Ok, Ive had my xperia play for nearly a year. I have to say its been a good phone and a good gaming tool. But nowdays, whenever I try to play heavy 3D games (e.g. zombiewood, indestructible by gameloft, batman, etc) it starts to lag and freeze so much. so much that I just uninstall the game and forget about it and let that empty feeling eat me up....
Anyways, I think the problem is either: the RAM efficiency or the ROM itself. I am on doomkernal (the latest one) and on the JokaWildv3 ROM. I have RAM manager installed and it usually tells me that I have approx 130-70mb free (this is not internal memory btw). I try to overclock my phone to 1.4GHz but it still lags/crashes when I play. I also think that some apps (e.g. facebook app, google play etc) have a part to play in the RAM since I close them yet, they are still running in the background. Im also considering changing ROM since tbh, I preferred the stock 2.3.4 ROM...
Anyways, what do you guys think is the problem on my phone?
EDIT = Had a look through the ROMs and im thinking to eithier go back to stock 2.3.4 or go with DiXperia 2... anyone had any lags/crashes while playing heavy 3d games with these ROMs?
I use Gin2JB and it's great. My games are quite smooth.

would the heavy 3d games be smooth? And is there a way where I can keep my RAM being used efficiently ?
I can play NOVA 3 quite smoothly if thats what you mean?
You could also try RAM manager

I guess u can play fully 3d games like batman, dead trigger with no lags then.
I do have ram manger and I do get about 180mb free but that really doesnt last long..
I can play wild blood with minimal lag last i checked. Batman doesn't run the best but apparently moving it to internal storage helps. I'm not sure how dead trigger runs. Gin2JB is a good ROM and i'm happy with it. Perhaps you could try V6 supercharger? I'm not a big fan but others have liked it. I like it for the die hard launcher.

have you used any roms other than gin2jb?
Nope. Only stock

As the topic says who plays hd games? I.e. The gameloft ones? I mean a lot like for a good half hour. I have many apps installed, all apps that can be moved to sd have been moved. Problem is after a while the game starts lagging so much I cant pass the level of the game. I have ~35mb internal memory remaining

Try to free up some memory on phone, free some RAM like closing unused apps, and cool down phone.

Once I did that and faced no problems, but I'm not a gamer. Just played 9mm while I was bored back then.

Hello,
I have recently installed the markpython ICS rom and a noticed a problem.
After installed a few programs, but when I see the free RAM, i notice that the free RAM is to low.
I want to know if there's some way that I can free memory in my Xperia Play or if I can put some swap space or some kind of optimization to give some more RAM to programs works.
Sorry for bad english

Try supercharger or something like that or even better would be to just avoid ics all together. That os is just a memory hog and the xplay really isn't up to the task

Thanks,
I will try the SuperCharger V6.
I don't really want back to Gingerbread becouse I liked it. It have some functions and the memory consumption is not so high than my last full stock instalation with all sony trashes.
If the SuperCharger can reorganize my apps, all my problems will be solved.
Sorry for my bad english.

Go to jellybean or try my glazed ICS it has v6 supercharger and some other goodies

I will recommend to keep using GB, ICS is really slow, if it is not slow some applications crashes. Depending of the rom you are getting there is also a post where they fixed the circle button for some games like emulators.
I am on cm9 and usually have about 110 ram free at all times until I start opening apps. How much do you normally? If lower than 70 start freezing some stuff. I like ice features too much to go back to GB

Hello. I unlocked my bootloader to use ics on my play, but games like cod nazi zombies and Nova 3 ect run super slow and choppy. Is there anyway to speed them up to full speed? Thanks.

Not possible. ICS will always lag on certain game titles till the point they are unplayable.
I think differently. When I removed some of AOKP stuff I didn't use, it gave me the extra space and speed. It somehow gained much needed ram. I guess some of the apps I removed ran in background more than I thought. The only problem I have is mupen64plus. It always closes on me. Still can't figure that one out.
R800x-unlocked/AOKP m6
use this !
you can run all the games as fast as you can

You could try flashing a Neo L baseband, i haven't tried it myself but heard that people get better performance with it on ICS
Anyone can play some heavy game like MC4 or Heroes O&C on Arc s 4.0.4. FC with Pureness sp1 and Ultimate hd 2.0

The only game I'm aware of that doesn't work with ICS is Shadowgun, all other games should generally work on ICS, more so if you're using a custom ROM, I'm using Xperia Ultimate HD2, and it works pretty well, plenty of Ram available, just make sure you don't fill your phone with apps that use up your phones storage and runs in the background, try finding alternative apps that are smaller and don't run on the background constantly. If you have a CPU clocking app, make sure it's set to performance and you should be able to run anything.

Ah, no I haven't, I don't really like games on mobile devices, and I refuse to download a game that's 800mb, mainly because I only have an 8gb S.D card, if you check the reviews, people with our phone seem to be able to play it.

if you're much of a gamer, just install x-gamer rom. it's based on GB but tweaked

What's the answer today? I heard they took Xperia Play controls OUT of Nova 3, is that true?
I'm looking at MC4 and Asphalt 7, I need a third game
ZombieWood is a good option. Others: Wild Blood, The dark knight and the best of all, Modern Combat 4.
Other new great game; but not made by Gameloft, is Bladeslinger.
I'm pleased to report that if asked nicely, Gameloft will provide a direct download of version 1.0.2 of NOVA 3.
I anticipate also getting MC4 for sure.
Got MC4 and Asphalt 7. Got to disable AdrenoBooster for Asphalt, still have some FCs. MC4 works great.

Good choice with mc4 its a great game. I got that, wildblood and i might get asphalt 7 not sure if i want to yet becsause i dont play racing games very often and i already have nfs mw. Whats better asphalt 7 or nfs mw?

MW - Better graphics, most realistic, licensed cars, great carrer mode. Bad soundtrack
Asphalt 7 - The visual is not so realistic, gameplay like arcade. Great soundtrack. Multiplayer mode
My favorite is MW, but asphalt is an great game too.

Nice i love the fifa games i had fifa 12 but uninstalled it because of low memory. What size sd card do you use to fit everything? And what rom do you use that runs high end games the smoothest?

I have a SD Card with 32GB Class 10 - Samsung. The rom is AuroraPlay V8.1 GB 2.3.7 Based. The best for me at this time. All games running smooth. Follow the link if you want download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124442

I haven't played NFS:MW yet. Asphalt 7 looks bad in screenshots but actually looks and feels really good while playing. I would compare it to NFS:U on the PC, except instead of drifting mode it has a big powerslide feature they call drifting But it's actually really enjoyable. I didn't enjoy the analog control much, but using the gamepad on the Play is great. If I really want to play a simulation, I can play Gran Turismo 2!
I've only played a little MW4 and Nova 3 so far. I think Nova 3 is actually the better of the two games from a technical perspective. It feels much more responsive and the graphics come across better. It's also better from the perspective of playability on small screens. In MW4 you're expected to shoot stuff that's just a couple pixels across. It has autoaim, but it can be pretty hard to even see what you need to shoot on a 4" screen. But this is just a first reaction to the game engine, really, not the game overall.
I havent tried nova 3 yet. But i heard they removed xperia play controls. Is that true?
Sent from my r800x using xda developers app
Nova 3 1.0.2 available from gameloft
I don't even know if it's true, but if you see above in this thread, I emailed them and asked them for version 1.0.2 which I understood to have Xperia Play controls (from another forum thread, if I find it again I will link it) and they sent me a direct download link to the right version. I can confirm that version 1.0.2 works on my Xperia Play with full gamepad support including analog controls.
Im already have nova 3 1.0.2 version, but the touch analog got problem when on vehicles. Really annoying to control it but already finish the game.
