Galaxy keyboard conundrum - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know how to add new words to the keyboard please?
Also is there a gesture when writing with the s-pen that adds a space or do I have to physically tap the space bar every time?
It just makes the process clunky and I'm hoping somewhere there's a setting that predicts spaces?
Plus. .. How on earth do I write a comma? It's a pain there isn't a dedicated comma button on the front of the keyboard!
Cheers folks. .. loving my note!

using the handwriting mode it types whatever you write on the screen.
this means if you leave a space between 2 written words it will also type a space.
if for some reason it fails to type a space you can slide the letter after where the space should go to the right to manually add a space.
by drawing a large "return" line(like the arrow on many enter keys) you can clear the handwriting area so you have space to write more words, and if you draw another return line the cursor will jump to the next line.
for a comma you can just write one on the handwriting keyboard, press the Sym key, or hold the period key.
it helps to read the tutorials in the samsung keyboard settings.

Sir, you are a genius! Thank you, the guide was really helpful.

No ability to edit user dictionary?
I am searching through menus and see no way to edit user dictionary. I can add/remove words with long taps in auto-suggest field though as I type.
Am I right and there is no way of just editing user dictionary directly?

GO Keyboard - stop processing the hardware keys!

Currently on CM7.1, using the latest version of GO Keyboard. Does anyone have any idea on how to disable prediction for the hardware keyboard?
The thing is, when inserting special characters (such as ă,î,ș) the SMS character number shrinks from 160 to 70 (some Unicode boulderdash is involved).
Whenever I send long messages (and I usually do) I use the hardware keyboard in order to avoid inserting special characters, so that's my way of disabling prediction.
I don't want to use Swype/MultiLing or other keyboards because they add special keys for Romanian characters, which I find pointless (prediction can be done using a normal English QWERTY layout) and also space-wasting.
So, any ideas? Can this be done?
As a workaround, I have Catalan selected as another language (don't have the dictionary installed for it) and use that when typing on the HW keyboard.
Try z arrow from the market. It lets you use the menu key for copy, paste, and directional arrows. It also has a switcher that will swap keyboards when you rotate the screen.

Swype Auto spacing does not work in browser

So I dont know if it is just me but has anybody noticed that swype does not work right in the internet browser. Say you want to make a post much like I am right now in a text box much like the very one I am typing in right now. Well when I am typing along all the words are to together just like they would be if I was typing in the address bar. Its as if swype does not know that I am not typing in the address bar and am in a text box instead. Any way its a bit annoying having to have to hit the space bar in between each word. I would not mind if I was on a full size keyboard and not swyping my words but with one hand and my thumb I dunno kinda pain in the arse.
Perhaps im an idiot and dont have a setting on. I did check the auto spacing between words in the swype settings. It works great as when I am text messaging but does not work in the internet browser. Anybody eles notice these problems?
I noticed this too, in certain fields that it will not auto space.

I think this has always been the behavior with Swype. I guess it assumes you're entering a url instead of using the field to search.

check the swype forums it is a known buy they haven't fixed in months...no idea why they let it continue should not be hard to fix

Customize User Dictionary

Has anyone been able to change or update words in their user dictionary? I use the standard Samsung Keyboard, but I cannot find a setting for user dictionary anywhere. I can goto options for the samsung keyboard, but it will only learn from gmail, facebook, etc. Any help would be appreciated.
PS
The samsung keyboard letters are grayed out in language and input, but I can click on the cog next to it to get to settings.
I tried the Swype, but couldn't figure it out either so I went back to my trusty old SlideIt. Easy customizable dictionary + resize keyboard however you like + move keyboard to left or right side for one-handed typing + many more customizations, including how long you want to longhold a key to get the upper character (min. time is 0.1 sec!). Get the paid version. It's better.

Does it have the numbers separately set above the keyboard? Each of the keyboard I have looked at don't have this feature which keeps me using the stock keyboard.

Numbers are, like on a regular laptop/desktop chiclet keyboard, superscripted on the top row of keys (i.e. the qwerty row). So to access the #1, you longhold 'q'. In settings, you can adjust the longhold duration. Mine is set to 0.1 sec, which is so short a time that it is almost the same as having a dedicated #1 key. It's so quick that as I'm getting used to it, I've unintentionally typed the longhold characters quite a few times.

That's based on the older ICS keyboard. Notice on the note 2 with jellybean keyboard you get a separate set of number keys, allowing them to add even more special characters to the letter keys? Trying to retain that. Think I found a few new ones tho. Thx.
anyone able to edit user dictionary ... or import text file ... right now its learning from facebook and gmail but cannot import it by whatsapp ... software like User Dictionary manager show blank dictionary

Tips for using 4.2 keybaord (like swearing)

One of the things that drove me crazy with the new gesture keyboard was it's inability to allow me to use curse words...
Settings ---> Language & input ---> Personal dictionary
Touch the + symbol at the top right.
Add whatever words you want and it'll start showing up in your gestures! Another fun trick is adding a word like "email" and giving it the shortcut to your actual email. When you type in email you'll also have the option to select your actual email address in the suggestion bar. This also helps with curse words that'll default over normal words... Add the regular word and shortcut the curse word so that you can quickly use it in the suggestion bar.
Thanks, now I can swear like a proper pirate again. Arrr!

Oh right this works. My biggest gripe with the keyboard is that it is not possible to correct a word in the middle of a sentence. For example, if i want to change a word in the middle of a sentence, I can't double click the word and see possible variations of the word. I have to select the word and retype it entirely.
How do you access all the emojis. There are only keywords for a handful of them but there are many more emojis compatible with android.

Great tips. How do i preserve my dictionary after i flash a new ROM?

[Q] Can someone mod the handwriting recognition to auto-space?

Basically, It drives me nuts when using the handwriting recognition input after it recognizes a word it doesn't add a space. I end up with a page full of words without spaces. Can anyone mod the input to automatically add a space after recognizing the word?
Well this is done on purpose. This is there so if you run out of space typing big words or if you have habbit of handwriting really big, then you can continue to type when screen clears.
It can be annoying. But I have learnt to t ype very small on the screen and complete one sentence at a time starting at the top left and continuing down like you type on paper on the typing area. This way I have to hit enter or space only once per sentence.
From my Note 2, right in your face....
Did you know a left-to-right line will work as a space? I didn't until just now checking on your problem.

Try this....
Samsung Keyboard settings
Handwriting
Then select
Recognition type : complete recognition
Recognition time : 100ms
Pen thickness : 5 pixels
Now you can use the stylus and write a word at a time clearly seperated by a space or write underneath each word and only tap the space icon when you run out of room. Works perfect!

I do that now, and it works but it's after the text has been translated and you want to continue the sentence that it becomes annoying because you have to train yourself to constantly hit the space bar. I know it seems like a small issue but it's something that would make the input method so much easier.
