I'm planning to get a unlocked Tmo to be used with $30 prepaid plan. I'm wondering if the phone can be used with other GSM services later if I choose to do so?

How do you unlock the phone? I'm wondering if I have to call Tmo customer center to get a code of some sort?

If you have been with T-mobile for at least 60 days and you purchased your phone at MSRP than you can call them and they will give you a ticket number and your unlock code will be e-mailed to you for FREE... Or, as some say, you can get it from cellunlocker.net for $25.00 or you can find them cheaper on Fleabay but I would go with cellunlocker.net as they have VERY fast turnaround times and they are 100% legit and have been around for years... If you e-mail them and make a video tutorial and post it on youtube they will give you the code for half off or even free in some cases... hope this helps you?

Doesn't have to be 60 days. If you purchased at a T-Mobile Corporate store or their online store then there is no waiting as long as you have proof of purchase. If you take subsidization then you must be a customer for at least 60 days.
Here are the requirements.
Just going to show buying the retail price section.
If you paid full retail price for a device, you qualify to have the SIM subsidy unlock code provided if you meet the following requirements:
The device must have been purchased at a T-Mobile retail store or authorized T-Mobile retailer.
The device must be paid for completely. You must be able to fax the proof of purchase to T-Mobile.
Is it true that the TMO version is the same phone as the AT&T version? Same LTE chip? And is set up to use the same frequencies?

I thought it didn't support 850MHz HSPA+...???
And the international version?
Daily Deals has the GN II unlocked for $580. The TMO version of the GN II has LTE capability to be made available at some date in 2013. Is the international version the same hardware as TMO branded? As you can guess, I'm trying to decide between going prepaid on an unsubsidized phone versus re-upping with TMO for a phone with HSPA/LTE function.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963367
Question answered. The Daily Deals version is N7100 NOT N7105.

Additional minutes are only 10 cents per minute. If you're a light voice user, you'll save money even with overages. You can also use VOIP to reduce overages.
Personally, I stay under 100 minutes per month just by making outgoing calls using Skype when at home. I use plan minutes to receive all calls and make calls when running around.

You've been able to buy the SIM card activation kit here for $0.99 (w/ free shipping). And activate it here for free. With any of these plans. For a very very very long time.
We've discussed these plans for hundreds of pages here....
The $60 plan is a great value for people who are looking to buy phones unlocked and not have a contract that costs more every month. On the $60 plan, you get 2GB of full speed HSPA+ data, then are throttled to about 60kbps down / 150kbps up (although you can switch to EDGE and get faster speeds). The $70 plan is the same but has a 5GB throttle threshold. If you have good T-Mobile coverage in your area, you should definitely give the Monthly 4G plans a look.

But it says I need the IMEI of the phone from tmobile and activation code found with the phone. How am I suppose to get both? Is there a way to activate the sim without having to enter those 2 infos?
And let's say I buy it from Expansys, does Expansys give me the activation code and phone or what? how does it exactly work? Cause I have my prepaid AT&T number and I want to port it to T-mobile monthly 4g plan.
Thanks man I really appreciate you taking time to answer.

The IMEI is from YOUR phone that you want to use, and the activation code comes with the SIM card.
Obviously, since you can buy it from the T-mobile website (linked by martin's post earlier), it'll come with everything you need to activate. Why bother buying from a third party (Expansys) when you can get it direct for 99 cents?
Ah ok, I just bought T-mobile sim card. Thank you guys.
Hello, I want to buy an SGS3 from Tmobile, but I dont want to buy it with 2 years contract. Can I pay the full price and use it in Prepaid?. I'm a foreign student in US and I want it usable in my country, so, it's difficult to get the unlock code from Tmobile?
Thanks in advance
Yes you can buy it and use it for pre pay. They have a 60 dollar a month plan that would work pretty good for it. Unlimited everything. 4G data speeds up to 2 GB. 70 dollars a month for up to 5 GB. I'm not sure about unlocking it. Someone will probably answer that soon.

just need to retain your receipt and call customer care. they will let you know what else you need to unlock your GS3. other than that, you should be golden.
You can use it for T-Mobile right now, and a few weeks before you return, if there hasn't been any progress in unlocking it with an app or something, and T-Mobile doesn't want to give you the code, you can purchase one from eBay or other sellers.
So, you'll be fine regardless.
Yes you can. I bought my white S3 of T-Mobile because in the long run it'll be cheaper.
Here's a rundown of their prepaid plans
$30- 100 minutes, unlimited text & unlimited data with 5GB of 4G data
$50 Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data with 100MB of data
$60 same as $50 plan but with 2GB of 4G data
$70 same but with 5GB of 4G data
Get one on craigslist for $400 and buy unlock code on ebay $8.
First what's the main purpose of the phone? To use T-Mobile or use your countries' carrier? Both?
There are many better alternative to T-Mobile if you're doing prepaid. Unless you don't need a lot of minutes then that $30 plan is a steal

Well the main purpose is to use T-Mobile and use in my country's carrier. Currently I have a Nexus S (i9020A with AT&T 3G bands, so my phone is running on EDGE) but I want to upgrade my phone so, do you recommend me the SGS3 from T-Mobile?. I am OK with T-Mobile service and the plan's price is right for me (I have the 50$ prepaid plan).

I can get it unlocked for about $5.
You can get it unlocked by T-Mobile for free.
For customers with a Prepaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 60 days of active service with T-Mobile and either a Prepaid Plan account balance of at least $10.00 or a prior refill within the last 30 days.

I just purchased 2 gs3's from Tmobile at retail price. Whatever you do, do not use cell-unlock-.com which is what Ive tried and which was advertised on this forum. They said they would do it for under $5 but they were so slow and at the end of me waiting 2 days, they did not deliver. After paying they said someone will email me with the code within 24 hours. After about 15 hours I received an email saying they could not retrieve the code automatically and would have to do it manually and they would get back to me within another 24 hours(personally I think they were just buying themselves another 24 hours because they suck). Well another 15 hours went by and finally I get an email from paypal with a refund lmao. They didn't even have the decency to email me an explanation. But atleast they gave my money back. Worst experience ever!
Anyway, I never had an account with tmobile. I called them up and asked for them to submit an unlock code request for the two phones. I faxed in a copy of the receipts and by the next day I had the codes in my email.
Let me ask you, you said you were going to use a prepaid plan, why not use simple mobile which runs on tmobiles towers. Just pop in sim and voila, you're good to go without unlocking. Thats what I did.....I went through all that trouble and did not need to unlock lol. But atleast I have the codes in case I want to switch carriers, but just saying if this is holding you up then hook up with simple mobile. Just my opinion, good luck.
Simple Mobile throttles or disconnects your data after u use 3gb of data or more... I have already tried them crooks. But I want to sim unlock a few phones that were purchased used. So calling tmo is not really an option for me. I did one already using cellunlocker but they are pricey at 24 bucks.

It's 70 total. I tried straight talk on att sim, for a few weeks but att data speeds on hspa + are not so good (compared to tmo) and I found it to be unreliable especially in NYC. As for throttling on straight talk. I don't know if that's an issue, I didn't get that far, but i have read that they do and I have read that they don't... Soooo, give them a try, only down side is that the Sims for straight talk is only available online.

is there any chance of the Find 7 being on Sprint? If so, will it be subsidized? I know for sure my parents won't be willing to let me buy the phone subsidized. Thanks!
I would confidently say no. They haven't seem to be breaking that much into American market and it would be a big step, but even if they did it probably would be for aGSM carrier first.

No,the Find 7 is a GSM device and will not work on Sprints CDMA network. Same for Verizon. It'll work on AT & T and T Mobile though, and seems to have Verizon's LTE band,if you have good coverage with that.
OPPO sell their phones unsubsidized on their site and Amazon,no carrier agreements. Works great on AT&T strait talk unlimited.

Yup. There's plenty of math that supports an unsubsidized device on Straight Talk being FAR cheaper by the end of your 2-year contract than any subsidized device on AT&T.
In general, an AT&T contract subsidy is usually about $200-300 discount.
The cost premium of an AT&T plan over a Straight Talk one is usually on the order of $25/month
$25/month times 24 months (well, let's just say 18 since that's when most AT&T customers are eligible for early upgrade...): $450

Has anyone had any luck pre-ordering an S6 Edge from T-Mobile USA on a pre-paid plan?
There doesn't seem to be any way to do this on their website. I went to 2 different stores and they both said I would have to wait until a couple months (!) after launch before I could get one on a prepaid plan. I complained about this on twitter and a t-mo rep said that I should be able to get one on launch day so I guess we'll see about that.
I don't care about financing (I'd actually prefer to buy it outright) so I figured there must be a way to get one, but it doesn't look like it.
I put in a pre-order at gsmnation.com but I don't have a ton of faith anything will come of that.
Other options I've considered:
1. Signing up for a post-paid plan and then cancelling it right away. Kind of a pain, plus it means paying $50 for the first month of service and $15 for the sim card (I can't believe they actually charge you for the sim card when you're signing up for a plan. Total rip).
2. Buying one from AT&T and then getting them to unlock it immediately (they say they'll do it - https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/). The AT&T price is $35 more than T-Mo and it doesn't include the "free" year of Netflix that T-Mobile is offering.
I might end up doing one of those two but I just feel like I'm getting ripped off. Anyone have any better suggestions?
I went the tmobile route. Paid the 870 plus the 50 and the 15 and the 62 for tax. Bought it outright to use with cricket wireless. Just waiting on the unlock code to be delivered hopefully sometime soon. Will likely not be able to get a prepaid one unless you get the metro pcs or the cricket wireless s6

Will AT&T unlock it right away? What's with the part under prepaid that says it must be active for 60 days before unlocking? I'm also T-Mo prepaid ($30 plan) but am unable to buy it at full retail price without buying a simple choice plan. In the end the extra $35.00 would be cheaper than the $50.00 deposit plus $15.00 sim card with the simple choice contact-free plan. But I wouldn't want to use it for 2 months on AT&T lol.

AT&T's site says this
Non-AT&T Mobility Customers
You’ve never had an AT&T wireless account and you meet the General Requirements for unlock requests.
Not sure how that works if you previously had an account that you cancelled but that doesn't apply to me. You should be able to just buy the phone outright and then get it unlocked immediately. The 60 day thing only applies to current AT&T customers.
Oh I didn't even see that! I just tried to buy it for retail price but even AT&T's website won't let me purchase just the phone. They want me to select a plan. Did you try or are you just going the T-Mobile route?

Be Careful with Unlocked Flagship Phones on Different Carriers
On Tmobile Flagships you will have VoLTE and WiFi calling.
IF you get an AT&T Device and unlock it - and use on Tmobile or another Carrier you may not have VoLTE so phone will drop to 3G on calls and may interrupt temporarily your Internet Data and Connection..
Your speed on a fast Network like Tmo may be slower with a non carrier optimized Device.
Your speed and performance on a Flagship Device on ANY Network is unlikely to be equal to a Device Software Optimized for that Network.
If you are buying a Powerhouse Phone for a specific Carrier - you need the Carrier Software to get ALL the features and speed.
The exceptions to this are rare.
All the info about BYOD and all the Internet Articles about Bands and Towers and etc. do NOT mention this.
For example is there ANY DEVICE that has VoLTE across multiple Carriers ?
Or even VoLTE on AT&T and Tmobile ?

Good info, but I'm doubting most people who are doing this care about carrier optimizations. Most are buying T-mobile devices for the unlocked bootloader so they can run custom ROMs that likely wouldn't have this software anyways.
