Software upate - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My unit is GT-N7105. I discover that About device -> Update states that Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available. What does it mean as it is a brand new unit and bought it yesterday? How can I update the future firmware? Thanks

Did you rooted your device? If so then that is the reason.
You can still download the updates from sammobile. Com and flash it via odin...
Fired From My FireDevice

No, I did not do and I bought it from electrcal shop with Samsung seal.

I had the same thing, what I realised is that the ext sd card that I put into the phone still had all the files from my s3 on it including super su etc. I removed the sd card and status went back to unmodified and I could do ota updates. Dunno if that's the case for you.

I can confirm I have the same problem with my note 2. It seems it is because of the memory card. I had a bRand new SanDisk 64Gb one and one day I had the same message. Unfortunately I formated my phone and my card just to find out it was because of the card. I don't know why it does that but I'm sure it is the card. May be more people should try and check and report?

I did use my mSD card of my SGS2 on this new unit. Once I removed it, it changes to Normal Status. How can I use a mSD card on Note 2? Do I need to format it by Note 2?

Does Rooting block access to OTA updates if the official ROM isn't changed?

I have a 64gb Sandisk, and no such problem. Pulled mine out of my Note 10.1. Don't have supersu on it.

I tried to format my 4 GB Sandisk mSD card to FAT32 file system but the problem persists. That is to say I cannot use the mSD socket so far.

anyone kindly help.
according to the internet there is no option for this on the s2 latest firmware 4.1.2 and have to wait for samsung to update it
please can someone clarify this or help me out?
Have you tried apps2sd from the Play store? If not there is always installing a custom Rom.

This is a tutorial how to move them without root. Haven't tried it myself and it has a warning about galaxy devices not working well, but it's worth a rt if you are against rooting.

I have rooted and installed a custom rom. I still have not been able to crack the code on how to install apps to ext sd card. I know there has to be away. I feel the pain of everyone with a Tab 3 7.0. I would have never thought that such a simple option would be disabled.

no point in rooting it then if you cant do it. i have also researched that everyone with a tab 7" have same problem BUT the 10" is fine and so is the tab 2. we got him the tab 3 cos they came down in price so seemed pointless getting him the tab 2..
Think ill get onto samsung and find out whats they plan on doing, otherwise we'll have to take it back if nothing can be done. He's moaning he's low on memory and cant use his ext sd card
My guess is that this has something to do with Google's policy of only supporting internal memory.
It got pretty obvious with SD card "bug" on the 4.3 update for the GS4.

If you root can't you just swap the EXT SD card with the internal one ? or is the not supported on Tab3 7.0, that way the app and game data can be stored on SDcard (this is useful if you're son is playing Games that require a lot of external space, e.g. Modern combat 4 or NFS Most wanted)
Just a suggestion, if this wont work then i will most likely be taking my tab3 back aswell.
Just download app2sd for a temporary option until devs figure out another way

How is using that app a temporary option?
Because devs (developers) are trying tomfind a way to move apps from internal to external sd card or the opposite so as for now people use this app but you can't move any app sadly

Ok thank you as I was gonna root it but if I don"t have to to use this app to move stuff to sd and a rooting it doesn't help that then it's kind of pointless I guess unless there is some cool roms out there

External SD Card Isue

Hello guys,
I am using the Galaxy Note II N7100 variant. I am facing a problem with my external SD card.. I am using a 64GB Sandisk Ultra which is Class 10 AND UHS I card..
However recently my write speeds to the card from my mobile have droped drastically!! FYI The card is still blazing fast on the computer (Via the Card Reader)
Next issue is now a days, I cant unmount this sd card. When I say Unmount, it says Unmounting Sd Card for a loooonnnggg time and then the phone reboots! :what: However If I format the same card and unmount it, it get unmounted easily... SO M GUESSING its because of some app I shifted on this card Maybe?! But for the end of me, I cant seem to find that app IF thats the case!
Any help, views, suggestions and inputs are welcome.. SOLUTIONS ARE MOST WELCOME
Thanks and Cheers

Try the obvious! Wipe cache from recovery and dalvik.
try a factory reset and if all else fails give the phone a full wipe

In that case your options are pretty limited! You can try looking for service codes to access so called 'secret menus' but im not sure how effective that would be but you could get lucky! tbh id be worried that its a hardware issue with your phone and one of the first things warranty service dept will get you to try is a factory reset
Thats a bit worrysome then.. Since my GN2 is out if warranty any ways, let me try your method..

Kit Kat CND1 losing SD card

I have two cards. A Samsung 32GB class 10 and a Sandisk microSDXC ultra 64GB
Both cards were tried, both formatted in FAT32 as well as ExFat and tried sdformatter.
BUT my galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition with CND1 (Columbia Kit Kat) after some hours of use, loses the SD card.... It cannot see it until a couple of reboots.
Do you think its because of a bad flash? Should I try CND2?
Opinions please

unfortunately im not rooted as i want to keep the warranty (already used it twice for screen and battery replacement)
I just flashed the US Kit kat via odin, did a factory reset and can only hope the problem goes away. Do you think it may be a hw fault? Anybody else had similar issues?
Thanks

I'm pretty sure that with kit kat you can't put stuff on a SD card anymore unless you use a SD fix.If you look around forum there is some information about it. I think you also need to be rooted but might be wrong about that. I think there is a app in market called SD fix.

Incorrect. You can use also with KitKat and unrooted as before. The only restriction is that downloaded apps can write only in their own app directory. And this all have nothing to do with the recognizion of the sd-card.

Until now, I didn't see that someone had a related problem.
I hope for you that it was a bad flash. Otherwise I would try to clean the caches and then a reflash but here also clean the cashes. And normally it is better to remove sd-cards before a flash but I also didn't do it.
I performed a factory reset, cleared cache, then flashed the US Kit Kat, again factory reset. Everything works... but after a 15 minute music listening or just out of the blue, the SD card (tried a Samsung formated FAT32) is not responding.
I don't think its a hardware issue, because this time under "storage" i can see the card. However I cannot play anything from it and if I unmount and re-mount it says that the file system is not supported or the card is damaged.
This is soooooo weird and disturbing....

Sd card

I just got my tmobile lgg3 and put in sd card I had in s5 it says I have none or doesnt support file system.Mine is exfat and I dont know if stock could only read fat32 but it doesnt recognize it on exfat.
Be careful, cause I put my SD card from my note 3 into the G3 and it corrupted my card... I had to reformat the card and lost everything...

I would transfer the data off the card onto a pc....format the card..try it and if okay then transfer it all back to be safe. Sd cards can be finicky to say the least

SD card problems, card is always corrupt no matter what I do.

I just bought a brand new Samsung class 10 sdcard, and my phone always says it's corrupted. Twrp recognizes it fine, my computer does, but the OS does not. I keep trying to reformat it in settings but nothing changes, as soon as it finishes it says it's corrupted.
Any suggestions?

The card may not be broken, there is a known issue with the way htc devices format large cards.
Small corruptions will eventually lead to problems.
Use SD card formatter from the net, you'll need to do this on your pc. Don't format on your phone as it can cause problems. I had issues with an official, 128GB SanDisk card, since using that it's been fine.
I bought a Samsung Pro Plus UHS-1 32 GB card from Best Buy, don't see how I would've gotten a fake.
This same problem happened with my other sandisk 64gb card, and it was working fine, but I forgot what may have triggered the issue as it's been awhile.

I've tried formatting it with my PC, using the standard formater included with the OS on Windows. Like I said it's brand new. I'm going to go exchange it today but open the box in the store and try a different card just to be sure.
There have been a lot of posts about SD card problems in the LeeDrOiD thread. Try using a different kernel if you're on clumsy. ElementalX seems to work, and Clean Slate definitely does -- I'm using it myself. Also try to format exfat on the phone instead of on your PC.
Most likely it's not the card, as it seems to be an issue for many HTC 10 users.

It has nothing to do with the kernel, it's the way the phone formats it. Use the app ive suggested and you'll be fine.

A hardware fault seems the least likely and most difficult diagnosis. I'd try a few more fixes at least, including dladz's suggestion.
Not an expert by any means -- I'm just summarizing what I saw elsewhere -- but there are a lot of posts about SD card problems and a few suggestions that there's a bug in the stock HTC kernel.

Personally I would RUU to stock to test, and then install a new custom ROM if that didn't work -- can't think of anything more frustrating than having to exchange the phone! Good luck.
EDIT: Every solution I've come across has to do with the kernel or formatting the card on a PC. Make sure the kernel and the firmware are a good match, too.

Funny thing is, is that I can use my SD card in twrp. I'll make a custom recovery.img and put that on the root of my sdcard to flash back twrp.

I suspect the software too. This started for me after updating to the latest OTA 1.91.617.1. It(Sandisk 128GB) worked fine prior to that.
I tried formatting on PC using the windows method and also the SDFormatter application with no luck. The card works fine in TWRP but doesnt as soon as I boot the phone(Stock OS). The same card works fine in an old HTC EVO 4G LTE and Galaxy S3.

I might just downgrade later on, this is ridiculous that this can happen. Gotta wait til after work.
When I got my HTC 10 unlocked sd cards worked fine and then I put the Verizon ruu on it a couple days later any SD card I tried showed corrupted but did not in twrp or in my other phone so I restored my phone to stock and they have worked fine since.
I'm having this same problem! My card was working just fine, but after I tried doing an OTA update on my rooted HTC10 every SD card I put in is somehow corrupt, despite working fine on every other device. Is there a fix?
Oh, restoring a backup before the error popped up fixed it.
