[Q] Yet another non booting SGS3 T999 - Please Help

I sent off for a warranty replacement as my phone had the crackle/popping sound while playing music. The new phone should be here by tonight or tomorrow, so I wanted to put my current handset back to factory. Well, I flashed the stock kernel and also the stock rom from the samsung site (for model T999) and it gets stuck at the pulsating samsung logo. I came from Paranoid Android ROM
I am able to get into download mode, but not recovery mode. I have tried everything from multiple flash attempts of the stock rom+kernel to flashing recovery (cwm) through ODIN with no results. I need to get this bad boy back to factory settings before I send it back to T-mo or they might charge me retail pricing for the exchange.
Is there a way to wipe everything (including counter) from ODIN? I've searched several forums, but I haven't found an answer.
Any ideas on how to get this done will be greatly appreciated.

Well, you need to get an absolute factory image (That includes EVERYTHING), I believe the sticky one in the Development section should do the trick.
But before that, in order to reset your counter, you have to use an app developed by Chainfire called, Triangle Away.
As I believe if you ODIN an official package/image, the counter doesn't go up.

I have been looking through the threads and don't see one labeled absolute factory image. A link would be greatly appreciated

1. Download this: http://samsung-updates.com/get/2144/Samsung_Firmware_SGH-T999_TMB_T999UVALH2_Android_4_0_4.html
It is the FULL stock firmware. t's roughly 720MB. It will be in a compressed format.
2. While that's downloading, you can Triangle Away your phone. (Note: Do it at your own risk.)

3. Run Triangle Away on your phone, it'll give you a warning message, and yadayadayada, click Reset Counter.
4. Once your download (Stock Firmware) is complete, extract the .tar.md5 file from the first link I gave you. (Use WinRAR or a similar program.)

That is the file you will ODIN to your phone (Add it to the PDA part of ODIN.)
5. Put your phone into download mode. (Confirm that the count is set at 0)
6. Odin like you normally would.
When you initially add it to ODIN, it will look like it gets stuck at <OSM> Please wait..
But it's only because it's a big file, wait it out.
It should finally continue and now it should say:
<OSM> T999UVALH2_T999TMBALH2_T999UVALH2_HOME.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
And you should be ready to press Start.
Note: My phone isn't connected, but I took screenshots to help you out. You should see the yellow COM light up and whatnot when you have your phone connected.
Edit: I just realized you can't boot into a ROM to reset your counter, lol.
You'll prolly have to follow my steps twice.
Do steps 5 to 6 first, root your phone.
Then start over from step 1. (Of course you won't have to download the image again, but you know what I mean.)

I truly appreciate all of the effort you put into this, theexel. From the screen shots to the diagrams... It's people like you that make this community thrive.
On another note - that is exactly what I tried before, and it still won't boot. I downloaded the ROM from Samsung, and flashed it with Odin and it just gets stuck at the Samsung pulsating logo. Not sure where to go from this point as I can't get into recovery. Getting somewhat frustrated as I have flashed many-a-Rom on a multitude of devices and this has me stumped...
Any other ideas are welcomed. I have 7 days to figure this out before I have to mail back this phone in exchange for the new one I just received.

You sure you downloaded the file I provided?
The OP in that thread isn't updated and the download may have been the wrong one.

Yeah, I'm sure. I downloaded it again afterwards just to make sure. Still stuck on the sammy logo.

I just downloaded the new version of Odin, as I saw your post and it had v3.07, and I had the older v3.04 and tried again with no luck... I wonder what the hell happened to this phone?

Damn, this was a booger.... For some reason traces of CWM were still on the phone, and I had to flash the stock recovery through Odin. After that I wiped cache and factory reset through the stock recovery, and BAM! Booted up like a charm. Now I only have to root, use triangle away to get rid of the flash counter, unroot, and send this thing back to T-Mo. Ridiculous... The pains and glory of flashing custom Roms :victory:

this has to be throw into the sticky instructions to flash stock, i was having the same issue, used the sgs3 toolkit to get the recovery file and flash with odin. thanks XDA!!

How to OTA to 4.4.2 from LJ2 4.1.1 (w/NE5/MK6 bootloader!) *** POST #3 UPDATES

DISCLAIMER: This was performed on a SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 on ATT. I can only attest to it's success on that model, because that's what I have. And that's the multiple hours I have tested in on.
Background:
I was impatient and flashed the ATT 4.3 OTA thereby locking myself into to the 4.3 bootloader.
** So I am using an i317 AT&T Note 2 with the MK6 locked bootloader as the baseline for testing.
After 4.3 came out there were multiple issues, people getting softbricked, etc. I started following the HOW-TO Downgrade from 4.3 OFFICIAL MK6 to LJ2 4.1.1 from @perez6991.
I was honored to test Zen Arcade's AT&T I317-UCUBMK6 *Stock* Rooted De-Odex ROM.

He suggested to me, try some follow on testing of how to go from Stock ODIN KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5, all the way up to OTA 4.3.
After many heart stopping, panic attacks from a phone that would not boot.....
Here are the steps:
Section 1: Flashing LJ2 4.1.1 via ODIN
Thanks to perez6991 for the HOW-TO Downgrade Guide, I’m just reusing his steps for the first part and thanks to fuzio1963 for finding out the param.bin and tz.img unbricks recovery mode. Saved my butt !
STEP 1: Download the USA AT&T 2012 OCTOBER I317UCALJ2 firmware from Sammobile (You need an account to download/registration is free)

Stock UCALJ2 ODIN package for those with MK6 bootloaders

Extract the file (I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_ATT.zip) to Desktop or somewhere convenient
STEP 2: Download Odin 3.07 or your preferred choice, extract zip file to Desktop or somewhere convenient. Go to directory to where you extracted Odin307.zip
Run Odin3 v3.07.exe

STEP 3: Put your Note 2 in Download Mode
Entering download mode is very simple. First you will need to turn off your device. Once it’s off, you need to press this button combination: volume down, power button and home button. Keep them pressed until the download mode shows up. Once you’re there, you will be required to press volume up to enter the download mode or volume down to cancel and reboot the device.
Plug into a RELIABLE usb port and a RELIABLE usb cable (preferably the white Samsung cable) and wait for it to show up in Odin (COM5 or something like that)
STEP 4: Click the PDA slot in Odin and locate the USA AT&T 2012 OCTOBER I317UCALJ2 firmware from Sammobile that you downloaded and extracted in Step 1
The filename that goes into the PDA Slot is KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Wait for it to verify, it may look like the program freezes but it’s just verifying the md5 checksum.
BEFORE ANYTHING MAKE SURE IN THE OPTION AREA ONLY AUTO REBOOT AND F.RESET TIME ARE CHECKED!!!
STEP 5: Click START and wait. After a while Odin should say RESET in the BOX above the Option area

*** Upon reboot the phone will hang. This is because of left over 4.3 file(s) not letting the system boot.
Pull the battery and let the phone sit for a few seconds, pop the battery in and boot into stock recovery (HOLD VOL UP+HOME+POWER) and do a FACTORY RESET then reboot.
When it hangs on the Pulsing Blue Samsung logo, do this step. (expect to do this)
STEP 6: SUCCESS!! If you did everything right your phone should boot into LJ2 4.1.1
If your phone did not boot, you probably did not read the info after ***.

SECTION 2: OTA to MH3
You are now booted into the original stock 4.1.1 Note II ROM, i317UCALJ2.
You do not need to set anything up except your wireless connection to download the 302 MB OTA update. Cancel all setups and make a Wifi Connection. (connect to a wireless connection to not use Phone Data)
After you have made a Wifi connection:
Go to Settings> About Device> Software Update
It should come up and tell you an update is available.
[If it says update not available, go to Settings Date/Time and take auto sync off. Advance the date one day and try again]
Complete the steps in the Update Windows (Simply by clicking NEXT or CONTINUE)
* You have flashed using ODIN to the original stock 4.1.1 Note II ROM, i317UCALJ2.
* You have now OTA’d to i317UCAMH3, which is the required baseline to OTA to 4.3.
After the reboot of the 302 MB OTA install, your phone will hang on the Samsung GALAXY Note II screen.
The step below needs to be done to get the install to complete successfully for the i317UCAMH3 OTA.
- Download from http://d-h.st/CDK
I317UCUBMK6-TZ-PARAM.zip
- Extract the I317UCUBMK6-TZ-PARAM.zip file to get to I317UCUBMK6-TZ.tar.md5
It has two files in the I317UCUBMK6-TZ-PARAM.zip. You should only need the I317UCUBMK6-TZ.tar.md5.
I kept both files in there, in rare case you will need to flash the param file.
Read information under the If you *are* running the Official 4.3 (MK6) bootloader: section from @Zen Arcade thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48935684&postcount=1

- Put your Note 2 in Download Mode.

Now it’s time to get to i317UCUBMK6.
There are two options:
1. Continue on to 4.4.2 Over The Air (OTA) update
OTA now goes to Kit Kat 4.4.2
2. Flash a 4.3 stock root ROM I have not attempted any other 4.3 ROM from the AT&T Galaxy Note II Android Development Forum. That does not mean it will not work. Do so at you own risk.

Save the file to a location that you can easily find. After the download is complete you will need to copy it to your phones SDCARD or External SDCARD.
After copying i317-cwm-ucubmk6-rooted-deodex.zip to your phone. Power off phone.
Wait a minute and turn it back on. To boot into TWRP recovery (HOLD VOL UP+HOME+POWER) while it is powering on. Do this quickly after turning phone on.
You will boot into the TWRP Interface
The interface of TWRP comprises of large buttons that make it easy to spot the feature you require at a quick glance and select it with a quick tap. You’ll also find soft buttons for Home and Back here, along with one for the log view that shows progress of all the operations you’ve performed in recovery.
Install Button
As the name suggests, the Install option lets you install any recovery-flashable zip file to your device. This can be a ROM, a kernel, a mod, a theme, a system app – pretty much anything that’s available in the recovery-flashable zip file format.
Upon hitting Install, you’re presented with the files and folders on your phone’s storage, from which you can select the file you want to flash. Find the file i317-cwm-ucubmk6-rooted-deodex.zip With the file selected, you can swipe the slider to confirm and start flashing the selected file.
After install completes, press the Back Button. (Looks like a U-turn arrow)
You should be back to main screen. Press Reboot.
Press System button on Reboot Menu.

NOTE: I have done this multiple times, so many I've lost count. My Knox is tripped. The last test (today) I did not use Triangle Away. So my flash count was at 5.
This method works. You may want to start from scratch.

My pleasure. Yes triangle angle clears the binary count and sets status back to unmolested.
But to do this, using TA is not a requirement.
Just the stock LJ2 and param/tz tar to Odin, TWRP, and the MH3 stock recovery.

I don't remember if we had this as a test, but from MH3 stock flashing your MK6 CWM zips worked great.
Really no need to OTA to 4.3 with your awesome contribution.

Thank you so much! My Note II was bricked and this seems to have fixed it. My only issue is that now that I am back to 4.1.1 CALJ2, I went to software update and it says no update available? Also S-note seems to be missing.

Try setting your date one day ahead. Take date/time off of automatic sync. Advance date one day. That should do it.
Forgot to add that in instructions. Thanks.

Changing the date to one day ahead seems to have solved it It says it's downloading software update now. Thanks for the help!

I'll be around checking in, to see if you need help get past the MH3 update.
When update finishes, It will say Update Completed and reboot. But it won't boot. You need to do the TWRP recovery ODIN flash and the param/tz ODIN flash.

I didn't have to do that. After the update, mine booted straight into 4.3 perfectly. I would have stayed with 4.1.2 because I prefer it better, but I got sick of the nagging notification.

I have an ATT GN2 and Im wondering if I can stll download the ATT updates if I only have a Tmo sim card? I jumped onto tmo when they announced uncarrier 4.0 but have not realize that I cannot unlock my GN2 with the OTA 4.3 and no longer with ATT. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I just downgraded to LJ2 & unlocked my note maybe will stick around until I can get a hold of an ATT sim to complete the rest. Thanks again!

Either through over the air update (OTA) or the phone came with it from TMO or from a full NK3 Odin flash (Only these methods will mean you have the FULL NK3!) proceed to "Rooting NK3" below.
If you flashed a custom NK3 ROM (without updating the baseband/modem and bootloader), flash the full NK3 Odin below.
If you need to update to N900TUVUENK3 and are on a stock firmware that has not been rooted yet:
Use the built-in Over The Air (OTA) software updater in your phone settings to check for an update then follow the instructions to update.
After booting up, check for an update again and confirm there are none and that you are on firmware N900TUVUENK3 before proceeding to "Rooting NK3" below.
If you are updating from any prior rooted stock or custom firmware follow these steps (or if you don't know if you have a full NK3 install, follow these steps):
Download EffortLess ROM Prep.zip and Full Stock NK3.zip
Unzip both files
Turn off your phone and then hold the Volume Down, Home Button, and Power Button at the same time, when the phone vibrates, let go of Power Button. Press Volume Up to continue past the "Warning!!" screen.
Open the EffortLess ROM Prep folder and double click on EffortLess Odin.exe
Connect your phone to the computer via USB cable (one of the boxes under ID:COM in Odin will fill with a com number and turn baby blue meaning it can communicate with your phone.. if it does not, unplug your phone and run EffortLess Odin USB Driver.exe from the EffortLess ROM Prep unzipped folder. Now plug your phone in again and it should load the driver and the box should turn baby blue and display a com number)
Click the PDA button and navigate to the unzipped Full Stock NK3 folder, click on N900TUVUENK3_N900TTMBENK3_N900TUVUENK3_HOME.tar.md5 and click Open
Wait for the file to load properly in Odin, it will take a minute and you'll see a check-mark to the left of the PDA button and the system path of the NK3 file to the right.
Now click start and wait, don't touch anything until after your phone restarts.
Now go to menu, settings, General tab, and click About device and verify the Baseband version AND Build Number are N900TUVUENK3 if so, go to Rooting NK3

Download the triangle away app from the playstore, or download it from XDA for free.
Run and reset your flash counter
(even if your counter is 0, run it anyway to allow the baseband and bootloader to update)
Repeat the steps above for full N900TUVUENK3 stock
Rooting NK3 (CF-Auto-Root)
Turn off your phone and then hold the Volume Down, Home Button, and Power Button at the same time, when the phone vibrates, let go of Power Button. Press Volume Up to continue past the "Warning!!" screen.
Open the EffortLess ROM Prep folder and double click on EffortLess Odin.exe

Flashing EffortLess ROM in custom recovery:
Connect your phone to PC and copy EffortLess ROM (or any custom ROM) onto your SD card (internal or external)
Power off your phone and hold the Volume Up, Home Button, and Power Button at the same time. After the phone vibrates, let go of power but hold the other two and you should see the new TWRP recovery boot.
Click on "wipe", "advanced wipe", select everything EXCEPT! "INTERNAL STORAGE" AND "MICRO SDCARD" (if you select those you will lose your pics and the EffortLess ROM that you have on there to flash) then "Swipe to Wipe" at the bottom.
Click the home button on the bottom left then click wipe again and slide the slider to "Swipe to Factory Reset" at the bottom.
Now go home again and click install... find the EffortLess ROM zip (or your custom ROM of choice) file on either internal or external storage, click it, then swipe to confirm flash at the bottom.
When it finishes, click "Reboot System"
be very patient on first boot.. Enjoy!

For those that still are not sure, you can use the Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app as a final verification to see if the Bootloader, PDA, Modem and CSC files all are now updated to NK3.

Quick question from a newbie. I have GN3 n900a NC2 which doesn't have root at this time. So I'm planning to buy GN3 tmobile version. The question is, will I be able to root it even with the latest update installed? Does it have a looked bootloader? I don't care about triping knox. Thanks

You can root latest update and it does not have a locked bootloader. Just follow the guide above and you'll be set once you get it.

What was the last thing you did? And did you get the new zip from last night?
Just hold volume down and home and as it loops it'll go into Odin mode.
If you were using the old auto cf root file, just download the new one and repeat the steps for root.

I've used many of your methods in the past; this is my first Note 3 Root. I'm quite excited to give it a try to get my Note 3 rooted since that idiotic 4.4 update took away our mass storage usage. Loved streaming from my drive and moving files around.
I've hesitated; but it looks like once again you all at XDA dialed this process in for us newbies and I appreciate you for it. Always nervous on the first root. Once it's done and TWRP is on there; I'll be able to breath again. Process is always nerve racking; but I know to be patient on first boot because the files require setup which can take several minutes.
My question: Is there a Gapps version we should look for and is there a way to obtain our Samsung apps (mainly because I own music and a couple of movies on their app)?

This is just an unlock so therefore Gapps would not be necessary nor should I worry about the Samsung apps since it's just an unlock. Yeah, no need for gapps or Samsung apps as they are part of the stock rom. Follow the guide and you'll be fine. Let us know how it goes.

Had friend of mine root phone because of the 4.2 debacle on my phone. Anyways... Currently have rooted Stock 4.4.2 (N900TUVUCNB4) and looking to update to the new version.
Your instructions are very easy but I dont understand why I would need to Flash stock, then reroot (again) then twrp and then rom. If i still want root i would need to follow the rest correct? Or can I just go into TWRP and reboot into recovery, select wipe, advanced, select all but internal and sdcard then slide. Once done select install, find zip of Stock NE6 then wait. This should load up a rooted stock right?
Or am I able to just download EffortlessROM and install from phone via TWRP.
Sorry for sounding stupid, Im not understanding why I would need to go through all the steps if rooting to begin with was to make things easier.

A lot of people went (what they thought was) the easy way of just wiping in TWRP and flashing NE6 ROMs without updating their whole system and just read in the EffortLess ROM thread all the problems they have.
NE6 came with an updated bootloader and modem/baseband, unless you do a full stock install, those won't be updated. ROMs such as EffortLess ROM only contain the OS part and not the modem or bootloader. If you don't have the updated NE6 bootloader and baseband, you'll have issues such as the 4 digit pin lock not working, being stuck on the white TMO 4G LTE screen, or having problems with your 4G signal not switching properly (I'm pretty sure there are also updates in the modem that are required for voLTE to function correctly) etc.
Also, some are having issues updating their bootloader and baseband... there is a write lock on those if you have a flash counter other than 0. That is why you check to see if your modem updated after the first stock Odin flash (if it hasn't most likely your bootloader hasn't either), and to fix it, you run triangle away (to remove the write lock) and then reodin the entire stock (to update those two things properly).
I know it seems like rework, but it's a very simple process and will ensure you have no issues once you're on NE6. Also, once you're on NE6 (including modem and bootloader), then you can do as you asked and just use the last part- wipe in TWRP in between other NE6 ROMs.
Hope that clarified it a bit.

Worked until i got to the install TWRP part. Froze and Odin said FAIL quickly. So i pulled battery and phone had BIG triangle saying its basically messed up reinstall via kies . So I am starting back at 1. Hopefully this works
Been stuck in the downloading part for at least 5 minutes with the progress bar at the bottom not moving. This seems to be stuck, not working or something. I have to be missing something please help.
Update 3:
Unplugged all. Shut down Odin, Removed battery and same thing. Decided to start at step 1 in that screen with the Phone -- Triangle -- Computer. So far seems to be working. Will update hopefully with good news and VERY SOON! 8 minutes later via Odin time ALL GOOD. Back to stock w/ no ROOT. Auto rooting now. WOW fast. Rooted!
I guess I will wait a bit for some answers on TWRP install. Maybe i did something wrong and a simple talking to will fix me. Till then I am rooted and on Stock. Lets start deleting some BS apps. WOW there is a lot

You should be able to flash TWRP in a similar way as the root file. I'm can't think of anything that you may have done to cause it to hang like that when flashing TWRP.
I'd suggest to try again, but backup your stuff just in case.

Thats what i was thinking. I do know when we (friend and I) rooted the first time and tried to get TWRP installed it kept failing like it did. Ended up researching like crazy and finding out he had an outdated file. The one provided is up to date. Had to be something on my end. So far Im okay with just Stock Root. Ill give it a day or two before I figure it out. Im tired and need sleep. 1 hour in a 22hr time frame is not good for brain.

4. Open odin you should now see phone's modem port highlighted in blue.
5. Click on BL tab and select correct sboot.bin that you downloaded above. Then click start.
6. When phone comes back on power off again and put into download mode.
7. Open odin again and this time select AP tab and select UniKernel file and click start.
8. That is it!!! When it comes back on phone will be rooted. To verify that knox has not been tripped go back to download mode and it should still say KNOX WARRANTY: 0 (0X0000)
If you plan on using Aou's Kernel and TWRP to root your G925T on 5.1.1 (DO NOT USE THIS FOR G920T) use the steps below
1. Install Samsung USB drivers if necessary.
2. Copy and Paste SuperSU v2.49 on the root folder of your phone's internal memory.
3. Put phone into download mode. Power phone off then press and hold Volume down, home and power keys at same time until you see warning screen then let go and hit volume up one time.
4. Plug phone into computer and let drivers install if necessary.
5. Open odin and click on BL tab and select sboot.bin file for g925t and click start.
6. When phone is back on put back into download mode again.
7. Open odin again and this time select AP tab and flash Aou's TWRP file and hit start.
8. When phone is back on put phone into download mode one last time.
9. Open odin and select AP tab and select Aou's v4 kernel and click start.
10. When phone is back on unplug it and power it off and put into recovery mode (Volume up, home and power keys)
11. When TWRP recovery is open click on install tab and select supersu file and swipe to flash it. then reboot phone to system.
12. That is it!!! When it comes back on phone will be rooted. To verify that knox has not been tripped go back to download mode and it should still say KNOX WARRANTY: 0 (0X0000)
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU FLASH THE FILES IN THE ORDER THE INSTRUCTIONS TELL YOU TO FLASH THEM!!!

If for some reason after you flash UniKernel and phone screen turns white after on main screen for few seconds Just flash Aou's v4 kernel. That will fix that issue if it happens and you will still be rooted.

Update: Tested the 2nd method using Aou's Kernel and TWRP and had some issues with the fingerprint scanner. I would suggest going with the first method

had to flash stock odin file,,,phone start flashing a bright white from the screen whenever i tried to wake it...

This makes no sense to me, Flashing a modified kernel is the thing that trips knox, Unless Sboot flashes it back at zero, But if it was that simple then anybody could just flash sboot at the end and have knox at 0

The sboot file posted is stated to be an engineering sboot file. In theory this would allow them to flash and do testing without having to worry about refusing knox. I have not tested this in fact is true. I did try flashing it out of curiousity and my counter did not go up but I am already tripped. Also not sure what the cause was but my fingerprint reader got screwed up as well. I did not try wiping to see if it would fix though.

I'm doing this as we speak. I got the sboot flashed, and when it restarted, it did come back with a fingerprint scanner error. Just rebooted to flash kernel, so we shall see! On the reboot after flashing sboot knox was still at 0, flashed unikernel on 920t, everything went ok, reboot fingerprint scanner error again. Restarted, and knox is still saying 0x000. Hmmm...

I did both ways on spare s6 edge tmobile knox triped both ways.... please do not post wont trip knox unless it has been fully tested...

Again, I followed the directions on my SM-920T and knox isn't void.

I flashed the unikernel.
Was stuck in download mode. Just got it restarted. It does post about 3 lines of green writing now when I boot up on the Galaxy S6 screen. Fixing to see if root stuck.

Ok... This is exactly what I did... I will post back with results later on tonight to make sure everything is up to snuff. THE FINGERPRINT SCANNER ISN'T WORKING AS OF YET. If you plan on using the Unikernel to root your g925t or g920t on 5.1.1 use these steps
1. Install Samsung USB Drivers if necessary.
2. Put phone into download mode. Power phone off then press and hold Volume down, home and power keys at same time until you see warning screen then let go and hit volume up one time.
3. Plug phone in and wait for drivers to install if necessary.
4. Open odin you should now see phone's modem port highlighted in blue.
5. Click on BL tab and select correct sboot.bin that you downloaded above. Then click start.
6. When phone comes back on power off again and put into download mode.
7. Open odin again and this time select AP tab and select UniKernel file and click start.
8. That is it!!! When it comes back on phone will be rooted. To verify that knox has not been tripped go back to download mode and it should still say KNOX WARRANTY: 0 (0X0000)

And I'm sure everyone already knows this, but to get back out of DOWNLOAD MODE after you check to see that knox wasn't tripped you hold all buttons until the phone either turns off or gives you a boot mode screen =/

OK- I did too. I have a green message on boot screen, and in DL mode "Current Binary = custom" and "System Status = Custom", but KNOX is NOT tripped and I have root. I suppose if I flash the original sboot and kernel things would go back to Official, but I am just guessing.

I have no clue bud. I was planning on tripping it after being out a week with no root so this was amazing to me.

OK- update _ cannot connect to wifi at all and the screen has some kind of white out bug that keeps happening. I need to find out how to go back to normal- anybody have an idea?
EDIT: I read in another thread if this happened to flash Aou's kernel. So I did and everything is is good and KNOX still not tripped and root enabled.

[Tutorial] Flash/Root/update elephone P8000

I know what you are thinking: "Another root/flash tutorial??, it's already explained multiple times right?"
Yes that's true. But for some reason it did not work when I followed the exact steps described (I tried it on 2 different elephone P8000 phones), and I believe I'm not the only one so i created this post to help others.

Flashing instructions:
1. Install the usb drivers and reboot your PC.
(Download link: mega.co.nz/#!55BQkKiR!OPBrnj7SXxsUbuchAjV8orT9SMAOMpbDesYTMO2DDHY)
2. Check if the drivers are installed correctly.
Go to "Device manager" on your windows PC and check if there are no yellow question marks appearing when connecting the phone to the PC​3. Download the flashtool and firmware you would like to flash:
Latest version of the Flash tool: (androidmtk.com/smart-phone-flash-tool)

4. Open the flash tool and select the scatter download file included in your firmware you downloaded.
!the next steps differ from every tutorial I've read but seem to work perfectly.
5. Turn your phone on (normal no recovery).
6. Click on the download button in the flash tool.
7. turn your phone off (the normal way)
8. The flashing should automatically start while the phone is turning off.
9. Wait for the conformation in the flash tool (green check mark).
10. Remove the usb cable from the phone and hold to power button till the phone boots.
To root:
Just install superSU from the playstore and root. (confirm with rootchecker app, also from the playstore).
If that does not work for you. Install a custom recovery following the flash instructions above. Put de SuperSU binary's on your sd card. Boot into recovery by turning off your phone. Now hold the power and volume up buttons till you see a selection menu. Select "recovery" with the volume up button and confirm using the volume down button. In recovery use the install from zip function to install the superSU binary's.
To install latest stock firmware:
Follow the flash instructions and flash the stock ROM. I recommend doing this instead of updating from the phone itself. Because I updated the firmware from the phone itself to the latest firmware using the updater on the phone and there were some small bugs. After flashing everything worked perfectly.

Please use google.
"Flashing a custom ROM" basically means to load a different version of the Android OS. This site actually explains it very well. A custom ROM is the full Android OS customized by the ROM builder usually to make it faster, provide better battery-life or add new features.
AOSP ROMs like CyanogenMod offer stock Android which will remove things like HTC's Sense or Sprint's Apps. CyanogenMod's ROM is one of the more popular ROM.
Other Roms like Fresh 3.5 offer a ROM very similar to the default experience (with added speed and battery-life) by leaving Sense (or whatever skin your device has) and incorporating over the air updates into an updated version of the ROM.
In order to flash a custom ROM you must first root your device. For information about rooting see Matt's comment on the OP or my original answer below:

Flashing Problem
Hi, I'm usually quite good at figuring out these problems myself but it has been about two days and still no luck,
I've got a Elephone_P8000_20151203 build, I've been trying the root it as I hate adverts, the problem I get is when I've followed the flashing procedure and enter recovery mode where it gives you the 3 options, every time I press recovery it just loads up the phone, and if I try and enter recovery mode without using flashtools I get no command, I have tried a few different ways now and I don't seem to be getting anywhere so any help would be amazing, I've also tried a different computer OS, I've tried win7/10.
Hope somebody can help,

Have you tried going to settings, enabling developer options, enabling OEM unlocking, then downloading SuperSU from playstore,opening SuperSU, press continue,press normal,this should root your p8000

Cheers for the reply, I should have mentioned that I tried that also and it still says "there is no SU binary installed, and superSU cannot install it" I found OEM unlocking yesterday and it got my hopes up then shot me straight back down, I was hoping that it OEM unlocking was the reason I could not access recovery,

To access recovery, switch phone off completely, then press power and volume UP together, you will see three options in tiny white writing,use the volume UP to move marker to recovery which is the first option, then press volume DOWN to choose recovery, you will get a screen with a green android man with a red triangle, you then have to press power and then volume up this should get you into recovery

If recovery is broken. Turn off the phone, connect to PC. Open flashtool. Load philz recovery. Click in download. Turn phone on and flashing should start automaticly. Hope this helps

ok sp flash tools wont let me flash just a recovery. It wants me to format and flash the whole phone which wipes out my imei. any suggestions?

No matter what I try, my computer will not install the drivers. I keep getting "A service installation section in this INF is invalid". Any ideas on what to do?
