for one m8 and htc one phones line.
In my case i had a camera and charge board issue too, so in rma htc changed them, and now the phone is charging and quick-charging like it must have to. But i have to be careful when near 15% of battery because using camera, flashlight or others power-expensive features instantly turns the phone off, causing a database mismatch on the next boot (for marshmallow) and consequently the loss of data.
If the instant-poweroff occurs during boot, there is a massive loss of data and a lot of force closes on the next boot.
Nothing to do here i think, sadly.
In kitkat and lollipop battery reach at 1% ...

thats kinda "cool" to see many people have same problem as i do. atleast it wont run u crazy as before
1. sometimes phone dies when battery is 15%, and sometimes it dies when around 4% 2% or even 1%
2.resetting settings after phone dies!
so is the solution, to change battery? any better way that doesnt need to spend money?

Yes I've done this a couple of weeks back. The replacement is actually less hard as it seems.
But finding an original replacement battery seems to be pretty hard - Even though the replacement I bought is HTC branded and looks genuine, I feel like it's actually draining a little faster than my old original. 12€ Ebay had too good to be true.
However the instant-shutoffs are now a thing of the past along with the database corruption, so I'm going to have to live with a little less battery life.
Or does anyone know of a provider for genuine batteries?
