I want to see if anyone could help me find out what is wrong here. I have tried several Roms and kernels and I have had issues in when the phone is charging overnite I wake up and find my phone in a download mode state, I mean it looks like the download mode screen and says something about power mode, and all I can do is to hold down power button and reboot and it works fine. It only happens while charging overnite. The only Rom that I have have not experienced it with is blackjelly v6, so I dont think its the phone, but I would like some input. Thanks in advance.

I had this same problem on my gs2 it was my charger. Make sure your using the one that came with it or try a different one

I'll try that. But what I don't understand is that this only happens with any ROM other than black jelly which i have been using without problems, but any other ROM and the problem arises.

Haven't experienced any issues like that even with my custom ROM. I use LG wall charger for overnight charging. Try zxrider06's suggestions then we'll see where we can go from there. Good luck!
I'll try that, but for now I'll stick with black jelly. Thanks for the suggestions.

it does this on both ICS and GB roms. Any Kernal, Modem or Recovery..
Im trying to delete the custom binary count so I can try and swap the phone out. Unless anyone here has a fix?
Ive tried everything. Cleaned the usb port, wiped battery stats, installed different roms, kernals and modems. Removed battery for half hour, unplugged.
None of the above worked.
i would start with a new charger

I doubt a new charger will help. Ive got the same problem. went to ics 4.0.3and started getting the voltage too high. Battery drained fast and computer wont recognize it to odin back to stock. tried differant drivers differant cords differant usb ports restarted both devices. i flashed back to GBand no voltage message but the charge indicator light stays on and the battey still drains. And my computer still wont recognize it. Anyone know a way to use rogue recovery to flash back to stock so i can take it to sprint
Its the charger..anything higher than 1A is a no go
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Its not the charger
I had that problem on CM9 A2 and AOKP 32 and 34 but not on 35.
But in my case was temporary when problem suddenly goes away on both cases went back as fast as possible to stock.
Haven't seen that problem again, I try to sitick only with ICS TW leaks or stock for now until source is out.

sorry im still kinda confused by your post. it says .....bricked(?) voltage....... and u seem to be able to use 2 roms at minimum...ics and gb, correct? I'm just trying to understand, that's all. what will/wont your phone do? and just for ****z and giggles take your battery out set it on something flat like dinner table, desk, counter and try to spin it. if it starts freely spinning then ur battery is bad or damaged (would spin from battery swelling and not being flat anymore) and or just try a new or used known good battery. i know it doesn't seem but this could very well be a battery issue. couldn't hurt

I did that, I also restored my kernel wiped the system and it is not even recognized by the computer anymore...
Mine did that the other day when I switched from rooted stock JB to CM10 preview builds.
I don't believe there is any correlation there, or that it's a software issue at all.
I blew out my USB port with compressed air at 90 psi; it works again.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk 2
is the port bent? try plugging it in and press slightly up from the underside of the cable.
USB port failing, common issue with Samsung phones. Changing ROMs/kernels won't help.
Oddly enough I took the battery out for an extended period and then I put it back in and now all works fine...should I look into getting a new phone do you think?:silly:
I noticed this happening to my wifes SGS2.. the way you fixed it is the exact thing that fixed hers... So I don't think a replacement will help much.
I have had an extremely slow charge rate today. Plugged in for 5+hours and only made +60% charge.
Mostly while phone was off.
When its on i make almost no progress doing only light texting.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Just flashed to latest kernel and ROM .

What were you charging from? Was something perhaps running in the background on your phone that would eat current (i.e. would eat battery life off charger)?

im using cm10.1 stock kernel now, charges fast. when i was using kt kernel there was an option for fast charge in the ktweak settings
I was charging from ac even tried different chargers.
I checked BBS and no i don't think so.
Like i said the gain was nominal even with the phone off
I think it's something with KT's kernel running with tasks ROM that causes this.. I was using the same see setup and had bad battery life and slow charging. I suggest using tasks underwear kernel that came with his rom

My phone's a GNex running the latest CM10.1 nightly and I came across this same issue while searching for a solution. I may have a different phone, but after some people suggested kernel switches, I tried it out. For some reason I was running CM's kernel even though I could have sworn I switched it out due to broken bluetooth. I re-installed lean kernel and bam, fixed. Didn't think it would work because my phone wasn't detecting any charger at all, but as soon as I rebooted with the new kernel, it started charging again.
I am having the same issue!
How do I install a different kernel and where do I find the link to the kernel that worked for you.

Hey everyone, I've tried posting this in the battery life thread but I've gotten no help in resolving this issue. This morning I unplugged the phone from the charger(I leave it plugged in overnight) and the phone dropped 20 perecent of the battery in under 15 minutes. At this point the only thing i was doing with the phone was checking a text message I had recieved.
I have optimized my phone so that I it only updates email and many other services manually but regardless a 20 percent drop in 15 minutes is not acceptable. I have calibrated my battery using the battery calibration app which hasn't worked. I have rooted my phone and am currently using the stock bell rom. Additionally, I am also using nova launcher on my phone and that is about it. The only strange thing that I've done to my phone is use a blackberry charger to charge my battery but I don't think this is the issue.
At this point I am beyond frustrated with this device need a solution now or I'll have to take it in to get fixed. Does granting root access void my warrenty? Do I need to unroot before I go to bell. I will post images of my phone stats in the next post.
thank you in advance for your help.

Before you send it in or take it somewhere, download" Better Battery Stats" and see if you can target where the drain is coming from. And yes, you will need to return to stock but before you do you will need to run the triangle away app. That will reduce your flash counter to 0. I'm betting you will be able to find out the problem with Better Battery Stats though. Check your PM's. I sent you something helpful that I didn't wanna post on here.

I don't know what Kernel I'm using but I am using the stock Jellybean rom. I've basically just given myself root access and installed the latest stock firmware. I am using my original charger(plugged into the wall) and last night i left my phone plugged in for over 8 hours so its definitely getting a full charge.
When I was am girlfriends house I used her dads blackberry charger to charge my phone but I don't think that would have wrecked the battery in such a way. I have noticed that the battery seems to draing very rapidly up until about 75% at which point battery consumption returns to normal. I can try charging my phone whilst plugged into my pc if you think that maybe make a difference.

Ok. I gotcha. The charger thing only matters if you use the wrong charger all the time. It doesn't charge it properly. It doesn't do any permanent damage that I know of. I would advise using the Samsung charger whenever possible. Anyways, let your battery drain all the way down to 0 til the phone shuts itself off then charge it all the way back to %100 without taking it off the charger. This should recalibrate your battery. It just got knocked outta wack. It happens sometimes. Let me know if this works. And by the way, you're probably running the stock kernel. You can always get that info by going to settings/about device. Let me know if this helped.

I have a friend who had the same problem, he had to get his phone turned in because his motherboard was malfunctioning.
He ended up getting a full phone replacement and hasn't had the problem since.
If you continue to have this issue I'd definitely get it looked at by your providers retail location.
edit: If you root you will want to avoid tripping the flash counter, which from what I've seen lately is very difficult.
Telus flat out told me in the store that they don't even care if it's rommed and have asked me what I like to use for roms etc which is nice, I don't know if Bell is as lenient.
Best of luck.

The previously mentioned %68 after 5 hours is pretty typical of what I get running stock kernel with ParanoidKANGdroid 1.40. That's while I'm at work, so I'm usually connected to WiFi, on silent, with most of my usage during that time being texting, but I do usually play games on my lunch. I have thought that was a bit excessive drain, so yesterday I set up CPU Editor and set my maximum CPU frequency to 702 MHz. I got pretty close to the same drain.
Today so far, I have the stats uploaded, and that seems much better to me so far.

Thanks for posting this thread, I'm having the exact same problem. It's been an interesting go for me.
Some times it does it and other times it doesn't.
I'm using cyanogenmod nightly from 1.3.13 with the latest ktoonez kernel and I've noticed that today, it's sucking battery more than ever. I'll attach a screenshot, but I think there might be something with the charger as mentioned earlier in the thread. When I charge it at night, I'm charging it off an old blackberry micro usb cable with a generic AC to usb plug.
I'm going to let this thing drain out and die and charge it back up to 100% and see if that works for me.

It definitely helped me. The main advantages that I see with running the kernel that I use is the ability to undervolt & overclock it. This will allow you to run the same frequency that you normally would but at a lower voltage therefore reducing heat & battery consumption. Google it & do some reading & educate yourself on it before you make your decision. I am glad that I decided to do it.

Yes I think AOKP will allow you to change some settings around. It will allow you to set you min/max clock speed & your gov & scheduler. A custom kernel will give you different gov, schedulers, & different min/max speeds. I use Ktoonsez's kernel & it comes packaged with an app called Ktweaker. He advises to use this app to control your kernel settings. I don't think that they will apply properly if you don't. Also you can undervolt with Ktweaker.

I recently rooted/rom'd my phone I was running the Alliance ROM for about a month. Yesterday the problem began:
-Unplugged, dies then boot loops the NOTE 2 logo
--can get it to recovery just fine
---I wiped and reinstalled Alliance, still continued
Next I Odin to stock via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2780984. Odin'd ok. Runs fine as log as its plugged in.
-Still, Unplugged, dies then boot loops the NOTE 2 logo
-New issue, red x on Sprint Signal.
If it stays plugged in its fine. Seems like it could be a battery/hardware issue. Any ideas? Seems like I've seen this issue before from others. Can't find anything though.
Edit: Now reboots while plugged in, will actually boot to home screen through.
99% sure your battery is the issue.

Also, I'm using the charger that came with my wife's Galaxy S4. For some reason I think the charger is part to blame. Evidence is inconclusive though.
Rarely is it the charger that causes an issue. The main cause is age. This device has been out for a long time. Even if you purchased the device new today it is possible that parts of it were made a year or two ago.
If you know someone that has a note 2 try using their battery to see if it changes anything. If not a new battery is a cheap purchase although do suggest buying a name brand replacement. Those super cheap one can cause more issues.
