[Q] Flac file player - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do you guys know any player that plays flac files? I tried most of the players already. From winamp, n7, mx and what not. None of the players seem to play flac file on the note 2. I have a note 1 previously, and winamp or sony walkman or other players seem to play flac files. Any help would be appreciated. Plus, my note 1 can play mkv files without a hitch. Whatever I throw in doesn't matter. It plays almost everything. Note 2 plays it but with out a sound

No problem to play flac file with stock player or PowerAmp. Maybe a codec problem ? Mediainfo gives this about one of my file :

Are you using a stock rom? I am using a custom rom from android hd. Are you able to play mkv files as well perfectly?

FLAC works perfectly on the stock ROM in the stock player and PowerAMP, I expect it should in all players since the S3 supports the format. Something sounds wrong there...
MKV also just fine on stock.

I will try Omega Rom 5.0. Maybe I'm just no lucky.

Android revolution hd is a 99% stock rom so it should work...
maybe it didnt download/transfer properly?

Running DOS on the DASH

Does anyone succed in getting PocketDOS running on the DASH ?
.exe launch said "not for this device".
help much appreciated !
So nobody have been able to run DOS on a Dash/S620 ??
This does work:
Download
http://www.pocketdos.com/PocketDOS/PocketDOS_111.exe
Unzip (do not execute!) PocketDOS_111.exe
Go into the Smartphone Directory of the unzipped PocketDOS_111.exe
copy DR-DOS_703.CAB and PocketDOS.arm_400sp.CAB on the phone.
Run and install both CAB files on the DASH.
Once done, get the Landscape mode update here:
http://www.pocketdos.com/PocketDOS/PocketDOS_111_SPL_Beta5.zip
Unzip & update the pocketdos.exe file to the DASH.
P.S: the Landscape mode beta seems a bit buggy with the keyboard.
In order to fix the issue you have to assign the numbers key to their corresponding letter using the CUSTOM menu.

Its working fine per the install instructions above, however the keyboard support is a problem. I'm unable to get it configured to work well enough to be useful, but I haven't spent too much time on it.
It does partially work if you switch between the CUSTOM mode & the others one.
There are two further test (beta) versions available from:
http://www.pocketdos.com/PocketDOS/PocketDOS_111_SPL_Beta7.zip
http://www.pocketdos.com/PocketDOS/PocketDOS_111_SPL_Beta8.zip
These versions specifically address the numeric/alpha key issue.

[Q] Anyone got the video decoder of salsa ROM? It's better than those in CM

I'v tryed many ROMs on espresso.
Hers's a video(parameters of the video will be list at the end of the thread), when I tryed to play it using Moboplayer, ArmV6-vfp decoder package installed, It works fine with salsa ROM, but a tragedy with CM ROM,no matter harddecoder or softdecoder.
I've also tryed some other ROM, 2.2, 2.3. None of them work better than the salsa ROM on this video.
what's more, the default video player in salsa ROM can play the video fluently.
Does that mean the display drivers in the salsa ROM better than any else?

hey chinese guy too? but my cm7 rom works will in hardware decoding both mobo mx or system player.

[Q] HS video decoding problem... I'm about to give up.

Hello. My saga starts in this thread. I'm trying to run my 720p mkv video files smoothly in my Arc S (arconium 7.2, .64 baseband). Firstly I installed many video players from market (I even bought DicePlayer, which is great) but no one of them could run all mkv ok. A xda fellow told me about H264leveleditor, that I should use it to down my mkv file levels to 3.1, and it would resolve my problems. Well, in part, it worked. 30% of my video files began to run like a dream (in HW decoding mode) When the H264 level was in 4.1, the players worked only in SW mode, which was awful. The developer of DicePlayer told me that Qualcomm processors have a weak point in decoding mkv videos, but if it's true, why some videos run ok and some of only run laggy and out of sync?! Example: I run The.Big.Bang.Theory.S05E05.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION perfectly (hw decode), but The.Big.Bang.Theory.S05E17.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION run only in SW decoding mode. Isn't these mkv videos "identical"? Why one of them can run and the other one can't, if both of them is 720p mkv (3.1 H264 level)?
Sorry for the bad english but please, help =(
EDIT: Type mistake on the thread's title... it's HW video decoding problem...
I instaled MediaInfo and compared two videos... One of them run in HW mode (runs like a dream, even without overclock) and the other only in SW (runs awful).

Tried Rockplayer? I just watched an episode of Himym, and it ran great. Fps and quality all fine.
E: oh HW decoding? My mistake.
Yeah... HW decoding. Is it possible to edit the title of the thread?!
Anyway, the developer of DicePlayer answered my email and said:
"Hi,
I don't know exactly the difference. I guess that the main reason is the count of reference frames (5 vs 8), but I'm not sure. The HW codec of tegra2 sometimes takes some more time to decode some frames (may be b-frames) as expected.
Thanks."
I'll try to check it later...
And yes, I tried rockplayer. It can't run some mkv's in HW decoding mode
Like I said in the other thread, for me also any difference between videoas that works and do not works were re-frames. And you cant change it without re-encode whole video and this takes time. For me with amd phenom II 4x3.4ghz it takes about 15 min for 20 min video. Shame that re-frames cant be changed like profile level I think that newer releases o mkv videos are encoded with newer rules that scene must follow (like with profile level, that's required to be 4.1 at least for what I know) so less and less videos are gonna work on our arcs
I discovered a new method to resolve this problem... Later on I'll make a tutorial

[Q] Video Playback on Note 2 (GT-N7100)

I've been using MXPlayer to play video files on my phone and while it usually doesn't have a problem playing most of the files, there have been a few where it would only play the sound and not the video. I never had problems of the video not playing at all, though. And also, there are some files which play both sound and video but the video is quite laggy.
I'm not familiar with how phones and codecs and whatnot work (when I still had a desktop, I would watch my videos there and when the videos didn't play right, all I had to do was download and install codec packs but I'm not sure if you could do that with a phone...). Anyway, to make things a bit simpler (I think), I've posted below the media info of the video files that only played sound and no video, and the laggy one.
NO VIDEO, JUST SOUND (Also, these won't show subs)

I wanna know if there's something I can do so that I can watch these files on my phone (coz my media player can't play most of these files, either). Can I download codecs or may be a specific player off the market or do I have to do some video conversions?

External Player On XBMC

I am trying to Use MXplayer as the default player in XBMC. I have created a playercorefactory.xml and set it up. I have Also side loaded MXPlayer. I am trying to play a video over my network and When I click on it XBMC says external player active press OK after playback has ended. The Problem is that the video doesn't start. here are my XML settings

Why use MX player? Xbmc internal player works great is you disable mediacodec and enable libstagefright. The reason its not working for you is the external player cant see your network share as the fireos does not have native smb support.

Thank you for your reply. I thought that my be the reason. I have tried just using the Default player in XBMC with just libstagefright enabled, but my MKV playback is still jittery. It says that it isn't dropping or skipping frames, but playback isn't smooth. It does it will all MKV's (that is all I have) it doesn't matter if its a 500MB or a 10GB file. I can't seem to get it to play smooth.

How Big are they?
Are you doing Audio Pass through?
Mine all have AC-3 or DTS Audio
Most are less then 2 gigs none with ac3.

That is the difference I think. I have 5+GB files they all play however they are not smooth.
Did you try both stagefright and mediacodec separately?

I have and the Software Option. I am at a loss. Coming from the WD Live TV I notice the jitteryness a lot on the AFTV. The WD Box plays so smooth and has way less power that is why I wanted to upgrade, but this is not going to work for me
Here are some test videos I made with my Nexus 5 so you can see
XBMC Test Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eo2PdrfyG8&feature=youtu.be
WD TV Test Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynEPRs8vY0U&list=UUgmonRVLT9iEY0sGR1u20Ig
Both Boxes are on the Same Network playing the same file.
What codec is the video?

So in short All Blu-Ray Rips x264 will be jittery? I haven't run into a an MKV that wasn't AVC
Also on the Amazon FireTV XBMC wiki under known issues it only says
VC-1 and MPEG2 are not hardware decoded in XBMC on the Fire TV.
Unfortunately for now that is correct. However its not supposed to support mpg2 either but recently that has been fixed.. The hardware itself supports it but I'm guessing amazon didn't license it for their firmware. My mkv's are lower quality h264.

Well I thank you for trying to help me.
No prob.. Have you tried playing one from a thumbdrive with mxplayer? You might want to check over at xbmc.org there may be developments I am unaware of.

what?
can you please double check stuff before posting it...
AVC and VC1 are totally different things..
AVC files play fine, your issues must have something to do with your hardware acceleration settings.. i have no issues with 100's of full quality (30GB) blu ray rips and they all play fine. Theres thousands of others with no issues playing the same files your are talking about.. so its got to be something on your end.. and nothing to do with the FireTV

Your right .. My bad got the two confused for a sec.. However this is copied from the Dev sticky right here at xda and may help the op..
AVC, 1080p, High @ 4.1, DTSHD-MA, 5.1 - Video and audio plays fine as long as you disabled DTS-HD passthrough and run as stereo
As I recall you can still get surround by setting 2 channels, in check DTS capable on pass though settings and checking ac3 transcode..
