[Q] Custom Roms Stuck at Splash Screen - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not sure where to begin. Here are the details:
Kindle was soft-bricked, recovered to stock using a fastboot cable and twrp/fff/stock rom.
Any time anything other than the stock KF rom (by that I mean that I've only tried AOSP roms instead of stock) is loaded, it gets stuck on whatever splash screen comes with the rom.
I usually wait 10-15 minutes to make sure it just isn't some sort of obscenely long first load.
I always flash gapps after I flash the rom, but I'm presuming it isn't the gapps flash that's causing the problem.
Am I missing something? I promise, I really have tried to search around.

Wipe factory/data reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wipe system, flash rom zip, flash gapps zip, reboot then system if prompted. As well what recovery are you using? I suggest twrp 2.2.2.1 .

I'm using TWRP 2.3.1.1. I think that's the issue. I was just reading the similar thread posted recently, and apparently swapping to TWRP 2.2 will allow me to load an AOSP rom.

I have been wiping. I do a factory reset, then wipe cache and dalvik cache for good measure. Still get stuck.

Did you wipe the system? If that doesnt work restore your backup if you can and use smirkit the return to the older version of twrp http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500935 or fastboot flash older version.

Not recently.
I just now did a system/data/cache/dalvik wipe and flashed AOKP/gapps. 3 minutes later, I'm having the same problem. I figure 3 minutes is enough time for a first-boot.

Are you using TWRP 2.2.x or earlier?

No. I came to the conclusion that I probably needed to change. However, on the recommendation given, I tried one more time to do all the wipes and go for it.
Switched to 2.2.2.1 and it worked!
I'm sure it's elsewhere...but why is 2.3 bad for this? And now that it's working, can I switch up to 2.3? What's the deal?

Stick with what you have now.

Twrp 2.3.1.1 formats in a way the Kindle does not like, according to the thread in development.

4.1.1 aosp install problems

hi, i have been having problems installing hashcodes port of jellybean. I made a nandroid backup, did a factory restore, flashed the rom. and when it reboots the screen goes to fire fire fire bootloader, then a black screen. Then the screen flashes, and the kindle reboots back to bootloader. I have tried redownloading the JB rom, restored back to stock and tried again, and tried immediately installing Gapps after flashing the rom. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
p.s. im on 6.3.1

it wipes cache when you do the factory restore, but i wiped again just for good measure, and tried wiping dalvik too. same thing. i have CWM touch as my recovery and the latest fire fire fire bootloader if that helps any. im wondering if trying with TWRP as the recovery might have any better luck, although i dont know why it would.
Yeah put twrp on use smirkis scripts to replace cwmr with twrp and try again also when going from one system to another always wipe system before flashing rom and jb gapps right after
I believe hash code said not to use cwm anymore, so give twrp a try. I've had no problem flashing any of hashcods or lithiums jb roms. I'm on the newest build of twrp.

Ok, installed twrp, wiped everything, and selected both the rom and the gaps zip. Twrp finishes, I reboot and it does the same thing as before.
Never mind, finally got it working. Thanks for all the help
Sheesh and never once hit the thanks button lol j/k

Am I bricked?

Hello,
I have been flashing multiple roms today in hopes of getting something to work. However, it's always the same situation:
1. Followed instructions for flashing.
2. Flash goes well
3. Reboot
4. Stuck on initial splash screen for that room
Am I missing something? Or am i just bricked?
Thanks
Well, first how long did you wait? First boot always takes the longest. If it takes more then 5 minutes, reboot into recovery and delete cache and dalvik.

It was over 10 minutes. After I did what you said, it keeps rebooting now into recovery mode.
Here's what I currently have on:
1. CWMR 5.8 -Touch
2. TDJ Evo 4 v0
After a few booths I'm still stuck at the splash screen.
You may need a different recovery. The old recoveries did not wipe correctly. I recommend the latest TWRP

+1. Here is a flashable zip to TWRP 2.3.3.0.

It doesnt really matter what recovery he's on. The problem is he's not wiping his previous rom before flashing the new rom. On cwm I believe you go to mounts and storage, then go down to format/system. I never used cmw touch so I might be wrong. A safe bet is to google "darkside super wipe" and "darkside cache wipe". Download the zips and save onto your sd card. Then just flash those two before flashing rom. And you can flash the cache wipe again after flashing rom and gapps (its recommended by some devs but I never got the point since the caches havent been built yet)

I managed to get All Star Rom 5 to load. I'm using that to download goomanager and install TWRP.
I love All Star Rom, but Wifi Calling is a must. I think Infamous is where I'm headed. Any issues with TWRP on that one?

I was wiping and doing all that.
So, after I got goomanager, I installed TWRP. Through that I attempted to install Infamous 3.1. Now, all I get is the Samsung Galaxy screen before recovery/booting, and nothing but black. I'm not sure what I screwed up this time around. Any ideas?

Goo manager wiped your recovery. You need to enter download mode and use odin to put cwm back on. Then flash the twrp zip file that was posted above.

Thanks for your reply. I figured that out after spending 15 minutes looking for a TWRP file to flash through odin. I used CWM and everything worked like a charm. Reflashed TWRP. Then I downloaded Infamous. Didn't flash it through goomanager. Instead booted into TWRP, found it, then flashed. Everything is good now. Thought I was bricked for a few minutes there.
Thanks everyone for your help.

Carbon ROM 1.1

I just tried flashing this ROM. I can't seem to get it to boot right. I installed the ROM and GAPPS through CWM. When I reboot after installation, the Samsung flashes on the screen and there is no boot screen, nothing, black screen of death! I thought it might just take a minute but nothing happens, the screen remains blank. Any advice?

Did you do a proper wipe?
I flashed that ROM last night and had no issues.
I would restore your backup re download the ROM and make sure your version of clockwork mod is up to date and try again.

I am kinda new to this, when you say a proper wipe? I do wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, format system, format data, format cache. Another thing is that I couldn't get my back up to work . So I'm a little stuck. I have the backup files on my computer. Sorry, I'm a noob.

That's a proper wipe (actually its a little excessive but better too much than too little)
If you can get into recovery again (volume+ power and home) do a factory reset and reboot again.
If that doesn't work go back into recovery and flash again. (With wipes again) or flash another ROM.
Definitely make sure you have an updated recovery. (Clockwork mod is up to 6.0 something and twrp is at 2.4.1.0
The new Roms are 4.2.2 and need the updated recovery or they won't wipe and flash properly.

[Q] Cannot install cm11. Stuck in blue kindle fire logo

I am unable to install either hashcode's or twa_priv's cm 11.0. Installing with TWRP results in the blue kindle fire logo.
I have TWRP 2.6.3.1 installed and I did a full wipe (system, data and reset).
I can reinstall CM 10.1 and do a restore, but trying to install 11.0 results in the blue logo.
Any suggestions?

Looks like you did a full wipe of everything but SD card. Before flashing the ROM you only need to "swipe" Then after the install you wipe Cache and Dalvik only. Then boot into the system. I would try to install Hashcodes CM 11 first from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2543481 using the crackflasher mirror. Also check the md5sum of the zip.
If this does not work, it may require you to do a full system restore and go from there.

This is the third instance of such an occurrence in recent times. Let's try 4.3 JB just to make sure there is nothing else going on (if you want?) Here is the latest release for Hashcodes 4.3 JB for KFHD 8.9 jem http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/jem/cm10.2/cm-10.2-20131115-UNOFFICIAL-jem.zip Feel like giving that a try? Only "swipe" in TWRP before flashing and then wipe only CACHE and Dalvick after flashing and before booting into system.

The 4.3 JB did not work. Had to do a full system restore to stock, reroot, and then install bootloader and then the cm10.2. One of the ROM updates must have really corrupted my kindle. The fact that some people have had similar problems must mean that there was a corrupt download or something.
Anyway the kindle is working now. Thanks for your help.

Can someone point me to right file and/or directions if i need to downgrade first?

No, you flash TWRP 2631, then boot into the twrp then select advance then put a check for cache, davik cache and data, then swipe. Once done just flash your rom. I would copy the rom to the download folder on the internal storage (/sdcard/download/) before flash your new twrp.
Is 2.6.3.3 more reliable / stable in terms of making / restoring nandroids? I just got my new Note last week (p607t) and flashed xKat with TWRP at one point, restoring apps from (some with data to avoid re-entering account info or redoing complex settings...) I have had one problem however, when I was almost done restoring, I noticed that I was getting fc's, particularly with games that required an internet connection. I wiped dalvik and cache in TWRP, then hit fix permissions, which I think screwed everything up (maybe due to the bootloader / firmware base mismatch). Anyway, my most recent nandroid was with the fresh xKat install, but fixing permissions caused this weird "hot"-bootloop where it skipped the boot animation but start loading immediately after rebooting, but then freezing before all boot tasks had completed (ex. some optimizations on boot with Android Tuner Pro, FolderMount mounting folders, loading xposed modules...)
Not wanting to re-restore, I first just tried dirty-flashing the ROM again (only wiped dalvik and cache, but did something I hadn't tried before: in the wipe menu I hit "repair partition" for system and data, pre-flash). Luckily it worked and set everything straight... but just want to make sure, 2.6.3.3 is still recommended as the most stable version (in my experience, fixing permissions in recovery can be very hit or miss on any version)?
2 questions before I roll back my recovery, I think these "killer features" (totally serious, #2 has been huge since I got a couple of the newish flash drives with micro usb on one side and regular usb on the other) of TWRP were implemented in 2.6.3.3, but just want to make sure: can you 1) compress nandroids and 2) mount a USB OTG drive and flash from or backup to it? Thanks all, really loving my new Note (massive upgrade from my Note 8!)

I HAVE flashed 2631 for the qualcomm lte.
I've done or several times since you told me that's the best version.
IT WILL NOT BOOT INTO TWRP. it's a scrambled screen. That's all. No touch options. No check boxes. After a minute, tablet reboots itself. I am on stock firmware still. Rooted.
Maybe I should just try CWM. never had this much problems with twrp on any other device.

How about wipe cache/davikcache/data with your stock recovery (just reflash your stock recovery). After that let it boot up, then power down and flash twrp. Once done, don't boot up, boot back to twrp . Let me know how it goes.
Cool. I can try that when I get home. Do you have a link handy for the stock recovery?
