i got pretty good at flashing stuff for my galaxy nexus, but now as a note II owner I feel like a total noob.
i have the Telus Model - SGH-i317M. is that the same model for At&T ... all At&T flashing/rooting guides would work for me?
can I flash the international firmware? by doing so, will that mean I get official samsung updates faster?
cheers,

I would also backup your modem with twrp recovery, so if you run into problems, you can just restore. Also some roms are based on the Canadian note 2 as well.

Does the Canadian version work fine regardless if the Canadian carrier is Telus or Rogers?
Is cf-auto root a recovery tool? If so, only 1 of those 3 would be needed right.... Because no sense in 3 recovery tools? Any recommendations please which would be the best one for me?
Many thanks

Cf-auto root roots your phone, it doesn't install any recoveries. Here's the thread, just download the Canadian version and flash with Odin (yes it works with telus/bell/rogers) . http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33854391
Then, if you want to flash custom roms then you need to install either Cwm or twrp recovery. Recommend twrp.
You can install twrp by installing goo manager via play store or download the file to flash with Odin.

After you're rooted, if you install goo manager, it can install twrp automatically. I'm guessing there must be some variance to have a Canadian version.
Just search for nandroid backup for twrp recovery which is a complete backup. Lots of guides and YouTube videos if you search for it or someone can point you to one.

No problem. Well first I would only install firmwares that are in the i317 Devs section.
To answer your question, root > install recovery >do a nandroid backup!>install custom roms
I wouldn't rush into things though before your really comfortable doing so and understand it.

Custom roms are firmwares. There are some roms that are ported from international firmwares and made to work for our version of note 2. All the compatible roms/firmwares are in the AT&T dev's section here, just make sure you read all the instructions and you can always ask them the question in they're thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1874
In any case, I would do a lot more research and reading. There are bunch of guides and tutorials.

I just started playing with the Galaxy Note 2's as well this weekend (all Rogers i317m). Rooted 5 of them, and installed custom roms on 3 of them. All in all much easier than jailbreaking iphones. That said, this forum has been a wealth of information. I've tried a few roms and really like the International Stock Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016575. I will try Clean Rom next.
This is what I've done, and it's been a snap :
1. Put your phone into Odin Download mode, and root the phone using ODIN and the cwm6-root-note2.tar file (clockworkmod-there's some youtube videos on how to do this)
2. Download the custom rom you wish to flash to your phone (eg download directory)
3. Boot your phone into CWM recovery mode
4. Make a BACKUP rom of your existing phone (good for recovery, if you didn't back up all your contacts, sms, apps, etc....this is like TIMEMACHINE and saves to your phone's CWM directory).
5. Erase / Wipe Data (this does not erase your photos/videos, just basically the OS).
6. Flash ROM from ZIP (from your download directory)
7. Erase cache
8. Reboot to your new Custom Rom!
9. If you don't like the new Custom Rom, you can always boot back into CWM and restore from the BACKUP rom.
10. I highly recommend looking into Titanium Backup and SMS Backup, as well as syncing your contacts to GMAIL.
Good luck

No prob. I have 5 Note 2's because everyone in my family has one....at my urging My wife was the first adopter, and everyone fell in love with how functional the device was. Ironically, I'm still using a company issued Iphone 4S...which I loathe.

Hi there,
I'm new to this, but my question is how to I return my phone to stock, I had someone root and add a rom to it and now I have lost my lte radio..but this person tells me all is fine and that I'm completely stock and just rooted, this may be true but the phone hardly works now..
info:
telus phone Note 2
sgh-i317m
but when I check my phone know it says its a samsung sgh-i317 now instead of sgh-i317m, this have made me believe that the phone maybe was rooted with n7100 firmware.
all I want is the phone to be completely stock as if I have just pulled it out of the box
I dont want it rooted or any sort of rom, I need all stock files because I have no backup of any sort also from what I can tell I may need samsung drivers and Odin I have no idea which I need or where to acquire the correct files...
please help

I would flash the Telus stock which is root injected from this thread. You may need to set the csc to Telus. Flash with odin. You can easily remove the root if everything works.

For those of you that prefer CWM over TWRP, today is your lucky day. CWM Recovery has been officially released for the Tmobile Galaxy Note 2.
Instructions for flashing via mobile Odin:
I'm not responsible if you bork your phone. If you are unsure of what you are doing, simply download and install directly from ROM Manager.
1) Always create a backup
2) Download the recovery of your choice (Touch or Non-Touch)
3) Download and install Mobile Odin from the Google Play Store
4) Rename the recovery imagines to "recovery" without the quotes, and copy to your phone (internal memory or extSDCard)
5) Load up Mobile Odin and grant SU permission and download files as instructed to update for this device.
6) Simply select "Recovery" and browse to the recovery.img file on your phone.
7) Scroll down and select "Flash Firmware"
That's about it.
If you want to flash via terminal use the following command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
ALL CREDIT GOES TO KOUSH. Check out his site here
CWM Touch v6.0.2.5
CWM non-touch v6.0.2.4
I was hoping for official CWM recovery for our Note II variant and voila, here it is! No more needing to install the GT-N7100 versions!! Hopefully, these bugs get fixed soon.
And that's why you shouldn't "hurry up and be the first one to post" something before even testing it's functionality.

That version of CWM is intended for the international Note II (GT-N7100) and not ours. Even though it works with our phones (running 6.0.1.9), it'd be more preferred to have a recovery that supports our variant version.
I have also been using CWM since day1 with the note 2...... not sure what all the fuss is about.

Thanks for the post. Is there a reason to upgrade from the 7100 CWM recovery that's already on my phone?
Have you guys tried TWRP ?? It's pretty damn robust. I switched from CWM ever since I got the Note 2 and haven't looked back. The dev updates it pretty regularly which is a definite plus.
I've been running TWRP for a while. I preferred the touch screen interface but I know CWM has it as well. Is there any major difference between the two? From my understanding CWM has been around longer but other than that I don't know if there is any difference. Is there a benefit of either or is it just a personal preference at this point? Either way, thanks to the Op for letting others know.

I haven't used T889 CMW so can't compare the two precisely, but the 7100 CMW didn't backup efs partition and stuff whereas TWRP does. And that alone was enough for me to switch.

I might need to try it out. Also what's up with that crappy rom manager app by the guy from clockwork? It is truly terrible. And never works right EVER. I hate that app.
You would think he was capable of making a pretty good app considering how widespread His Recovery is!
I've used it on several phones and I'd wholeheartedly sucks sucks

Koush is extremely talented no doubt about that, but things have changed. Rom manager used to be great before 4.0. Now everything has become so mainstream and easy. The shelf life of that app is beyond over. Apps don't last forever. Sometimes it's because of os evolution and other times it's because of dwindling interest on the dev's part . That's how new apps are released.

TWRP Bootloop
I've been usin TWRP for the longest time, on my sgs III and Note II. All of a sudden last week I go into recovery to flash an add on and I get a boot loop in TWRP. Couldn't even pull battery and boot system back. Had to odin CWM, then I updated the TWRP script and would still get a bootloop. So I odin'd back to CWM again and staying for the time bein.
Anyone have any idea why this would happen?

hmm really? Never encountered this myself. It's hard for recovery to get corrupt, unless the addon messed up that partition. Are you on the latest version (2.3.3.1) ?
First I will start off by thanking everyone for taking the time out to respond to my question. With that being said, I have the gt-n5110 firmware 4.1.2. I have seen the 4.2.2 leaked rom and roms from other developers that are running the 4.2.2. Is it possible to flash these roms, even though I have 4.1.2? Or do I have to stick to the 4.1.2 roms only? Thanks again.

There are two ways you can upgrade your note to 4.2.2. Head over to the note 8 development forum. There are custom roms that require you to root and flash a custom recovery before you can flash the upgrade. The other is the leaked rom that can be flashed via odin. Be sure to read and follow directions. The information is all there.

Thank you so much, it worked :good: I got back to the old reliable 4.1.2. I think I will just upgrade to 4.2 when an official update is avalaible (no more beta). I don´t know if it was just me, but with the beta of 4.2.2 I had lots of problems such as the screen (didn´t respond sometimes), the s-pen was a little uncalibrated and when I wanted to set an image as wallpaper it looked blurred.

I have the same question regarding a 4.1.2 --> 4.2.2 rom flash... After I do a NANDROID backup, full wipe and flash the ROM from CWM/TWRP can I recover the cache from the NANDROID backup to bring back all my screen setups or do I have to build my setup from scratch?
Many thanks!! I know its a noob question but I've searched for a while and figured I might as well just post the question.

Never a good idea to do this. More times than not, you will run into problems thereby creating even more work for yourself. Just do it the right way and start fresh after a base update.

Hi,
Unsure about whether the firmware version used in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2495122 will work on samsung galaxy tab 3.10 GT-P5210 with firmware P5210XXUAMFA. Can anyone please advise? I need rooted stock rom so as to retain original apps + look & feel (it is a work tablet for my wife)
Thanks

It should be fine. But make sure you have a copy of the original in case something goes wrong.
Actually, I don't see why you don't just install cwm or twrp and the the root zip. That way you keep what you're running but gain root.
And thinking for a second you have to install cwm or twrp to install what you're asking about so it only makes sense to just install the root zip instead of the other ROM. Unless you want the few tweaks from it.

Thanks
Damian

sorry for the delay... TBH, I didn't note my original build anywhere, but I would assume that it hasn't changed, as I have ONLY applied this custom recovery/root process... everything else is still stock. Right now, it reads as JDQ39.P5210XXUAMG6. I *believe* that it is good for any 52xx.. read through the thread, I am pretty sure the question came up there. IF you want to use the Sammy update when (if) an update is rolled out for our device, it will fail. The system is recognized as having been modified. There may be a way around this now, but I plan to apply any upgrade manually... if at all.
Since I have your attention, do you know of any decent custom ROMs for this thing?? I looked a bit, but there doesn't seem to be much out there:fingers-crossed:

Thanks for your response! Sorry I do not. I imagine down the road there will be more development for the tab 3 but I took one look at the development and realized I would rather pay a hundred dollars more and get the device that has a processor that people know how to work with (Note10.1). Also has front facing speakers and the s pen. Sure it hasn't had the upgrade from 4.1.2 yet but I'm okay with that... that's why I root. Best of luck!

Hello All
Thank you for taking the time to read my post!
So I am new to flashing and I have a few questions, I am using Sprint in the USA I have Rooted my device using CF-Auto-Root this is working fine and no issues. SM-N910P is my build and i can not seem to find a Rom that will work with my phone as I read all the postings in the Roms I get put off as they say if i don't have the right version it will brick my phone. I cant find the CWM for the N910P. Am I doing something wrong? Should I be as worried as I am about using a different version of CWM like the one for N915P its on Sprint and its for the Note 4 Edge?
Thank you

Don't mix note 4 edge and note 4 things. Only bad can come from it.

CWM Hasnt been built officially for the trltespr, if you're using Philz CWM Its because the recovery's device model is set for "trlte" All devs build their ROMs to have a fail safe such as reading the devices model. Thats why you're getting status 7 errors upon " Not correct device".
Download twrp2 official and search trlte and download the .ZIP version for SPRINT. Go into cwm and flash twrp2. Then you can finally flash roms without the error.
If you still would like to use cwm you have to modify the updater-script within the .zip file of the ROMs and remove the failsafe commands from it to install with in philz touch.
---------- Post added at 12:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:14 PM ----------
Otherwise Devs would need to build and modify their scripts to be compatible with Philz unofficial CWM, But from time to time there will be people ( just like you ) who make mistakes and end up soft bricking or perma bricking their devices. So they always have a failsafe within the script upon flashing.
