If you are rooted you can install NoFrills or any other CPU manager and change the clockspeed as well as governor to get better experience. To do so, you also need to use custom kernel. Other option is to use 3rd party launcher. I recommend Apex launcher. Good luck

I'm using SetCPU right now. Also a 3rd party launcher but I prefer Nova.

Oh, so you are rooted (I assume you're also unlocked bootloader). There are several well-baked custom ROMs with stock sense look, they are stable and have bunch of tweaks. You might want to check it out.

DARKSIDE Dev Team CM7 Hybrid

Hey guys as I am almost done with this Rom, before I finish and release i would like to know what you guys want to see in it? The DARKSIDE really cares about user feedback its the only way development gets better. Let me know. Which launcher do you want to use, ADW (stock in cm7), Launcher2 (AOSP,and my favorite), or Touchwiz (SGS2 stock). Did you want some stock apps sammy included because you have grown to use it. Like I said let me know, but know just cause you ask doesn't mean I will deliver, I also gotta look at what's best for the rom. Thanks again. Lets turn this development section around and bring it back.
Welcome to the DARKSIDE!!!

For me pretty much stock AOSP and everything that is not needed gone. So better performance and smoother
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I'd say anything that can be downloaded from the market you could prolly leave out. As for sammy Apps, if you can get them to Work, include them, as long as they're unistallable by the user(I personally don't use them). Did you get the audio bug worked out?

I will let you know about the audio when I actually test it. I am still building the rom and trying my personal tweaks. I lpoked into it though.

Yeah that's why I run cm7 cause of everything removed. Love when people release theirs with performance and speed tweaks just hate when they add extra not needed stuff. But its your ROM you can do what you want with it

I personally do not like the adw launcher like on CM7. I prefer stock or TW. I have grown accustomed to these two and are the smoothest I have used. Adw has cool features, but I would like this phone as close to stock as possible. If people want adw it's in the market. Or you can add a flashable zip for each?
Either way do what you have to, to make this ROM the best possible and smooth and I am happy.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?

Hey, I'll tell you, I would like to see some CM7 action going on. The Sammy touch**** sucks balls. I want some CM7. It's alot better, and smoother, better tweaks, and sound. Sammy sucks balls when it comes to Software Development, at least on our phone.

Hello, you seem new to this. The difference between CM7 and Juggernaut, BeastMOD, Domination, Bombardier, and Android Zombie (AKA TouchWIZ ROMs, I like to call them Touch****) ... the difference is that CM7 is made from the stock gingerbread builds, and then the kernels/System files are ported to the device. TouchWIZ on the other hand is full of bloat, which makes it run slow, and isn't as tweaked and optimized as CM7. CM7 would always be far better than Touch****.
Safe Flashing!

Before you make a stupid mistake like others, please don't flash a Samsung Galaxy S II ROM, make sure it's a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II, they have different processors. Touch, a lot of different things.

Galaxy s2

I just got mine and was wondering is it worth rooting becausr stock is already fast and stable
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
It's always worth rooting.
Right now, the performance increase isn't the biggest reason, because this phone can handle anything we through at it with ease.
The root_only features, however, definitely are.
Backups, tethering, painless restores, themes, ad hoc wifi, and all the other goodies that custom Roms provide really make a big difference.

You really should check out the juggernaut rom and also faux123 kernal. I can't express how much faster the sg2 runs and no stuttering or lag. The phone also has much better battery life it's really amazing. Also no spying carrier iq, no bloatware etc. you can free wifi tether. You can over clock or under clock. My phone has never worked so good.
Definitely recommend the following:
Load cwm recovery
Install latest juggernaut rom 4.1
Install latest faux123 kernal
Not required but also install latest modem kl1
If you do then install swype beta keyboard
I use go launcher highly recommended.

DOOOOOOOOOO it!!!! You'll love your phone twice as much. There are some awesome themes and roms. You can make it even smoother than it is. Go to dev section after and try gingersnap with either kernel. Smooth as butter

That's a tough question mate. There really is no best. Its a matter of figuring out what you want and what roms do that the best. I recommend trying them all. Personally I'm a cyanogenmod fanboi and I try to run it on pretty much everything I own.

main reason u should root and install a custom rom is BATTERY LIFE! lol u more than double your battery life, get all the bloat out of your phone, CIQ etc, plus you do get a performance increase, and its more stable than stock.. hands down best thing you could ever do to your phone.

If you are asking what the differences are then you obviously want to try it out but looking for someone to convince you too.. Do yourself a favor man download the 9/13 nightly if you can and try it out for yourself. JB has improvements over ICS that you just need to see. Calm on man you have a device that can hold every rom in here and you can switch back at any time. Don't treat your phone like that give it a chance to try something new.... No more questions GO FOR IT

The "smoothness" is hard to quantify and, to me, barely noticeable compared to MS6.
The RRs, SODs, and in call audio issues with JB are very noticeable.
MS6 also has deeper user feature set than the still-developing JB.
I am super grateful that WHX is developing the JB for our phones.
But I will wait patiently on the more stable MS6 until JB starts reaching full milestones.
My 2.

You have to decide yourself. Some like cm10 some like PA. Try for yourself and see if you like PA.

I have been on Codename-Android (Joyride) for about a week and I am very impressed. Getting great battery with a few tweaks and everything seems to work well. Give it a try
I have tried them all and CM10 the best in my option.
2nd place would be AOKP because of all the customization.
Paranoid Android 2.51
Having the wifi issue with Paranoid Android 2,51, could someone post a link to an active 2.50? From what I read 2.50 works well.
Thanks!

I am trying to decide whether or not this was a serious comment, or if you thought of it, convinced yourself it was amazing, and had to post it.
I too would recommend trying out Codename Android. One of the bigger differences, obviously, is the layout of the ROM. It has more of a "stock" Jelly Bean feel to it then PA does. I say that personally because of the UI for the settings and what not. With PA you have the ability to change the DPI on pretty much every app, and you have so much more customization. Battery life for me is better on Codename Android, but that could just be me. It is different for every phone.

What do you run on YOUR s3

First let me say this. This thread is NOT a what rom is best. This is just to see what everyone runs on there phone.

So far I think staying stock is just as good as running a developed kernel for this particular ROM imho, especially when you want to get the most battery. I use SetCPu and will run min 486 and Max 1350/1404. SmartassV2 and Zen or cfq governors. I don't play many games on my phone, I have tablets for that and they are tweaked as high as I can go and be stable. It's all about what you use your phone for, most times when I benchmark it seems the higher frequency I push my score actually will get worse, might be I'm need to up my voltage, but I don't mess with voltages much. I will follow the developers guidelines for undervolting if I'm trying to squeeze that extra life, but I don't worry about it that much. Best way for me to extend my battery life is start turning things off when they're not needed. All the things I try with my devices I have learned by reading on the XDA forums, and by far the developers for our GS3's are the best and I'm very thankful for all they give up to give us these awesome roms, kernels, and not forgetting about the theme developers to make or phones run fast, operate smoothly, and look great. Without them might as well buy a fruit product, just kidding I would get a flip phone before I would do that. ....
