Help - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I rooted my phone via the tacoroot method then i ran revolutionary and achieved s off. Now I am confused because the phone does not have super user on it and root checker says i am not properly rooted. when i boot into recovery I see
Revolutionary
Vivow_xb ship s-off rl
hboot 6.13.1002
Radio-1.09.01.1111
My question is why dont i have super user since I am soff. I thought super user downloaded with revolutionary. anyway I am hoping for a little guidance.

When I try to go into fastboot it just starts trying to download some update. It says
Sd checking

Loading (pg32diag)
It does not really let me do anything it just asks if I want to continue with the update or not I cant do anything else.

Have you flashed a recovery? It sounds like you aren't in a recovery but are in the bootloader.

I got all the way through the codes and ran revolutionary and when it says do you want to install cwm i said yes it worked for a bit and then the phone booted up and everything, but i dont have super user or cwm on the phone.

Have you installed a custom ROM? Have you booted into CWM recovery? Do you still have the P32IMG.zip on your SD card?

No custom rom, cant boot into cwm recovery, and i believe the zip is still on my sd card

this may be a stupid question but did I need to do anything with the vhwk files like I did on my first dinc2? I never used those files this time because I was thinking the process was different with the taco root method.

If you've gone through Tacoroot and Revolutionary (which it appears you have) and have installed CWM, you still need to install SU. You can't select Recovery from HBoot? You may need to move the P32IMG.zip files from the root of your SD card and reboot. It should allow you into Recovery to flash SU.

i dont know how to flash from recovery. i downloaded that zipfile, so what now? help me hereeeee
1. You need to save the file onto the root of your SD card (i.e not in a folder)
2. Boot your phone into recovery by holding vol down and pressing power and using the volume buttons to navigate to recovery and pressing power to select recovery
3. In recovery navigate to install zip from SD card using the volume buttons and press the trackball to select it.
4. Navigate down to the file name and press the trackball to flash it.
5. Once its finished flashing navigate to reboot system now
Once this is done you should see the superuser app in the app drawer. You have root.

(HELP) Red triangle on recovery

I am rooted and on fresh rom with s-on and hboot 0.79.00 . I want to flash new roms but i am not able to do so coz recovery is nt working.PLEASE HELP ME
Do you remember how you rooted. You either rooted with toast method (PC36IMG file), Simple Root, or Unrevoked?
I bought this off ebay so i have no idea how he rooted. Can you please guide me how to flash rom without recovery?
Busybox installed I hope, and latest version?

There are several different ways to go.
The quickest way (might not work and is just a temp fix) is to download, then unzip the zip file to EVO-RECOVERY folder on your computer. Boot the phone into RECOVERY (with the red triangle), then run the recovery-windows.bat file if you're running Windows on your computer and see does that do anything. Whether or not it works would tell me exactly how the phone was rooted.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38127313/EVO-recovery.zip
The phone is s-on, you're going to need to run unrevoked to gain s-off so you can flash a recovery. You can't flash any unofficial zips in hboot with s-on. Search for unrevoked and your hboot version to find the correct version of unrevoked to unlock the bootloader(hboot).

Toast Method 1 (only needed a PC36IMG file and a temp recovery) or the old Unrevoked (3.1 something, before unrevoked-forever was added). It did not need S-OFF for just flashing ROMs.

Good point. I rooted and S-off via toast right after launch. I guess if someone only did his first step it would look like that. Good point. Speaking of toast, I just threw up quotes of his latest post all over general subforum in all the threads where people are trying to decide if they want nexus or Evo LTE.
They locked the one X down like no tomorrow. Team win and toast can't get recovery to access USB for mount while in recovery. Making me lean nexus.

Did you ever try the EVO-RECOVERY download. No one said anything about pressing volume up and the power button. When you see the red triangle, do not do anything except run the recovery-windows.bat file on your computer (after extracting the files to the EVO-RECOVERY folder) to see if a recovery menu appears. I forgot to mention that the phone must be connected to the computer.
If that does not work, then you might want to go to the unrevoked site and follow their root instructions.

Perfect, the quickest way.
Download the attached files and place them on the root of your SD card.
Flash the unrevoked-forever from the temporary recovery menu that I gave you. That will turn the phone S-OFF.
Then run the PC36IMG file through the bootloader (power off the phone, then volume down +power buttons) and accept the update. That will give you the latest Amon permanent recovery. I also added the superuser.zip file in case you need to flash it (especially on stock ROM if you need it for superuser permissions).
Thank you Everyone

No problem. I just tried to give you a work around to Toast Method 2 (I see the phone was rooted with Toast Method 1 only) which would also S-OFF the phone, but is more complicated.
You could have also used unrevoked, but you probably would needed to unroot first, then install the Hboot drivers, then run unrevoked (not to mention downloading all of those things) which would have taken some time.

I'm guessing that since your bootloader is unlocked, you should be able to flash 4ext or CWM recovery through fastboot (search), and then flash SuperSU.zip (from Chainfire's thread) through recovery. That'll put Superuser.apk and the su binary in the system partition and give you root access.

1.Turn off your phone
2. Hold the volume down button + power until you boot to a white screen.
3. Use the volume rocker to select FASTBOOT then press the power button to select it.
4. Connect your phone.
5. Open up a windows command prompt and navigate to your sdk tools or platform tools folder. tools (c:\android-sdk-windows\tools) or platform-tools (c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools) (ore where you have the adb)
6. Type FASTBOOT DEVICES to make sure your computer "sees" your phone and is ready to flash the recovery. You should get a serial number and then the word fastboot as the output.
7. Type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and press enter. Give it a minute to do it's thing. You should get a message that says writing recovery and success.
(you must have the recovery.img on the same place as fastboot)

Yes, but it's PD98IMG.zip, otherwise the phone won't recognize it . To flash recovery in fastboot in the suggested way you need ENG S-OFF, wich I don't actually recommend to flash, unless it's the modified ENG HBOOT in the Hack Kit. If you want to flash the PD98IMG.zip file in fastboot, follow this:
Boot in fastboot and plug the phone (you will see fastboot usb)
Open a CMD as Admin or Terminal as root in the PC (and navigate to where the file is located)
Now type in CMD:
fastboot oem rebootRUU (you will get a black screen with silver HTC)
fastboot flash zip <nameoffile.zip>
When it is done (you will see OKAY. finished at the bottom of the cmd session), type:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Then check that is correctly installed.
If not just name the file PD98IMG.zip, put it in the root of the sdcard and reboot in hboot until you are prompted to update....:good:

running the Hack Kit with S-OFF is useless. It will probably jam you up. If you wan to root, then finde SU image and flash it or find the flashable zip file.

No, flashing SU will give you root access. If you are already S-OFF don't run the Hack Kit. The hack kit does exactly that...gives you S-OFF and Root....there's no need to do that again.
Just out of curiousity, since I didn't activate the s-off, what are the chances of this being done using HTC dev?
Also, should this be the case, is is gonna affect the root process in any way? I just wonna be sure that I don't miss anything before rooting, especially since the last time I did something like this successfully was 2 years ago on a G1:

Well, you will see Recovery work. It will flash the file and follow the instructions in the Binary Updater file. It usually replaces the old version and push the new one.
There's nothing to do but to flash the file. You don't need to wipe anything at all...It is quite simple actually. Just reboot when are told to do so...nothing can go wrong.

How to restore Nandroid backup?

The kicker is, i lost root on my phone... no Recovery.. i can get into HBoot...
My phone is always stuck on reboot loop.. theres a few odd times where it makes it into OS but then reboots again.
So I was going to my old files and noticed that I still have my Nandroid backup, so if i put this back onto my phone, will it be saved?
I cant even get it too root without the phone rebooting..
What root method did you use? What hboot do you have? Are you still s-off? What were you running prior to this happening like rom ect ? Have you tried a RUU yet? This type of information can help people try to figure out how to fix it

So does the phone need to boot all the way into the OS for s-off to work or it might work in hboot?
i can get into hboot no problem...

If you can get into fastboot in the bootloader you might be able to s-off with revolutionary. Just have to hope the program can find the device in fastboot first. Have you tried running the RUU again?

which RUU you recommed?
do you have a list of the programs i need to try and get s-off again?
I installed the HTC drivers, have the phone in hboot (fastboot USB).. open the revolutionary program and its just "Waiting for device" and its been 20mins
Do I need to install the Android SDK
I think you do, I believe most root methods use a combination of adb and fastboot. After you install it, make sure you're running the root method from the same directory as adb.exe and fastboot.exe are in (should be platform-tools).
i have places the adb.exe and fastboot.exe in the same directory as revolutionary but it still waiting for device...

anyone else know how to get S-Off if i cant get into the OS and turn on USB debugging???
Can you access your sdcard? Because if you can download a recovery and rename it PC36100.ZIP and put it on the root of your sdcard. When you go to your bootloader just go into the menu with the recovery option (Cant remeber atm) and it should come up asking you if you want to update the file. Press whatever button it asks you to press then you should get recovery

Do I need to have S-Off to install the recovery?

He can't do that since he's s-on . You have to be s-on unlocked or s-off to flash a recovery

[Q] Is this phone bricked?

I received an Incredible 2,
*****RELOCKED*******
VIVO_W XB SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT -0.98.0000
Radio- 1.09.01.0312
eMMC-boot
Jul 18 2011
All that it does is get stuck at the HTC screen.
Things that I have tried.
New Ruus
PG32IMG
The phone is recognized in fastboot,
ADB does not recognize the phone.
I have been going through the forum, and websites for the last 4 hours.
Factory Reset reboots the phone and gives me a security warning.
Recovery does the same.
I also get the USB Not recognized error once the phone comes on. I have installed the HTC drivers, I have also installed HTC Sync and have removed it.
Am I stressing and overlooking something simple? Or, do I need to take this phone out back and lay it to rest.
Thank you in advance
Crush
I don't own this phone but how did this happen? I'm assuming your rooted and unlocked if you got s recovery and stuff. And if your recovery works.. just Mount your SD card and transfer a ROM from your PC and flash one.. make sure you flash the kernel too. That or run the ruu

Thank for replying xxLemonxx
I was given this phone because because it is stuck in the bootloop. Phones come with their own recovery, this isn't a custom recovery. I have tried to run ruus, the error I get is Main version is older. I have also downloaded official stock roms with no luck.
When I hit recovery, the phone reboots back to the bootloader, the recovery never comes up.

Ohh so someone messed it up and just gave it to you for free? Or for you to repair? Either way I don't follow the droid inc2 but maybe im sure its rooted if its in a boot loop so try going into fast boot and go into cmd prompt and try to install a recovery. Look up how to install a recovery through CmD Prompt on the Pc. On my phone can't explain all of it. And then just transfer over a ROM probably cm9 and follow the instructions
Unless you want to go back to stock? Not sure if you know about ROMs and kernels?

Thats exactly what happened, it was given to me to me in this condition, and if I can fix it I will get paid for doing so.
Yes, I am familiar with roms, and kernels, I currently use an Evo 4g with Swagged out Stock X 2.0.9.8
Ive also rooted and flash cm7 on plenty of phones, I even have cm7 on my HP Touchpad.
I can't for the life of me figure this out. It has me highly intrigued. I am known for stressing out and overlooking minor small steps, so I wanted get some input from the community.
I currently have fastboot open, I am not entirely familiar with the Incredible 2, but normal case S-on = none rooted from my experience.
it was devunlocked then relocked i believe, from the error message i believe you are not flashing the right ruu, you are trying to flash an older one, you need the newest one, it was released a few months ago if i recall correctly and it was no big update but thats the one you need, search for it and try it it should work. if you are s on you cant flash a older ruu than whats already on it

Hboot 98 is compatible with revolutionary root method. I would start there, rooting and s-off with a stock rooted Rom...

Your radio is .0312, so you won't be able to flash an RUU, they're all older. Can you recognize it in fastboot mode? Try unlocking again with HTCdev, then flashing a custom recovery and ROM.

Hboot .98 isn't compatible with revolutionary, only .97 is, but that doesn't make a difference anyways because you can't run revolutionary if you can't boot the phone.

Are there any roms that you recommend that run smooth on the INC2?

I would proceed with s-off because it's so much better than htcdev unlock.
