[Q] galaxy note 2 battery drain issue - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

hi guys first of all my gnote 2 is unlocked but i could not find a page for it.....so iv had this phone for about 3 weeks battery life was all well it used to give me about 20 hours on medium use....but last night i charged it to 100 percent and woke up next morning to find that the battery is completely empty.now its constantly draining battery even in idle mode i do not know what the problem is....i will list my results from the battery manager after a full charge.
its been running for seven and a half hours *mostly idle* and it is on 38 percent now.
android system 30 percent
android os 14 percent
screen 12 percent
device idle 7 percent
standby 6 percent
nearby devices 5 percent
exchange services 4 percent
media server 4 percent
media 4 percent
phone 3 percent.
keep in mind that my brightness was set to auto and wifi was off 3g/4g do not exist in my country.
list of apps on my device.

gta 3
wind up knight
screen off and lock
vol shutter

viber
droid assistant
veetle mx player.
please help and yes my charger makes a strange noise and also gets warm when i plug it in the wall socket and my phones back just beneath the camera also gets warm when it goes down below 10 percent charge and sometimes while on charge.

I'm at 58% with 8hr 7m on my battery, 27% screen, 22% android system, 12% android OS, 9% maps, 4% media server, rest <2%.
Overall, it blows away every other android phone I've ever owned.

you should be in the international version threads. this is for sprint.

since 3g/4g dun exist from where you are at , did u change the settings for gsm? if u leave it at default it will always be searching for 3g/4g which by alot of means drain alot of battery

[Q] Why are you posting in the wrong sub-forum?
This area is for the Sprint version, which hasn't even been out for a week...

wondering about batterylife..(normal?:S)

hello !
i was just wondering if you're experiencing the same battery drain I do.. I am on battery since 7 o clock when i went to school and I am left with 14% of battery now after 14 hours.. facebook updating every 4 hours, push notifications enabled, 3G on, 40 minutes active on facebook, 10 minutes of browsing and a bit of gaming ~ 2h7 of screen on time and 30 mins of phonecalls..
is that normal?! post your results or stats please !
That sounds about right. I usually have to charge at the end of the day around 6pm.
whats your usage?
and hows it about the screen brightness? mine is approx. ~30% so autobrightness if i get into light..
On a normal day for me... I'm txt constantly and browsing and or doing something on it.
My phone is off the charger 6am onward. By the time I get to 4pm... it's very well at about 10% left.
Screen brightness is usually at 25%. I've also recently removed most of the bloatware off the phone which doesn't run.
My autoupdate is mostly turnoff off on all my apps except for fb every 4hours, twitter every 4hrs and my email is on all the time.
Avast is always running and I toggle between data and wifi constantly.
I'm happy if I get a good 12 to 14hours worth of usage before a charge. Mind you I'm only running on a 1350mah battery. I was thinking of looking for a 1800mah. Could give me a few more hours.
Cheers.
why 1350 mah? normally the arc comes with 1500? okay.. that sounds fine.. screen on time bout 2 hours right?

battary life drains so bad(version1.28)

I charged my HTC ONE X to 100%, took it out of the charger and I have now been 1h 37m 46s on battery, and it ALREADY has drained to 70% !!!
what my phone uses or so it says :
screen 78%
cell standby 6%
android OS 5%
android system 4%
phone idle 4%
whatsapp 3%
what does it mean 78% screen? that my screen is the big killer for my drain? because that would make non sense since I have not had it on that much..and still.....30% in 1.3hours? that's just insanely bad!
stock rom from Holland btw...didn't change a single thing to my phone since I do not know how....
any input on why it drains so rapidly?
thanks!
I would post a screenshot but I don't have ''root'' access'' or something lol sorry!

firstly you can take a screenshot by pressing power button and home button at
the same time..
how old is the phone?
you are ok bro. for me it drained 17% with 15 minutes screen on time.
this is one big lol.
i am struggling to get 7 hours battery life
If you don't mind the effects on warranty, there are some system mods things that can be done to improve battery life...
Otherwise try turning off extra wireless services, and lowering the brightness on your screen.
I was getting 8-9 hours outa my battery, since rooted and flashed leedroid's rom and I got 26 hours with 30% to go....
what a difference.....
Basically in android, especially LCD screens, you can expect under 3 hours of continual screen use in daily activities. Often way under.
I've gone through a Motorola Milestone, Samsung Galaxy S and Nexus S, HTC Sensation and now One X. None of them broke the three hour mark for screen on time.
Standby and other use, sure, you can push a day or so but the screen is the major killer. Even with 1900mAh after-market batteries for the Sensation I was just about pushing 2.x hours. Screen usually on auto, but often inside buildings.
Counter to what may seem obvious is that if you have WiFi available - use it. It uses less power than the data connection on cellular networks and can improve standby time by a fair bit. Assuming you use push notifications and the like.

is rooting hard? i searched it on the internet but the only thing i found was some half-assed english site trying to explain what to do...couldn't follow it, and also it didn't work :/
I don't know all the terms etc they use so that makes it quite a fair bit harder for me!
Two Questions:
- What are your Brightness settings?
(Settings - Display & gestures - Brightness)
- Do you have Wifi/3G constantly on?
(Settings - Wireless & networks: is Wi-Fi and/or Mobile network: ON?)
How to improve Battery drain:
- Go to: Settings - Display & gestures - Brightness:
and untick: Automatic brightness
with your finger slide the brightness level to much lower than it is now (I have it at only 1/4)
confirm with: OK
- Whenever you do not need to be online (internet), make sure to switch off Wi-Fi and Mobile network
- Switch off notifications for e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Email (you need to open each app and in the Menu have to untick notifications)
From personal experience, I can tell you that having internet on constantly aka WhatsApp sending notifications for each chat message, Facebook and Email sending notifications, ... costs you a lot of battery
Brightness at full level also drains battery badly.
- Following above-mentioned tips, you will get a standby time on the HTC One X of up to 2 full days.
Hope I could help a bit.

You need to get on leedroid Currently on 71% battery also, but slight difference in how i got there:
16hrs standby
half hour screen on (auto brightness)
5 mins calls,
3g/wifi/locations always on.
Very light usage day for me, but it's very different results to yours
M.
edited for clarity/typos
who would you have your phone on standby for 16hours....I used it more than half an hour a day (half hour screen on as you said) so that says nothing for me lol
and my screen has low brightness but that doesn't really seem to effect it THAT much, but yesn i do have 3d on constantly aswel as fb whatsapp etc...but I do need to be in contact with people so I guess there nothing to fix :/ except maybe a ligh rom but i have no idea how that works haha, might search youtube
I have the same problem but i'm actually using the phone.
As a heavy user (and i mean heavy user) i've yet to get more than 3 hours on screen time with this. once i used it for only 2hours 20 mins and the battery was dead. I'm rooted running leedroid and the battery life is very bad for onscreen time.
Anyone else getting these figures.
hi guys..
i am on stock rom updated to latest but having problems with my battery
take a look at the screenshot. i currently have 30% battery.
as you can see from almost 11 hours of my latest charge 9hours and 20 mins
my phone was at deep sleep.(only 1hour and 40 mins of light usage)
when its locked it shows excelent battery (1% per hour) but after an hour passes and even if i just unlock it and browse a bit my phone ,i lose 5-6% .
my phone is 4days old only.
maybe the problem is just temporary?
thnx in advance for any help.
I'm using an App called 'Screen Adjuster', in which you can set the screen brightness (say 50%), and then auto adjust brightness within the selected range (50% range).
You can adjust the brightness anytime, I found it is very handy because the original auto brightness is simply too bright.
One drawback is that you can click to install 3rd party apk with this App running, don't know why, but just for your reference.
This is what i get.
With surfing a little bit gaming and chatting.

[Q] Odd battery drain issue

Had my 900 about a week now, and in the first few days the battery life was looking good, lasting nearly two days with lots of texts, emailing, a few pictures taken and lots of talk time.
Then a couple of days ago it suddenly got worse. Started losing about 4% per hour. I charged it fully last night and then this morning nine hours later there was only 60% remaining.
I decided to try and find out what was happening. Found the diagnostics app and the battery drain was showing around 164mA. I don't have anything running that could be using so much power, so I wondered if I was suddenly getting a poor 3G signal and the phone was using a lot of power trying to receive it. So I put it into flight mode. Still around 164mA.
Finally I powered the phone off and then back on. Now it srttled down to around 95mA.
So what was running that was using so much power, that got switched off when the phone powered off? Could it be the GPS? I did fire up Nokia Drive and Nokia Maps the other day to play around with them. Could it be that the phone forgets to turn the GPS off when the apps that use it aren't running?

Not sure forgets is the right answer, but you may want to look at the Background tasks and see what is running when it shouldn't.
I know when I add a new app or 2...sometimes I get myself in a position where the battery drain becomes excessive. I usually just unistall the app. You've probably read a few of the battery threads here. If not, take a look. Lots of good conversation about ...well....lots of things....
For me, the biggest drain is Wordament....and its ads....I'll wipe out my battery in an hour playing that thing....
Just finished a series of tests for Background Tasks in my L900 (full article on Mobility Digest). 8 Background Tasks running burns 0.5% per hour, or 8% in a 16 hour day. Tasks included: USA Today, Fox News, Weather Channel, Urban Dictionary, Mehdoh, Network Dashboard, Clever-To-Do and Battery Meter (homebrew app that actually runs every 10 minutes vs. 30 minutes, or longer).
Except for short spikes, my phone always hovers in the 95 to 125 mA range. Data signal is still the biggest battery demon while phone is asleep. Screen while phone is awake.
Sent from my Lumia 900 using Board Express Pro
Overnight my phone seems to have used less than 1% per hour, that's with wifi on but not connected to any network. Perhaps I'll see what it does with wifi off.
I'd still like to know what it was that was draining the battery until yesterday when I power cycled it. I only had the App highlighter app and the Weather Channel app running in background, and I've since disabled the App Highlighter. But they weren't using 4% of the juice per hour. I didn't have bluetooth on.
I guess if anyone is seeing a high battery drain the simple answer is to try power cycling your phone first and see if that stops it.

Cool! I'd love to see a wifi vs cellular data battery benchmark.
Well that would be hard for background activities as WiFi goes to sleep at power off.
I did try to use LTE only for a couple days, but AT&T did not start reporting my daily data usage on my monthly anniversary data. I wanted to see how much data I was using over a typical week with LTE only. On can tell you in those two days, LTE was burning 20-30% (13% per hour on WiFi / 17-18% per hour over LTE) more power per hour when the screen was on and I was browsing or using Board Express. A more comprehensive teat will follow though.

The above somewhat proves how cellular data can often be a big battery drain comparable to abundant wifi at home or other common places. Looking forward to ur tests.
Well the battery drain problem came back yesterday.
The phone has done pretty well however, with very light use (one short call, a few texts, checking FB, checking the weather and not much else) the battery is at 24% after 48 hours. Overnight it went through about 8% in nine hours.
However, yesterday evening I noticed that the battery was losing 4% - 5% per hour again. By yesterday morning it was at 70% after 24 hours. After another 9 hours it was down to 43%. That's having made no calls, only a couple of texts, and very little else. At 9.30pm I checked the diagnostics app and battery drain was over 200mA. There was no obvious reason why it would be so high. So I powered the phone off and back on again, and sure enough, battery drain settled back down to between 90 and 110 mA, and as I said, overnight the battery lost less than 1% charge per hour.
The only background task I have enabled is the Weather Channel app. I'm going to let the battery run right down, recharge it, uninstall this app, and then see if I can repeat this pattern (if people will hold off from calling me!) If it's not this app then there must be something else, something in the firmware that goes haywire after a certain time and starts using lots of power.
I note that some people have observed that the battery starts to drain quicker after a while. I'd be interested to know if anyone can repeat the same pattern I'm seeing.

[Q] N5100 Avg Battery Drain (idling / Standby)

Hi,
I have had this tablet (N5100) for a couple of weeks now and am wondering what the average battery drain for others/you is like?
Mine is draining around 1%/H when idle / sleep (screen off, wifi-on scheduled with juice defender, Mobile Data off, Cell Radio on) with little to no activity.
so after my 4-5 hour sleep it's down by 5-6 %. is it normal, too high/ too low?
my other device samsung galaxy player YP-G70 has much better results, but then that is a totally different hardware altogether!.
Thanks.
1%/h would translate into avg current of 46mA, which is not bad, any higher value would be a reason to investigate. On my device, after some tweaking the standby current as estimated by the Battery Monitor Widget is between 10-40 mA.
Anyway, if you want to find the apps eating your battery during standby, check the better battery stats thread.

Hi,
I have done a few tests of my own.
Overnight my battery drain is 1%(about 9/11 hrs )
I further ran a test in standby for over 24 hrs and
battery drain was only 6%.(from 100% down to 94% )
Good luck
Just want to add ,i get like 2mA in standby,
Also the 6 % drain (in 25 hrs plus some min.)
Include my twitter updates ,weather, market apps update, etc once or so .data off there after.

wow, that's a little depressing! haha
I guess i'll have to go on some app shooting spree and see what i end up with.
As of now i have put google currents to sync only while charging and disabled google now and some location stuff in google maps and that seems to have improved things some bit already.
bad or good battery
I play samsung note 8 without screen off , and screen on just 4 hour
i think note 8 only survive 1%/5 minute
If play 1% just only 2 minute

[Q] 8.4 LTE Version - Is Battery acting weird or is it just me?

Hello everyone.
I currently own a Tab s 8.4 LTE version for exactly 40 days only. I began noticing battery being so weird last week so I will be direct and to the point as much as I can.
A week ago, I noticed that my battery isn't doing so well, I am just a med (sometimes heavy) tablet user ( I mainly chat, browse facebook, read articles, play some youtube videos and I play music as well) I had my battery charged to 100% before a car trip that lasted for around 4 hours, by the time I arrived to the destination, the battery was on 10% only.
Here is what I did on that trip:
1- Had Mobile network connected all the way (used it for chatting on whatsapp, facebook and reading some emails)
2- Listened to music for 45 mins.
3- Played 30 minutes of clash of clans.
When I arrived to my destination, I waited the tablet till it completely drain then I put it in charger ( I was astonished by the fact that when I instantly put the charger in, it read like 30% instead of 0 or 1%)
Anyway I charged it to 100% and went to test it by watching continuous non-stop 204 minutes of movie (Thats 3 hours 20 minutes) and I was happy that it only dropped from 100% to 67% with 50 percent brightness and (Wifi/Sync connected) then I played clash of clans, 15 mins of clash of clans dropped the battery from 67 to 53 so I was pretty much shocked (like 1 percent for every in-game minute!)
The third day I left it in standby mode to test if it drains unsually when it is idle, I left it for continuous 12 hours on 100% (Airplane mode on, no wifi, no sync) and it only dropped 3% in those 12 hours. I managed to acheive a 4h on screen and 1d 4h battery on time (Which made me pretty sure that the battery is not defective, may be just the reading is faulty)
I tested it today. Charged from ground zero up to 100% then I used it. My activity mainly was:
1- a lot of chatting (like 2 hours but not continuous) on whatsapp.
2- 45 mins of music and 15 mins on soundcloud.
3- 40 mins of Clash of Clans (drained my battery in a significant way)
4- Checking facebook notifications, gmail and browsing some websites on hourly timed intervals.
I managed only to get 5h screen on time and a total of 7h of battery on time. Screenshots in attachments.
More importantly, I used it from 100% till it drained to zero then I put it on charger, it automatically read 15%! (Happened to me before that it read 30% instead of zero or 1% then I drained it from 15% to zero again, put the charger and it read from zero%)
Please help me get answers for these 2 questions:
1- Do you think this battery is defective? I own this LTE tablet for only 1 month. Or do you think it only performs poor?
2- Does a game like Clash of Clans really drain it that fast? Like 1 percent charge for every minute or minute and half?
3- How long should it normally take to charge from zero up to 100%? Mine takes exactly 3 hours or 3 hours and less than 10 minutes. Is that okay? Or should it be longer?
Thank you
Can you go back this this thread and try what I said. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2809818. I dont want to copy and paste it again lol.
